Took a couple of students here at their suggestions. We took photos of an athletic event and since it took forever, I owed them food. This was my first time to a Five guys. Friendly hello when we entered. The front is a little odd...bags of charcoal? wood? that make up the aisle to the register. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with everything, but when my student ordered, he just added lettuce, tomato, and bar-b-q sauce. I didn't know that was an option so I added it too. I also ordered large fries and a drink. I like the soda machines...so many choices! "Mr. H, we should get one of these for the room!" Me: Can you imagine? Then we could sell sodas during lunch and then get into trouble! The wait wasn't too long. My burger was great! Though next time I'll minus the mustard and ketchup. Fries were nice and crispy! Like the skin on! And they give you a lot! I'll agree with some on here, it is a little pricier that others but everything was tasty! No healthy or decent tasting meatless options. Over the years I have tried to order things from their menu with no meat because their burgers and fries are overly greasy. Got tired of my hands glistening with shiny grease after eating here. This last time, I looked at ordering a Hot dog ( lettuce wrapped ). I ordered it "All the Way", but what I didn't know was that they included a huge load of mayo on it. If I was in the Five Guys Belgium or Tijuana locations, I get it.. Here in the USA, mayo is not an acceptable hot dog condiment. Then again, they also put Ketchup on their hot dogs here too. So they basically just put burger topping on their hot dog. I had to scrape most of the topping offs because of that mayo. Plain Hot Dog was okay, but Costco is cheaper and better tasting. I've been bringing my family here for a few years now. This time I'm sadly disappointed with the amount of fries we received. We order 2 large fries every time. This time we were given 2 of the large cup sizes and that was it.they usually add several scoops per large on top of the cup. A large fry costs 6.86. For that amount I can at least get 1-2 bags of organic potatoes to make my own fries several times over. which is what I did tonight. There was enough fries for 2 people, not 4 as usual. Thankfully I have an air fryer and I am now making more fries so we can all have fries. This is just a bummer. I wish I was watching them as I would have said something before leaving. Never have I had an unsatisfactory experience with Five Guys until this one I only ordered 3 items: regular burger little burger, and regular fries. The regular burger was correct but the other didn't have any of the toppings that was ordered when it was clearly on the receipt and the fries the one thing that you can always look forward to from Five Guys that extra scoop that they top off the bag with is factored into the price of the fries and you can Normally split a regular between 2 people but I didn't get that I got the cup that they come in and the cup was barely full. I literally haven't eaten at a Five Guys in over 10 years. My trip last night painfully reminded me why. As you walk in, the decor is nothing but # 1 reviews from various publications throughout the US. Not sure where they are getting all these "number 1" reviews from, but my horrendous service and burger is the "number 1" reason I'll NEVER go back to five guys. Got to the counter and the girl taking my order didn't smile, or ask how we were doing. She just stood there and waited for us to order. Ah well, wasn't there to find a wife, just wanted to eat. So I ordered a "little hamburger" (seriously, that's what it's called on their menu) with ketchup, onion, and lettuce, for almost $7.00. Added a small fountain drink for almost $3.00. Ordered it for dine in and apparently everything still comes in a brown paper bag. Got my "little hamburger" and was shocked when that's exactly what it was. Here I was assuming it was just a smaller version of their regular sized hamburger. Nope, not even close. Absolutely the worst burger for the price I've ever had. Dry patty, hardly any onions, or ketchup. Plenty of lettuce, so I guess I had that going for me. I don't know who the "writers" are of all the stellar reviews plastered all over their walls. But they have clearly never eaten at this location!! Maybe they'll post my yelp review in their business?? I won't hold my breath. Not long ago, Men's Health Magazine included Five Guys Burgers and Fries in their lists of "Worst Burgers" and "Worst Foods in America." Men's Health Magazine can bite me. The publication's beef (sorry, it couldn't be helped) was that both Five Guys' Bacon Cheeseburgers and their French Fries are too large, and that they contain too many calories. In their comments, Men's Health glibly disparaged these foods while making no representations regarding either item's quality or taste, all while neglecting to speak to the excellence of the company itself. So, while Men's Health Magazine is biting me, let me tell you how their snarky, we-know-what's-good-for-you attitude did a disservice to Five Guys. I've been eating at Five Guys since they opened down the street from my girlfriend's house in Arlington, VA, in 1986. The menu has changed only slightly since then, and at whichever Five Guys I've patronized, whether in the DC area or here, in our beloved Hillcrest, I've found the food they serve to be consistent; always fresh, always gratifying, always an excellent version of what it is. Like every Five Guys I've visited, the University Avenue store is generally clean and well-stocked, and the efficiency of its service fluctuates with the length of the lines out front, just as it should. More important, every Five Guys meal I've eaten has left me feeling that I gained value for the money I spent. First time here. Counter service was very friendly, helpful, patient. Made it easy. The place is clean. Some parking, handicapped as well. I'm not sure what the hype is for these burgers. We had cheeseburgers and tiny fries. Fries are rough cut with skins on which is rustic and tasty. The burger was prepared well, with everything on it, neat and tidy. A messy burger to eat if your newbies like us. The meat was pebbly and kinda bland. Fries were not so crisp but abundant and overflowed into the bag. I wasn't expecting the price. Wow. Not cheap. Five Guys, how I love you. I don't go to Five Guys often, and I'm not sure why... Aside from the fact that the closest one is about 10 miles away. The only other one I've been to is the one on North Island base. I forget there's a Hillcrest location because it's in a small area, but the Five Guys itself is huge! I don't know if they do this at all Five Guys, but they offer free peanuts that you pour yourself as you wait for your food. The food is pretty pricey, especially for a damn burger, but it's a damn good burger. Every single element about it is perfection. I don't do vegetables when it comes to burgers, so I taste that delicious bacon and BBQ sauce to the extreme when I eat. Their bacon is very crispy, and I do not let a single piece go to waste. My boyfriend wanted to order the Five Guys fries as opposed to the popular Cajun fries. At the North Island location, I always get the Cajun fries because it the perfect amount of *kick*! Their Five Guys fries are still good, though. I had to use ketchup, but for the Cajun fries I let the seasoning speak for itself. I love places with soda machines that offer a million different drink selections. Not many places do this, so I applaud Five Guys even more! The food is pricy but once you get the food, you'll understand why!! It is a must try and the fries are tender! I love all the toppings you can add and extra cheese and extra Bacon is FREE!! I'm not one to post reviews just because I don't like a place. Usually. But that's what I'm doing here. A friend and I used to visit this Five Guys about twice a month. It's convenient to both of us, midway between work places. But it's not anywhere close to my favorite Five Guys; it consistently disappoints. I know how corporate operations work; I've done this kind of work myself. There's a policy, instructions, video, training, etc., etc. But at this restaurant it seems like the employees are building burgers for themselves, not their customers. Five Guys Liberty Station is the same as Five Guys Parkway Plaza. But Hillcrest is it's own place, where the employees attempt to build a tower with condiments, making the burgers impossible to get through without a collapse. read more

Door wide open at 9:40am today so walked in to order. General Manager Dawn (5-8", 200lbs, blond, black shirt) started yelling, not asking, demanding I leave immediately as they're not open for few hours. She hides behind the counter still cussing and yelling at me, while I'm already at the door about to exit. I inform her this is unacceptable from a manager and she will be reported. She tells me to "get the f*** out of her store as she's calling the cops. First of all I'm already outside, second of all telling a customer that who has given no reason to is unreal since customers make your business continue to grow. This is a small snippet of the words coming from Dawn mouth, I am the customer and selected five guys to eat under assumption they were open, being called stupid, an A hole, and being told to GTFO, is not something I expected when I chose this place to eat today, or EVER from ANYWHERE. Clearly she's having a bad day and taking this way out of line. I will ensure this spreads so other can see it, and furthermore also reported her to the police who was already next to me when leaving. Officer also said he though resturant was open since he saw door open an hour before this happened. Sounds like a security breach and a manager not following policies, furthermore to talk to anyone like that when not warranted when your supposed to lead by example, unacceptable and would not want someone like this working for or representing my brand ever. This behavior tarnishes brands and she's letting her personal problems affect her work and the customers that come in, ruining hard work and good customer service the Five Guys brand try's to maintain. Had her threats been anywhere near direct to my safety, I would be going after her and five guys with the law and police. Shouldn't be taken lightly, especially in today's date you don't know who is capable of what and this could have been a safety concern for me and any customer if she continued on.
