I approached Five Guys with high hopes and great expectations when it was recommended by two guys who dine there regularly on the East Coast. Mistake, mistake, mistake.I can't not understand for one second why anyone likes Five Guys. Christ. This might have been the worst burger of my life!!! Let me break it down for you: Bun: AWFUL. Starchy, flavorless crap. Comparable to some generic seeded bun you'd find in an 8 pack at Safeway. Meat: Juicy, Yelpers?? Are you kidding? That's not juice. It's GREASE! The meat had NO FLAVOR whatsoever. No basic seasoning, just oozed shiny nastiness. I squeezed some fo the grease out and fed it to the dog. If there was seasoning, the grease covered the flavor. Cheese: This might have been the worst and best part of the burger, because it's the only thing that gave the burger any flavor (other than the taste or flavor of grease, if that's even a flavor). The cheese, however, tasted like Kraft Singles American cheese. That was kind of insulting and really nasty. You can tell they're going for the cheapest product possible here. Mayo, Relish, Ketchup, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Pickles, and whatever other lame "EVERYTHING" toppings: A miss!!! The flavor of grease and starch is all I tasted when I bit into this burger and while the portions are large, the quality of each of the ingredients is so poor that nothing stands out or adds anything to the burger. The flavor just melds into a big grease trap in your stomach without any defining characteristics for the palette. Fries: What a letdown. In a to-go bad, you'd think they'd provide some salt...nope. I like that they were skins on, but they tasted a little greasy to start, and tasted more like grease than a fry. I ordered the Cajun style fries, too, which must have been a joke, because there was nothing Cajun about those fries. It tasted more like...some unsalted version of Lawry's Seasoning Salt with chili powder or something. I'll give Five Guy's credit for their portions, which are huge (too big I'd say, especially with the fries), but overall I give this place a big P for PASS! The flavor of the burger is far different than In n' Out and really the two are hardly comparable, but what In n' Out lacks in quantity, they make up for in the quality of their ingredients. That's the major area where Five Guys is lacking, and you sure can taste that in every bite, if you decide to take more than one that is! P.S. Its easy to see why from the checkered red and white pattern to the simple menu. But the aesthetics are when the similarities end. This place kills In-N-Out on every level. The burgers are fatter, the toppings are more plentiful, and the fries, oh the fries. I love fries, any fries, steak fries are among my favorite kind. Unfortunately nobody has been able to do good steak fries since Great Steak in the old Sunnyvale Town Center. Five Guys does. I got the Bacon Cheeseburger with mayo, and grilled mushrooms. It was delicious...probably could've done without the mayo though, but that was my fault. It was cooked just right with crispy bacon. The burger patty was ugly, a great sign that it was made by hand. It was also big, I couldn't tell if it was 2 patties or just one large one. My meal came up to around $10 (burger, reg. fries, reg. soda), well worth it. I was here for the first time last week with my bff. I've heard so much about this place that I HAD to check it out for myself. Luckily, the burgers here are better than what I expected it to be according to the reviews. First of all, the burgers here DON'T taste like In-N-Out burgers, nor are they not as good. I don't know WTH some people are talking about. Both my bff and I thought the burger was very good and fresh tasting. They use top quality beef with no added hormones. The beef patties are a bit thicker than what you'd get at In-N-Out. Also, you get to choose FREE unlimited toppings! Nice! Their best toppings are the grilled onions and mushrooms. The other free toppings included tomato's, lettuce, relish, mayo, mustard, ketchup, jalapenos, fresh onions, and a few other items that I can't recall. If you get the works though, you'll only get the items listed in black on their menu. They also have sandwiches and hot dogs here. The prices aren't expensive either, so again, I don't get why people complained. We both got the small bacon cheeseburger which is a single patty burger for about $4.29 I think. As for the fries, SKIP the Cajun fries as the seasoning is weird! The seasoning tasted like seasoning salt mixed with something like cinnamon. Yuck! The portions were very generous though and one order is enough for two people to share. If you eat in and like soda, you'll love their drink selection. Be sure to get plenty of napkins along with your food as their burgers tend to fall apart easily. People were saying it's better than In-N-Out, so it must be worth coming to. The exterior and style of this place looks very similar to In-N-Out. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, which costs about 7-8 bucks. I also ordered some five guys style fries for about 3 bucks. The cheeseburger was super greasy. My take out bag was drenched in oil (It didn't look very appealing). The burger itself was decent. Compared to In-N-Out the components that made up the burger here seemed more fresh, but definitely more greasy. The fries were pretty good. They give you a lot of fries for the price. Maybe I came on an off day. I wanted to try this place SO DAM BAD. I waited till the hype died a little and finally came here on my day off. First off, I was a little overwhelmed by all the different toppings that I could put on my burger. Yes, they're free so why not throw them all on right?! I really don't see what the big deal is about this place. I mean, the burgers are alright, but the really aren't anything to rant and rave about. They seriously taste like a burger that I could make at home any day of the week, not to mention that I could make it for cheaper! It's nice that they have 'free' toppings, but at about $6 a pop for a cheeseburger, I would certainly hope that they won't try to nickel and dime over toppings since that could quickly turn it into a $10 burger. I ordered a cheeseburger with 'everything' plus onions and peppers. The peppers turned out to be raw bell pepper--I guess I was expecting something different like Ortega pepper--which was actually pretty disgusting to me. I also did not like the fact that the bun wasn't toasted, it quickly became soggy under the double patty burger and the whole thing started to fall apart. I only ended up eating about half of it before I could take any more and for me, that's saying something because I hate to waste food. And I hated the fries. They seriously tasted like straight up cooked potato; I know that may sound stupid, but i've eaten chips all over the world, and I have grown to expect them to taste like a mix of potato plus the oil that they are cooked in. These were so unappealing to me, I think I only ate a handful of them. The line was ridiculous and the place was crowded to capacity, but fortunately the lines go relatively quickly and they had a lot of people working so the food came out pretty quickly. I was totally underwhelmed by this place, and I have a feeling that once the newness of it wears off, the average rating will dip down to a 3 and stay there. Five Guys was definitely nothing to write home about... but enough to write Yelp about. ;) My boy had enjoyed Five Guys in North Carolina and found out one opened in San Jose -- so we went. And stood in line. The upside to the line? The order came up WAY fast. They have a HUGE assembly line in back. 15 people. I'm convinced there's a person JUST to put a sticker on the burger. I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger for ~$5. I knew the regular sized burger would just be too massive... and I was right. So I had grilled onions and shrooms added and some A1 sauce and mayo. It came out and upon my first bite I was like, really? This is it? If I were drunk or had a hangover -- this greasy number might do the trick. I do NOT think it's better than in-n-out. 3.5 stars for Five Guys. I finally got to try the infamous Five Guys Burger and Fries! I must say i was a tad disappointed given all the hype. I ordered the Little Cheeseburger with everything on it and A1 sauce for about $4. When I got it, it was HUMONGOUS! It was oozing with cheese, grilled onions, and mushrooms. When I got home and saw that the bottom of the bag was soaked with oil..i got a bit disgusted. The burger was overall tasty for a fast food joint. It did remind me of In N Out with the ability to customize with various toppings. I wasn't able to taste the A1 sauce, which was a bit disappointing. The one positive thing I can say is the unlimited amounts of toppings you can have on your burger or hot dog. But then it gets super hard to eat! The best way to put my opinion of this place, is to relate it simply to sex. I'd rather go in and out with one guy, then have the option of five guys. With sex, just like eating - it's more of an issue of quality rather than quantity. And this rule applied here. There was a buzz around this place, so when there was a chance to try it, we did. Nothing stood out. A double Bacon cheeseburger not loaded "all the way" (you will know what this means if you ever get a chance to look at their menu) and some mediocre fries. All their burgers were done well, and while I'm not asking to have food poisoning - I take my meat juicy. It made me wish that my friend Jessie J. (and fellow Yelper) owned this joint, because she sticks a pat of butter in the middle of hers. The reason I'm giving five guys a 1-star rating is because of all the hype surrounding this place and high expectations I had. But then receiving a bland, mediocre, over-cooked burger with a soggy bun and some of the worst french fries I've ever eaten, 1-star seems appropriate. I really don't understand how people can say such great things about this place. When you read reviews that say "better than in-n-out" that's really saying something. Anyone from the West coast will tell you In-n-out is second to none, even if it's "fast food," so to say better than in-n-out really means something. I went in Friday at 11:15am, right after they opened. There were already a decent amount of people inside and the place was becoming packed by the minute. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger "all the way" (with everything) and regular fries. It was over $10 in which a double-double + fries would be about $5. So I'm already thinking this better be a good damn burger if they are charging "The Counter" prices (p.s. the counter would be my second favorite burger). The wait wasn't bad since the place wasn't completely packed, as it was when we left (the line went around the entire interior of the restaurant), and they have free peanuts, which is a little odd, but they hold you over while you wait if you're starving. My number was #20 and I swear they got to #30 before I had to get up and ask for my food, I saw it on the counter and it was called moments later. The fries are just dumped into the bag "hopefully" into the cup it comes in. They are steak fries with that "natural" cut look. The fries are terrible. I mean absolutely terrible. They have no flavor, aren't crispy, and are so bland. It's like eating a potato with a dash of salt. Even drowned in ketchup they weren't very good. The Cajun ones are better (season salt). On to the burger. It's really not that bad, but shouldn't I be more inclined to say that its really good? The bacon is smaller than the weak little pieces Wendy's puts on theirs, the amount of toppings was good (grilled mushrooms with no extra cost is a great idea), but I think it also makes the bun soggy and the buns aren't toasted so they can get pretty wet if you wanted to eat anything to go. The meat in the burger was my biggest complaint. They cook the hell out of the meat and its so well done it almost takes like charcoal. The patties remind me of those costco burger patties you get 40 for $8 and are tasteless no matter how much seasoning you can throw on it. I wasn't impressed at all. The size of the burger was good. It will definitely fill you up, but the quantity vs. quality isn't favorable. I feel so bad for all the Yelpers who are flocking to this place everyday. If this review is newest and on top please read it and don't waste your time or $10. In-n-out is so far superior to this place in every way. The line got so long inside I don't think the people at the end would be eating for 30 minutes. Don't buy the hype...and DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS!!! (fries are fried in peanut oil and there are peanuts in the restaurant) With so many peanut allergies today, this company is ignorant to fry french fries in peanut oil IMO. That said, burgers are yummy and juicy. I don't know why everyone thinks the fries taste good. I thought they sucked and were very dense. I'd rather have in-n-out fries anyday over these fries. The burgers do offer variety, but the whole place feels like a poor copy of in-n-out. I do like that you can make your burger how you want it.... but you can pretty much do that most places. Since they don't show any prices online here they are. Regular hamburger $4.89 cheeseburger $5.59. Little hamburger $3.89 Little cheeseburger $3.99. With bacon add about 75 cents more. Kosher style hot dogs $3.69,bacon and cheese hot dog $4.89. Fries regular or Cajun style regular size $2.59(they give you tons) large size $4.59. They also have Kosher Hot Dogs $3.69. The hot dogs look amazing split down the middle and grilled yum. All the toppings are free here's the list. Mayo,lettuce,pickles,grilled onions, grilled mushrooms,ketchup,mustard, relish,onions,jalapeno peppers,green peppers,A1 steak sauce Bar b Que sauce, hot sauce. No shakes only Coke diet or regular or water. They also have a veggie sandwich $2.99 and grilled cheese sandwich for $2.99. The whole staff is very friendly, upbeat and seem happy to work there. My friend Jeanne Y. and I have had an ongoing Five Guys v. In N Out debate. Prior to trying this Five Guys, my one other experience with the place left me feeling sick for the rest of the day. The burger was too greasy for me. Okay, that and the fact that I am a lifelong California girl. Choosing Five Guys over In N Out is like shunning my family in favor of something slightly more sparkly. Anyway, I decided to give it another shot over the weekend. I remember loving the fries and the Yelp reviews made me think that maybe I was too hard on them the first time around. First things first, Google needs to do something about the picture of the location they have on the website. I dumbly did not check the address and went to the location based on where it was on the pictured map. It's near where my high school was, so I figured getting there would be cake, right? No. That star on the map is in the middle of some random Willow Glen street. Don't go there. Go to the giant shopping center on Curtner. We finally made it there and there was a giant line. It went kind of quickly, but it also took forever to get our food. I was kind of put off by the fact that you can't see the inside of the restaurant because they're too busy decorating the windows with stories of how great they are. I was also put off by the fact that the standard burger is a double burger. That is not and should never be standard. Anyway, it took like ten years to get the burgers and they were cold when we got them. They are better than your standard restaurant variety burger and they were good, but there was nothing impressive about them. They were super greasy and did not taste nearly as fresh as In-N-Out burgers do. Yeah, I know. Burgers are supposed to be greasy, but I still prefer In-N-Out. Fries were good. I liked the seasoning but the fries also got cold super fast. And these were not fries that taste good cold. I love the cajun fries though. They were quite delicious. I wanted to check out Five Guys when I was in Pittsburgh, PA, but I went to Primanti Brothers instead. So when I read about Five Guys coming to the area, I was excited and just recently Zagat declared Five Guys is better than In-and-Out. Hmmm...I was skeptical about that. I went around 2 pm on a Friday and the line was long, but it moved quickly. I almost got the cheeseburger, but the cashier told me that it's two patties. I didn't want to get into a food coma, so I got the little cheeseburger instead, which is one patty. The advantage that Five Guys has over In-and-Out: The toppings. So many to mix and match. On my cheeseburger, I decided to get grilled mushrooms,green peppers, grilled onions, mayo, mustard, and ketchup. The burger was really good and the meat patty is definitely thicker than In-and-Out's. Very juicy and full of flavor. Along with the burger, I got the regular cajun fries, which was good too. I wish that the fries were crisper though. Verdict: Five Guys ties In-and-Out. Five Guys has more variety, but In-and-Out has better fries and offers milkshakes. But burger to burger, I do give Five Guys a slight edge. Definitely one of the best fast food burgers around! read more

My boyfriend loves this place but me, not so much. Burgers are expensive. Meat patty is skimpy. I had to get the additional sauces especially since so many options are presented; however, I taste more of the sauce than the juiciness of the meat. I could barely taste the cheese from my Little Cheeseburger. I do like the sesame bun. I like the cajun fries. I like the options of sauces. Overall, I like it but I don't love it. I prefer In 'N Out because the burgers are juicier. So after hearing all this east coast west coast tension, i thought to myself, "I miss Biggie and Tupac"... Then I decided to take a trip to San Jose and try 5guysBurgers for my self. First off: 5guys to In&Out is like apples and oranges. 5guys burgers are bigger (so the price comparison is moot). They have great condiments and the overall taste of the burger is a blending of said condiments to the beef and bun. In&Out on the other hand is a better beef patty and toasted bun. What makes each of them good is different. Which is a good thing, we don't need more In&Outs. Two VERY different style burgers. Oh, and the fries? Oily and bland. Too much hype and not enough flavor. The cajun style ones are just as bland but slightly spicy. So moral of the story? Don't shoot rappers...wait, I mean: 5Guys is a good burger joint with great condiments/toppings such as Mushrooms/Grilled Peppers/Lettuce/Tomatoes/Pickles. Finally! The long awaited (for me) Five Guys at the Plant is open. We had Five Guys a year ago on a trip to Savannah, GA, and when I saw that they were opening one down the street from me, I was stoked. We noticed it was finally open the other night so made a lunch stop ASAP. The burgers are amazing! So much flavor... my In N Out days are over. I get the 'little' bacon cheeseburger which comes with one patty, but the hubby went for the regular - a two patty monster. Delish! I'm not crazy about their fries, but who needs them when you can't put their burger down? The bacon in the burger was the real stuff (none of this nuked 5 second bacon) and they have a good selection of condiments to adorn your burger. The line seems intimidating but it moves fast, and the food was ready within 5 minutes. Less time to have to wait for an incredible burger. Horray for Five Guys! read more

This Five guys here is way better than the five guys elsewhere. I"m not sure why , but this is the only five guys I can eat at and not feel sick afterwards. Maybe it has better quality? I dunno. This place is over-hyped. Big disappointment. I ordered the Little Cheeseburger (Little = 1 pattie, Regular = 2 patties) with mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and jalapeno peppers. I have never had better customer service in my life!!! I have been to this location 5-7 times now and the staff is incredible. Everyone from the cashier to the staff cleaning up the tables has actually made my day better. Within minutes of someone leaving their table it is wiped down and ready to be seated. Not once have I had to grab a stack of 7000 napkins...you know to avoid touching someone "leftovers." I even tried to pick up a napkin I dropped once and an employee was right there shaking her finger at me smiling telling me she got it. Another example of their stellar team came when I order cajun fries and by mistake they gave me regular. When brought to the counter they immediately replaced them apologized 5 times (and that's rounding down), told me to keep the regulars, and gave me a fresh batch. While most people would say, "uh yea they should have done that, they got your order wrong." I say, "shush!" It isn't the obvious approach that I would receive what I ordered because most places would do the same thing, but the fact that I genuinely felt like they were sorry. The sincerity in everything they do really comes across to their customers. I could rave on and on about how amazing the Five Guys team is at The Plant but I will move on to the burgers, which are also 5 star BTW. Now let us settle one argument here..FIVE GUYS VS. IN-N-OUT? There is no contest the two are so unique that they cannot be compared, there for I will never choose. Ok, now that that is settle moving on.. Their food tastes fresh, the bacon is crispy and delicious, their portion are over the top, and their price cannot be beat. Great quick burger that you can really have made your way. *btw this place is crawling with peanuts so it is not allergy safe in anyway shape or form, but they do respect those with allergies as they do not allow you to remove the peanuts from inside of their place and are consistently sweeping outside to avoid any debris being left behind by those taking their burger to-go. read more

So Hubby convinced me to try this place again... somehow he thinks they will get better with time. Well, I will have to disagree with him on this one, time will not help Five Guys, at least not in my book. This time we sat inside, which felt crowded, loud and cold. While in line, we were reading all their awards and reviews, and it seems that they are known for cheap eats not necessarily great tasting burgers, no really, I like great tasting burgers even if it cost a little bit more. And I'm sorry but I don't think $6 for a Regular Cheese Burger is cheap, yeah so you get all the toppings on it but still not cheap... I would have expected better taste. It's like In n' Out, but better. Cheap? Not really, $6.99 for a burger itself. Once in a while is good, though. Not bad. First time here with friends. Small clean place in a big plaza called The Plant on Curtner. Got bacon cheeseburger with mayo, mustard, ketchup, pickles, lettuce, and radish...so gooood. Love their fries and I want more. This is not a fast food joint, so people, you need to stop comparing it to McDonalds. Everything here is cooked to order and the only restaurant based on wait time and set up to compare this place to is In n Out. I ordered from both these places today and set up a taste test. This is the result of having too much free time and excess income to afford two lunches in one day. Fries- Both are fresh cut fries, In n Out's are thinner and seasoned with salt. Five guys fries are a little bit thicker, their servings is much larger and they offer salt seasoning or the delicious cajun seasoning. Edge: Five Guys Burgers- In n Out offers their stock burgers with their standard sauce that tastes like thousand island dressing. Five Guys burgers offer mushrooms, ketchup, mustard and a variety of fixins to choose from. I order both burgers without any sauce. I told them both to prepare my burgers with nothing more than the meat cheese and buns. In n Out toasts the buns and the the ingredients taste very fresh, as if they were delivered daily. Five guys puts two patties and two slices of cheese and was surprised how bland it was. the meat tasted on par with mcdonalds, and the bread was atrocious. soggy, mushy, just plain yucky. Edge: In n out Price- not much to say, In n Out is cheaper, but the portions are slightly smaller, personally the smaller portions make me feel less bloated. Service- everyone at both places are so friendly, it makes the wait for the food easier Edge: Push Verdict: Both are mirror images when if comes to efficiency and presentation of their respective restaurants. Yeah yeah, In N Out is better. Quality wise, In N Out uses fresh meat that is never frozen, Five guys, clearly doesn't. It's kinda cool that you can put a bunch of stuff on their burgers but overall, the meat is gamey and kinda chewy like it's been frozen and then cooked really fast to try and make it taste fresh. Their fries are better than In N Out's but that's about it. I'd say stick with In N Out's fresh meat and secret menu over Five guys any day..unless you're SUPER hungry and want a mediocre tasting burger with a bunch of stuff loaded on it. read more

So the Five Guys finally opened in the Jo, and I had to get my grub on for one of my favorites...the burger. I read this was the "In-N-Out of the East Coast." I'd call that a pretty fair comparison. Us five fat asses got to Five Guys at 10:40. It said they are open daily at 11, but those hard working kids were open and serving by 10:50. As we walked in, I saw three other cars full of fat ass men. By 11, the line was 20-25 deep. The kind girl that helped me was nice. Two kinds of burgers there: Little is one patty. Big is two. You can add cheese and bacon for a little more coin. They have about 20 condiments you can add for free. I had mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle and grilled onions. They have other sauces and fresh/grilled veggies to choose from as well. Nice touch that you can have your burg as simple or sophisticated as you want - all at the same cost (take note, The Counter). I also got a small Cajun Fries and a soda. While you wait, you can snack on some peanuts. A few minutes passed and my number was called. I couldn't see my burger, because the small fries is pretty much a whole bags worth. I took the cup of Cajun Fries out, and dug in the paper bag for the burg. There were more fries in the bag than my cup. The small fries can easily feed three. In fact, I bet they waste a shitload of fries daily. Just a ridiculous amount of fries come in their order. The first bite of my burger was heavenly. It was hot, juicy and fresh. Whoever picked that combination of condiments was brilliant! Definitely BETTER than In-N-Out. The fries, not so much. I'd like to try the regular fries next time, as they went buck friggen wild on the Cajun seasonings. They were actually good for the first few, but the seasoning is overpowering, and you can forget that a potato is even under all of it. Overall, Five Guys depends on what you classify it as. If you consider it fast food, then it is an easy 5-star burger joint, and new King of fast food. If you consider it more of a specialty burger place like a Red Robin or The Counter, then it will be a 4-star. Also, just an assumption - but I bet this meal does not travel well. Too juicy, I'd think it would be a mess - so dine in there. I'll go somewhere in the middle. 4.25 stars. But don't be surprised to see this bumped to a five after another visit... read more

This place gets way too much hype than it deserves. Burgers are decent, but don't taste as good as In-n-Out. They may be bigger than In-n-Out burgers, but they definitely don't deliver as much on taste... as I ate my burger, I thought, "This would taste so much better if it had the spread." Nonetheless, the burger patty wasn't dry. Also, I said, "Only mayo, lettuce, and tomato, please." When I got my burger, it came with all that, plus jalapeno peppers. Some would have liked that, but I didn't. I had to pick them out and a lot of seeds got stuck in the mayo, which I also had to pick out, ugh!!! That was annoying. My first Five Guys experience and they mess up my burger... boo. I also wish the buns were toasted more because mine were soggy. Some notes: Regular burgers come with 2 patties, "Little" burgers come with one. Large fries (comes in cajun, too) can feed up to 3-4 people (depending on how hungry they are), regular fries can easily feed 2 people. All toppings are FREE, and there are free re-fills on drinks. They also serve hot dogs. I wouldn't necessarily come out here to satisfy a burger craving, but I will come back to try their hot dogs. read more

I love how the manager/owner welcomed everyone in line by shaking their hand and explained to them how the menu works. It showed that he genuinely appreciated us customers. They were only opened for 12 days when I came in to try it out, and it was still packed! The line was about 15-20 people deep when we stepped in. It didn't take long at all to get to the counter though. We ordered 2 hamburgers, 2 cheeseburgers, and 1 bacon cheeseburger all the way.. along with 1 large regular fryand 1 large cajun fry. I love the "All the way" concept. I liked the burger. It was yummy with all the fixings but was very messy to eat. Perhaps I'll go with the "Little Burger" next time. I thought the fries were good, but not my favorite. I don't like how they're oily and soft. The cajun fries could use a little something other than just a sprinkle of cajun seasoning. But that's just my take on it. Lastly, it IS a tad expensive.. but I guess they're factoring in the unlimited toppings and sauces. Overall, I really did enjoy my experience at Five Guys Burger & Fries. I'll be back to try their hot dogs.. and Little Burger.. and who knows what else :) read more

I love burgers, and Five Guys Burgers is amazing. I have to admit, the first time I saw this place, I turned to Hubby and made fun of the name. Any food place with "Five Guys" in its name just does NOT sound appetizing to me at all. But.. after seeing the huge crowds inside and the reviews on Yelp, Hubby and I decided to try it. And we are so glad we did. You basically get to build your own burger, and they have so many toppings and sauces to choose from. I love it! I had a little cheeseburger (little burgers have one meat patty, while normal burgers have 2) with grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, grilled green peppers, A-1 sauce, and hot sauce. It was so freaking delicious, I wanted another one after I devoured the first one. Hubby felt the same. Next time I'm going to try their fries. This place is WAY better than In-N-Out. read more

I think my expectations were too high when I went to this place for the first time, because in a way i was a bit disappointed. First of all it very much reminds of In-and-Out; the scenery, the colors, and even the selection menu. Very simple and straight to the point. Burgers taste great, though they are a big soggy and fall apart while you eat; my friend literally had to use a fork to finish his. Fries.. plain out suck. Don't even bother ordering the 'five guys fries' - they're completely tasteless (and i thought in and out fries were tasteless), the cajun fries are better but if you're sensitive to spicy food you might not be able to eat too many of them. Kudos on adding grilled mushrooms as a topping. But you need to make sure to mention that you actually want toppings; or you'll get a plain bun and patty with nothing else. read more

To everyone giving reviews of 3 Stars and under: You are all a bunch of elitists. Seriously. And I love me some In-N-Out just as much as the next person, but let's be real and give credit when it's due. ESPECIALLY those complaining that, "OMG, this tastes like a burger I can make at home." Excuse me, but are you trying to tell me that a backyard-bbq-type burger ISN'T GOOD?! Of course by that, I'm talking about a backyard burger that's perfectly cooked and that wasn't burned by Uncle Joe, who is too busy getting tipsy off his fifth Corona Light. The burgers are juicy, perfectly cooked and the buns are nice and toasted. Not only that but the selection of toppings are awesome! Bacon!? Grilled Onions!? Grilled Mushrooms?! Does In-N-Out offer that? NO. Oh what's that? You want some In-N-Out sauce? Go buy some thousand island dressing from the supermarket if you're that hard up for it. Let's not forget the fries. Now, In-N-Out fries used to be my favorite, but Five Guys does it WAY better, I'm sorry, but they do. Not only that, but the portion of fries is VERY Generous! They give you the cup of fries PLUS a tray! So awesome. And if there's a long wait, you can grab some free peanuts that are available to snack on. For everyone that HASN'T tried Five Guys, Don't let these In-N-Out snobs get you down about this place. It's delicious, the food is great, the toppings are fresh, the fries are awesome and the service is excellent. Give it a shot for yourself if you want a good burger. And Animal Style is overrated. Someone please tell me why people love this place. First off the burger was nothing great and the fries were a horrible soggy mess. Even my 2 year old french fry loving princess wanted nothing to do with them. I just can't see myself coming back here for a burger, there are so many better options than this overly glorified and crowded place. Maybe you'll find me at a buger joint that sells milk shakes. "Meh" just about sums it up. It's really hard for any establishment to live up to crazy expectations and the hype was certainly all about the opening of Five Guys here in San Jose. I'd heard all about how great these burgers were supposed to be and when we arrived on a Friday night the place was crowded with a long line to order your food so everyone must have been hearing the same thing. I got a small cheeseburger with mushrooms, jalapenos and grilled onions. Now for the pros of this place: Lots of choices on the toppings No extra charge for the toppings Fast service even with a million customers in the place Fresh (not pickled) jalapenos that actually packed some heat Unfortunately there are also the cons: My burger was somewhere between lukewarm and cold The bun was cold and smashed Grilled onions weren't as tasty as the ones at In-N-Out The fries were undercooked and limp The Cajun fries while spicy (good) were really salty (bad) The staff seemed friendly and the place was clean which is no small feat given the number of customers in the building. I'd be willing to give it another try just to be sure, but I think I'll be sticking with In-N-Out for my quarterly cheeseburger indulgence. read more

Definitely A-OK! Not fabulous but not horrible either. We came on a Thursday night and this place was packed. We ordered two burgers and shared the Cajun fries. The burgers were good....I liked the meat and everything that we added to the burger but the bun ruined it for me. The bun is not toasted and just tastes like white nothing. I sort of wish it had no bun because I would have enjoyed the burger so much more. The fries were greasy and not that great. They give you WAYYY too many fries. You could easily share this bag of fries with 5 people. Personally I would prefer less fries that were better quality then an entire bag of grease. Definitely over-hyped. I would come back but I wouldn't stand in a long line for their burgers. read more
