Went to 5 guys for the American experience of eating a juicy burger. Saw the menu price and I was automatically turned off. $11.39. It ended up being $12.07 after taxes. I've been going to 5 guys since the early 2000's and the burgers were way better back then and bigger. After ordering my burger I got home, opened it and they put the mayo and ketchup on different buns. It had all of the toppings that I asked for and plenty of . Bit into it and it didn't have any flavor. For $12 I'm expecting this thing to be on point. That wasn't going to stop me though. I have been meaning to write a review on this venue because I love them so much I keep going back. There are two by me but this is the one I frequent the most. I don't know if their beef is grass-fed or organic but nevertheless, their burgers are cooked to order and everything is so fresh. I really appreciate how they use green lettuce and leave the white lettuce out of my burgers. The potatoes are from Idaho and they will post where in Idaho they are from which I thought was cool. Their Cajun fries are perfectly crunchy and they often give you more than just a regular size order. I also love that they have coffee shakes because most places do not offer that flavor. Before the pandemic, you were able to snack on peanuts while waiting for your burger. Now that has all been taken away for public safety. They do have other options besides burgers like hot dogs and veggie burgers (which is all the vegetables they use on the burgers and that is all) but why would you order anything else from a burger venue. I definitely wouldn't. I have been back multiple times to various locations. I went today and I ended paying $26 for a cheeseburger, large fries, and a soda drink. The burger was $11 something, the large fries was $7.50, and the regular soda drink was $3. Why $26 you ask? The rest was the 20% tip which was a big mistake. Note that it literally cost them under 10 cents for the drink. The burger and fries were very oily and soggy. The staff were very snobbish as if they were a better human being than you. They seem very displeased that they had to make my meal after I paid them. The beef had zero flavor and was thin and greasy, the pickles, mushrooms, onions and cheese had very little flavor. Put it all together with mayo, ketchup and mustard.... and it was a big grease-goo-ball burger. The fries were good, but greasy too... This is not the same 5 Guys from just a few years ago. This has to be one of the largest locations that I've ever been to. It was clean, without a bunch of peanut shells all over the floor, and the have two if the fancy soda machines. I came in at around 11:30am on a Sunday, and there were only tow other people sitting down and eating. The first order of business was to get a cup full of the free peanuts, to wet the pallet. I already had an idea about what I wanted to order, and it would be the humongous hamburger combo. I came to find out, that they don't actually sell combo meals, and all of the items are sold separately. I guess this restaurant chain feels that they don't need to sell combo meals, because their food is just that darn good, people will more than likely buy the dries, and definitely buy the drink. I have always consistently had great food and great service from this location, but today was different. All was going well, asked for extra crispy fries as usual, and right in front of me in the loudest of voices, the manager starts yelling at the lady fixing my fries. Telling her to watch her fry level. But it was very awkward for me because it was like I did something wrong. Why does she feel the need to yell so loudly to someone like 5 feet from her?? the entire place heard her!! Everyone was looking at me like I'm starting some mess. I specifically like the Little Cheeseburger and small fries. The serving sizes are quite generous. The fries are very fresh and consequently could be reheated in a convection oven the next day if necessary. I also recommend the milkshakes which look to be richer than McDonald's. This restaurant sits adjacent to a McDonalds so I feel the competition keeps Five Guys on their toes. They differentiate themselves with more generous serving sizes and fresher tasting food. Also Five Guys has more topping options. Five Guys does not need frozen food as much as McDonald's does. One easy area of improvement, in the men's restaurant, the sink faucet appeared to be non-operational which prevented me from washing my hands. This is very easy to fix and a quick win if the management can get this fixed. A clean and operational bathroom says a lot about the cleanliness of the kitchen staff hands too. Overall, I recommend visiting here and witnessing why Five Guys makes a fresher and better tasting Cheeseburger over McDonald's. read more

This past summer, I went to Idaho Falls to tour the potato fields. You might think that sounds dull, but me, I love to travel and I love to talk with the people who grow my food. The whole tour, everyone was talking about the potatoes they supply to Five Guys. It's a big deal. I have never had Five Guys before today and I probably won't again. It wasn't that anything was wrong with the burger, per se, it just wasn't all that. Now granted, I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled mushrooms, and mayo. The only burger I've ever had that was greasier was a Butter Burger in Wisconsin (acquired taste). Three hours later it is sitting like a lump in my stomach. I also ordered a small cajun fries. Kudos for the portion size. There were a lot of meh fries in the bag. Soggy, floppy, over-seasoned mess. There is suppose to be something special about these fries? The cajun seasoning was cayenne pepper and a whole boat-load of salt. My husband's "regular" order of unseasoned fries were HUGE soggy, floppy, under-seasoned mess. He threw half of them away. Milk shakes! Who doesn't love milk shakes? I'm not sure what this was. A cold, soupy, flavored thing in a cup. Even Micky D's shakes have some heft to them. Service: I ordered online. It said 8 minutes - I arrived within 12. I walk up to the counter to have the server say, "You'll just have to wait a moment." OK, then. This was my first Five Guys experience, and it was so bad that I didn't give those delicious burgers another try until 2 years later. My second experience was in Old Town and that time the burger was juicy and succulent. Since then, I have revisited the Richmond Hwy location which I use to view as the seen of a crime, and I have to say that their burgers are no longer dry and bland. However, I can't put my finger on it, but there is just something a little off about this location. Perhaps it is the sketchy nature of some of the clientele or Rt 1's always oh, so ugly ambiance, but in any event, this is not my go to Five Guys, but one I can live with if the Five Guys craving gets too much for this carnivore. read more

Having said that....Five Guys is really great for what it is, a *better* fast food burger...and I had a good experience here at this location. A tasty, fast, fresh burger and good fries. I want to desperately love Five Guys. God knows, I've given them so many chances and so much of my money. But, I've never had a perfect meal at Five Guys and for how much I'm paying-- that really is just unacceptable. Especially at this location, my complaints are as follows: - Burgers are wrapped in that foil wrapper that causes the buns to get all soggy and wet and just plain nasty to handle. A burger should be able to be held in one's hand, not falling apart. What's the point of the hamburger bun if you have to use the wrapper to eat the darn thing? - Fries are so inconsistent. Sometimes the seasoning they use doesn't get on all the fries. This results in some fries being over-seasoned and some fries being un-seasoned. Quite frankly, I'd rather they just not salt the fries and just leave me to the Heinze ketchup. - Stingy as fvck with some ingredients. If I want BBQ sauce, I want A LOT. Not a tiny bit. I didn't realize that I was paying by the microlitre! - Burgers are just so dry and tasteless. I don't know what kind of beef they use, but why can't they just SEASON THEIR BEEF BEFORE THEY COOK!!!!
