Best value for cooked seafood dishes in MB! Came here for dinner recently, and I think every dish we had, had some element of seafood. We had the ceviche, crab cakes, fried shrimp, lobster tacos, and an order of lobster mac 'n cheese. Everything tasted well above average. And for the price they charge, you'd think they'd give 1 or 2 dainty pieces of lobster in their tacos & mac n' cheese... however, they give generous, big chunks of lobster you could identify as claw or tail! While visiting from dc, I had dinner here with my sister. a friend in dc (who went to UCLA) recommended the place to me. They don't take reservations; we walked in and were immediately seated by friendly staff. Our waitress was great; she knew the menu very well and recommended all the favorites. FishBar is a great place to grab some fish for dinner. They have a Taco Tuesday special, two tacos for $10. I've had the ahi salad, ahi tacos, mahi mahi, fried asparagus appetizer. I usually order the ahi salad which is very good but it would be nice if it came with some tomatoes or mango. We've been a few times and the service has always been very quick and attentive. The facade of this place can be deceiving. Even more deceptive is the fact that this used to be a beach dive bar (Sharkee's) so for any locals it is definitely a little weird walking in here for the first time. The lunch crew has been here a couple of times now, and I can honestly say each time has been excellent. The only exception to that is the fries, they were mushy and flavorless. That being said, I have had the lobster roll, the ahi burger and the salmon fish and chips, and all of them are amazing. Of the choices of sides, get the onion rings or sweet potato fries. Orings are the clear winner, but maybe you are pretending you want to eat the "healthier" fry instead, either way get a side or ranch to go with, you won't be disappointed. I went to Fishbar on a Thursday night with two friends. Although we went later in the evening, the service was extremely slow. We got in and there was a wait for our table. That's fine, they don't take reservations. So we ordered some drinks from the bar. We waited for around 30 minutes, and even though some tables had opened up, we still weren't seated. After another 15 minutes we had to go again to make our presence known and finally be seated. The first thing we ordered were more drinks and some oysters. The oysters were fresh and very good. Some bread was also served, the bread was warm and also very fresh tasting. Our waitress would lag throughout the night. We were never offered refills and would have to ask the surrounding bus boys for service. The waitress would have to be called for refills on water, to order the main course, and the check. Please keep in mind, we had two empty tables surrounding us and we were not in a big rush as we were all thoroughly enjoying our conversation. I ordered the Mahi Mahi Mediterranean, it was cold and there was nothing really special about it (for the price of $15.99). It is a shame, if the waitress was more attentive, we would have probably ordered more drinks. My uncle raves about this place and I had hoped for a more positive experience. Our first time here and we were not disappointed! They serve a warm sourdough bread with butter that's very yummy! We had the lobster guacamole, lobster tacos (get the lobster fried!) and garlic mashed potatoes. OMG...the bread pudding is so decadent. Different from any other I've had but in a good way! Technically, FishBar is not set to "open" for a few more weeks. They are testing out some things and slowly changing the decor a bit at a time. I have heard some complaints about service but they are still working out the glitches so I hope future reviewers give them some slack on this front. As for the food, I agree with prior reviewer that Manhattan Beach needed this! The fish is FRESH, the portions are good and the prices are extremely reasonable. My favorite so far is the Salmon Ceaser Salad and the brochettes that are grilled with pieces of bacon. Came here yesterday with my husband, another couple and their small child...no wait after 2pm on a Sunday?! Yes, please and thanks! We were seated in a roomy booth, and greeted by our server almost immediately. We enjoyed the truffled crab mac n' cheese and chipotle calamari to start; I had the shrimp and scallop skewer with spinach and broccoli sides; my husband had the 50/50 (Mussels and Clams Leon); and our two husbands shucked a dozen oysters somewhere in between. Cute little place with great deals throughout the week! It's located on the northern end of Manhattan Beach (before the crazy traffic). There is a public metered parking lot right across the street on Highland with 2 hour parking for about $1.25. The meters take change or credit card. When you step inside the restaurant, you feel like you're on a boat. It's covered with wooden paneling and wicker on the ceilings. They have a good selection of beers on draft and a pretty good wine menu as well. Also, keep an eye out for their daily specials. We tried the lobster roll and the po boy. Both sandwiches were good. I actually like the po boy more - it tasted like buffalo wings with bleu cheese. Lobster roll was good, but I wish they put a little more lobster in the sandwich. We also had the furikake poke appetizer, which was delicious!!! Flavorful and a good amount of poke. I want to go back to try their clam chowder and their daily specials. They also have Happy Hour on weekdays from about 2:30-5:30. They have Margarita Madness Mondays; Taco Tuesdays; Wine and Crab Wednesdays; Lobster Thursdays and Friday night Steamers. Don't let the outside of this place fool you. We came in from out of town based our choice of yelps review and boy were we happy. The food is amazing and the fish was super fresh. I had the lobster tacos which was a party in my mouth. This place was so good we hit it twice on our trip and we were only in CA for 4 days. We also had the fish tacos and the crab and spinach dip was insane. The amount of crab in there was awesome! Fishbar was a great deal for the quality and service we received. This is such a fantastic restaurant and bar, I don't know where to begin. The food is delicious, particularly the grilled fish, fish tacos, and clam chowder. It is also a very classy and refined spot -- I feel very comfortable coming here and ordering my Beefeater Gibsons and just lounging at the bar. And to think such a short time ago this place housed that wretched Sharkeez! FishBar is the polar opposite, I assure you. Chef Jessica, formerly in charge of the kitchen at Critters, has really done an amazing job putting the menu together. Her fresh ingredients and imaginative dishes make the entire menu enticing, but she has also somehow managed to keep the prices reasonable. And if you have any questions about the food or need menu suggestions, you will usually spot Jessica strolling around the restaurant checking in on her customers -- you just don't find that kind of service and attention to detail anymore. We waited for 30 min, got average food, then the waitress added 50$ to our bill for drinks from the next table(which happened to be her friends). We went to the Fish Bar for an early evening dinner. After being seated, we waited 10 - 15 minutes before our waiter showed up. After ordering some appetizers and drinks, our set-ups were placed at our table - mine still had food on the fork - beyond disgusting. My wife's wine glass had lip prints on it too!!! Gross... Our appetizers were awful as well...My snow crab appetizer was over-cooked. In fact, when I cracked open the legs - they were half empty - NO crab meat. The smaller parts of the legs were dried out and old. How can you serve this food??? Came here a few times for lunch because I boat in MDR and just don't like the lounge lizard atmosphere of MDR area places. May not have the best or newest decor, but staffs are enthusiastic, friendly, but quite short staffed during lunch hour. Happy Hour prices were reasonable too. The food, especially the fish and lobster tacos, were amazing. And on Tuesdays tacos were discounted, $6 for 2 fish, and $9 for 2 lobster. I know this is not as cheap as Tuesday $1 taco at El Torito or Don Chuy's (also near MDR) but Fishbar's is bigger and way better. And free bread was hot, delicious and plentiful. Even my bread-snob European friends approved. Great place to eat, and even better since it's close to the beach. Definitely a place I will return often. FishBar is a fun, sports enthused, well appointed, seafood restaurant. I've been twice now. Once for lunch and once for after work happy hour. Both were great. For lunch I shared the grilled fish tacos, steamed clams in butter garlic, and the lunch combo. The lunch combo consisted of clam chowder, salad, and a grilled fish of choice (we got the trout). Everything was really good. The clam chowder was the Manhattan (the red) which I prefer because my body doesn't do cream very well. The M Chowder was really good. Lots of clams and vegetables. Our waitress also gave us samples of their other chowders, the salmon dill (cream based), and the new England chowder (the white). I was pretty flabbergasted by the salmon dill chowder. I must confess I've never thought much of dill in my early adolescents; however, I can't seem to get enough of the herb! This chowder was aaaamazing! Needless to say my body didn't thank me later. For the Happy Hour, it's a pretty good deal. Cheap appetizers and cheep booze. The draft beers on tap were a pretty good selection (Lots of IPAs). Oysters are $1.5 each which isn't bad. Neatly tucked in Manhattan beach, this place has every seafood item you could wish to have in a seaside restaurant. I have been here several times and never disappointed. located just North of Rosecrans on Highland this place is always hopping. Come early and expect to wait on most nights and even on Sundays. Both yummy, but this last time I was craving meat, yes meat at the fish bar and I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered the Mesquite Grilled Filet. My taste-buds were singing and so was my honeys wallet when he saw the price, at $19.99 - YES, $19.99 it comes with 2 sides! Parking is a bit of a pain, however, there are meters across the street at the small parking lot and sometimes you can luck out on Rosecrans. Went here for lunch today. I was surprised by the decor inside, but once I sat down I noticed the mellow vibe, and the crazy amount of flat screen TVs on the wall. Dropped in for lunch on Tuesday. Not only did they have the $9.99 lunch specials but taco Tuesday specials as well. Ended up ordering the clam chowder and Maui Maui special. I could eat here everyday and never tire of the menu. This is both a sports bar and restaurant and they do a fantastic job on both. 6 stars for food, service and overall happiness!
