They have lots of customization options for burgers and hot dogs which are a plus and their fries are definitely well-portioned. I have no idea why this place is called Five Guys, but its my favorite burger place. Like fo realz. I was recommended this place by a homie of mine who said it was like In-N-Out. I've never had their burgers, but Five Guys is pretty delish. After eating Five Guys, you will never want to eat McDonald's again. It's kind of like, the Chipotle of hamburger places- some good quality stuff, done simply with care. I usually go to Five Guys with my boy Jacob Hakim (whom I miss dearly, ). The first time it was before our AP Bio final. Needless to say, we both got 100s. Heck yeah. The second time was during the summer before we parted ways. Quite the poignant experience. But this ain't eHarmony.com, so here's da deal with the food. They only got a couple of items on the menu (burgers, fries, and i think maybe a hot dog). But, I think everything tastes good. There's two kinds of burgers -the little and the regular. Basically, the little is just one patty, the regular is two patties. Of course, there's bacon and cheese that can be added extra, but the really great thing is that they let you put all the other toppings for free -mushrooms, onion, grilled onion, tomato, lettuce, relish, pickle, jalapeno, hot sauce, mayo, mustard, ketchup, and probably one more thing I forgot. I always get shrooms with mayo, hot sauce, and veggies. But even if you didn't get extra stuff, it would still be a hell of a burger. Oh and they got really good fries -thick with real potato. I'd recommend getting the large. And cajun. It's a lot of fries too, cuz they add extra scoops into the bag after they fill up the fry container thing. Heck yeah. Jacob and I were like, Oh man, this is WAYY TOO MUCH CAJUN. But we ate it anyway. So they take a while to cook your food, cuz its fresh and all (you can see them cook it on the griddle) but when you get it you will jizz your pants. Like, you might need to wear protection while you eat this. I mean a napkin. Cuz it will get everywhere. Oh man the burger comes wrapped in like this silvery pouch that makes the bun all steamy and nice, the beef is juicy and seasoned will with good melted cheese, the bacon adds a nice touch, and the toppings are like perfect and architecturally sound -it's not a mess from the get-go. But it does get messy, cuz your hands will be dripping with condiments and burger juice, and covered with cajun. OH MAN I LOVE DAT CAJUN. The restaurant is also really clean, offers free peanuts, and has pretty good service and prices. But i mean, I would gladly pay double for what I got here. Five Guys Burgers and Fries is fairly new to the area. I never went out of my way to go here, but one afternoon, I decided to give it a try. I have to say I did not regret the decision at all. This place rocked my burger satisfaction meter! The menu is simple. Burgers, Fries and Dogs. I went with a bacon cheeseburger. The fixings are free and plentiful and if you want to add them all, then you can do so. Today, I added mustard, mayo, A-1, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes and grilled jalapenos. A side of fries completed the meal and I started my ride on the yummy burger train express. The flavor of the burger was amazing. The patty was not too greasy and cooked to perfection. Beef flavor came through and the bacon added a nice crispy crunch that was only augmented by the fresh onions and lettuce. If I had a third hand, I would have patted myself on the back for my choice of toppings. Now for the fries...I think there should be a Presidential decree that requires all burger joints to fry their spuds in Peanut oil. These fries were cooked to a perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside Utopia. They were not too salty and the portions were over the top generous. I gave Five Guys four stars because I reserve that 5th star for places that give me a consistent experience. Next time I come here, I hope it is as good as the first time. Outstanding food and generous portions. With teenagers in the house, they want plenty and won't be satisfied until they're full. It's uncomplicated and tasty: burgers, fries and soft drinks. That's it. The fries are fresh and I like the fact that I can load up a burger with up to 20 toppings WITHOUT getting charged extra! And their prices are reasonable. My wife would prefer that they offer chicken fingers for my daughter who doesn't like hamburgers, but that defeats the purpose of going to Five Guys. 3 Guys & 1/2 the fries. I've traveled the country and always find comfort in eating at 5 Guys, but this store was a disgrace to the company. We drove 20 minutes just to meet my 5 Guys cravings and arrived to an unwelcoming 3 man crew, who were giving their undivided attention to a young girl who appeared to be a close friend of the employees. After waiting an EXTENSIVE amount of time because the crew was too busy talking to the female... Our hamburgers were normal, but the fries were overly greasy & undercooked. The serving of fries was underwhelming compared to the usual company standard. After this experience I won't be returning the locations in San Antonio. Their fries! What can you say. Best ever! We made a mistake at our first visit in DC to order their regular burger--It's HUGE and couldn't finish it. The Jr. is the size of most other's regular burger. They have free peanuts while you are waiting, but be warned not to fill up on them because the portions are more than generous. The burger is more "home made" than most other chains and it fills or extends over the bun, unlike In N Out. We've always had ours done perfectly. They do it well and consistently. read more

What's not to like here? Everything is made fresh daily. The burgers are perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and flavorful. Fries are freshly cut from raw U.S. potatoes with the name of the farm noted on the chalkboard each day. Staff are friendly and happy. The place is super clean. Free peanuts! The tri-state (VA, DC, MD) staple has made it's way to Texas and like any successful chain it holds it's ground. I thought maybe Texans might see Five Guys as a threat to local burger businesses but I found the restaurant packed. It goes to show you when you have a good product and business model that delivers on it's promise, it will be successful. Anyhow, the burgers were fresh and delicious: the bread spongy, the meat fresh and beefy, and the sides were fresh and crispy. Also, the fries, cooked in peanut oil, were still hot and amazing. Also, i love the salty peanuts you get to eat while waiting. I can't argue with the place. After a long day at work, the last thing I want to do is have to cook my dinner...lol. Five Guys is not too shabby but not the best burger I've eaten either. Don't be deceived by their small appearance, I got pretty full on just the burger alone...no fries. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with mustard and pickles only for my husband and I to go. The burger itself was very juicy, but I think it could use more seasoning. The bacon helped out a bit since it was flavorful and crunchy. Crunchy bacon is a good thing! Customer service was great and that's always a plus for me. They also sell hotdogs and sandwiches which I may try the next time I stop in. Prices are teeny bit steep in my opinion. Decent burger, great fries. The food is well prepared. It's a bit pricy (almost $11 for a small burger, fries, and a drink!!). They make it up a bit with the portion size, the "little burger" is the size I normally get, and the smaller fries overflows the cup they serve them in. I usually fill up on just the fries that fall out of the cup into the bag! The room is a little noisy as it fills up, the walls are partially tiled and all those reflective surfaces really makes the crowd noise echo all over the place. It crosses the line from bustling to downright noisy. I have been a regular here but not any longer. I understand it is probably a busy Saturday but I have been busy as well as this is my lunch break from work. First not a single clean table in the house. Not just dirty. But filthy tables you would not want to clean yourself. I count maybe 4 or more working behind the counter and no one has even thought of cleaning the tables or floors. I get my order and dive into my favorite part, the steaming hot fires. I end up pulling the longest hair I have ever seen from my bag of fires. The trash is so over flowing I can't even dump my disgusting lunch in the trash. All this from a place that sold me a $15 burger and fry meal. Oh, forgot to mention almost all the drink selections on their state of the art soda fountain are out. I grew up in Arlington, VA, home of the Five Guy's chain...but I left town before they made their debut in 1986. I didn't get to have my first five guys' burger until 2010 in Sunny California and so when I heard they had made their way to San Antonio, TX I was quick to see if they lived up to the tradition. To start, the regular burger is 1/2 pound double patty burger: with cheese, or bacon BBQ with shrooms or just the burger. It comes with "the works" which is mayo, mustard, ketchup, relish, onion, lettuce, pickle, tomato, green pepper, jalapeño, grilled onion, and grilled mushrooms and your choice of sauces including BBQ, hot sauce and A1. A 'little' burger is the 1/3 pound single patty version. I went for the little burger. It is a joyful, juicy mess. The meat is cooked medium, and the bun barely holds all the flavor and goodness that is the meat and the toppings. I don't think you can eat this without some serious drippage. The fries come in plain and 'cajun' which means spices that have some heat. One order of fries was enough for two, or one hungry teen (we had several with us). They have hot dogs and other stuff too, but I have specialized specifically in the burgers for my visits as they fill a need in my culinary life. They are a chain, but they make all their own stuff: it is way good. And worth the time. San Antonio is filled with burger chains and shops, each with their loyal following, I think the five guys will fit right in and make a dent in the food world there. Just a note, they use peanut oil so for the few that have allergies, this is a stop. They also give free peanuts to eat while you wait for your burgers. But I'd have to say In-n-out takes the crown. This is not to say anything bad about Five Guys, its right up there too! Like Fattboys all of the toppings are free. However when you add in fries ( huge portion that I didn't finish) and a drink the bill swells to $12. The fries are nice and brown but cut too thick to be crispy. All in all the food is good just a bit pricey. read more

The obvious problem here is price. From the burger to the fries you are overpaying - simple as that. Maybe that's why we were the only people there between 5:30 and 6:15 pm. There's nothing special about the buns, the condiments or the meat. The burger was decent but the overall experience was very poor. After we ordered, we sat down and all I could smell was cigarette smoke. Turns out the back door was open and an employee was blowing smoke into the restaurant. We won't be going back. I JUST went to this location for the first time with my husband and my son after a long day at the lake and we all really wanted a good burger. This place delivered what we wanted. This was at least tied with the best burger I have ever had, which is my favorite Fort Worth area OC Burger. The seasoning is so good, the meat was juicy, the toppings compliment everything so well- it was perfect. I have never seen someone complain about being given too many fries before, because while there were too many for us to eat, I Loved it, because you KNOW you are not going to leave hungry. Really polite staff, awesome daily choices for specials and definitely worth the money, since it's not fast food, but a high end burger joint. They are super concerned about nut allergies and don't want anything traced back to them. I think there is something secretly wrong with their nuts for that very reason. Alas, I ate them anyway. We have been going to FG for a while now, since living in VA. My husband loves a good burger and this is his joint for that. I, on the other hand do not eat burgers. Yes, I know. When we visit I will have a hot dog or a veggie sandwich which is my preference. I love it! Fries are okay and not crispy. A lot of fries on a regular order and we always share and have leftovers.
