I have been to Five Guys a few times now but this location makes it difficult to enjoy. The burgers are tasty and they give you a nice variety of toppings but after all of the hype this place is getting, it really isn't that great...it's just new. The interior design is sterile and the abundance of white tiles make it seem like you're eating in a bathroom or hospital. The laminated reviews plastering the walls make the place seem cheap yet I ended up taking my girlfriend and spending over $20 for 2 burgers, 1 order of fries and a drink. For that price you can go to a restaurant, be served and get desert. The cajun fries were really good and the free peanuts to snack on is a nice touch. I would definitely eat at Five Guys again but when there is an In N Out 20 feet away, it really is a no brainer. read more

After seeing the president on national T.V buying burgers at 5 guys I thought it was someplace special. Workmates made a run at night and for $10 I got a burger and fries in a greasy brown bag. Enough fries for about 3 people and they were soggy. I gave them a second chance and for $5 I got an order of seasoned fires. Again soggy, greasy and I can't say for sure they were seasoned. This is the best "fast" burger in town. I'll never eat another In-n-Out burger again (I wasn't much of a fan of In-n-Out before anyways :) This burger is more akin to a Faturger with personality. The taste of the meat is what puts this burger over the top. The secret is the quality of the beef - which is of a higher grade and higher cost than any of their competitors. Any hamburger place that has a policy that will only cook a burger well done tells me that the quality of the meat and the refrigeration is sub par. I can understand if you will not cook medium rare but when i am told that this is a corporate policy to only cook well done, this is not a place that I will spend my money. In and Out, Habit, Stonefire, and The Stand are so close and all less expensive and will cook that way I request. I will chose to spend my money at one of these locations. The only reason this particular location is even getting more then 1 star is because how much I love Five Guys burger and it's the closest to my house, however whoever is hiring these less then capable and less then motivated employees gets a negative star. You flip burger in the order they come then you serve. Every time this place messes up. I ordered pick up more then once way ahead of time and when I get in they are like oh so sorry we didn't get to it, the whole place is usually empty. So they don't do sh*t just runs the clock. Five Guys' success in LA is proof perfect that Angelenos will fall for any gimmick. I was anxious to try Five Guys when I had heard they were coming to Southern California as an alternative to the other burger chain staples we have. I'm a chef, and I love burgers. My pulse quickened as I pulled into the parking lot and spotted the line out the door. It was overcast and damp out and I wanted to have a fresh hot meal inside. Upon stepping in, You can hear the twang of classic rock playing faintly under the murmur of voices. This place gets packed! I look around, the tables are messy and there are peanut shells everywhere on the floor. The line moves fast, though you would think that they would have more staff on hand during the lunch rush to take and crank out people's orders. There was one girl working the register. The manager was close by and jumped in right as we came to the front of the line. None of the workers smiled or remotely looked happy to be there. (uh-oh.) My boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger and I, a little bacon cheeseburger all the way with jalapenos and A-1. We also ordered 2 other burgers for his folks who were with us. We ordered one large Cajun fry and one regular. With two large drinks, our total came to approximately 40 dollars and some change. I was astounded at the price! Never the less, I assumed that the meal would be great at those prices. After waiting for about 20 minutes or so our order was called and my beau went up to receive the order. he stood by for 10 minutes waiting watching our burgers sitting on the counter getting cold before they decided to wrap them. Of course they were cold by the time we sat down to eat. The taste was sub-par at best and with the fact that we were served cold made it even worse. The American cheese tastes like nothing. The bun was extremely low quality, the type of wonder-bread style sesame bun that falls apart when you unwrap your burger. The fries were soggy, though the regulars tasted good (probably due to the fact that they use peanut oil for frying). The Cajun fries were not very good at all; they put too much seasoning on it and it is strong. I think it may be old bay, or something of the sort. The jalapenos were not hot at all and the slices were huge. I'm thinking that they use genetically altered chiles. The tomatoes on my burger were grainy and old. My bacon was crunchy and salty as expected. Their presentation was not impressive; drippy, messy burgers, oil-stained plain brown bags, burgers wrapped in flimsy tin foil, fries served in an unmarked cup. Serving fries in a cup is not a good idea. Everything great about fried potatoes is in the crisp. The cup creates steam and that spells no crisp. They also have a big box of free peanuts on the front counter with the scoop buried in there and brown paper trays scattered about... not very sanitary. Perhaps they are attempting at giving out a "Divey corner burger-joint" vibe? If this is their attempt at whimsy or irony it is quite unsuccessful and they just come off as dirty. We took two bites out of our burgers and immediately went up to the manager to let him know that the burgers were ice cold. He stared at us blankly for a moment and proceeded to refund our money. He gave an apology that sounded resigned. I honestly feel like he didn't really care. He offered to make us new burgers but My boyfriend and I both felt like we were over it. The burgers weren't that great anyway. All in all I am not impressed with Five Guys. I won't be back again. read more

I love this place. I'm not a red meat kinda girl, but I can polish off one of these two patty burgers fairly quickly. They are higher priced than In N Out, but it's a helluva lotta more meat also. Toppings are yummy, the bacon is nice and crispy, since floppy bacon is gross. The fries are plentiful and fried in peanut oil, and malt vinegar is available for those that like it (ME!) There are peanuts galore to snack on while you wait for your food, and drinks are refillable. Coke products and Gold Peak teas, yay! This is the only burger I ever crave, and I was ever so happy when the Northridge location opened. As for the foil wrapping...I can get these and bring them home and they are still hot when I arrive. OK, I may be biased since I'm originally from Virginia where these guys started out. If that's true or not, I like Five Guys better than In N Out. Five Guys actually cooks their burgers, every burger I've had at In N Out is still mooing, despite my desperate pleas to actually get it well done. Never happens. Five Guys gets their burger done. And you can get pretty much anything in the damn world on top this burger, copious amounts of whatever you want. And hot dogs, too! The dogs are delicious. Not enough hot dogs being served out there in my opinion,. Another thing I like more about Five Guys than In N Out are the fries. The fries here are crisp and tasty and have a little seasoning on them that really adds to the flavor. They also don't turn into little stick of ice in 30 seconds like In N Out's fries. (Seriously, am I the only one who notices INO's fries get cold really, really quickly?) The only negatives I would have here is the place is loud, very loud. But hey, it's not a gourmet restaurant with some dude in the corner playing piano, it's a burger place. Little loud, no big. Bottom line, these are really great burgers done the way you want them. They also let you choose your free toppings which allows for a different burger on every visit if you wish for one. I had the double cheese burger with lettuce, mayo, a1 steak sauce, grilled onions & pickles. It was delicious and filling. You will pay more than In n out, but it is worth it due to portion size. Today was my first time at Five Guys. What impressed me the most about this place was the friendliness of the employees and their customer service. I placed my order with ease and wasn't pressured to add to my order like other places do. Because my best friend in Rhode Island told me that Five Guys was THE best place to get a burger, I told her one day I would try it. So today was it. I had a little burger, little fries and a little drink. For a "little" burger and fries, they were HUGE! Imagine if I had ordered the regular sizes! Friendly staff and delicious food! The strawberry shake was especially good. I'm not sure I've been to a burger joint that put actual fruit in their shakes before. The staff were welcoming, and went out of their way to make the food just right. An older gentleman who ordered before me asked for crispy fries, and they made them! Traditionally Five Guys fries are very soft, but they were happy to oblige. I got the same! I got a veggie burger, and while Five Guys isn't exactly a vegetarian destination, everything was fresh, so it was totally worth the trip. Of course, the shake was the highlight. I tried Five Guys for the first time at the new Northridge location last Friday. Chick Fila opened up the same night across the street. Frankly, if my friends had not asked me to join them I would have left after looking at the menu. $5.99 for a cheeseburger?! Seriously? It isn't a restaurant (ie, Islands or TGIFridays). Like it or not, Five Guys is competing with In-n-Out. The nearest In-n-Out IS 100 FEET AWAY!! The burger was okay, but nothing special and not worth $5.99. As noted in other posts, the music was too loud. Funny enough, the atmosphere (the music) was the big difference for me between In-n-Out and Five Guys. Sadly, it was just not special or different enough from the competition for me to consider paying $5.99 ever again. Additionally, the parking at the Northridge location is unbelievable inadequate. I hate to sound like a parrot and repeat what everyone has already written, but they're right. It's not worth the cost. Five Guys charges $6 for a double cheeseburger and $3 for fries. Add a drink and tax, the total was $12.04 for one person. Sure, the drink has unlimited refills, the burger condiments/toppings are customized, and a "regular" fries would be an extra extra large at McDonald's, but that's pretty steep for fast food. Also keep in mind, I've paid twice as much for a burger and doled out compliments, not complaints. It also doesn't help that they decorate the restaurant with their accolades with claims like "Best Fries". The fries were soggy and missing a crisp fried crust. (Perhaps they have a quality control problem with the California franchises?) The burger wasn't all bad. The meat wasn't tough or chewy. It reminded me of a county fair burger - largely because I ordered it with grilled onions. Like a county fair, there was food all over the floors. For fast food this place is almost as good as In & Out Burger. They are a bit more expensive than the deals at In & Out, but if your the kind of person that likes a bit bigger meat burger then this you will like probably a bit more for the extra price. The burger meat taste is ok. Too grassy tasting for myself after a couple of times of coming here. They also put the spatula on top of the burger which does take out a lot of the juices in the burger in my opinion. The prices on drinks and malts are a bit much. Their fries here are the best. You can get a bag to go and they stay warm unlike In & Out fries that get cold quickly. I tried the spicy fries and the regular and the spicy was not to my liking. As far as I'm concerned, I like In & Out for fast food burgers more than Five Guys. Especially for the price. I'll visit Five Guys maybe once or twice a year and get some of their great fries but otherwise I'll mostly stick to In & Out. Plus I don't like grass feed beef and the thicker the meat the more grass flavor in the burger so I like In & Out's smaller burger meat instead and just stay with their Double Double deal. After ordering a regular sized burger, fries and a malt here, it's almost about $15 easily and for one person that is too much money imo. The french fries are great here though. A small order of fries is already a huge generous portion so that is way cool and worth the value alone to come here to get a bag of their fries. The large fries I couldn't even think of finishing in one setting. I love that their fries stay hot and warm here for a long drive home if need be. read more

Been hearing the buzz for awhile now, So I finally tried five guys. Definitely one of the best fast food chain burgers I've tried. It kinda rivals In N out. They are both really good, but different at the same time. My favorite part about five guys is actually the Cajun Fries. The seasoning is really unique, and tastes great. Highly recommend them! They give a huge amount though, so order one to share. We were left with about two orders of fries at the end of our meal haha. Overall, good burger, great fries. They have a lot of toppings so you can personalize your own burger. The reason why I give them four start is because their service is the best. I told the cashier I wanted everything on my burger - except mushroom. He somehow though I said JUST mushroom so when I got my burger I wasn't really happy about that. The workers made me a new burger without any question, and I got to keep the burger that was not made correctly.
