Just passing thru the area and heard BBQ in the area was good. Choose this place on reviews and we were Definitely Happy we did! We were too late for the Pulled Pork, but the Chicken, Pork Ribs, and Tri-Tip was so tender, meaty, and juicy (def not dry!). Enjoyed the food so much, we didn't miss the Pulled Pork! Lol. Oh my, is this meat GREAT! Visited my brother's family over weekend. Instead of cooking, we got chicken, tri tip and pork ribs for six people. Fed 9 people for two nights. So delicious, reasonably priced and can I just say, I had no confidence that sliced chicken breast would be anything but painfully dry...NOPE! Moist, flavorful and so tasty that I reached for it twice instead of beef or pork. The sweet and jalapeño sauces are the bomb and the garlic rolls are delicious. Coming here for the first time, parking is very limited, and the outside is not most inviting. Give this place a chance and you won't be disappointed. I've ordered from this establishment several times in the past but it's been awhile. Maybe they've changed management because I've had no problems with them until last night. I ordered my usual: a full rack of pork ribs, 1 lb. Tri-tip and 2 small baked beans (there was no medium size on Grubhub's menu). Almost immediately I got a message from Grubhub that the ribs "had been taken off my order". No explanation. I'm assuming the BBQ restaurant ran out of ribs. I would get a credit on my credit card in a few days. I was really in the mood for ribs! My order arrives on time but now there's another problem. Instead of two containers of baked beans, I received two containers of pasta salad, which I don't like and ended up throwing away. I reported this to Grubhub and received another credit. T.O. Very old bbq joint! Been there since the 1950's! We tried the pulled pork, pork ribs, chicken breast sandwich, baked beans, potato salad & macaroni salad... all were awesome except the chicken. As much as it pains me to do this, it's the truth. I stopped going here regularly years ago. The quality and service has been steadily declining for years. Food availability had been spotty. I used to go here to buy bbq sauce even after I stopped eating there. Last time I went to buy sauce they stopped carrying the old locally made JK Western Pride and now are using some other sauce that is totally different. The place caught on fire about a year ago at this point and it is easy to tell by looking at the outside. Still haven't fixed the ventilation system. Unfortunately it's a run down shell of what it once was, it's dying a slow death at this point, surviving only on its name. That's my observation at least. Rude and unfriendly counter girl put two tiny ribs with literally no meat on each rib just smothered in salt. Pasta salad which was undercooked and hard to eat. The beans were soaking in the sauce. I have lived in the Conejo Valley since 1980. A long friking time. I have never been to the TO Meat Locker until hubby suggested it for lunch today. Hey, that sounds like a great idea, I said. We drove over at noon. Parked easily and walked in. No other customers in line. My husband had a fall in 2023 and is still recovering from a TBI. He's not swift at anything. The counter staff was ready to take our order. I responded that we had never been there before and needed a few moments. Another man behind the counter says, 'What? Why haven't you ever come here?' in an incredulous tone. I had no idea why I'd never come before and was somewhat speechless. Also, felt a little weird for being shamed for not having eaten there before. I'm here right now...why are you giving me grief? Let it go. Anyway, I ordered pulled pork sandwich and husband got tri-tip sandwich after having difficulty making a decision. Like I said, he is not able to think quickly and didn't understand when staff told him the three most popular choices. I had to help him order as another customer was now behind us but he wanted to look longer at the menu. Moments later we had two styrofoam claim shell containers handed to us. Ok it's great to have fast service but doesn't it take a little longer than this to put our order together? I paid and we went onto the patio and sat at a plastic picnic table. Ok no big deal it's not wood. I open my clam shell and see my sandwich wrapped in foil (????) and small sides of Cole Slaw and Baked Bean. The pulled pork was tender and plentiful but flavor was average; adding their BBQ sauce helped. But, why was it wrapped in foil? That made it soggy. Was this food prepped earlier and just sitting under a warmer? Perhaps the Cole slaw and beans will save the day. Again, average. Cole slaw needed more seasoning and sauce.
