I like lots of meat so I like getting the burger that contains 2 patties! I will always put mushrooms on my burger, lettuce, tomato, and maybe a couple of sauces. The burgers are juicy and delish! You also HAVE to order the fries. Cajun is by far my favorite at this place and they season it so well. Another fantastic thing that they do is they put a whole extra scoop of fries in the bag before filling your container full of fries so you get 2 for the price of 1. I can't lie, I prefer Inn & Out to Five Guys if I absolutely must compare, but this is a great burger in it's own right. I like that you can customize your burger with different toppings and sauces. I try something different every time (so far, A1 sauce, tomato, onions, cheese, and mayo is my favorite combination). Also, I like how the regular size fries can feed a group of people. DON'T BE DECEIVED! Walking into the red and white tiled Five Guys restaurant will tease your senses into thinking you're at In N Out, but don't be fooled. You have stepped into an evil imposter! The restaurant should really be called Grease Plus! Although the burgers are huge, they're not particularly tasty, just kind of bland. They're also greasy. The fries are equally tasteless and even greasier. The grease bleeds through the brown paper. Despite being made from unpeeled potatoes, they lacked a strong potato taste. I come to Five Guys for lunch with my co-workers every so often. I like that there's ample parking, and the food is fresh with no preservatives. I always order the mini burger because it's plentiful and is a good portion for me. I always order it bunless, wrapped in lettuce. I get all the veggies, cheese, and ketchup. No mayo or mustard. It's a much more refreshing way to eat a burger. I usually share fries with my friends because they give you a huge cup of fries if you order a large. That'll be good for 3 adults! We either get the Cajun or regular fries. Both are good. They also offer free peanuts while you wait... Free appetizer! I like this place because the food tastes fresh and yummy! After a late night of boozing, a burger and fries from this spot is my perfect hangover remedy. (I'll switch between here and Habit Burger). My bf is from the east coast and is a loyal 5 Guys fan. Growing up in the bay area, I&O was what I initially compared this place to. We recently moved to Sunnyvale, live 2 miles away from both establishments, and I have to admit...my status? Converted. I have their sweet app on my phone, so alls I got to do is plug in my order and my linked credit card is charged. I can choose to pick it up 'now' or at a later time. Once I arrive at 5 Guys, I can go straight to the pick up line, tell them my name, and they'll make my fries fresh, done in 2 minutes. Huge plus when I'm pressed for time. Cajun fries are on point. Has a nice kick. Definitely recommend trying it. Although whenever I dine in, I'm always wishing that I had ranch to dip those bad boys in :/ My burger has always been juicy, with all my toppings piled in perfectly. I visited a different location months before and ordered grilled onions, but they half-assed the grilling part unfortunately. Personally not a big fan of raw onions in my burger. Granted I was (way too) hung over and sleep deprived to walk my ass up to the very busy counter and request a new burger. I did order the bacon dog once--very yummy. Not sure what the big deal is. It is definitely not as good as In N Out or the Counter. I should have known the minute I read "we serve our burgers well done." That was definitely a red flag. I would have asked them why but I didn't want anyone spitting in my food. The meat was dry and not very flavorful, but I did enjoy the free toppings like peppers and grilled onions. I'm from the east coast and we've had Five Guys for about 6-8 years now. and when I initially ate at Five Guys on the east coast, I was not that impressed. A bunch of people here started talking about it and I told myself "is this the same five guys that I've been to in NC?" A bunch of us ended up coming here and low and behold, it's the same Five Guys. Awesome service & great burgers! I loved how patient the cashier was in explaining the difference between the Little Cheeseburger(Single Beef Patty) and the Cheeseburger (Double Beef Patty). My boyfriend loves this place. The tastiness of the burgers makes it easier to acknowledge how much the grease is clogging up your arteries. Meat is really juicy and fresh, the quality I believe is superior to In-n-Out, but also feels doubly unhealthier. Staff is decent, I guess people really like the free peanuts but you'll get full on all the fat from the meat and fries. Want to eat lighter? Go to In-n-Out. Off Topic: I miss Squeezers. :( On Topic: Five Guys! One of my friends randomly told me about this place, so I gave it a search. I quickly found quite a massive following for this place's food. Loving a good burger, I decided to give them a "to-go" try. The fries. Wow. They still had their skin. They were atypically thick for a thin type french fry. I haven't tried the Cajun yet, but if the quality of the potatoes and that lovely taste you get from them cooking them in peanut oil is any indicator, I'm going to absolutely love these. The burger. Mmm... Nice. It came to me a perfect medium well. Still quite a bit of pink in there, but fully cooked. I like my burgers medium rare, yes I know I'm a old, inbred fatass, but that's just the way I like them cooked. Anyway... it wasn't really seasoned, but I'd much rather have this real meat burger than the meat-ish products used by other chains. The bun was neither especially good nor bad. It was fresh and you could definitely tell. The condiment selection? Wow. Free? Really? Despite wanting to say "pile it all on", I just chose to add jalapenos. I'll be making other creations, but I do like being able to build my own burger as I like. (Geez, I really miss Squeezer's Big Squeeze). Even though I love my Double Double Animal Style, I'll have to give Five Guys something... I couldn't eat my whole burger, so I ate half of it later. The Five Guys burger tasted better cold to me. Very good burgers! It was my first time going ot a 5 Guys, and the guy at the cash register was very nice in explaining the general system of ordering, etc., there. Having the bags of peanuts there for customers to just fill up on, freely, was fun and yummy :) My boyfriend had the normal bacon cheeseburger (2 patties), while I had the Little bacon cheeseburger (1 patty). You can't go wrong with bacon. And I love how you can choose whatever and however many toppings with your burger as you like! We also shared ONE order of cajun fries.. which were actually a LOT! Pretty good burger! They serve 100% ground beef with a hint of seasoning. You can order either a little burger or a regular burger. The only difference is you get an extra patty on the regular burger. You can choose your toppings from a list or go "all the way". It does get pretty crowded and loud. I'm not rating the food. It's 5 Guys... if you don't know what it tastes like and you're looking for reviews on food... it's delicious. So delicious that I still go despite my closest location by far having the worst customer service ever. Today was the worst of all my customer service experiences here. I called in while I was at work (10 min away). As soon as they answered the girl on the phone said "can you please hold for one sec?"... of course, I said "sure." I was on hold all the way until I drove there, got out, walked to the cash registered and order (I hung up there). Ten minutes of being on hold. I get to the restaurant (still on hold) expecting it to be bursting with people. Nope. No line. Walked straight up to the front and they asked what I would like. Ok... but maybe they were short handed right? There were only two people when I walked in... Nope! In the back there were THREE other people. When the door swung open I could see them just sitting in a little office area talking. I of course asked for the manager... Talked to the associate manger and a director. Both just apologized and basically said "my bad" without actually caring. Anyways. This probably won't sway anyone's decision on going here... If you want 5 Guys burgers, you get 5 Guys burgers. While I haven't gone back to Five Guys (and I'd actually meant to review the Mountain View, not Sunnyvale location, but the Camino Real address had thrown me), I'd like to note their commitment to customer satisfaction and quality. I received a response to my former Yelp review from the manager, who wanted to look into making sure their fries were consistent and that their customer service was top-notch. This was in the email: "Thank you for your feedback regarding our fries at our Mountain View location. I have instructed the GM to review our fry cooking procedures with his crew and continue to calibrate both the employees and the product every chance he gets. Let me start by saying I don't eat burgers unless it's from In N' Out. I am picky about my red meat, an even pickier about my burgers. I don't do In N' Out to-go either because it doesn't taste the same as dining in. This review is being written for two reasons: 1) to compare In N' Out with Five Guys as everyone seems to do, 2) to compare Five Guys locations. The young lady at the cashier who was bubbly and sweet was Cianna. I told her about my 1st experience at Five Guys a few months ago, the one around Almaden Expwy area, and that it was just o.k. but I was willing to give it another shot. My boyfriend told me the Sunnyvale location is busier and produces tastier meals than the Almaden Expwy location we went to for my first visit. Cianna was patient, listened to the story of my first experience, and vowed to make my 2nd visit a much better one. First visit to Almaden Expwy location: tables weren't that clean, kind of had to wipe it off ourselves. The cheese was not melted on my burger which is SUPER disappointing in general. And the water from the soda fountain machine tasted terrible. Please use a stronger filter or something. Second visit to Sunnyvale location: Cheese still not melted on burger. Soda tastes good, not watered down or anything. They get an "A" for customer service because MY particular visit and encounter with Cianna and her team that day was attentive. But still, the bun at Five Guys just sucks. It doesn't hold up well to all the ingredients, especially if you order your burger "all the way," meaning all the extra toppings on the board stacked on. The last few bites of my burger are messy and falling apart, a huge reason why I don't consider Five Guys as my first choice when I want a burger. Skip the traditional sesame bun guys, because your fingers sink into it as you take each bite, and it's gummy with its bread all flattening as you eat. In N' Out ALWAYS takes GOLD when I want a quick and cheap meal that doesn't break the bank and is consistent in quality almost every single time. The cajun fries are delicious at FG and that's where they have their leg up over In N' Out. They hook it up when you order the "little fry" but their choice of sauces are boring. In N' Out and their "spread" gives your burger and your fries that extra something special you were looking for. In this day and age, simply offering regular ketchup and mustard just don't cut it in my book. How about 2-3 exciting sauce combinations offered that people can self-serve and dip their fries into? And please melt your cheese...if I wanted raw, unmelted cheese I would ask for it...also looks like processed cheese like Kraft singles quality, instead of a good piece of cheddar like Tillamook or something. When you order "animal style fries" at In N' Out, you can see the thick cut piece of real cheese that gets put on top and melted down. Five Guys, please don't cheat me on my cheese with that fake looking stuff. The patty is juicy, I'll give them that, but overall, it's not some super exciting burger I crave, as I do In N' Out burgers. Bottom line, In N' Out burger + Five Guys cajun fries = best burger and fries meal, hahaha! If I went back to Five Guys it would be to Sunnyvale location, not Almaden, and would look forward to Cianna as my cashier again. At the end of my meal she even caught me before I left the door and checked in on how my meal was. I gave her the complete 411 and she thanked me for my feedback. i want to like five guys. i really do. after coming here for the 4th time and being disappointed for the 4th time, i think i have to finally give up trying to like this place. i love burgers, and five guys is the kind of place i like to love burgers. they have free peanuts, you can customize your burger with a wide array of toppings, and the price is reasonable. however, the burger patty just seems to lack flavor. the toppings can help overcome this, but the crux of the problem is that the meat itself lacks the burgerness that is captured so well in other bay area burger places such as godfathers or flavor (on the coast). for other chains, i would easily go to in-n-out or habit before five guys. read more

I'm not a meat eater, so I can't speak to the quality of their burgers, but I can say I liked their grilled cheese and fries. I took it easy on the fixings, even though you can select a number of them at no additional charge. Unlike In-N-Out, their buns were flipped inside out and buttered, which is more traditional. I have to say I'm probably always going to be an In n Out fan. I really wanted Five Guys to wow me but it just wasn't there. The service was great, the place is really clean, but the food was mediocre. I really love burgers, and I couldn't help but wish I had gotten In n Out instead. I had gotten the little bacon burger. It was alright, but I only ate half. It's a pretty standard burger. Maybe if I had gotten the bacon cheeseburger I would've liked it better. I also had some cajun fries. I ordered the hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, and jalapeno peppers. What I like about this place is that all the toppings are free, so you can customize however you like. Taste-wise, the burger was just okay, nothing special. I went to Five Guys for the first time yesterday on a whim. I was a bit nervous after reading the negative reviews but I banked on probably liking it so I gave it a try. I went on Jan. 1st, so since it was a holiday I wasn't sure if it would be busy or not. The line was long but it went very fast. Luckily I looked up the menu online so I already knew what I wanted (I am a control freak so I like to know what I'm getting myself into!). I got a little bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, cajun fries and a regular drink and it came to $12 something. Somewhat pricey, but it was worth it. I think my sister and I should have shared fries because we both got regular size fries and there were soooo much! Don't let the little white cup they put the fries in fool you, they fill the bag with fries too! My burger was really good. I'm surprised I was able to finish it all. There wasn't much "little" about that burger! The place gets packed so I thought we would have to eat our food in the car but a table was open by the door so we took it. There is not much room for people to stand around to wait for their order to come up so people kind of crowded around where we were sitting which was a bit annoying since I felt boxed in. Overall I really liked Five Guys. A lof of people compare it to In & Out and I don't think it's a fair comparison. If anything I would compare it to Jefferey's Hamburgers. I personally kind of liked Five Guys better than In and Out and maybe it's because I'm getting a bit tired of In and Out, plus I love bacon and you can't get bacon at In and Out :( I will go back to Five Guys. read more

I'm not sure how it would do standing alone, but combined with the 20 different toppings available you can really build it to your taste. I'm guessing most are comparing Five Guys to In-N-Out, so here is my side by side comparison... THE PATTY Five Guys: Well done, thick, but juicy and falls apart in your mouth. In-N-Out: Well done, thin, usually dry, but flavorful THE BUN Five Guys: Basic sesame seed bun. Usually mashed up with the foil they put around the whole burger. In-N-Out: Nice airy bun. Holds together throughout the meal. THE OPTIONS: Five Guys: Options galore! From sauces to toppings there are too many combinations to list. A few notable toppings include, BACON, JALAPENO, GRILLED ONIONS, MUSHROOMS!! In-N-Out: Basics or Animals Style. I usually go with the Animal Style with the sliced chilies =) THE FRIES Five Guys: Regular or Cajun. Def go with the Cajun. They pile on the fries and pour a generous heap into the bag! =) In-N-Out: Fresh cut! Terrible in my opinion. Look out In-n-Out Burger some serious competition has come to town and it's quickly winning over your customer base! This place was hopping!! It was so crowded, there was a constant pack of customers waiting for seating to open up. At Five Guys, you have the option to order a "Little" burger or select a regular size. I can tell you from personal experience that the "little" burger ain't so little!!. The burgers come in plain, cheese or bacon cheese. Once you've selected your option, there's a pretty delicious topping list to work from in dressing that burger. Tomato, lettuce, grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeno, green peppers BBQ sauce and all the classic condiments are there and you can have however many of you want ---at no extra charge!! The burgers are juicy and delicious and the buns are fresh and soft. If you decide you want some fries, better bring a friend to help you polish them off! The portions are generous here! My lunch pal and I could not finish the order of Cajun fries we shared, perhaps we should have made it a lunch trio! Five Guys also offers peanuts in the shell for free --- you can have a basket of them at your table. You can serve yourself from the crates of peanuts near the door. The burger was really juicy & tasty, but the problem is I had to pay each of the 5 guys $2 a piece for a burger ($10 for those that can't do math) and fries I could have gone to a nice restaurant for. For fast food comparison sake, it's really good, and dare I say it - BETTER than In-n-Out. I ordered a double cheeseburger with extra grilled mushrooms, ketchup, hot sauce, and tomatoes. That perfect blend of mushrooms and tangy sauces and the meat's juices made it perfect. I'm pretty sure my arteries are now clogged though. The burger was average sized though, could have been a bit larger. The cajun fries were bland. I needed extra paprika and hot sauce to make them decent. Don't get them, overpriced too at $5 for a large. My friend ordered the bacon wrapped hot dog with all the fixings and it was tasty. A polish sausage and crispy bacon wrapped around it. How could you go wrong? I'd give this place a 5 star if the burger was $3. With fries thrown in I could have used the money to go to a burger restaurant instead. What's there not to love about this place? In an area with tons of burger joints, Five guys has definitely made an impact. I'm not going to make an comparisons to other places because I LOVE THEM ALL equally. After hearing so much about Five Guys, I finally had the chance to try it. I really like In 'n Out, so I was wondering how they compare. I tried the regular cheeseburger with the works and jalapenos, regular fries, and a drink. Everything is a la carte, so it came out to be about $11. Since I went around 12, the place was packed and there were about 15 orders ahead of mine, so it took awhile. After taking the to-go order home, I tried the burger. It was huge and pretty good. Regardless of all the toppings, the bun doesn't hold it together well. It wasn't toasted either, which I didn't appreciated. The fries were just awful. They give you a lot, but doesn't mean they tasted good. Unless you like fries that are soggy and limp you won't like the fries either. Although I don't like In 'n Out's fries either the price is so much better. So bottom line for me is In 'n Out because it's about half the price and taste just as good, if not better. read more

This was my first time ever eating at a Five Guys place. It was good but nothing to rave about. They need to put some spices on the meat or adopt a special sauce to put on the bun because even with all the fixins, it all tasted like something I'd cook at home. When I eat out, I look for stuff to eat that isn't typical foods I'd eat at home, hence the reason why I'm eating out. The fries were crunchy and hot. I asked for the cajun spice to try on the side and that was okay but I wouldn't want that all over all my fries. The meat seemed loosely packed together but I like that it was more cooked like it should be. My In and Out burgers always seem too pink in those too-thin patties which I don't really feel comfortable consuming. It was a very noisy atmosphere and the ambiance and color scheme was too similar to In and Out and not very inviting. The peanut thing seemed an awkward offering, but okay. I do like all of the topping choices and the easy to read menu. I would go back but I ain't fallin' in love. At least not yet.... read more

Now I've read the reviews and I think this is going to come down to one thing. Are you a big fan of In & Out? I grew up on the east coast and near where Five Guys got their start so I am inclined to go with my home town team - Five Guys. If however your are a I&O fan then you have a 50/50 chance of being converted. It isn't a knockoff of In &Out as some have suggested. I've eaten several times at In& Out and don't see the resemblance other than in decor. The burgers are made fresh and are always juicy and hot. I've honestly never had a bad burger here and I have eaten at Five Guys all over the country as I travel for work. I was very excited to see they were in California too. The toppings (I stick with Lettuce, Tomato, Grilled Onions, and Mayo) are always plentiful. As for fries - those are a bit greasy but good and always cooked fresh and hot. They will spot your bag with grease so watch out. I don't order fries unless I'm with someone else because a small will feed two to three people. This is a straight up American Burger that isn't pretending to be anything but a humble hamburger. It is nice to see a place that basically does one thing well and sticks to it. read more

Many may disagree, but I think I still prefer In-N-Out! Tons of people here, service was pretty fast. After a long day at work, I stopped here to pick up food for the family. I usually come to this location at least 3-4 times a month. The person taking the order is always pleasant and accommodating. We always order the burgers or hot dogs and have never been disappointed. There is so many toppings you can add and most are free. Their French fries are thick and you can choose to have them with or without their special seasoning. Food is always consistent and have been very pleased. Great service and good food! read more
