I'm familiar with Five Guys but I've never reviewed one. Now as for a quick burger and fries meal, I much rather have a burger here than at the Bj's across the mall or BK on the 3rd floor. The burgers are not pretty whatsoever but theres no way someone will say they lack flavor. This is your spot when you want greasy and fatty comfort food. For about $25 (after-tax), I got a bacon cheeseburger, a little cheeseburger, large fries and a water bottle. The price could be a bit lower but it's not like I eat here often. An order of large fries was more than enough for 2 for sure. I wish the burgers were a bit bigger but who doesn't wish their food was always bigger than what they ordered? The service, although the employees are kind, is pretty "meh." The cashier was really spacey and I had to repeat my order a few times. If you're going to need anything on the side or altered, make sure you do it as soon as you order or get your food--it can get difficult grabbing someone's attention. I've tried this Five Guys twice now. 1st time just for their bacon burger. It felt solid and heavy coming out of the bag. Was interested that they serve a well browned double patty. It was pretty juicy and ok on flavor. 2nd time stright burger. Seemed dry and small for $5. Ordered a small fry after reading Yelp talk about fries da shit @ FGB&F. They gave me a whole bag Full as a small so no complaints about the portion. In fact thanks for the Extra fries Bro. The quality of the frie was excellent potatoe flavor and freshness, but the cripness was not there. For a double cooked fry these shoulbe be super crispy and stay that way. Either something went wrong or these fries just aint what they are hyped up to be. I don't think 5 Guys is up to snuff with the other 2.5 million burger options out there. Maybe it's me but, it was so-so. At 1:30pm in a weekday. I had the single patties and it was big. The cheese tasted processed and too much mayo. The meat itself was ok, not a lot of flavor. The fries tasted freezer burnt, it's like they were trying to deep fry thick potato and did it unsuccessfully. The atmosphere was terrible. The radio was BLARING grudge rock and I could barely think. Thankfully they have outside seating as well as mall table seating. I did like the bathroom, clean and multi-gender use. The soda machine was high-tech and had a lot of tea flavors. My meal was over $14 dollars and I think that is high. I would gladly take in and out or Mcdonalds over this place. I didn't find the staff overly friendly. read more

I had an early lunch at this location today. I've never been here before. The cheeseburger was okay. I didn't have the fries. I asked the server if they had combinations of burgers, fries & a drink. He quickly responded that they didn't have combinations & suggested a milkshake. I thought $4.00 was too much for a shake. I did have some peanuts while I was waiting. After reading the not so great reviews, I decided to give Five Guys a fair chance anyway. To avoid comparing this chain to In n Out, I chose to order the veggie burger. It tasted good, but I do have to agrees with the reviews that said they missed the pattie. It basically was a tasty portion of mushrooms between two buns. I wouldn't call that's veggie burger. And I also wouldn't say that the price was fair for the amount of food that I received. 2.5 stars I've heard a lot of buzz about Five Guys lately that I decided to try it. The menu has more options than In-N-Out Burger, however it's much pricier. I order the little bacon cheeseburger. It's called little because it only comes with one patty unlike the regular burger with two patties. The additional toppings were free, and I chose were lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, and mushrooms. The burger was tasty (3.5 stars). The veggies were fresh, and there was crispy bacon in every bite. It was good but not amazing. I hated the fries (1 star). Fries can make or break any burger experience for me. Although they were hot, they were soft and soggy. I like a crispier fry even if it's only a slight crisp. A friend of mine mentioned the fries were bad, but I wanted to see for myself. The woman that took my order wasn't very friendly and was a bit rude. It's a decent stop if you're already shopping at the mall, but it's not worth driving down Sepulveda just for these burgers and sad fries. I still prefer In-N-Out Burger. read more

I first heard about the Five Guys in Carson and then I read a big article about it in the L.A. Times recently. It is difficult to compare the burgers here to In-N-Out...I would say they are both good in their own way. Just like if you were to compare the burgers at Carl's Jr., Burger King, McDonald's, and Wendy's...They all have their unique taste. It all has to do with preferences. I got the little hamburger which has one patty and what they call "everything" or "all the way" which includes mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. The other free toppings include relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A-1 Sauce, barbecue sauce, and hot sauce. The burgers are wrapped in plain foil and come in a plain paper bag with no logo. Our burgers seemed to have been done medium and not medium well. Kudos for having a good selection of toppings. We chose mushrooms and A-1 sauce. The fries are very good and fried in peanut oil. What can I say? 5 Guys just make some solid burgers! This location is probably my favorite one. I love the high ceiling and the fact that there's plenty of sunlight thanks to the glass windows. The layout is a little weird and tables are packed since it is in a space inside the Westfield mall, but still spacious enough to handle a lunch crowd. Good emphasis on the patty, where it's large & still juicy. The toppings here complement the burger well. Quality of meat patty is good, no gristle or gross parts. Total lunch price for a double-cheeseburger, regular size (yet enormous) fries, and soft drink came out be $11.50-ish or so. I'd recommend skimping in the expensive $2.75 soft drink. ***Detailed Review This was the first time I've tried 'Five Guys'. Generally not a huge fan of fast-food burgers, i wasn't optimistic. Food here takes a bit of time to come out. During the lunch rush, I took maybe 15 mins to get my burger, around the same time as say 'In N Out' or 'Fatburger'. This is a good sign as food is concerned, as you know they prepare it there & then. To the burger, I ordered a double patty cheeseburger (around $5.50). There is NO charge to include extras like mushrooms, grilled onions, etc. I opted to add everything without pickles. When you bite into this burger, it's the patty that you notice. It dominates in flavor & in texture. Everything else complements it well, instead of being distracting. The patty itself is pretty large, maybe 3-4oz per patty. (as opposed to In N Out's 2oz). A double patty would thus equate to around 6-8oz, which is very reasonable quantity wise. The patty is also shaped pretty thick. In terms of preparation, it's probably medium-well. it's not over-cooked, and remains pleasantly juicy. The meat, I felt was a little fatty and that gave the patty some extra flavor. If there was any seasoning at all, it was fairly minimal. Burger bun is a pretty conventional sesame seed burger bun. It's a safe choice flavor wise, but can fall apart easily. The cheese used is American cheese, similar to what you would get at In N Out, but it's presence here is more subtle. There is less cheese used, the flavor probably isn't so strong, and it appears less goey. I actually prefer this because I feel American cheese can be a bit overpowering. Here it isn't. It's also melted in well. Grilled onions and mushrooms are chopped into smaller bits. The portion here is a tad more skimpy than I'd prefer, but it does add a nice touch in flavor. Likewise the mayo used is very light, and not a lot of it is used. Overall, I find "Five Guys' to offer a very satisfying fast-food burger. It's very balanced, generously portioned and the quality of the meat is admirable for fast food. I'm happy with their burger, and can't stop thinking about it. The fries, yes, they weren't bad. Not over-seasoned. Not too greasy. They have a lot of potato skin, and that shows in it's flavor. Definitely good, and the portions are huge even in regular (smallest you can order) size. For some reason, malt vinegar, is also available at the counter, and I felt it went pretty good with the fries. At $2.75-ish, the fries aren't a bad deal. Conventional soft drinks are available at $2.75-ish, and that's where I think it's a bit of a rip off and not worth it so much. They could have done better here by offering a more interesting selection, or just cheaper prices. No milkshakes or alcohol served unfortunately. Another reviewer mentioned that 5 guys doesn't really compare to 'In N Out' as much as it does to Burger King, and I agree. Both have a light mayo & rely more on the patty. The emphasis between In N Out & 5 Guys could not be more different. Whereas I feel 5 Guys focuses on the beef patty, I think In N Out has more emphasis on their sauce, greens, onions, and bun. The bun @ In N Out is better, and so are the grilled onions and the greens. They don't have shrooms and bacon however. To me, the beef patty is the most important part of a burger. The patty at In N Out is much smaller & thinner. It's almost as if it's an afterthought. Ultimately it's a matter of what type of balance you would prefer, but the emphasis is very different. For me, 5 Guys is more effective, because I prefer their approach, and well honestly I'm not too crazy about the In N Out sauce and I always remove it. It's too sweet and overwhelms the patty imo. It also trumps Fatburger in that the quality of meat is better. There is no gristle at all, and the patty is a lot juicier. I really like the customization option for your burger. Many options and you can pick and choose to your preference. I had a small hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, green peppers, grilled mushrooms, and A1 steak sauce. My wife and I finally got to check out the infamous Five Guys on New Years Day 2012. The hype was significant so we were pretty excited. The place was packed when we arrived at 6:30pm. Fortunately we called in advance and learned they were closing at 7pm that day. We got in line and figured out what we wanted to order. There was only one person at the register and the people in front of us were slow, so it took a while to make it to the front. We placed our orders and the total came to a little over $20 for a bacon cheeseburger, a little bacon cheeseburger, a large order of cajun fries, and a regular soda. Far from cheap, but was it worth it? We sat down and enjoyed some of the complimentary shelled peanuts while we waited for our food. A little while later, our order number was called and I grabbed our bag of grub. I got the bacon cheeseburger All the Way, plus onions, jalapenos, and hot sauce. My wife got the little bacon cheeseburger All the Way, without tomatoes, but added jalapenos. We both opened up our packaging and observed...wrongness. Lots of it. My wife's burger had no pickles or jalapenos, but had tomatoes. My burger had no onions and no jalapenos. :-( I went to the counter and asked for a side of pickles and jalapenos from the guy doing the fries and bagging the orders. He called it out twice to the person working the condiment allocation. She ended up ignoring him, so I waited a couple minutes and then just asked another person behind the counter for the sides. Very frustrating. Order mastery of In-N-Out, this is not. That said, the burgers were pretty great. A nice balance of salty, slightly sweet, lightly spicy, etc. Great textures. Very juicy patties and awesome cheese. Great burgers. In-N-Out good? Well, it's different, but it's certainly tasty. Just a bit overpriced. Oh, and the hot sauce must be Tabasco or something because it was very very mild and runny. Had they got the orders right, it would have been really nice. Oh well. The fries were nicely seasoned and paired well with ketchup. However, $5 for the large is still robbery. They are good, but not THAT good. Summary: Great quality. Burgers are very tasty and ingredients work well. Orders came out inaccurately and I had to wait a bit while I tried to get someone to give me condiments they forgot to put on the burgers. Service needs work. Prices are also a bit too high. Especially for the fries (which were pretty tasty). I had tried this location once before and also had their food from their Torrance and Westwood locations. The burger: the bun was above average for a fast food place. Not too doughy or spongy like McD or BK or Carl's or InNOut. The patty was high quality, not the best like you make at home but definitely real hamburger, not fast food mystery meat with lots of gristle. I ordered my burger will grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and mustard. Tasty even though the mushrooms are the bland, canned variety. The fries: cooked in unhealthy but delish peanut oil. They came out hot, limp, and soggy, A fail. Soda: they have a coke machine with maybe 100 different soft drinks. The cost: my meal came to $14.50 with tax, not cheap. I can dine in many ethnic restaurants and have a real sit down dinner for that level plus a 20% tip. So it's relative. Ambiance: loud rock music, too loud to talk. Very spartan furniture and harsh lighting. Now, having done my due diligence with several tries, I am now over the 5 Guys craze and ready to return to In N Out Burger for my boyga with extra extra grilled onions, a grilled onion slice, mustard fried patty, extra toasted bun, and extra lettuce. This is the second Five Guys that I have tried in Southern California. The restaurant is set up similarly to the other Five Guys - boxes of peanuts with cardboard baskets and scoops, ketchup dispensers and soda fountain for self service. They have the same selection of toppings (lettuce, tomatoes, grilled or raw onions, jalepenos, etc.) to customize your burger. I ordered the little cheeseburgers and a regular order of fries (with a gut busting total of about 1200 calories). I asked for the cajun spices on the side for the fries. Similar to my visits to other Five Guys I found the burger to be just okay. I am not sure if Five Guys have different policies in California than in other states but the quantity of fries is definitely less than I have received in Virginia, but there were plenty of them. The restaurant was clean and the staff was pretty efficient about taking, cooking and serving everyone's order. This location is conveniently located in the mall. The rude woman cashier told us that they don't have regular sized drinks and that we can buy a bottled drink or a large fountain drink, then only roughly 1/3 of the soda options were available in the machine.
