There are a few things I just really love in a restaurant, and Five Guys seems to suit my taste in a lot of ways. First of all, you can see the kitchen perfectly and the (awesome) health inspection reports are clearly displayed. This makes me feel so much more comfortable eating the food...when I know exactly how it has been handled. Second, the service is extremely reliable. Yes I know it is only counter service, but I've never once had anyone be rude or impatient with me here...even when I'm constantly changing my mind about the toppings I want on my little cheeseburger. Third, I love that you pick your toppings exactly, that way there are no surprises. Sure, in fancy sit-down restaurants I'll let the chef do his/her magic on my place. When I'm tired as hell or hungover and looking for a greasy fix, I want to know exactly what's going in my food. Fourth, and I know I may be alone on this, I like that you order your burger separate from the fries. I am not a big fries fan, and it seems like every burger has obligatory fries sitting right beside it. I think it's nice to be able to order them separately, or in my case, not usually order them at all. The only reason this place doesn't reach 5 stars in my book is the amount of grease. First of all if you're going to eat at five guys, you better not bring five dollars! If you bring in $20 you can pretty much order anything you want. Now a lot of people aren't taking responsibility for the fact that they might choose messed up combinations with their burgers. At In-N-Out they don't give you as much variety so their burgers are guaranteed to be good. If you order some random stuff and complain that the burger wasn't good then that is on you. Go regular with the fries and eat them with ketchup. Is this place expensive? I don't think it's expensive for the quality of the burger you get and for how good the damn food is. After all the hype I decided to give this spot a try. I ordered the Cheeseburger since bacon was a dollar to add on for some crazy reason. This place does not have combo meals so everything must be paid for separately but hey no worries free nuts. My burger took forever and was wrapped up in tinfoil when I got it. I live in the state of California, where burger snobs (or connoisseur, if you will), seems to be ever present and ever obnoxious. There was nothing special about this joint. Their menu didn't offer veggie patties so I went for their Veggie sandwich. I get to choose any toppings I want, but that didn't make it taste any better. My sandwich was poorly assembled and whatever fixings I had in the sandwich kept falling out. Their Five Guys Fries wasn't anything spectacular, however it had generous portions. We ordered and got 2 burgers, one order fries and 2 drinks..$22.00 WTH. I only wanted lettuce, BBQ sauce and pickles on my burgers but also got tomatoes, is it that hard peeps? The burgers were very messy and hard to eat, the sodas were flat but the french fries are decent. I didn't like how hard it was to eat and they put everything in a bag, even when it was for to eat there. For how much you spend it really isn't worth all this mess. The burgers are great. The fries are a step above - most places the fries go bad before I finish them or they just get too greasy to swallow down. My 4yr old daughter had a plain hot dog, which she nearly ate the whole thing except for a couple of bites. Let me tell you, she is a VERY picky eater. OK after giving this place a dozen or so tries it's official--THIS PLACE SUCKS. Even though this place only has like 6 menu items, they somehow cannot EVER get the orders right. However, when they hand you someone else's food order, they act like you're being extremely difficult by even mentioning that you actually ordered something else. This has happened to me 7-8 times at this location but the last time I went it really got stupid. Called in my order and when I went to pay the total was way different then what it should have been. Since they ALWAYS get the order wrong I said "Are you sure that's my order?" I was assured by the employee that it was. "That total is a lot different then it should be, am I paying for something else?" No, said the employee, it's exactly what you ordered. So I ran my credit card and THEN they immediately told me that I had just paid for someone else's food, yet again. But, of course, they could not give me a refund for the next 20-30 minutes because the manager was "on break." Waited for 25 minutes and when the manager "Sonny" returned, he thought it was absolutely freakin' hilarious that I had asked the employee several times before I paid if the total was right and to please confirm my order and they ignored all that until I was charged for someone else's food and subsequently had to stand there for 25 minutes waiting. Such a great experience here! First of all, I never really go to this location because I don't want to fight for parking, but my family and I were craving Five Guys and it was close to us. Luckily, parking wasn't that bad on a Sunday! It was my mom's first time there and I didn't really know how to explain the menu to her, so I asked the gentleman at the register to help explain it to her. Instead of just pointing at the menu like others usually do, the gentleman who helped us actually broke down the menu for my mom and was so nice! We believe his name is "Saurabh J" (which was on our receipt. The other two people were just as awesome because we got our food in a timely manner! The one gentleman in the black long sleeve shirt was cooking fast, as well as the lady working the other stations! "Saurabh J" was even helping wrapping orders and the fluidity of their work flow made what seemed to be everyone satisfied!! Not to mention the food was delicious!! Just thought it was a bit overpriced for what it was. This time I tried the small burger and ate at the restaurant. I was kind of bummed when I was reminded they don't carry Thousand Island OR Ranch. Both are a MUST for me when it comes to a good burger and fries. But, one of the employees made me some Thousand Island. I was like, "WOW! I love this chick!" In and Out or Five Guys? So finally after so many mixed reviews about the taste and quality of five guys' burgers and fries I decided to go and check for myself. I won't take anything away from the store it was clean and the cashier was friendly and seemed that he was on top of his game calling out what is coming up so that the overall product which is cooked to order doesn't take forever. I ordered a Bacon Cheese burger with mayo, pickles, and FRESH jalapenos. With that I got a large soda and a small order of fries and the price tag; over $13 dollars. Now my Burger was good after , fresh ingredients always make for a better product and the fries that the serve are better than In and Out just across the way but! Five guys need to salt the fries a little less and in the end I still prefer the Double Double. I think that the Burger's across the way are better , the price is more customer friendly and the quality is one that I have come to count on since I became and in and out-ite oh so long ago. My order: Little Cheeseburger, "all the way/everything" + jalapenos = $4.39 Cajun Fries, sized regular = $2.99 Total: $8.03 You can get mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. The thing about getting it "all the way" is that everything blends in together and I can't really taste each individual topping, esp. on the 'little' or one-patty burger versus the 2-patty. The jalapenos were really hot, especially with the regular seasoned cajun fries (with a mild kick), which was more than enough for 3 people snacking. I usually love spicy foods, but I decided not to eat 2 out of the 4 jalapenos I got. I didn't specify how to cook my meat, but by default they go with well done if you don't ask for "juicy," the other option. Fries are cooked in 100% peanut oil. Speaking of peanuts, they're free on the side after you order and you can throw the shells on the ground. It's not a circus, but I definitely saw/stepped on my share. There was a lot of seating and my order came out pretty quickly, as in I wasn't waiting longer than 10 minutes. Drinks were $2.09 for a regular soft drink and there were free refills, but I didn't bother. Overall, the meat is tastes fresher than other fast food joint burgers and you have a variety of toppings to choose from. Although it is a bit pricier than other burgers, they do give you more options. Love this place! The beef is so tasty, like a backyard BBQ burger. I ordered my little cheeseburger (1 pattie) with jalapeños, but it had green peppers. I had this once in Florida and really liked it so I was looking forward to visiting the new location in Northridge once it opened. These burgers are good but not better than In n Out. The fries might be better and it's cool that you get to pick a few toppings like grilled mushrooms, jalapenos, and BBQ or A1 Sauce but there's something about In n Out that's better and doesn't seem as easy to duplicate. I'm sure we'll be back at Five Guys again in the future but as my wife put it, "we can probably make the same burger at home but there's no way we could duplicate the burger we get at In N Out." I visited about 10 times and each time they greet me as soon as I step inside Five Guys then get greeted again at the cash register which I like. They usually try to make a conversation when its not buzy which I like. The parking is easy they are right in front of the In And Out. They make their burgers from scratch and I also recommend getting the Cajun Fries its really good with ketchup. I highly recommend at least trying the burger at least. read more
