Well...I've never been particularly keen on Fg's but tonight, a Saturday night when the kids all went home for the winter break. Needless to say there was no line, no wait, and I'm waiting for my ride to finish dinner (all 26 of them). So I wander in and peruse the menu, burgers, hot dogs, a veggie sandwich and fries and shakes. Ah yeah a cheese burger please. Took all of ten minutes, probably less. Twenty bucks with a tip, no fries, no drink for me. Good burger, I prefer a little bit of pink, grilled onions with ketchup & mayo. The bun is sesame seed topped which I try to stay away from for dietary reasons. I gobbled that down right quick and I think I tasted it. Sure I'd come back but it's another burger, another burger place trying to convince us it's "the" best burger place in town, not. We ordered Five Guys from the Arroyo Grande location through DoorDash, and it took so long that our original dasher decided to leave and a new dasher was assigned to our order. The new dasher still had to wait for our order because it was not ready yet. They then had to wait for a second person's order due to having two dash orders and it took just as long for them to prepare that person's meal, so we had to wait even longer. I ordered dinner at 8:46 and Five Guys took over 40 minutes to make our order, then it took an additional 25 minutes for them to make the next persons order. So by the time the food was delivered to us it was 10pm. The double dash was not Five Guys fault but to take over 40 minutes to prepare just our meal was way too long. Every time we try to order from this location, it either takes forever for them to prepare our food or they cancel it after waiting 30 to 45 minutes for our order after they start preparing it (which has happened to us a couple times before). Overall I love the food, and I completely understand being understaffed but I would rather have you cancel the order in the beginning so we can order somewhere else before they close if it's going to take too long to prepare. Overall very disappointed with our experience with this location, I really like the food and I've had totally normal experiences at every other location we've visited including San Luis Obispo so I don't know why this location seems to be so hard to order from. Haven't been to a five guys in well over a decade, recently moved back to slo and had to stop by. Food was as tasty as I remember and the service staff was super friendly and had some great suggestions for my order. Samuel G was the guy who helped and opened my palate to some bomb Cajun fries with light Cajun season and I'm super happy I took his suggestion. Tons of seating room inside and out and the whole ambiance was wonderful from start to delicious finish. I also really liked that their ketchup was a push dispenser and their containers came with little lids to take to-go! Very helpful for an Oder to-go. read more

I have had these burgers before, and so I knew that the burger itself would be delicious, but it's everything else that is the problem. Masks required but the workers say nothing when people come in without them. The food was made and at on the counter while te guy made the milkshake, bag getting more greasy and food cold by the second. And then the price. For two burgers, a fry, a veggie sandwich, and a shake, 40 dollars. That is steep. The shake was a problem too, made with so much flavoring syrup that it was almost inedibly saccharine. read more

Stopped here as we were heading down to southern Cal for the weekend. The location as plenty of outside seating. As we entered, they have signs all over to inform their customers where to stand to and space themselves apart. The person who took our order was friendly and very cheerful. I ordered a little bacon burger with mushroom, onions, and jalapenos. I shared fries with my hon. It took several minutes for the food to come, as it was a 2 man crew the back. One taking the order and the other on filling the orders. I was glad I ordered the little burger, as the size was very filling for me. The bacon was crispy and I enjoyed the jalapenos stuffed on top the patty. It was a good burger. I thought the fries were season well with salt. Each fry had enough salt on it. Thought it did not stay crispy that long, as long as the salt was there, it tasted good. This was a good intro to 5 guys, and I cannot wait to try it again. read more

Man, I love 5-Guys burgers, and this locale is delivering as good as they do in DC & VA. The burgers have a wonderful, lick-your-fingers flavor, and the fries are excellent and plentiful. EXPENSIVE. That is the word that comes to mind when I think of Five Guys. If you would like to order a burger and fries, expect to spend $15+. The food itself is pretty tasty, but I just cannot believe the price tag. In a town with a handful of more affordable eateries, there are so many other options. I would rather drive to Atascadero or Arroyo Grande for In-N-Out. The burger there is much more affordable and quite honestly much better. The one redeeming factor of Five Guys is their milkshakes. This place is a chain, and I do prefer to support local businesses, but this was the only burger place open when I was looking for one during the Shelter in place for covid19. Compare this place to any other burger place in SLO, like Brooks Burgers, Sylvesters burgers, and Flavor Factory, and you get pretty similar results. The thing I thought that was pretty cool was that you can pretty much add the kitchen sink, free of charge. Grilled jalapenos, grilled mushroom, and grilled peppers are some of the extras I chose. This place definitely has some growing pains in San Luis Obispo. First of all, this chain is amazing. One of their first restaurants opened in my home town years and years ago. Your burger is made fresh upon order with a standard of 2 patties and the peanut oil they use to cook the fries is always fresh. Now, for this particular shop in slo. People dont understand that you're allowed to throw the peanut shells on the floor. They also dont take into account that your burger has to be made FRESH upon order, they dont expect to wait. Honestly the service here is pretty standard and really not that bad, they just expect more in this town for some reason. Ingredients and flavor wise this place is high on my list. It always tastes good and I always know what I'm getting. The pricing here is... well it really is what makes this place 3 stars and not 5. I have never been to such an expensive five guys location, and this being on the college side of town that totally hurts their reviews. Don't get me wrong. I really like the food. No complaints there. However, it's a little uncomfortable when a customer at the register pulls out a switch blade and nobody says anything about it. Apparently he was just joking around with a friend, but does it matter? The cashier saw this guy pull out a KNIFE and didn't say a thing. Idk, maybe I'm the crazy one? I'm all for a good hamburger place and like every other 5 guys burger place I have been to this place makes the grade. The food was served quickly and professionally prepared. The location was clean and quiet, while the staff was also friendly and helpful. It was a slow night, but as a hungry traveler, I was happy to find this spot and sit down for a few minutes to enjoy a juicy hamburger and crisp salty fries. As a reminder, they are littered with peanuts so if you have a peanut allergy, stay away from any 5 Guys. Myself, I love peanuts! I'll be back to this location as I visit San Luis Obispo often. read more

This is definitely one of the best burgers in SLO. I have come here many times and I have nothing but positive things to say. You always get a fresh, delicious burger made by a very friendly and helpful staff. Depending on when you go, you may run into a large crowd or a very small one. Being so close to Cal Poly, it can get busy! Going during the summer time or when the college is out for holidays is usually a sure bet. I personally don't let that affect my going. The food is always worth it. The burgers are always freshly made to order and the fries are absolutely delicious! I also always like that they have the Coca Cola Feestyle machine. That way you can make up practically and concoction of soda you can think of. They make delicious milkshakes that my wife always enjoys too. Getting the free peanuts to eat while you wait for your food is always a nice treat to hold you over too. Again if you want a good, tasty burger then stop in. You definitely will enjoy it. My buddy told me that you can ask for grilled jalapenos on the burger, which sounded awesome. So yea, I did. Along with some ketchup, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, etc. Oh! Don't forget to order the seasoned fries he said. Right! I ordered my custom burger, got some fries, a drink, and some peanuts! One of the two drink machines was down, but the other worked. No Diet Coke. So I went for Diet Dr. Pepper. A solid second choice. I munched on some peanuts in the still very empty, but very clean restaurant. After a while, my custom made to order burger and fries were done. Yes! Rip open the bag...daaaang, that's a lot of fries for a small. Sweet! Dig into the burger, its moist, juicy, soft bun, easy to hold, good flavor. I am digging this. Halfway through, oh wait...'hey, does yours have grilled jalapenos?' 'no', 'huh....mine either'. While the burgers are really good and they are fresh, don't order take out or delivery from them if fries are part of the order. The fries are so greasy that the bag and napkins will be soaked by the time you get them home or delivered. I specifically asked for napkins and they put a lot of them in the bag but, everyone of them was soaked and useless. They really need to come up with a different bagging arraignment for the fries with take out and delivery orders, maybe wrapped in foil (like the burgers) and put in a separate bag. We do pay a premium for their food so you'd think we'd get premium packaging. With all that said I know a lot of people complain about the price of the food. The cheeseburger I had was tasty and my kids each finished their entire hot dog which is extremely rare. The restaurant was very clean. The reason for the full 5 stars is due to the excellent customer service on top of the good food. We had only been to a 5 Guys once before so we were still unfamiliar with the menu. Jordan took the time to explain the whole menu and ordering process. Later when I went to get ketchup he noticed immediately that the dispenser was out and quickly got me some. Stopped by here around 9:45 as I commonly do on Friday nights when i pass through this side of town. Yes i am aware they close at 10 which is why I only come in for quick milk shake only this time I was told the machine was "broken" the problem is I know this is not true. Looking over at it I could see that the station was broken down not to be repaired more like to be cleaned and sterilized as you would normally do at the end of a shift. Normally I wouldn't care to even comment on it but after getting in my car I watched two other cars pull up separately both who walked inside exchanged a few words the walk right back out same as I did. I also watched the employees all look at one another and Laugh about their interaction each time as well. It would've been perfectly understandable if they had said oh we closed it early and apologize. But the fact they lied about and then laughed behind customers backs was just childish. Also side note i didn't recognize any of the employees not sure if they recently had an influx of new employees because in the past the employees were nice and friendly this time I got the vibe that they were annoyed i walked in 15 min before closing which I get but also like you're getting paid ‍ read more

Mmmmmmm food poisoning... I had a wonderful night at the cal poly rodeo and after this amazing experience I wanted a burger. Made it to five guys and munched down on the burger at 9pm upon the stroke of 2am I was awakened with gurgles and nausea and burger bits in the porcelain. My girlfriend was the lucky one coming out unscathed, I would like y'all to realize that you're taking the chance of 6 hours of nausea and throwing up by eating here, I would've rather eaten a block of cheese and a gallon of milk (I'm lactose intolerant). So please, use caution, and remember In N Out is A LOT cheaper and A LOT tastier. read more

I've liked this place for a while, the burgers are really good (although sometimes can fall apart a bit... That's a good sign of actual beef in there). I posted this review though bc I got exceptional service in a 5 minute interaction with Jeremy so I wanted to give him a shout-out... I kept messing my own order up and forgetting things I wanted and he was really nice about it and laughed it off with me. First time trying this brand. I like what they did with the space. Walked in around noon and not many people were in there. Was welcomed by friendly and pleasant cashier. I mentioned it was my first time and she articulated the process and the menu. So, I ordered the (2 patty) burger with everything, fries and a drink. They don't have combos. Kindof a long wait even though not many people were in there. A good ten minutes; in the interim, I helped myself to the peanuts they have. Plenty of open tables and seating. Some were clean some were not. I never once saw staff wiping tables down or sweeping or restocking or tidying up. Got my order and it was in a brown to-go bag even tho I was eating there. Don't know if that was a mistake or s.o.p. the burger was wrapped tightly in foil paper. This flattened the buns and turned them mushy and soggy, unpleasant. They are low quality buns and then they squish them with the wrap. Burger was not good or anything special. Portion was fine, temp was fine, looks were ok. But just no flavor. The meat had no seasoning. If anything, the meats were oily. The fries reminded me of coffee bean roast levels; they were dark. Salt was adequate quality and amount. But the dark roasting (frying) of the fries gave them a bitter acrid flavor tinge. Hot oily potato mush. The cut and size and quantity were fine. They have one of those coke machines with a 1000 or whatever combos. Good. To the side, they have a stand alone iced tea dispenser tap with 4 kinds of teas. I chose raspberry and it was so plain and watery. Plenty of trash disposal receptacles but no recycling bins. Bathroom was very clean and well stocked with automated faucet and towel dispenser. I don't know what they hype is about this place. Unimpressive. I won't be returning. No animosity or anything like that, just nothing remarkable or special here. Yummmmm yummmmm I love that you can add mushrooms and the meat melts in your mouth. The fried are Yummmmy and healthy because they use peanut oil. The service is smooth and you get your yummy food nice and hot. Also while you are waiting for your food you can serve yourself some peanuts and eat while you wait. Came here multiple times and it's a very disappointing burger for the amount of money I paid. It's a lot more bland than you'd think and I'd rather drive all the way to Arroyo Grande to get some in out and it'd be way cheaper and 10x better. I can tell they probably make a lot of money because of all the white people with money out here, or all these college kids that'll eat up an overhyped food like no tomorrow.
