I recently visited Fishtails and unfortunately left quite disappointed. Given how busy the restaurant was, I had high expectations--but the experience did not match the crowd. I ordered the grouper, which is typically a highlight in the Florida Keys, but it lacked even basic seasoning and fell flat in flavor. The coleslaw was noticeably too sweet for my taste, and the potato salad included green peppers, which is an unusual choice and didn't complement the dish well. The service also left much to be desired. Our waitress was inattentive and provided very little information throughout the meal. Most concerning was that we left a significant portion of our food untouched, yet she never checked in or asked if anything was wrong--something I would expect at any restaurant, especially one as busy as this. Overall, while the atmosphere may draw a crowd, the food quality and service did not meet expectations. For comparison, I've had a far better grouper sandwich at Keys Fisheries Market & Marina, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I hope improvements can be made, as this location clearly has potential. Respond to owner, your response is your opinion, I have no reason to give bad information, if you watched your video as you stated you would have been able to see my friend and I dusguessing the food, also she never refilled our tea as frankly we didn't even drink it all. I had an absolutely incredible dining experience. From the moment the food arrived, everything looked fresh, vibrant, and clearly made with care. Every dish was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly -- you can really tell when a kitchen takes pride in what they serve, and it definitely showed here. The standout of the entire meal, though, was the key lime pie. It was hands down the best I've ever had. The balance of sweet and tart was absolutely perfect, the filling was smooth and creamy, and the crust had just the right amount of crunch. Terrible service as soon as we walked in. Extremely disrespectful, do not come here. Leaving really nasty comments towards us like "i'd rather serve the dog than you" and basically throwing the menu at us. -to reply back, this was not far from accurate. We weren't even asking to have the dog sit inside, we were planning on sitting outside. They did not apologize once. We did not feel welcome. Came here with the family and our dog, we asked if we could eat outside since our dog isn't a service dog. The workers said they weren't serving outside since it was "too hot" so when we asked if we could just bring the food from the inside to the outside for them so they wouldn't hurt themselves in the sun we were met with attitude and serious disrespect, the white woman with short hair threw the clipboards with the menus and said whatever, and the other white woman with a bob said she'd rather serve our dog then us. We didn't eat at their restaurant but we purchased items from them at the Farmers Market at Sunshine Key and from the storefront Market. Everything we had was great! We purchased: - Whole Key Lime Pie (we didn't read the instructions and popped it in the fridge... don't do that) - brats - kielbasa - new york strip - stone crab claws (def get their mustard sauce!) - fish dip (not my fave) - Red Snapper (family fave!) - cinnamon rolls (a bit pricey but yummy! We had the Reese's and the apple - apple was the fave here) - hogfish - blackening seasoning (a must if you're cooking it on a blackstone) - seafood seasoning (I haven't tried it yet but I bought it because I loved their other seasoning so much) All of the staff we encountered were wonderful! Visited this fish market a couple of times while visiting the Keys!! A true hidden gem...we bought fish to take back to our RV and bbq in the blacktone. The grouper and crabcakes were AMAZING!!! Great find! Stopped in for lunch today and had the grouper fingers plate with new potatoes. The fingers were nice and flakey with the perfect breading crispy and light, the slaw was amazing. And the potatoes were buttery and delicious. That was that now I tried the Peanut butter pie I bought home. We came in to pick out some fish from the market attached to the restaurant. We opted for the Mahi and a couple pounds of fresh pink Gulf shrimp (husband's favorite). We also grabbed one of their homemade key lime pies from the freezer. Everything was great quality. We loved the key lime pie - AMAZING graham cracker crust! Another amazing service and lunch Swordfish sandwich to die for- you will never go wrong with it. My husband have the blackened mahi German fish sandwich which is also delish. Fish Tales is a small restaurant with a homey feel. It is one of those rare places where the food is amazing, but the people are what truly make it special. Every single time we've been here, we've been treated so well that it feels like coming back to see friends. The staff is consistently warm, welcoming and the menu is large with many items fresh caught. We want to specifically call out servers Antonietta, Shawn, and Holly -- all three have provided outstanding service, with a dash of good humor. That kind of treatment keeps us coming back. The food is truly homemade and comforting. Our favorites are always a bowl of the crawfish soup, (Anto had to talk me into it the first time, and I'm so glad I listened!) the perfectly prepared pre-peeled shrimp (we love ours warm), and the French fries, which are absolutely out of this world. No matter what we order, the fries are a must every single time. They are that good. And save room for dessert -- lots of choices, my favorite being the carrot cake. Fish Tales is more than just a great meal; it's an experience where you feel cared for and welcomed. We went last night for dinner. The food was fantastic- I ordered the grouper fish fingers which were lightly battered and fried. They were so good. Another one in our party ordered the soft shell crab sandwich and he said it was great. Little small but good. The prices were reasonable. Definitely worth a visit when in the keys. read more

Wow. We were looking for a place for dinner and saw this establishment. It looked more local and had a neighborhood vibe. There's a fish market and a few tables. It's nothing special inside, just a basic setup like a small mom and pop place. The menu is pretty big and the prices are reasonable for what you get. Though it is a little on the high side. The wait staff was really helpful and the food came out quickly. Everyone was really nice that we interacted with. There were three of us and we were trying to decide between grouper, hogfish, and cobia. We just decided to order all 3 and share. The only "problem" was that we thought we ordered sandwiches, but the waitress thought we wanted platters. In the end, it was fine because the portion size was a little bigger, and she brought us buns so we could eat them as sandwiches if we wanted to. Nice small restaurant with a market on the main drag. We had the grouper sandwich with applesauce and their slaw and fried shrimp. Both entrees were delicious. Fast friendly service and clean. We checked out the market side and bought some jumbo pink shrimp and a large plank of Mahi-Mahi. Can't wait to make for dinner tomorrow. My wife and I ate here during our January 2026 visit to Marathon Key. She had called ahead and made sure they had stone crab. The place was small but we were seated promptly and our orders taken promptly. The stone crab came in 3 sizes which were on display at the market part of the building. She chose the "large", which were bigger than any she had every had before. They were fresh, there was alot of delicious meat. She had them cold with mustard sauce. She had a side of french fries which were particularly good. I had grouper with a topping of some ham and a cheese sauce. This wasn't exciting. The Key Lime pie was homemade and fantastic. All in all the fact that the Stone crab were so great and so was the Key lime pie, we give the restaurant a 5 star rating. read more

This is my second time leaving a 5-star review! We love coming here and the last time we came we got the homemade strawberry shortcake.
