A few key disclaimers here 1) For the adventurous non-Chinese diners, Lulu is priced like an authentic seafood shack that sells lobster rolls and grilled scallops. It has a no frills decor but they are working with expensive ingredients, so your bill will not be cheap. But I guarantee you, you are getting some of the best seafood in NYC under one roof. This is a place that Anthony Bourdain would love. If you bring this attitude, you're going to have a great time. Beer is cheap here. So you can take advantage of that. 2) The amount of variety is simply amazing under one roof. If you are the kind of people who have gone to the Fulton Fish Market at 2AM in the morning or have contemplated a trip like that, you will not be disappointed. But you need to accept that the $/head will be on the higher end. 3) Let the fish monger help you out. They do a good job suggesting different ways to cook the seafood, i.e. salt and pepper soft shell crab, steamed rice with Dungeness crab, X.O. sauce for steamed abalone 4) Pricing - To simplify cost structure, use 1.7x the price you see for an all in cost that will include the cooking cost, taxes, and 18% tip. Pay attention to weight. Everything is by weight. For items that are under $10/lb, this is not an issue. For items that are over $20, pay attention to the weight of the fish or crab 5) You can read all the other reviews about what's available, but I will talk about an order system that I have developed over time: For a hungry couple up to three people: 1.5 pound lobster with ginger and garlic $20, 1 pound of razor clams in black bean sauce $10, an order of fried soft shell crabs salt and pepper style $10, an order of stir friend veggies (morning glory or pea sprouts) $15, 2 abalones X.O. steamed X.O. style $14, 1 pound steamed fish $20 (bamboo something), 1 pound of squid made into hot and sour soup (you'll have left overs to bring home)$10. This will run you about $170 after you add up the 35% cooking fee, taxes, and tip. It is a pricey meal, but you get to have lobster, abalone, soft shell crabs, veggie, razor clams, steamed live fish, and a soup. This is enough to satisfy your seafood cravings. For a group of 5-6: Order two 1.5 pound lobsters. I find the bigger lobsters (3-4 pounds) to have tougher meat, alternatively you can order a Dungeness Crabs with Glutinous rice, 1 pound of razor clams, a two pound black fish two ways (body steamed in soy sauce and head made into a soup, you want a fish under three pounds as a 3 pound fish can get pricey and the meat gets tough), soft shell crabs for appetizer, steamed abalone or scallops for each diner, veggies, seafood fried rice, or a pork dish for the meat eaters in your group. You can also try a pound of coral shrimp or mantis shrimp. They are specialty items and tends to cost $30-40 a pound. So watch for the weight when you add them. You don't want to just order 3 pounds of those items, because that can add up very quickly. This will likely run you $300-400 total. But you're getting great seafood! For a group larger than 6: This is where you can get a king crab. Remember a five pound king crab will run you about $260 (assuming $30/lb, 35% cooking fee, 8.75% tax, and 18% tip). Ordering the king crab changes your dynamics because it is five pounds of King Crab and this means that you have to cut back on your other items. They can cook it three ways. They will steam it with rice with the crab butter. They can fry the legs and also steam the legs with garlic over a bed of noodles. I would just get them steamed. This is lesser of an issue if you have more than 8 hungry diners. If you are ordering the king crab, you're likely taking someone out for a birthday or trying to butter up your father-in-law. So you may as well try out the a steamed Korean Turbo fish, it is a flounder like fish. The black fish is the best in my opinion. I would still recommend the abalone or the scallops, you add many of the items that I mentioned in the earlier post. This is likely a $500-800 dinner tab Other items to try - baby octupus salad Japanese style, various soups, sea snails, manila clams in basil sauce, friend lobster. They make an amazing fried lobster with egg yolk. Don't get a large lobster. Get a small chick lobster under 1.5 pounds so everyone can get a couple pieces. If you eat too much of the fried lobster, it somehow keeps you up all night. Sashimi like geoduck or Australian lobster. I've never tried these but they look fresh to me. Things to avoid - Crawfish - These are pre-cooked and have very little taste. Their oysters are cheap but not served on a bed of ice. The ice and Tabasco sauce is what does it for me. read more

The taste for the seafood was good but somehow the size of mei fun was small and 3 cup chicken was too salty. I went with a group of friends who have a decent budget for something good, therefore, the price is not really our issues. In fact, we all love the freshness of seafood and the way they prep it. The Alaska king crab eating in 3 ways- fried rice, steam with garlic and fried the legs. The total cost of this king crab (seafood and prep fee) is under $200, and I consider it is very economical when compared with $300 plus in other seafood restaurant. Other seafood we ordered (live fish, clams, shrimp) also taste good too! It is well spent for the $600. However, the problem came, we were in a private room and next to our room is another private room with a group of smokers. Food is good, but not mix with cigarette smoke. I told the waiter and even the manager several times, but they just very soft and did not want to offense another group of customers (those smokers). Well it is very unsanitary here.The chefs and wait staff picked their nose and then serve your food and stuff. Gross. The food isn't that good here. We ordered several dishes. The chicken was terrible.It was basically chicken dunked in soy sauce. It was very dry. As for the actual seafood, the lobster fried rice is really good. Everything else isn't that good. Seafood selections are limited. Usually cheap seafoods priced 2x or more than market price. Add 35% cooking charges. Price is reasonable compared to other restaurants serving live seafood. Came to NYC to visit family. A friend told me for seafood try LuLu in College Point. Not fancy. Very clean and more then ample wait staff to get the job done right. On first entering I was blown away by the number on large fish tanks stacked in rows. Each tank had different fish, crab, lobster and such, all quite alive. The fun starts after you get your menu and decide what you think you want to eat. Your accompanied to the fish tanks with wait staff and make your selection of fish. It's placed on a scale for pricing. You then discuss how you'd like it prepared and watch the cleaning and cooking of your meal in their open kitchen. Very good seafood spot in college point. Don't be fooled by the lunch spot on the street being closed, go up to the third floor and that's where the real restaurant is. Very nice staff and very unique atmosphere. It's like a poor man's top of the rock and you can look at the skyline while you eat. Fried flounder with scallion and ginger was superb, and the waiter even gave me a free "sweet soup" which was delicious. Very cool place. read more

This is an excellent seafood restaurant if you are a big fan for fresh seafood which are picked by you live and processed and cooked immediately for its best freshness and taste. The price is decent for a seafood restaurant and will be expensive if you like for some king crab fancy staff. We ordered a king crab which is cooked in two different ways, delicious! This is absolutely among the best seafood restaurants I have ever had in us. Location wise, it's not quite convenient if you don't have a car. Lulu's Seafood.....situated a bit far from Flushing area for our lazy travel but its a gem. Located at a second floor building and has it's presence. From fish to shellfish the food that you pick and being cook is phenomenal. The service and it's owner are very friendly and welcoming. read more

Restaurant is interesting reminds me of those Taiwanese restuarants that have minimal decor just table and seats. We had the abalone which was good. The kind crab legs fried and steams which were really tasty. Fried rice was alright. The sea urchin I couldn't eat... Tasted dead and sitting for a while with weird plastic taste, not sweet. The jumbo clam sashimi style which was alright not that fresh. Garlic veggie don't know which one, was alright. Clam soup, which was some kind of clear broth soup the clams there were a lot but didn't taste fresh. I feel the only thing going for this place was the king crab legs. Visited with family on Christmas day. The freshness of the seafood definitely surprised me. Most importantly, the service from the owner to waiters was top-notch. Stick with the fresh fish steamed, shellfish and mollusks! You can't go wrong with the pricing and you can't get any better than here! My parents are usually concerned when they order fresh fish in a Chinese restaurant due to the kitchen either over-steaming it or it was really a dead fish. You can taste the difference based on the texture of the meat. We ordered a 2.5 lb black fish at 9.99 per lb. and it was steamed perfectly topped with ginger, scallions and soy sauce! Never going anywhere else for steamed fish prepared in the traditional Chinese household style! Prices are fair and much better than the markup you get at the large Chinese restaurants in flushing. There is a 35% cooking fee for the seafood preparation but the average cost with tip etc was fair in my view given the freshness and confidence I have due to the open kitchen that allows you to see where your order is going. read more

Food were overpriced and overcooked. Take a close look at their scale when they weight your seafood. The scale is not at 0 even with nothing on it.
