Zero zero zero... unbelievably bad service. To start with almost all Subarus made a few years ago blow their head gaskets on about the exact same day the warrant runs out. Look it up if you don't believe it. And Subaru does nothing about it. They know they made junk engines and just let us all buy them. Horrible people. It cost $3000 to fix this. So of course my POS car blew its head gasket. Fitzgerald, in credit to them, did fix this for me just a few days past the warranty period. When they did, they assured us the car was good to go for a "long time". Not true. 40,000 miles later the thing blew its head gasket again. 40,000 miles. Both Subaru and Fitzgerald told us too bad, your problem. What kind of quality is this? Absolutely hate this dealer and hate this brand. 2.75. I've waited all winter to get my oil changed. I found a coupon for an oil change plus tire rotation for $19.95 on the back of a Giant Food receipt. I called on Friday afternoon to make an appointment for Saturday morning. He wanted to schedule me for 8:45 but I knew I would never make it there that early on a Saturday. I did schedule an 11:00 appointment. I pulled in to one of the service lanes, and I showed the person in a red jacket my confirmation email. I walked into the service center, and after a short wait, I let the service adviser know what I was there for. He was able to pull up my appointment, and I showed him my coupon. I then waited in the lounge, which was stocked with plenty of magazines, some Dunkin Donuts munchkins, and a Keurig machine which will brew coffee, tea, or Swiss Miss hot cocoa. The front desk attendant also walked around with a basket full of snacks. I waited an hour for my oil change. Not bad for a Saturday. He checked me out and informed me of things that were recommended. He said I needed a new air filter and light bulbs for my tag lights. I thought, "can I buy that at Wal-Mart or Napa for much less?" Then I went to my car, and unbeknownst to the mechanics, there was a deformity on my front drivers side tire, which proved that they did not rotate the tires as my coupon called for. I brought this to the service advisor's attention, and I waited another 30 minutes for the tires to be rotated. Due to the cold weather, they were unable to wash any cars, and a sign was posted alluding to that fact. Upon checkout, the advisor said he was out of rainchecks for the free car wash. However, he said if I bring back my receipt at a later date (preferably a clear sunny day) they would wash the car. So, Fitz owes me a car wash! read more

I was recently in the market for a 2015 Subaru Forester. One of the first places I went was Fitzgerald. I didn't feel as pressured there as other places, and I think this is largely due to the fact that the car dealers there don't get paid based on commission, rather they get a set salary regardless of how many cars they sell. My dealer was Peter. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the car (options, trims, car competitors, etc). 5-star rating for him. He took me for a test drive and I loved everything about the car, but I'm a thorough person and wanted to make sure to check other cars out before deciding anything. When I came back later in the week, he was happy to take me and my girlfriend for another test drive. After, I decided I wanted a baser model trim that better fit my needs without unnecessary extravagance. Surprisingly, Peter didn't try to up-sell the options, which I really appreciated. All-in-all, the experience was great and I knew I found the car I wanted. Peter was even able to find me the exact version with every particular option I wanted out in Gaithersburg and was going to have it sent to Rockville for me. The only reason I didn't buy from Fitzgerald is their "No-haggle" pricing. Yes, they have very 'good' prices for their cars. You can probably get around $2,000 off MSRP value without having to deal with the back-and-forth that many prospective buys find so stressful. If you're looking for a good price without the struggles of price negotiation, then go to Fitzgerald. I, on the other hand, don't mind doing a little research. After a little time and negotiation, I was able to find the same car for a grand less. It took some work, but it was worth it to me. read more

This review is for service on my 2010 Subaru Forester only. Take it with a grain of salt because I have had no problems with it as of writing this review. When you take your car in, you pull into one of two service lanes next to the main service office. A person in a red shirt takes down info about your car and gives you a ticket. You take the ticket into the office and tell them why you're in. I always make appointments online with a lot of detail of what I need, so the person bringing up my account usually already knows. They make recommendations based on mileage, which I usually am totally game for. They give you an estimate, you initial and sign, and then I head off to the waiting lounge. There is a Keurig and another really big coffee machine with more options, all of the coffee amenities, a huge flat screen, and several individual lounge chairs. There are also games and toys for kids, magazines, portable tables, outlets, you name it. They make several pizza orders per day, starting as early as 10:30 am. Sometimes I get bored and walk across the street to the Whole Foods, but on average, I'm in and out in about an hour and I have no complaints about the comfort of the wait. On service: I've had no problems whatsoever. They're courteous and I haven't had issues with pushing treatments I don't need. read more

Snakes in the grass. I was searching for a blue series Subaru BRZ and found that the Fitzgerald of Gaithersburg had one and the Fitzgerald of Rockville had one. I went to checkout the Gaithersburg one ( which I ended up buying the next week, check out my review of their dealership if you're interested ) and then after checking out that one I went to Rockville on my way home to view my other option. I walk in to their dealership that gridlocks their cars, I couldn't even find their BRZ, turns out it was wedged between three rows of cars so they would have to move three cars to get it out. I walk into their main building an am ignored, I ask if someone could show me the blue series BRZ I'm interested in buying it. A older man with a mustache and grey hair decides to. We walk out and walk around the stuck car, my friend and I notice a HUGE cluster of scratches, as if a lion had swiped the rear bumper cover... I asked him about this why it wasn't online, why he didn't tell me, and how does it effect the price? He tells me they don't negotiate, LOL So they would have let me buy that car, and if I brought it noticing later more than likely say I did it, would not adjust the price or offer to repair it (but who wants a repaired new car?) The whole experience was just a joke, I've had better ones with cars off of Craigslist than this dealership. It is unfortunate that my partner and I had such a bad experience at this location. We purchased a used Subaru from Fitzgerald with the assurance of an inspection which told us the car was in good condition when we drove it off the lot. After less than two months of ownership, we have had to have the car repaired twice, for over $1,000 total in repairs. The second repair was only two weeks after the first, so I'm still unclear on why the servicemen did not notice the issue during the first repair? Repeated conversations with staff and management showed they were unsympathetic to our plight. I really regret coming to this location and wish I had gone elsewhere to purchase my vehicle. read more

If you think Subaru's are well made - think again, assuming my 2018 Forester I purchased new from Fitzgerald Subaru less than three years ago is representative as follows. I had to buy new tires at 23K, seat upholstery uncleanable/permanently stained by coffee drips, wheel wells now falling apart after all the badly designed fasteners just vibrated out, windshield self destructed and the Subaru replacement turned hazy and is difficult to see through when raining. A few months after hitting 36K and the warranty expired the front control arm bushings failed badly impacting steering, and the AC compressor has also already failed requiring $1,400 replacement. Both very costly repairs - ridiculous for an alleged good quality vehicle less that three years old. I was advised the rear bushings will also need replacement soon, probably another $1,500K. If you are considering buying a Subaru because like me, you heard they are good quality, hardy cars that last, based on my dreadful experience I'm not sure you should believe it, perhaps years ago they were good quality, not anymore ? I strongly recommend against buying a Subaru. I will unload this clunker soon before it costs me another few thousands in repairs, and I'm actually thinking about a Ford this time. read more

Hard to understand the positive reviews. This was my first visit to this dealer and certainly my last. I brought my new Subaru to have the starlink fixed. I thought it might be a simple software issue which could be easily solved. Unfortunately, going to Fitzgerald was a mistake! i was told that two wires that connect the speakers to Starlink were missing. When I came to pick up the car, I thought that the repair had been done, but this was not the case. Apparently, the repair technician was told that I did not want the car fixed! I got the car as it was before without Starlink working correctly and I was charged $320!! I certainly don't recall having told anyone not to install a harness to fix the audio connection to Starlink. If this was the case, I would not have brought the car for repair. Unfortunately, I have now to bring the car back to another Subaru dealer for repairs, but luckily, there are much more competent Subaru dealers. read more

I vowed never to return here after they quoted me a ton of money for a routine service and added on a bunch of extra stuff that a second opinion said I didn't need. Then I had to go back for an airbag recall. After dropping my car off at 9am, I hadn't heard anything by 5pm. I called in and was put on hold three times. Finally someone answers and tells me that the car will not be ready until the next day because they don't have the part. It was a recall appointment that was scheduled a month in advance - how can they not have the part? Most of all, they should have called me when they realized my car wouldn't be ready instead of waiting for me to call in be put on hold over and over. read more

Today I came into the Subaru dealership for a twice confirmed appointment to get my tires aligned and my car seats installed correctly. I am 8 months pregnant and just started my maternity leave with this appointment being one of the first items I wanted to get taken care of. Upon entering the service desk the individual at the counter stated that I did not have an appointment and that the car seats would not be able to be installed on-site-even though this was confirmed for me twice over the phone. They told me I needed to go down to the Buick dealership to get my car seats installed. I was trying to avoid this type of confusion by confirming my appointment ahead of time because I am pregnant and was just trying to get this taken care of before the baby arrives. When I asked the service rep what they could do to help she said I needed to go to the Buick dealership. She made a phone call to someone while I was standing at the desk describing that I was 8 months pregnant and did not bring a partner or husband with me to help. It is ABSOLUTELY none of her business to question my decision to get my car serviced. I do not need my husband who works during the day to come with me to this service appointment. I was floored by this statement and began crying and feeling sick. The complete lack of respect from this customer service rep at this dealership was astounding. The manager finally stepped in to help sort out the service reps mistake and propose next steps in a responsible manner. Unfortunately, he did not wave the cost for the tire alignment and charged my credit card on file without my approval. All in all, I have never been treated so poorly by a dealership. I really hope the manager can step in and work with his staff to improve customer service at this dealership. read more

I had two generally positive service experiences at Fitzgerald Subaru before, but was always concerned that it was quite overpriced. Today corroborated that. I need a replacement fog light cover for the front bumper, which is a small plastic part with a specific part id#. According to the internet, the MSRP for the part at multiple DC-area Subaru dealers is $91. I emailed Fitzgerald Subaru about the part, and they replied quickly and said it was in stock and costs $123 plus tax (i.e., 32% above even MSRP). A quick google search revealed multiple online sellers for the same new original equipment part for $60, less then half of what Fitzgerald Subaru charges. I emailed back asking about the extraordinary markup, and received the unhelpful reply, "that is the price that comes up on our computer." Based on this quantifiable experience, I am worried that this business is not an economical place to get my Subaru parts and service in the future. read more

Lack of technical competence and underwhelming customer service were the hallmarks of my service experience here. I had to bring my Subaru in to Fitzgerald for warranty service. It took three service calls for them to correctly diagnose my electrical problem even though I kept telling them what the likely problem had to be. The first time they replaced my battery unnecessarily, even though I told them there had to be an electrical drain. The second time they did a software update even though I told them there had to be an electrical drain. Finally, on the third visit, they finally found the electrical drain. Each of the three visits required that they hold onto my car for more than a couple of days. Compounding the technical problems were the times they said they would call but did not. On the final episode they said they found the problem but needed a part. They said they would get the part the following Monday and would be able to fix the car and I could pick up the car that Monday. Once again, they over-promised and under-delivered. I couldn't get the car until the following day. I wish I had a better option for warranty service but there really isn't one. I wish I could give zero stars. Stay away from this place for service if you can. read more

They were so busy, but there was a woman to help me within minutes. They were able to work amazingly within my budget and answered all my questions. Elaina and her manager were incredible. I called Fitzgerald Subaru in Rockville to schedule a test drive for a specific vehicle. The website form did not work properly. I therefore called and was connected with Elaina Voysest who scheduled it for me and confirmed the availability of the specific vehicle (make, model, year) I requested. When I asked if she was fully vaccinated, she refused to say, citing HIPAA compliance which I told her was false. HIPAA does not prevent anyone from revealing their vaccination status to another. Therefore, I said she could not drive with me and she said I would have to sign a waiver allowing me to drive alone. I decided to contact the general manager at the Rockville store, Justin Harbold, who agreed that HIPAA is not relevant and he knew who was fully vaccinated and would have one of those persons call me back. Scott called shortly thereafter. After a discussion, he stated that in fact Rockville does not have the car I was seeking to test drive and that I would have to go to their Gaithersburg location. It turns out that Gaithersburg does not have it either. Based on this experience, I would advise all potential customers to avoid Elaina for refusing to tell me if she was safe to be inside a vehicle with, for falsely citing HIPAA as an excuse, and for falsely claiming she had the vehicle I requested. I expect honesty from employees at all businesses and did not get it. I was, however, pleased with both Justin and Scott who were helpful and did not try to evade or make false statements. read more

Over 2 1/2 months ago, my 2015 Hyudnai Elantra started having engine issues, the first mechanic I brought it to couldn't fix it so I brought it to a Hyundai dealer (Fitzerald Subaru in Rockville, MD). Within a few days it was found that my engine was no longer properly working and needed an entire replacement despite having only 63k miles on it. There was a known issue on this (despite no recalls sent) and through some research I did, I found that a lawsuit was recently finalized with a settlement, that extended the warranty for these issues. My service contact is Mohammed was very friendly at first. After it was determined the warranty would cover my engine replacement and they provided me a car while my car was being serviced, he said that it would take between 1-2 weeks to get the new engine and fix my car. Over a month later, I had still heard nothing back so I called and was informed they had no clue when the would get the engine and to keep the rental car until they called me. 2 1/2 months went by and I was looking at the owners manual for the rental and saw that the rental was due for service at 6,000 miles (no lights or service indicators were on) and we had recently passed 6,000 miles (received car with 1,559 miles on it). I called the dealer to ask about what to do and said I thought it needed service based on the manual but no lights were on. No one seemed to know what to do, I was transferred a total of 7 times (2 of which to the service department who never picked up and got me transferred back to someone else) and eventually someone setup a service appointment for the vehicle closer to my house (this dealer about 40 miles away). I was then transferred to Mohammed he was angry that the vehicle needed servicing. He told me that I wasn't supposed to be driving the vehicle that much (there were no mile limitations on this contract and I had it for 2 1/2 months). He told me I had to bring it back to them to switch out for another car and I told him the previous employee had already setup service for this car closer to me and I was currently not available to drive over there. He got angry and asked why I couldn't drive to Rockville and I said I was currently in Pennsylvania (I was in Gettysburg, less than 20 miles from my house) and he got irate. Mohammed said I wasn't allowed to drive that vehicle out of state (never told to me before and not on contract) and I explained I literally live within 15 minutes of 3 different states outside of Maryland, so telling me I can't leave Maryland is like telling me I can't leave my house, which defeats whole purpose of having a car. He then got really upset again that the car was at 6k miles now; however, I had the car for approximately 75 day, meaning I was only averaging about 60 miles a day, which is far from excessive amounts of driving and violated no rules or agreements. I asked Mohammed to speak to his manager and he ignored me. I ended up asking Mohammed probably close to 30 times to transfer me to a manager and he completely refused, he was just getting loud with me (and I was getting loud at this point as well as was extremely frustrated). I told him I was going to ask for his manager one more time, he refused again, so I hung up and called back and asked the operator to speak to Mohammeds manager. After some time waiting, I was transferred to someone who identified himself as the manager for the service department (I didn't write down his name). At first he was professional and let me talk, but that lasted maybe 2 minutes then he kept interrupting me and making excuses for Mohammed. He admitted there was no official agreement or requirement limiting the miles or places I could drive the provided vehicle, but never had an answer for why Mohammed got so mad at me when I did literally nothing wrong. I explained everything to the manager again, how the manual said service was needed at 6k miles and we were just trying to take care of their car but everyone was giving me a horrible time. The manager got really aggressive and just clearly wasn't listening to what I was saying and kept making assumptions without asking any clarifying questions. Since I had said I was in Pennsylvania, he kept assuming I was far away, I was literally less than 20 minutes from my house. He then demanded that I pay for the oil change myself as I put miles on the car (car had 1,559 miles before I got it) and that cost would be my responsibility. I informed him that was against what other 2 employees said and why would I have to pay for their cars service. He then threatened to charge me for driving the car without it getting serviced despite me saying several times the service lights were NOT even on. He then got mad car wasn't serviced at 5k miles despite manual clearly saying 6k. The manager went on to say how he was having personal issues but was trying to stay professional. I let him know he was NOT successful at being professional and was anything but. read more

We purchased a Subaru Forester on May 29 with the help of Mike Halperin. He was great. He described options within our price range. He was willing to show us several cars with a variety of options, all $3,000 to $5,000 below what we expected to pay. We found a Subaru Forester with 29k mileage for a great price. At no point did Mike pressure us, and he answered every question we could dream up. We did not go through that tiresome haggling thing. We saw cars in our price range, and they were quite a bit lower than elsewhere on the internet. Mike gave us a copy of the CarFax report. After we completed financing (getting a low rate) he explained to us how to use key features--and even helped us set up our cell phones. Now we've had the car six months. The gas mileage--with mostly city driving--is 29 mpg. We love the car. Dependable, comfortable, affordable. It may not be very soon, but I will DEFINITELY buy another car from Fitzgerald Subaru, and I hope Mike will be there. He took all the pain out of car buying and allowed us to make the choice. read more

Overall very unimpressed with this place. My wife and I ventured out to buy a car together for the first time and were pretty set on getting a Subaru. We found the forester we liked in the color we liked for a solid price at Fitzgerald, and we liked the idea of their no haggle policy. I also was glad to have found a preowned certified vehicle with very few miles. So we buy the vehicle and go home as happy customers. A couple days later we get a phone call - "Mr. Taylor not to alarm you but there's a leak in the roof of your car that was never fixed. " Hm, ok. Very interesting choice of timing to fix this problem. No worries, it's a 45 minute drive away but I'm glad they told me about this problem instead of avoiding it. So I take the car in and get a loaner car free of charge. They say it would be done over the weekend. I don't get a call after the weekend so I wait a day and call them, surprise surprise they haven't even looked at it. This calling and checking and lying about estimated dates goes on over the next two weeks and finally after pressuring them a little bit to get the car fixed I get the car back. They replaced some gaskets and the windshield. A week later it rains and not only is the roof of my car still leaking, but there is a foot long crack in the brand new windshield. I return the car for the second time and got another loaner car. Hoping they can make this right. Overall a pretty bad car buying experience. I left 2 stars instead of 1 because Peter, our salesman, was a very nice and no BS kind of guy. I would not recommend for people looking for a smooth experience and frankly wished I would have bought at another Subaru dealership in the area. read more

I went to this Subaru dealer to have my Takata airbags changed because they were under recall. They gave me a brand new Subaru to drive around in and the person handling my work who is named Nathan was very nice and helpful. They also fixed another recall item and I was very pleased with how things were going. So when Nathan asked me if they could check my 2013 Subaru for the 60,000 service I did not object and he also threw in an evaluation of my Forrester. Of course, then I get an estimate for over $2,000 worth of work that they said my car needed. As a female car owner I know that car dealers and mechanics take advantage because I don't know very much about how to fix a car mechanically. But I am not an idiot either. I know that you don't change a car battery that is running fine and was replaced 18 months ago for a 60,000 mile check-up. That was $175 that they would have just taken likely for doing nothing at all. So I got my car back and took it to the mechanics that I know and trust. I gave them the estimate from Fitzgerald Subaru and they called me this afternoon and went through it line by line with me and basically nothing that they said had to be done (even the must address safety issues) was wrong with the car. My mechanic did find a tire problem which Fitzgerald had mentioned but their solution to it was completely different than the dealer's. All these amazing customer reviews really? Look at the one star reviews and you will find out what you are getting. I used an alias on this so if Fitzgerald comes back, as it has on other reviews, and says I don't exist they are lying. Bought a 2010 Subaru Outback from Fitzgerald in the summer of 2010. Good price and the car has been great. But we had to get the windshield replaced by Fitzgerald soon after we bought it due to a scratch. Fast forward 11 years to summer 2021. The car has only 80K miles on it, but apparently that windshield replacement was done wrong, such that the area around the windshield is rusting out and we'll need to replace the roof at some point. The cost of that repair likely exceeds the value of the car. Don't get your car serviced by this dealer. read more

I took my 2016 Forester up the street and figured what the heck. I know they would have the right tires at least. So when I arrived they were fast and helpful. They could easily have upsold me for 2 tires but didn't. Their quote for the tire was only a few $$'s then their competitors so I gave them my business. My car was ready within a few hours and did a decent dealership wash. Are they the cheapest? Dealerships are never the cheapest. But these guys are honest, fast, and good local Subaru service. read more

This review is for the sales and delivery process at Fitzgerald Subaru. We went to the dealer after concluding that we were interested in a Subaru Outback. The Sales rep, Feleke Kenaa, was friendly, informed and eager to make sure we had all the information we needed to decide on the specific options and color for the Outback. The price offered by Fitzgerald was outstanding and we were able to accept quickly. They worked to locate the exact vehicle we wanted and delivered it to us the next day! At the time of the sale, Fitzgerald sets an appointment for a quick followup visit to answer any questions about the car after driving the it for a bit. We returned to meet with Kimberly Francis for follow up questions. She answered the few additional questions we had after driving the car for a few weeks. Also, she provided information on a couple of key points that I didn't know I needed to know! This was a very valuable followup. All in all, sales and delivery at Fitzgerald Subaru is outstanding. I was desperate in finding a car that works for me after a hit and run accident in which my previous was totaled. I went to multiple dealerships and had the worst experiences. When I arrived at Fitzgerald, everyone was so welcoming and courteous. But the one superstar that stood out was James "Jim" Heiman. Jim was the best Sales Specialist that I have ever met. He walked me through multiple car options and he made sure that he choose the correct car for my wallet and specifications. He was able to answer all the questions I had and even answered questions that I never even thought to ask! He made my car buying experience easy and fun - two words that I never thought I'd use when buying a car. He didn't make me feel pressured into making any hasty decisions and went out his way to ensure that I left the car lot happy. I was able to choose the car right for me and I cannot thank Jim enough for helping me throughout the whole process. He was very detail oriented and ensured that I knew about my new car inside and out. I highly recommend if you are buying a car at Fitzgerald, to ask for Jim to help with you car buying experience. 10/10 would recommend Jim as the best Sales Specialist at Fitzgerald/ anywhere! read more

This is NOT a reliable service center. My Subaru Crosstrek - which they sold me three years ago - had the starter motor die under warranty. They replaced it, but did not correctly replace the solenoid nut or check this, and so a week later the car died again and I had to have it towed (again). The service manager I dealt with at Fitzgerald Rockville, John Nietsee, did not apologize but was instead rude and aggressive. If there had been proper apology and respectful customer service, I might have overlooked the failure to repair my car properly, but maybe not. In any case, they have lost my business now! read more

Overpriced and fairly incompetent service staff. $80 for an oil change... $99 for a cabin filter... I realize dealerships generally charge more, but these are double the prices you'll find elsewhere. I came in for a factory recall, scheduling my appointment online. Clearly they didn't read or prep in any way, since they said they might not have the part and I'd have to come in again later (fortunately though, I guess they had it). Other places I've had my car serviced at least give a courtesy call ahead of time to make sure they understand and have things prepped for the work for the day. Not everyone can bring their car in on a moment's notice. To add to it, I asked them to check a burned out bulb in a taillight. I got the call that my car was ready for pickup, and only at pickup did they tell me they couldn't find the issue. (Wtf, how do you miss that? as a dealer, too!) In any case, they could have called, and I'd have given them more guidance. Now I'm getting spam calls and emails from them to bring my car back for another minor issue they identified... no thanks, I'll be taking care of that elsewhere. read more
