Atmosphere: there are some high chairs as well as low chairs and you can sit anywhere. It wasn't that noisy since everyone was busy eating. Service: The girl at the register was nice to be patient enough to explain to us the additional toppings you could add to the burger. The food was done quickly! Food: It was so delicious! I never met a cheeseburger I didn't like. Of all the wonderful foods in this world, I think cheeseburgers are one thing I could probably eat everyday. (In a world with no calories, that is.) However, not all cheeseburgers are created equal. I took a recent survey amongst some of my Facebook friends and was surprised to find a pretty even division between In-N-Out and Five Guys lovers. I thought it might be interesting to compare them and see which cheeseburger reigns supreme. I've graded the burgers according to five categories: meat, bun, toppings, sauce, and overall taste. I think that pretty much covers the important stuff. Here we go... Meat Meat is probably the most important component to any good burger. It gives the burger its uniqueness and character. Above all things, quality and care for the hamburger patty are the two most important components to having a delicious cheeseburger. In-N-Out and Five Guys both use hamburger that is never frozen and is delivered fresh a couple times a week, so you know the meat is fresh and you can taste the quality. Both grill their meat to a perfect "medium well" on a flat surface, which creates a nice crust on the outside. The big difference here is the amount of meat on the burger. Five Guys has a considerably larger patty, which, in my opinion, gives them an edge. Winner: Five Guys Bun If the meat is the most important component, then the bun is the second most important -- it serves as the foundation. Five Guys has fresh sesame seed buns that hold up pretty well to the large amount of toppings that can sometimes be found on a typical Five Guys burger. As long as you eat the burger pretty quickly, you shouldn't have too big of a mess. However, I've noticed that the bun begins to disintegrate if you wait too long before eating, and nobody likes a soggy bun. In-N-Out's buns are soft, chewy, and in perfect ratio to the rest of the burger. They also hold up really well. They put a light toast on the bun with butter, which gives them extra richness in flavor and slightly crispy texture. You can't beat In-N-Out's buns. Winner: In-N-Out Toppings In-N-Out has a very limited number of options when it comes to toppings. They are your typical old-school burger joint. "Burger purists," you might call them: no bacon, no guacamole, and no flashiness -- just pure burger deliciousness. Five Guys, on the other hand, has a long list of toppings for their burgers -- everything from grilled mushrooms and onions to raw jalapeños. This was an easy decision: more toppings equal a win for Five Guys. Staff unorganized. No one taking orders at register. Staff overwhelmed with online and orders. Staff member gave one man two orders, then told people waiting that their order was lost. Put at end of line. Had ordered long before me and was still there when I asked for my money back. Ordered two large orders of fries, after nearly 1/2 hour was told I was still at end of queue. I am just not a big fan of Five Guys after numerous tries. You can see that they try to mimic the feel of In-n-Out with a dash of Carl's Jr. And throw into that the gimmick of free peanuts, which just leaves a big mess everywhere because customers can be asses. The burger is good but doesn't stand out. The fries are totally gross--they are mushy and have the consistency of steamed rather than fried potatoes. And it is NOT a bargain for what you get. $13.69 for a double burger, fries and a drink. At this particular location, I was impressed by the staff. They were so hard-working and professional, from answering customer questions, to taking the order, and the regimented process for making the food. So, my visit here was extremely...weird and oddly annoying. I stopped by yesterday and literally every single thing I ordered made the cashier confused; my order was NOT complicated whatsoever! I ordered a veggie sandwich and asked for no bell pepper and the man taking my order looked at me like I was crazy, going, "Um...we don't put bell pepper on there." I apologized, saying, "Oh, I'm sorry. It's just that at the 5 Guys I usually go to, they put it on there." He turned around to ask the cook what they put on the veggie sandwich and sure enough, the cook listed everything, including bell pepper. Not a big deal, let's move on --I ordered a regular order of fries in the regular size and he gives me a look like O__O I clarified: "A regular fry, not the cajun please, and in a regular sized cup." He finally understood what I meant and then I was able to order a little cajun fry. Again, he was lost. Fortunately, I eventually was able to pay for the food and of course he didn't give me my drink so I sounded even more needy by having to ask for more things. I received my food and low and behold, there was no cheese on my veggie burger like I'd asked. My first experience here was way better than this one; just to place an order with this particular associate was aggravating because he looked at me like I was speaking Latin. Never been to Five Guys before and after my visit I won't go back. Everything was great when ordering the food, ordered a bacon cheeseburger and Cajun fries, had I know it was a double cheeseburger, I probably would have order the little cheeseburger. But that's all a moot point now. While we just finishing up something ran by our feet and booked it to the other side of the restaurant and my daughter said omg it's a mouse, the mouse was in the corner trying to jump up the wall. The Manager asked what was going on and we told him there is a mouse, then he and my son in law went to catch it, the damn thing ran towards me again, then the manager and my son in law trapped the mouse, and the manager grabbed the mouse in one of the towels they use and took the mouse to the back of the store were the food is cooked SOOOOOOO FREAKING GROSS!!! I really liked the cheeseburger that I had but the french fries were very greasy, which is what I absolutely hate. I don't see a reason for having greasy food. I would like to state upfront that Five Guys was my favorite restaurant. I've been a regular customer since I first discovered them in 2011. This review is for the location at 10060 Alabama Street in Redlands California. A few weeks ago my husband and I went in to have dinner They were not busy. We took our usual table by the soft drinks dispenser. We were happily eating ( the food, as usual, was great.) when a man came out of the restrooms and sat at the table behind us. He was disheveled, filthy, and stunk. He also had a wild, crazed look about him. He was obviously on drugs and high as a kite. In short succession he got up repeatedly and roamed around the restaurant multiple times. He plowed through the garbage can, carried on a loud conversation with no one since he was alone, all the while touching everything he could find, including the napkins, the peanuts, all the buttons on the soft drink machine etc. I was shocked that no employee addressed this. This man then hit me in the back while I sat at the table eating. I immediately went up and asked for the manager to remove him. She informed me he was a regular, yes, you read that right, and had paid for his meal and she wasn't going to do that. I informed her of his antics and that he had struck me in the back. I also told her this was no longer a safe situation, it had ruined our meal and she needed to address this right now.. She went over and whispered in his ear and he left. Only to turn around and come right back in. We left immediately. When I spoke with Five Guys corporate i was in for an even bigger shock. They couldn't have cared any less. In fact, the gentleman I spoke with had the same apathetic attitude as the restaurant manager. Needless to say, we won't ever be going back. I am posting this as a warning to others. Just a quick update. I have been back twice to see if each cook, cooked a burger a bit different. Same quality. Nothing special. So, the food review does not change. However, I was told the GENERAL MANAGER JASON NANCE. Is actually following company protocol, by blasting the music so....LOUD. You have to yell your order to the cashier and everyone in the place has to yell while sitting to eat. I asked or should I say yelled to have the music turned down. The young lady indicated that they were not allowed to do so....per company policy. She indicated a loud ROCK AND ROLL music should be played at all times while the business is open to the public. Other personnel chimed into the conversation and thought that the loud music was totally stupid and uncalled for and they too had to yell at one another to get their jobs done. Burgers are good. Never disappointed with the burger. I really dislike how they dump the fries in the bag and put an empty cup on top as if they had fallen out. My husband and I decided to try a new burger place and we've seen Five Guys when driving around and also have heard ppl rave about it. We came in for lunch and the girl up front was very helpful since we've never been there before. My husband and I both ordered the hamburger, drinks and large fries. The hamburgers were full of flavor and very juicy. They were also huge. Next time, I will order the little hamburger. The fries were piping hot and also good. We ordered the large fries not realizing that the large would've fed 4 ppl. They also do not skimp of the portion. The fries came in cup and when they bagged it, they also threw in enough fries to fill another large cup. I loved it!!!
