We ate there the other day. I was very pleased. I consider this restaurants to be one of the best Greek restaurants in Washington.

I have been to Five Columns several times over the years including when it had a different name. This restaurant has lovely Greek food with wonderful amounts of oregano, lemon and garlic which every Greek restaurant should! My recommendations are: -the calamari - perfectly breaded and fried -tiropita (cheese pie with a filo crust) - this stuff is delicious with the hot cheesy interior and the flaky filo shell -spanikopita (cheese pie with spinach with a filo crust) - see tiropita above -greek salad - A yummy salad of lettuce, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives, pepperocini and tomatoes with their homemade Greek dressing will be the best you've had...promise! -lamb souvlaki - delicious bits of lamb, skewered and grilled with a Greek sauce (herbs, oil and garlic) slathered on. -the Greek sauce - just the most delicious stuff! -tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber, garlic) - another one of their delicious house made sauces -Greek potatoes (quartered potatoes roasted in the oven) - perfectly roasted skinless potatoes that are slathered in their Greek sauce after they come out of the oven. -baklava (walnut filling rolled in filo dough and covered with a honey like syrup) - this is homemade by the owners wife and is so good. I prefer it warmed up with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side! The best thing about this place is that most everything is made on premises by the owners. There are family members that cook in the kitchen and they also hostess and serve so it is definitely a family affair. There are some portions of the restaurant that can accomodate large parties so a great place when have a larger group. If you live in Bellingham or find yourself in need of some food when traveling through I highly recommend Five Columns. Its proxemity to I-5 makes it an easy stop too!! read more

The atmosphere is pleasant and clean. The wait staff were kind and helpful. However, the price was way expensive when you consider the poor quality of the food. The salmon, dry and rubbery. Potatoes dry and seemingly rewarmed. Another dish my dinner companion was eating tasted like hamburger helper. Greek salad is a favorite salad I order in other restaurants and this was the worst ever - bland and not at all tasty. This is definitely a one star restaurant for Bellingham. 25 dollars a plate we walked out spending 80 for three dinners that were very disappointing and we were frustrated. The service here was poor and was more geared towards senior citizens. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked over the menu and more than half of it was American cuisine. I mean, come on, a burger in a Greek place? And the waitress only filled my water once. read more

My family has been frequenting this restaurant for many years now and it's amazing every time. The Saganaki is the best I've ever had between Bellingham and Vancouver, and the Paidakia (sp?) lamb chops are wonderful. They introduced me to pea soup in a way that has me permanently addicted! I hate to do this, but I have to give a low rating. My food was pretty good (I had a pasta dish), but the service was so ABYSMAL that it made the entire experience miserable. A group of 20 of us came in at once, so I would expect things to move a little more slowly, but after 90-100 minutes in the restaurant, half our party had not been served any food at all. Meanwhile, other tables who arrived later than we did had been served, eaten, and left. When we mentioned this to the wait staff, they turned it back on us as if it were our fault for daring to bring in a large group of people. Heaven forbid they should make any money. read more

Awesome steaks and very nice servers who don't mind your coming in extremely late (and they got rewarded with a big tip for it) for a party involving a bunch of weird nerd grrls who were parting and not about to be reunited anytime soon as we all ended up moving all across the country. The calamari is also excellent, and the coffee brewed up good. A solid Mediterranean themed steakhouse, rather than a true Greek restaurant as such, but that just means it's a heck of a lot better than all those chain steak houses out there. And by Bellingham standards, well, what more can you ask for, seriously? read more

Disappointing, the price for the quality of the food was unrealistic. The food was not cooked to order; the chef needs to learn not to use the microwave. I was really hungry walking in, walking out I wish I could have gone back in time and found somewhere else. The waiter was very good, but that's not saying much considering their was only 5 guest in the restaurant. I have no issue paying $20-30 a plate. If it is at all worth it. This place needs to change. Good but in my opinion a little overpriced for what you get. For $14 on a gyro I expect it to have a little more trimmings or at least have a little more to it, so to speak. It was rather good, however so all 3 stars should be considered towards that. We weren't looking for a Greek restaurant, but it found us, as it loomed ahead of us on the street just as the family was telling me how hungry they were. What a great find! The service was excellent, which is something I don't find myself saying very often. The menu seemed very authentic. We started with the hummus and pita, which was very fresh and deliciously seasoned.There was fresh bread at the table as well, which was warm and welcoming. I had the calamari plate with Greek potatoes and Greek salad. the potatoes could have used a wedge of lemon, but still good, and the calamari cooked tenderly. My family had the steak and Moussaka, and were pleased with it, with leftovers to boot. The Five Columns was a little on the expensive side for a family on a budget, but it was really good food and service, worthy of a second visit. read more

So as far as Greek goes, this place does get points for decor and ambiance. But as food goes.....a little work, some elbow grease, and maybe google-ing some Greek recipes could help. Saganaki is an all-time go to appetizer for most Greek places but the one i got here was a little more tough that i would prefer. It was pretty hard to eat the flaming cheese because usually when something is on fire, its suppose to be hot yet their Saganaki felt like the only burn it got was freezer burn. Also, their Greek inspired steak (which i ordered medium rare) came.....well...very rare on the inside yet had the whole charcoal, burned by a flamethrower look. On the bright side, our server was friendly and very accomodating. Not gonna be a favorite Greek restaurant anytime soon, but hopefully they get better. read more

Bright and airy, friendly and accommodating wait staff, solid Mediterranean food. Came here twice during our visit to Bham. Had the monthly special, which was BBQ spareribs and lamb chops. Great choice. Ribs were meaty, and tender, more of a dry rub, than a BBQ sauce. Lamb loin chops were very tender, thick, well seasoned, and perfectly medium rare. Reminds me of the lamb chops at Costco, which I think are excellent. Rice pilaf was very good. My wife had the chicken souvlaki, which was very tasty, but a little dry. Also tried the day's special garlic steak, which was very tasty, cut about 3/4 inch thick, and done perfectly medium rare. Wasn't the most tender steak I've had, but was okay. My wife also had the shrimp scampi, which was very good. Yeah, I'd come back, if we're back in town. read more

We stopped here for lunch today....actually we were planning to go to the hamburger place next door but they were having a $2.99 special and there was a line around the block, so we decided to go to Five Columns instead......I am sure glad we did. I have been to way to many restaurants lately where the food is inedible and the service is non existent... This place had a nice atmosphere and the food was impeccable! And reasonably priced too! But the best part was the service...I wish I could remember the young mans name who waited on us but he knows who he is :) He did a great job taking care of us and at the very end he spilled my drink...there was just a little bit in it and it was no big deal but he felt really bad. If you are reading this always remember that we ALL have accidents....if you are a waiter for any amount of time you will eventually dump a whole tray of food on someone.....its not whether you have accidents that matters it is how you handle them and you handled that perfectly!!! My boyfriend, his grandma, and I came here for dinner about two weeks ago, the young lady that served us was so sweet. She was a little slow with our bread, but did a great job with our water. When we saw the menu we got really disappointed. More than half of the menu was non Greek food. We really wanted some Greek food so that was kind of disappointing. I got the lamb chop, which was pretty good. My boyfriend got the flaminyon with bacon and his grandma had the ribs. They both said it was great. All in all, the food was great but the selection could had been better. Expect to spend a little more than $50 for two here. read more

Been going to Five Columns for years and keep going back because it's a very friendly place with real good reasonably priced food and you always get a good table and fast service. The Greek ribs are amazing as is the chicken Greek salad...steaks are great. Family run restaurant that takes pride in what they do. The service was great. We had the monthly special (tzakziki and pita bread, a chicken skewer, rice pilaf, and some yummy spinach filled something) and he had the lamb gyro with a saganaki appetizer, which was lit on fire at our table. It was a LOT of food and everything was really good. The server was really attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was a little weird, and only about 6 tables were filled, but it was a Sunday evening. My wife and I have frequented many restaurants over the years, even owned/managed our own, and we have to say, we were extremely impressed with the food here! The decor leaves a bit to be desired but the service was excellent, we could tell the food was fresh and the prices were very reasonable for what we got. We split the Greek platter that included tiropita (deliciously flaky and melt in your mouth feta) & spanakopita, Greek salads, moussaka, dolmades, Greek style ribs and rice pilaf which we subbed for mashed potatoes. Everything was seasoned perfectly, the ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and everything tasted homemade. Our compliments to the culinary team! Next time we're visiting Bellingham we'll be sure to eat here again! We'd even go so far to say, it's the best restaurant meal we've had in months! read more

The souvlaki plate prices were insane - somewhere close to $30 (the menu online doesn't show the prices for me to confirm the exact amount). The tzatziki was heavy and warm. We stopped here on our way from Vancouver to Seattle on the recommendation of a friend. They described it as being a clean, reasonably priced restaurant with good Greek and American food. It was easy to find and just off the main road. A sign on the entry door said they would be serving fresh halibut starting on the weekend. My husband is a big fan of halibut and we were hoping to find a seafood restaurant serving it while on the West Coast. We just hadn't expected to find it on the menu at a Greek restaurant but we decided to give it a try and we were glad we did. Done to perfection and melt in your mouth good. Generous sized portions, probably averagely priced at $27. per plate. I must give a shout out to the young lady who was our waitress. As well as being delightful and attentive, she was also very proficient and excelled at her position, while also being able to give that extra touch that would keep customers returning again. We live in Pa., but if we're ever in the area again, this restaurant would be on our list. read more

Unfortunately, I cannot review the food at Five Columns. I was not given the chance to try it. I walked into the restaurant at 8:50 (the posted hours on the store front and the website say that they are open until 10pm) and was rudely informed that the kitchen closed at 9, and therefore they were already all but shut down, and that I would have about 1 minute to peruse the menu before the kitchen closed. My friend and I were sat at a booth, where it was quite clear by the way our tableware was slammed onto the table that we were not welcome guests. We were again told that we had 1 minute to decide on what we wanted from the 4 page menu. We decided at that point that it would be best to leave, rather than inconvenience the staff by showing up over an hour before closing time for a meal. I don't mean for this to sound petty, but the service was unprofessional, and completely out of line. Having worked in the food industry, I understand how frustrating it can be when a customer waltzes in 10 minutes before closing time and doesn't leave on time, and I try very hard not to be that person by being very cognizant of closing times and how long I plan on being at an establishment. While our server could not have known that I had every intention of being through with my meal well within the hour and ten minutes before closing time, his attitude and nasty demeanor were unacceptable and extremely off putting, Five Columns has lost a customer based solely on their awful customer service.
