They are really nice staff here. My sister loves five guys. She said the food is consistent. I've only been to one location in SD as a kid, but I do agree with her sentiment that the food is of great quality. I love the Cajun fries, cheeseburgers and the coke drinks. It has been awhile since we've been into a Five Guys. Now I know why. We were in the neighborhood and thought a hotdog sounded good. Went into this location. The staff were very nice. Ordered 2 hotdogs, one with bacon, the other with mustard, a regular fry & a regular drink. It came to $31.00. While the hotdogs and fries were fine, it was not worth $31.00. And to top it off, when we paid, the machine asked for a tip. I'm sorry but there is a sign that says starting at $20 a hour. I'm not tipping when all they did was cook the hotdogs. We stood in line. I'm a bit surprised I've never reviewed Five Guys. Living up the street, I've eaten here a couple of times and my son even worked here for a few months. It's easy to complain about the prices, but they have a basic combo meal with a burger, fries, and a drink for about $12, which is not too high of a cost. When places like McDonalds are charging close to $15+ for a combo, Five Guys is actually kind of in the realm of reason, especially when you consider that you're getting a huge amount of fries for filler regardless of what size it is. Okay, so how about the taste? Honestly, I find Five Guys to be a bit bland when it comes to their burgers. The meat isn't smashed well, there's not that good of a crust on the beef, and they don't seem to give it much seasoning to help. And when you get everything on it, whatever flavors may have been there, get kind of lost under the heaps of onions, pickles, and sauce that are stuffed to the brim on your burger. Normally, I love that mix of different flavors and textures on a good burger, but at Five Guys, it just feels like added mass and filler. Which is not bad thing. The same kind of goes for both their Roasted Peanuts and their French Fries. As I noted, no matter what size fries you get, you're going to get a few handfuls of 'bag' fries on top of it. And while both are additional filler, they're also very tasty filler, and really the reason why you're likely coming here. You're going to be full and you're going to have a tummy full of salty starch. That's gonna keep you sweaty and happy for half a day. Anyway, Five Guys is not particularly a good burger, but it's satisfying for the price if you get yourself the smallest/cheapest of meals. You honestly don't need any more than that. If you're lucky, you'll find a combination of toppings that satisfies your taste buds. If not, you're still gonna walk away pretty full for more money than In & Out, but less than most other fast food spots. read more

The fries are great here. They are seasoned heavily and you get a ton of them. The burgers are good and I like the huge variety of "free" toppings, like grilled onions, jalapeños, grilled mushrooms, etc. The toppings are all free but, of course, you're paying for them in the price of the burger. My burger patties could have been seasoned more but they were still tasty. Unlimited free shelled peanuts make an outstanding appetizer. I could (did) eat a hundred of them. read more

Accessibility, flat ground place with wheelchair accessible bathrooms that are gender neutral. The drink machine has special buttons on the front right for wheelchair access, too! Experience: so expensive, and just okay. I still like other places like The Habit better. The burger didn't have much flavor to me, but the fries were good. I'm not the biggest fan of them cooking everything in peanut oil. The service was good, with nice employees, but it was a bit too loud in here, music wise. The dining area is a little smaller than most locations, but still big enough to not feel crowded. I just wish they weren't so expensive. I have been on a quest for a great burger, and while I did not feel that this would be the "the" one, I thought that it might be a good quick burger. We were a bit time constrained, and both of us had been here before a long time ago, and could not recall why we had not been there in the past 10 years or so. There was no waiting when we came in, and we stepped up to place an order, there were 2 (out of the 5?) guys working the grill, and we were greeted fairly quickly, stating they would be with us shortly. About 10 minutes later another guy (3 of 5?) came out of the back and happily took our order. I was taken back a bit at the price, for 1 bacon burger, 1 little bacon burger, and 1 regular fry, with tax and tip it was close to $40 bucks. This set my expectations maybe higher than they should have been, at this price but we did not have a lot of time. While there was no line in ordering, there was 1 table eating, and 2 other people sitting at different tables. I would say around the 30 minute mark, I checked on our order, and it was still not ready, I did see some people come in and pick up to-go orders, but this seems like a very long wait for "fast" food. Another 10 minutes and our food was ready. The fries were soggy and not very hot, I could not find anything particularly special about the burger as well, while it was wrapped in foil, it tasted like it had been sitting in foil for awhile and was pretty soggy tasting. Overall for the experience here, I would not go back, for what you receive it is both too expensive, too time consuming, and not fantastic. read more

What I did get was a complimentary cup for tap water and an $18 charge for a double cheese burger, small fry and the ol' option for a tip (suggestion starting at 18%) when swiping my card. Sorry, no tip today guys. I was order number two (2) today as I had arrived shortly after the 11am opening on this Wednesday morning. Food came out hot and fresh and the burger was tasty, flavorfully fatty, and moderately messy but not worth the double price I paid for the last 1/3lb burger combo with fries that I got from Tip Top Meats (read my other reviews). A good burger and fries here at 5-Guys, but the hype today was its location near my vehicle and me not wanting to walk across the parking lot to get sushi instead. Sushi would have been just a touch more on the healthier side as the fry bag today also had its characteristic 5-Guy grease stains. My son and I come to this Five Guys weekly as our "date night". The staff is appropriately polite and the food is consistently good. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because there temperature of this particular restaurant is so cold that it's impossible to sit and enjoy your food. The inside temperature is consistently colder than outside. for example, the last two week sits been 60 degrees on the nights we go and the inside of the restaurant is significantly colder than that. it's a ridiculous temperature and the manger needs to check the air system asap. read more

Really want to like Five Guys but the prices and messy presentation are what makes this place as bad as it is. I can't believe a burger is easily $15 here and fries are about $7. The fries are very greasy to the point where I don't want to order them, especially for the price and fact they just throw them in the bag and they always get the bag greasy and I have to fish them out of the bag. The burgers are greasy as well but I've seen worse, the buns are very average and the burgers themselves are very expensive (compare to Shake Shack and In-In-Out). On this last visit I ordered pick up with DoorDash and there was some confusion there, staff thought it had to be sealed thinking it was for a customer but it was for me, they went to look for a sticker and when they got back I had to explain it was for me. Then my order was wrong and I received the wrong amount of patties. Overall I won't be returning here as there are plenty of better options even in the area. read more

These guys constantly biff their to-go orders. Either they lose it in the queue or they have it made and don't make the mental connection when you tell them you're there. Either way, it's always a 20-30 minute ordeal just for pickup. I'd stop going, but they give me free coupons every time... and I never run out. read more

I was driving by the San Marcos location (next to Sprouts) and decided to give 5 Guys a try. I walk into the store, which could use a cleaning, and around the creative queue divider consisting of bags of potatoes and peanuts and up to the register. I stood at the register for a couple of minutes while 2 employees worked the grill. I believe there was another employee in the dining area looking at something on a wall and another employee (or more) in the back. The entire time I stood at the register, no one acknowledged my presence. No one said that they would be with me in a moment or said anything. After a couple of minutes I gave up and walked out to find somewhere else to eat. Since I was never able to order, I don't know what the total would have been but the prices on the menu board are quite high. The managers of this store really need to work on the customer service. It should be unacceptable to them that a customer left without ever being acknowledged. read more

I'm giving this three stars bc it's overall, the food is actually really tasty and taste really good, the fries and burger have really good quality but the problem is the execution, it always comes out looking like a mess and the fries are always just thrown in the bag yet there's a cup??? I give the taste 4 stars but as a whole 3, also the price compared to like an In and Out is expensive, it's more than double the price for a burger, fry and drink. And even after that 30 min trip home it still tasted good, obviously didn't microwave and it was still hot, I snuck a couple fries on the way just in case they got cold though lol. Not a horrible experience, but the 1 star is because I would not return and I would not recommend it to anyone else. The food is gluttonous and not balanced. Overly salted, everything seemed to have a heavy hand. The "regular" cheeseburger has two patties, the "little" is one patty. No where does the sign say that or did anyone tell me until I had already paid and someone shouted out the total number of patties. The burger was falling off the soaking wet bun, the cheese was still cold. I could not hold the burger to eat it, and attempted to fork and knife it, except everything comes in tin foil and was falling apart on the table. Soda machine seemed to be on the fritz, which isn't necessarily an issue, just added to the overall experience. The customer service is okay, I feel like the staff was more focused on fixing the issues than the shift lead (or manager, whoever wore the black shirt instead of the red one) who only came over to bark questions then orders at the staff and any walk away without a real conversation with me. I remember when Five Guys was only on the east coast and one of the sons talking about how they were dying to be in California competing with the local chains here. This is the only location I've been to on the west coast, and there needs to be some focus on quality of food preparation and delivery and the customer experience from the leadership. read more

Went into this location with some friends and watched the on-site site manager harass the staff for no apparent reason. I was shocked at how he yelled at the staff in front of everyone! It made me sick to see how they were being treated. They are charging top dollar for burgers while they treat their staff like trash. That makes me never want to eat there again. I paid over 7 dollars....I repeat 7 DOLLARS for a large fry, and see pic attached. If you eat here make sure you pick it up yourself so you can check your order. Delicious burgers but a bit too pricey for what's served. They won't make them till you order and you can be so greedy and slam a dozen of toppings on your burger, for free! Their beef taste good, buns are deliciously charred, toppings are well-seasoned, unlimited peanuts are provided, and of course their burgers are juicy and tasty. However, if you get the little burger, the toppings are little too... They run on the expensive side if you compare to fast food joints. The standard size comes with two patties and one burger can cost around $9, just the burger. The little burger has only 1 patty and it's around $6, but most of the time, one patty is enough for me so I order the small, which comes with a lower price tag. Their burgers are better than Carl's Junior and larger than IN-and-OUT, but more expensive. For a $12 combo meal, I feel like it's a dive bar price. I still like the burgers, but probably won't go often. The Cajun fries are always a good addition but they cost extra $. They're crispy, hot and freshly fried, nothing like the cardboard crap that they serve at in and out! It's conveniently located in the las posas plaza next to sprouts. This place don't even deserve a 1 start tbh. Came in on the 11.6.2024 at 8 pm. Food was garbage. I asked for jalapeños on my burger and ofc they forgot to put it on. I had to ask for it. Not to mention I asked for lettuce on my burger and they put a tiny little piece of lettuce. My husband asked for extra lettuce on his and they put tiny little piece of lettuce on his burger as well. I'm not sure why this is happening when u can clearly see the order details on the receipt . That just shows how incompetent and unmotivated these workers are. Idk if it's cuz they don't know how to read or follow instructions but this was a horrible experience for me and my family. The fries were over seasoned and dry. The buns were hard and I was really hungry so I tried to like my food bcuz we paid $60 for it but I just couldn't after couple of bites.. Not to mention it was freezing inside to the point we were shivering. The outside was warmer than inside. Which is wild. Literally felt like we were in a freezer.
