I worked as a waitress for years and I understand it can be difficult and I feel I am a little more understanding than most. This was the first time I ever had to ask to speak to a manager. It had nothing to do with the food or waitress, it had to do with the hostess. My fiancé and I were sitting on the couch area waiting for our buzzer to go off. We were sitting next to the case that holds the t-shirts. This hostess was first interacting with a customer who was asking her simple questions and she was very rude and giving one word answers that obviously did not answer the question. The waitress then went to get into the t-shirt case. Rather than asking my fiancé and I to move or even say excuse me, she stepped on first my fiances foot, then mine, then proceeded to kick my purse. She then just stood over us, leaning over my face, sliding the door into me, and having her butt right in our face. Customers who weren't even near us were getting frustrated for us. We were getting ready to get up and leave when our buzzer went off. Once we were seated I explained this to the manager who said he would speak to her. Not sure if he did since he didn't clarify which hostess it was and there were three standing up there. Our waitress was very sweet and on top of it, and the root beer float was huge a delicious. I hope that the management does take the complaint to heart, if not the hostess will ruin the experience for people before they even get to the good stuff. We will try this place again, but if we have a similar experience we will not be returning. read more

So, we usually love fitz's, but this was not a great visit. It was my husband's birthday. The little waitress girl forgot about that, so no float. No song. My daughter had a bottomless drink, noticed some kind of gross substance on the inside top of the glass. We asked for a clean glass. She took the glass. Then, came back with the same glass, just rubbed off the gunk. We could still see it, and the rub mark. We may need to try a different restaurant in the loop, next time. Oh, and we're pretty sure the busboy was stoned. Oh well, we had a good run with fitz's, but now, we're done! read more

This is my family's favorite place to eat in St.Louis. We love the root beer floats. The floats are have four enormous scoops of delicious vanilla ice cream. Thankfully they split the floats for the kiddos. My wife had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries, and she really enjoyed it. The kids had Mac and cheese, and cheese pizza. Their food looked good and they said it was good. I had a turkey club with a cup of gumbo. I loved the club, it had lots of turkey and was delicious. The gumbo was very tasty as well. Overall a fun place for the family, very good food, and friendly service. It also is in a nice area, with lots of parking. The wait can be very long at times. read more

Fitz's is my go-to restaurant when I am ready to be underwhelmed. Everything about this restaurant is average except the cool location and the ability to see them make their own liquids. The food is good, but not spectacular. The service (over the course of the past 5 years, so the mode) is average. It seems to be the place where we end up when we're around U-City and can't agree on anywhere else. Go Team Meh! read more

We ate here after the Go! STL marathon relay back in April. I had my mouth set on a bison burger, and was very disappointed when it was no longer on the menu. Our food was just 'ok', plain burgers and fries. So that's the reason for 3 stars. We sat outside and it was rather warm, but very nice day and service was great. Dearest Melan, So we went here for dinner before seeing The Piano Guys at the Fabulous Fox. I will never take you here. If I do, break up with me immediately and stab me in my non-existent eyes (more on that in a minute). They should not make pizza. Ever. Stop. Quit. It's bad.. or they should call it cheese with bread and stuff. The menu is the hardest damn thing to read.. It's like they took the Gestalt Principles and did the opposite. They should install shades on the windows behind the upstairs bar. If the sun is shining in there and you are sitting at a table in front of the bar area... then you will be blinded, probably for life.. burns the f'ing corneas out of your skull while you dine on crap pizza and pretend the 30 bucks you spent on food was just incinerated by the sun coming through the window. my friend and I made the trip out to Fitz's because we had a coupon for free root beer floats and it's something we've always wanted to try. However, our visit left us pretty disappointed. The floats were great -- delicious and enough ice cream for two, but when I got to the root beer, I realized it was warm. Not quite what I was expecting. Although our floats were adequate, the service we received was not great. When we asked for a minute to look over the menu, our waiter literally rolled his eyes at us. I know I can be a picky customer, but this really bugged me. Later, we asked for napkins (which we never received in the first place) and got another eye roll and obvious attitude from our waiter. We both ordered the sunshine burger which wasn't bad but wasn't great either. On the bright side, the fries were delicious and fresh!! When our waiter brought over our bill, we realized our waiter charged us for the floats that we had a coupon for, and we had to wait another 15 minutes for him to fix the problem. Overall, great root beer floats, good burgers, and not the best service. Might be a better choice for a weekday dinner or lunch! read more

The experience at this place is always a bit hit-or-miss. I am not that happy about their burgers, but their root beer and root-beer floats are always amazing. I also really like their chicken wings usually, but they were a bit under-cooked last time. wanted to find a kid-friendly place near where we were staying so we headed here. on a Monday night, it wasn't very busy, which I think is sometimes code for laziness at a restaurant. when our server finally came over, I ordered a grilled chicken salad for me and a kids chicken strips meal for my little guy. I asked for a side of ranch thinking that it probably came with something only to be charged for it on the bill. my salad was pretty boring, but not horrible. it's a cute restaurant and the soda was good, but it didn't have enough personality to make up for the food being pretty blah. read more

The loop isn't what it used to be, but this place is worth hitting up. It's a working factory, so you can see the soda being bottled. Cream soda and root beer served on frosty mugs. Get some toasted ravioli and go upstairs to the game room. This, along with Pi and Blueberry Hill, are the places to go in the Loop, and maybe go to Vintage Vinyl as well. read more

delicious! make sure you stay long enough to watch some of the bottling. this place is an experience. definitely make this a part of your St. Louis tour! you can get fitz's bottles all over. the restaurant is very good to help build the small operation's reputation. bottomless mugs are necessary. portions are huge so maybe you can get a float and give some icecream to all your friends. who has room for any of that after their meals? ughhhh it tasted so good but you just can't eat any more. we tried to waddle around the loop afterwards. that didn't go well. do the smart thing and go to fitz's after building up a good appetite walking around! read more

Most Saint Louisans will know Fitz's for their great locally made rootbeer and other sodas and it should stay that in my opinion. Mediocre food, served without any inkling of pride and achingly slow, this restaurant is a forced addition to an otherwise perfectly good soft drink company. I really think Fitz survives today mostly on the tourist dollar or otherwise ignorant clientele. There is nothing notable here save the exception of the rootbeer and floats. Do yourself a favor and beat the pavement on your way to one of the many other worthwhile eating establishments in the loop. read more

I've eaten hear a number of times and after each time I say to myself "So that is why I never want to come back!" The rootbeer is good (hence the two stars...because rootbeer by itself is worth at least that) but the food? Come on! Its boring tasteless burgers that are EXACTLY what you would expect in a bar-- and as a reminder while this place has a bar it is not A bar. The services takes for bloody ever. Loved this place! We had a party of 6 and waited about 20 minutes for a table which was fine. We had already decided we were all going to get floats which was a great idea and... also a bad idea! Great, because each different one we ordered was delicious, but bad because they are HUGE and practically ruined our appetites! Lol. The floats are not to be believed. Massive amounts of soda and ice cream and SO many different combinations of house bottled soda. WOW!! Our food arrived quite quickly which was nice and honestly I don't think one of us complained, we were all very satisfied with the taste, temperature, portion size and flavor. My fish and chips was really good. Tender pieces of fish and a nice thin crunchy batter which I look for. Perfectly seasoned and definitely worth the price. My husband's Porgy and Beef was a ton of food and very enjoyable, nice touch with crispy fried onions on top. My daughter loved the Sunny BLT which is a regular BLT with the addition of a nice over medium egg. Our waitress checked on us repeatedly and we were thrilled with the service we received. Definitely want to go back again, especially if we have visitors come into town. Worth the 30 minute drive for us to go. read more

There atmosphere is great, the service is also great. The chicken tenders are amazing. However they use whole chicken tenders in the buffalo chicken wrap, they could be cut up so it's better for the wrap. They put the lettuce on the outside, it was more of a garnish then a part of the wrap. The fries were okay, like something that you could get at Applebee's, not crispy, a little bit soggy, like they are microwaved. The Mac an cheese was dry, over cooked, and lacked cheese. The draft root bear was flat but that could have just been the tap upstairs. Floats are amazing. The ranch is pretty good too. May return to order something new. read more

Bottomless mug of root beer. First off the word bottomless is fantastic. I mean is there anything that is attached to the word bottomless that isn't great? Well the root beer is good, it's not the most fantastic I've ever had by any means, but it's good. The fried pickle chips were a pretty interesting appetizer, but I think we all wished they were a little crispier. I was in the mood for a burger, but unfortunately medium well is the only way they cook anything which is a big loss of a star for me. Now my boyfriend knows how much of a rootbeer fan I am, so when we were in the Delmar Loop after visiting the famous St. Louis Arch he suggested that we eat here. The restaurant also doubles as the bottling plant for Fitz's Rootbeer and you can watch the bottles as they travel down the line. Good home-cooked meals featuring American fare such as hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, etc. I ate the House Smoked Brisket Sandwhich - that was delicious and who wouldn't say it was since it had a fantastic Rootbeer BBQ sauce smothered on it. Forget trying to eat this like a lady - it was down and dirty, but delicious. Their rootbeer was, dare I say it...better than Barq's? Possibly, but most home-made rootbeers are to me. read more

Walked in and were seated within 10 mins (party of eight). Enjoyed watching them bottle my fav grape soda through the glass. Very cool old school bottling machines. Food was great. Fish tacos. We went there on a weekday for lunch and disappointed with the food and hygiene of the place. Service was fair though. A lot of uncleaned tables surround us till we finished dining. One group who sat beside us walked out of the restaurant after being seated probably after seing the mess. It seems like they are understaffed. The fried pickles was very salty and almost unedible. I tried a Cream Soda at another restaurant in town and fell in love. This prompted us to go to Fitz's restaurant and try more! We waited no more than 10 minutes for a table around 4pm. Which was good. We sat down, service was really great. Our server was attentive and friendly. My husband and I got bottomless mugs. The first was in a chilled mug. WONDERFUL! My first refill was not and wasn't as cold but I was ok. I ordered only a float, my family ordered food. After our food/float were delivered, NO MORE SERVICE. No further refills on the $4 bottomless soda. We had to flag our server down after 30 minutes of being done with our food for the bill because our hour and 20 minute parking meter was running out. What was real disappointing was my husband had mentioned he was going to order a float after his meal and we said we wanted to order a case of soda to take home. So Fitz lost potentially around $40 of our business because our server was everywhere but our table. We couldn't even make eye contact with him. So disappointed. The place wasn't even that busy. There were open tables around us. The presentation of my float was better than the taste. As many others have reviewed, the soda was warm when served with the float. The food was ok (from what the family said). Nothing to complain about there. read more
