Fish. is an awesome seafood place in Sausalito right on the water near the ferries that run to San Francisco. We came on a Saturday afternoon and parking was free and plentiful. If you come on a weekday, I imagine parking will be more difficult and might be paid. This place reminds me of a classier version of Phil's Fish Market (Moss Landing) where you order at the counter, find a table and you food is brought to you. Make sure you bring cash because credit isn't accepted here. I would advise to look at the specials board in addition to the menu. I got the Grilled Monterey Squid Tossed with Fried Blue Lake Beans, Roasted Garlic-Pumpkin Sauce, and Fresh Pumpkin Parsley Salad ($23), my girlfriend got the Black Cod Collar with a Salad ($20). The squid was perfectly cooked and delicious, I really enjoyed the pumpkin sauce as well. The Black Cod was buttery and amazing, my girlfriend thought that she would get 1 collar piece but was so surprised at getting 4! I am not sure why I see so many people complaining about the prices for a seafood restaurant. Maybe the idea that you order at the counter makes people think it should be cheaper? Anyways prices are reasonable for what you get which is delicious and fresh seafood. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed. My husband and I spontaneously drove over the bridge and ended up in Sausalito one night. A quick Yelp search led us to Fish, and we got excited about feasting on fresh AF seafood. I really wanted to like this place; it seemed charming and family-friendly. We ordered the clam dip, white clam chowder bowl, mussels, and Fish Peacemaker sandwich with fries on the side. The highlight was probably the sandwich. My husband is obsessed with clams but thought the clam dip and chowder were subpar. I personally liked the chowder, but agreed it was nothing special. The biggest letdown was the bowl of mussels. As soon as they arrived on the table, we were thrilled that the shells looked HUGE. But one peek inside and we found the tiniest (like laughably tiny) mussels I've ever had. On top of that, the broth and seasoning were so terrible! We had a few and decided not to finish it. For a $20+ dish, we definitely expected better. We even went on Yelp to look at photos and ours were definitely 1/3 the size of the mussels in the photos. We ended up telling the staff (as a shy, non-confrontational person, I never complain to staff but felt like I had to this time!), and they kindly refunded our dish. Although they handled our complaints graciously, our consensus is that Fish was unremarkable and overpriced for the quality and quantity. My friend was in the mood for seafood, lobster rolls in particular. She started searching Yelp for a place that would have great fresh seafood and Fish. is what came up! Although they did not have lobster rolls, they did have a pretty mean Crab Roll. That thing was very tasty. I actually wished there was a bit more crab. It was buttered and lightly seasoned for a perfect complement to the crab's natural flavor. Even the roll it was served on was nicely toasted too. I had the Saigon Salmon Sandwich which was also a winner. It was kind of like a classic Vietnamese sandwich that is typically served with pork. It had a nice flavor and a kick to it. Watch out for those jalapenos!! I love spicy food but after a couple of bites I had to start picking those suckers out haha. Their shoestring fries are also fabulous. I couldn't stop eating them even though I tried so hard to not over do it. Of course I couldn't help myself. French fries are my weakness! By the way, we also started with the Ceviche which was filled with huge chunks of fish that were delightful on the palate. We needed some more chips to finish the bowl off. It also is unlike your typical ceviche. This one had more of a sweetness to it because of the oranges they added. We're used to more of a limey mixture of flavors. It was still delish though! I went here a couple times and this place is always pack! We went here around 1:30pm to avoid lunch hour crowd but there was still a waiting line. The seats are first come first serve so you have to look around for your own seatings. They have a nice indoor and outdoor seatings but not enough shade area for the outdoor seatings. This place is right next to bay water so you can see the water. Great place for a casual date. Good for families and kids. Each day they have a different special menu depending on what type of fish they caught that day. All their food are freshly caught and made. My bf and I had their crab roll sandwich (highly recommended) and their fish and chips and a side bowl of claim chowder. Everything was delicious and fresh! The portion was pretty big too. Wednesday at 3 in the afternoon...line, sunny Saturday afternoon one hell of a line...I'm sure if they decided to open Thursdays at midnight there'd still be a line. The seafood is fresh...the view is great..and the prices...well the prices reflect both of those things. And yet in spite of the lines and prices, we keep coming back. Perhaps its the reasonably priced baked oysters (3 for $9) or the slightly less-affordable Dungeness crab louis. (to be fair..there is a LOT of crab on this salad); but whenever we have an opportunity to go during off-hours and miss the usual line...we try to go. We had two dishes: the black cod with a salad and the street tacos. The black cod was very good but I was not asked what dressing I would prefer of my salad and I found it slightly soggy. Also, I would have preferred a larger piece of fish and a smaller salad. The street tacos were small but as there were three they ended up being the perfect size. I thought they would have been a little better with some avocado or salsa. The fish was seasoned and they were topped with a radish onion mix. I got the Arnold Palmer drink which I had never had before and I found it light and refreshing. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely. Fish. is always busy. Always. But, I'd say it's worth the minimum 20 minute standing out the door wait. I come here whenever I go to Sausalito with my parents and they never disappoint. I usually get the fish and chips, but instead of the normal fries it comes with, which are thicker cut, I ask to substitute for the super thin fries. On the last trip I went on, which this review is purely based on, I ordered the fish and chips like I said above, as did my dad but with thick cut fries, my sister got the salad with tuna and white beans, we split one appetizer (ceviche) and I got a drink (forgot the name, but it's half lemonade and half tea - which is AMAZING. especially if you're like me and think lemonade by itself can be a little too tart or too sweet, the added tea makes a nice balance). All together between the 3 of us, it cost about $100. Pros: -Everything they have is super fresh -Everything is tasty -They have the best fish and chips I've ever had. The fish is nice and tender, and the coating is light and not overpowering (IE, I dislike it when places have more coating than fish, however this isn't the case here) -Great portions, I almost always have left overs to bring home Cons: -Fairly expensive (fish and chips are $25) -You have to have someone wait in line, while someone else looks for a table, or else you won't have somewhere to sit while you eat -The fries were perfectly cut, perfectly cooked, but they were quite salty. Too salty to the point my lips felt a little tingly after. My dad said the same thing. I don't remember them being that salty before, so maybe it was just a one time thing I definitely recommend it, since it's very tasty and great quality, but be prepared to spend lots of money. A favorite for our family of four. Two of us order the special local sustainable fish on this amazing buttery garlic pasta. I usually opt for rainbow trout, while my boyfriend orders squid. Came here on a Sunday just after 12pm. There was barely any line and lots of outside tables available. Parking was easy. An hour later the tables were all taken, so recommend to come before 12:30pm. Oysters we're fresh and tasty for $3 each. Shucking wasn't the greatest as I found grit in almost every one, and some didn't even have the bottom separated from the shell. Fish and chips was solid but a bit too oily for my liking. 3 pieces of decent sized fish and a big serving of wedges. We've been going to Fish for over 10 years. Almost every single time we order the same two things: Saigon salmon sandwich and a crab roll. One with skinny fries and one with wedges. I'd heard a lot of hype about Fish from friends, so I think my expectations were set a bit high. As others have noted, it's a bit pricy and they only take cash. The ambiance is casual, and since it's a popular place, you may have to double up on tables (as I did) but it was nice to have that community feel. Orders take place at 2 registers, but they try to get some of your items to you on the spot. I think this is one reason why the line is so long. My friend went back in line just to get another beer, and it took forever even though there were only 3 parties ahead of him in line. Queue management would go a long way here. On to the food...I really enjoyed the white clam chowder. It's not thick like most traditional chowders, but I found it flavorful and readily wolfed it all down. I especially appreciated the small potato chunks. My friend enjoyed his burger and fries. Pretty basic fare but nothing of note. I also got one of the seasonal specials: persimmon slices with brussel sprouts and pomegranate arils. I asked if I could sub out the blue cheese but they didn't really have any great alternatives. Parmesan was offered, and I just assumed it would be shaved curls. Instead it was a disappointing condiment cup of grated crumbles. The persimmon slices were a bit large and inconsistent. The brussel sprouts were individual raw leaves, so overall I think it equated to just about 1-2 brussel sprouts. Overall a sad presentation and unsatisfying dish. If I ever go again, I'd probably focus on getting oysters and fish, but if the line is long, I would opt to dine elsewhere in the area. read more

We live nearby and have read all the great reviews. Unfortunately, our food tonight was really bad. The fish tacos tasted like nothing... I added salt and then they tasted like old fish. The coleslaw we ordered was extremely spicy (too spicy). The crab roll was bland. The French fries were soggy. Neither my wife nor I could eat the tacos so we tossed them with the coleslaw. I was looking for food a little off the beaten path since it was a gorgeous day and crowds of people were everywhere. This was no compromise - although there was a line after 2 PM, a sign of great food to come - the food came pretty quickly. We had the cedar planked trout special with whole grain mustard brussel sprouts. This was a two person dish and it hit the spot for both of us. It was a great value.
