Came to this town for a friend's bachelorette party....we thought this would be a good place because reservation was packed for a Sat night. Restaurant is located right in the middle of the town, plenty of parking in the back. When we arrived at 9pm, the place is packed. The group shared several appetizers together, all were good. Since it was our first night in Maine, everyone except for one ordered the $40 lobster. Hands down, best lobster we've had anywhere and anywhere since (we stayed a few more days and none can compete with this). The meat was so fresh, sweet, tender (melt in your mouth), yum!!! The one person who ordered pasta, also like her dish. Desserts were good, but not memorable. We stayed till about closing time(midnight). I don't understand all of the hype? The clam chowder was very good with lits of bacon flavor. The bread served at the table was very boring , not very crusty and served cold. The papradelle with wild boar ragu was just ok, I have had it better elsewhere, and was served only warm, it sat out for awhile before it was brought to the table. The highlight of the meal was the blueberry crustada with a yummy ice cream. The waiter (joshua)did nit really sem that interested in being there at all, kind of aloof and lack luster. Laarv spends a lot of time in Ogunquit with her companion and when she's looking for a great meal at a reasonable price she chooses Five-O. Inside tip from Laarv - sit in the bar area and take advantage of a cocktail and the bar menu pricing - you can always order off the main menu as well. The staff is very nice and welcoming. We were a group of 6 on labor day weekend. We needed to change our ressie but they were fully booked later that evening. The awesome hostess kept in touch with me all day letting me know she was working to accommodate us. So happy she was able to make it work! Best meal we had in Ogunquit. Our server Stacy was fabulous - so passionate and knowledgeable about food and the menu. Everything we had was great. My boyfriend and i shared the linguine with vongole and the lobster special which was stuffed with corn and crab. Scrumptious. All of our friends loved their meals as well. Good quality food with reasonably attentive service despite the fact that the restaurant was obviously slammed. My only complaint is the noise volume is intense. There is nothing in the restaurant that absorbs sound so you can hear the corner table's conversation about as well as your own. My fiancé and I came over here at the recommendation of a couple that was staying at our bed-and-breakfast and we certainly were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the drinks were perfect and the atmosphere is outstanding. If you happen to be in Ogunquit please do yourself a favor and stop by five-O. I especially loved the little bar bites that they had for the beginning of the meal. It's always so fun to get to try some different flavors. read more

Holy moley deliciousness! Seriously the best food I've had in Ogunquit and food in Ogunquit is so delicious---its really a complement. I went very early on a Saturday night in August without reservations but they took us right away. Everything we had was amazing from the soup to the entre and even had dessert (because everything else had been so tasty, I could not imagine passing up the opportunity). I had the gnocchi (gnocchi, braised wild boar, parsnips, carrots, onions, rosemary), hubby had the Bolognese (Pork, beef, veal, pomodoro, tagliatelle). It was such a great meal! I am writing this months later but it is one of those meal you just remember and dream about! read more

Disappointed! First time here eating here, and our last time going out to eat before leaving vacation... Food was not good. There were 2 bar tenders working, we sat at the bar, and we were waited on by the bar tender who was not very friendly, to us anyway, no personality, and really had no expression on his face. How about a smile or something that lets us know you're happy to have us there? The other bar tender had waited on us when we stopped in a few days prior for drinks only. He was super friendly and talkative. We started off with the mussels. Awful. Super sandy, almost every bite we took there were small pieces of broken shells in the broth the mussel was sitting in, and they were not cleaned very well as most of them had beards still on. Next we ordered our meals, a fish sandwich and the linguini and clams. Terrible. The fish sandwich tasted like I was eating a goldenfinger, you know, the chicken finger from a chinese restaraunt, and the linguini and clams was overly salted... not appetizing. Sadly, we will not not be going back here . Ogunquit is one of my favorite places to visit in maine, next time we will stick to what we know, the Front Porch and MC Perkins! read more

My son and I visited here last Thursday night at the recommendation of a local. We arrived around 9:10pm and was told by the bartender that the kitchen closed at 9pm.....on a Thursday night??? I was disappointed, and we were about to leave when she told us that the kitchen could accommodate us. We shared the gnocchi and pasta bolognese; the first was served room-temperature and was forgettable, but the bolognese was hot and much better. We asked for bread but was told that the kitchen had run out. (??!!??) So why give this place 3 stars, instead of 2? Because our server was the bartender, and she came and spoke with us and made us feel welcome. She couldn't have been nicer, and we wish her well on her primary nursing career! Just went to this restaurant on Saturday night. The drinks were great, but the food was probably the worst food I've ever had. I ordered lobster linguini and it wasn't zesty or lemony like a scampi and it wasn't like a creamy seafood pasta dish either. It was a terrible combination of flavors with corn thrown the mix. You pay $30 for basically a plate of bad pasta. There was maybe 1/8 of a lobster tail in the meal. I'm from the north shore and we are blessed with amazing restaurants so I didn't have high hopes for Maine, but at a place where lobster is readily available it was very overpriced and I could not believe the taste. My boyfriend even tried it and said if he had known it tasted that bad when I began eating it he would have had me send it back. He was as shocked. I had to eat most of his fries just to get my dinner down. We will not be eating here again. read more

We made a reservation for tonight at 5:30. We arrived at 5:15 to a mostly empty restaurant. While we waited at the host stand, the bartender and a waiter looked our way, but never greeted us. After 10 minutes of waiting we left. A "be with you in a moment!" or a friendly smile would have sufficed, but we instead got the feeling that we weren't welcome. When we got back to the car, we called the restaurant to cancel our reservation. We mentioned that we had waited at the host stand and were never assisted, and the man on the phone snarkily said "the hostess came back right after you left," which confirms that he saw us and decided to let us walk out the door instead of assist us. Terribly let down. We frequent Ogunquit often and will never give Five-O our business. read more

We went up to Ogunquit for a nice weekend away from Boston and we made reservation for dinner. They were very helpful over the phone and provide us a great time and table!!! Love the Pan Seared Cod and the appetizers were amazing as well. Our waitress Dina Holmes, was very cordial and help full. Her suggestions were spot on. We ate indoors and they had a good setup given COVID precautions. It actually made it a bit quieter which we enjoyed. I was disappointed that my server questioned my choice of cocktail which was Bee's Knees, apparently not well known here. So I opted for a blueberry martini which was a good alternative. We shared an arugula salad which was delicious with goat cheese and figs. I had the half portion beef sago, which was braised beef and light gnocchi in a rich red sauce....fabulous! My husband had the grilled swordfish with heirloom tomatoes....outstanding! We topped off the meal with lemon olive oil cake....so yummy! This is the one dining spot in Ogunquit that not only doesn't disappoint but always exceeds all expectations. The kindness and hospitality of Gary and his staff always makes you feel welcome. There's nothing that means more than showing up over and over again and being made to feel like it matters that you've walked in the door. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the cuisine is the best you'll find in Ogunquit. From the smaller bites to the entrees to the list of cocktails and wines... everything is beautifully prepared and presented and each and every mouthful satisfying delicious. This restaurant was recommended to us by our motel manager when we asked who makes the best clam chowder. We were not disappointed. The bowl was high rather than flat so the chowder stayed warm longer. There was more tender clams in this chowder than we have ever experienced. The lettuce salad was very good and the coconut martini was a real treat. Leslie, our server was helped out by a variety of help from others. We will certainly return. read more

My husband and I are celebrating our 30th year anniversary at this restaurant. To my dismay our experience was terrible. I had gotten the steak that was so overcooked that the outside was so charred and the meat was barely edible as it was so tough. Lastly my daughter had put her credit card on file with tip included but they failed to mention this and took extra tip that was not deserved. I would not recommend this place. read more

Absolutely delightful on all fronts! I planned a surprise dinner for my parents birthdays here. The restaurant was perfect. we had delicious, unique dishes - i had escargot to start followed by strozzapretti (oxtail ragu over homemade pasta). They were also accommodating in allowing my two younger cousins to make a more kid-friendly dish of roast veggies and pasta Alfredo which was wonderful and my uncle's cioppino was to die for! This small and cozy restaurant is a great place to enjoy a fantastic meal and delicious cocktails. It's a great place to go for a romantic meal also. The "small plates to share" at the top of the menu is a great way to start your meal, and it allows you to get to experience a variety of tasty dishes. This place touts itself as "sophisticated with high style." I can't say I saw any evidence of that during my visit this week. For starters, nothing sophisticated or stylish about the room. Generally comfortable, but plain, with cheap stemware, cutlery, and dishes (very stylish or sophisticated in any way). Next, the wine by the glass selections are very sub-par, and the wine menu is weak. Overall, the service was efficient, but the server generally not attentive. Again, I would expect more professional service in a sophisticated place of high style. Once the dinner was served, the server did not come back to check to see if everything was okay (a basic, even in a diner). Food was good, but uninspiring. Linguini and clams featured a very watery and salty clam sauce. Bolognese was very bland. None of the starters, appetizers, dinners, or deserts are close to what I'd call sophisticated. Maybe this passes for sophisticated and high style in this neck of the woods (hmm...a theme is emerging). Meh, don't bother. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! We had a family reunion and rented a cottage in York Beach. We decided that the entire family would be having one dinner out since there were 11 adults and 5 children ranging in age from 3 - 8 years old. Prior to coming to this restaurant, we called and asked if they could accommodate a party this large. The woman on the phone told us they could accommodate the party but we would have to be seated outside on the patio. She also stated that there was a children's menu. We were all excited to go to dinner and have this last dinner together before some of the family had to go home to Florida and Michigan. When we arrived, the valet was wonderful. From then on it went downhill. We were seated and there were not enough tables. They rearranged some tables and put a round table at the end for the children. Because there were not enough tables, two of the adults had to sit at the children's table, thereby separating them from the other adults! When we were all finally situated, we were given water and menus. There was no children's menu. We were told that all they had for children was mac and cheese or a burger from the bar. Our waiter OSCAR was INCREDIBLE! He did a FANTASTIC job! We asked if we could just get a pizza from the restaurant next door JUST for the kids. There would still be 11 adult entrees ordered. Our waiter wanted to do anything and everything to assist us in the dilemma with the kids. Normally, we would never request such thing, but the menu just didn't have entrees the kids would eat, and rather than get up and leave, we asked about this option. Oscar actually went and picked up the pizza for the kids!!!! In our opinion, he was providing OUTSTANDING service! WE LOVED HIM! Unfortunately, he was admonished for doing this. A waitress came out to assist in the drink orders. She was extremely angry at Oscar and didn't do anything to hide it. It was SO awkward and UNCOMFORTABLE for everyone at the table. We just wanted to make sure he wasn't in any kind of trouble for providing us with outstanding service. The waitress actually told us to "stop talking about it"!!!! My brother who had traveled from Michigan decided he didn't even want to order an entrée because he was so disgusted by her behavior. As far as the food went, I asked most people at the party. For the most part, the consensus was very small portions of average quality for a hefty price. I ordered the steak frites which came in very large chunks, instead of being cut thin on an angle, which made it tough and chewy. The frites were matchstick french fries that amounted to a pile of potato sticks you can buy in the snack section of the supermarket. The only thing that seemed to be a hit was the drinks. The bathroom was up a set of stairs. I am handicapped with a walker and there was no handicapped access. When I had to use the restroom, it required someone else from the dinner party excusing themselves from the table to come and carry my walker up the stairs. The bathroom was tiny and I barely fit in there with my walker. Again, no handicapped access. This is 2018, I think that it's time to get with the program. Handicapped guests go out to dinner all the time and their money is as good as a healthy person's. We would never ever go back to this restaurant again. I just hope Oscar is okay because he is a TOP NOTCH server and would be an asset to ANY restaurant! read more

Went here for a nice dinner out with my husband, and the atmosphere was great! We were anxious to try it, as the head chef at Five-O used to work at our favorite, now-closed, restaurant in Portsmouth, NH. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and told us about the specials when we were ordering drinks. Neither of us ordered the soup of the day, but we did overhear the waitstaff telling others that the soup was changed, because the chef wasn't happy with how it came out. We were impressed by the decision. The bread was delicious (Gorgonzola butter, who knew??), and I ordered the clam chowder for an appetizer. They accommodated my husbands request to get a side of mushroom risotto as an appetizer. I was disappointed with the chowder; a coastal town should have access to amazing clams, and the menu said they are local, but they were the texture of canned clams. The rest of the chowder was good, though a bit salty. My husband loved his risotto, though! I had the gnocchi for dinner, which was really tasty, and my husband had orecchiette, which was also delicious. We didn't try anything for dessert, as we were so full! This is my very first review on yelp.. But I thought the service and accommodations at Five-O were noteworthy. My boyfriend and I decided to go to Five-O after a last minute recommendation by a friend. We had no reservation and no idea what kind of restaurant it was (we were dressed like we had just driven for hours through traffic). It was obviously a very busy Saturday night on a holiday weekend and the place was packed. Despite our lack of planning, our hostess greeted us warmly and discussed how to seat us with her manager. They told us that they had a table open but that it had a reservation at 8 (it was 6:40). We ordered promptly and was served promptly (2 glasses of wine, a delicious cocktail, 3 small plates, an appetizer salad and 2 entrees cost us about $100 without tip.. I think that's pretty reasonable for a higher end meal). When our entrees, our server returned and asked us graciously if we would like dessert. It was 7:55 by this point and we knew they needed the table cleared so we told her we would settle up the bill and go sit at the bar. She thanked us.. But not once during our dinner did she make us feel rushed. When we went to the bar, the manager had cleared a bar table for us to finish our cocktails and order dessert. When we went to pay for the dessert, the bartender informed us that the dessert and drinks were on the house. My husband and I were in Ogunquit for the night and were looking forward to a nice meal at Five-0. We should have looked elsewhere. Although we had read some negative reviews about the restaurant we decided to give it a shot, having had a good experience there several years ago. What a mistake! We decided to share two of the little plates to start off our meal. We chose the delicious-sounding gorgonzola stuffed figs and the arancini with whipped chevre. The figs arrived looking less than appetizing. The prosciutto wrapped around them looked dried out and in fact was quite leathery. What should have been a savory bite-sized treat was truly awful. The arancini were flavorless and the chevre accompaniment added nothing to the dish. After our disappointing appetizers we almost left the restaurant (and in hindsight we should have), but we decided to try our luck with the entrees. While still deciding what to order for our main course, our server delivered some bread and olive oil to our table. The bread was stale and inedible. My husband nicely let the server know that the bread was very stale. We couldn't have been more shocked by her response. She acknowledged that she knew it was stale and had even spoken to the chef about it. She took away the bread and we weren't offered more. I chose the steak frites for my entree while my husband ordered the pork short ribs. When the entrees arrived, I couldn't even see the steak due to the enormous mound of onion strings and potatoes on top of it. Once I dug through the pile and found the steak, it was cooked nowhere near medium as I had requested. I asked the server to have it cooked some more and she happily did so. When I received it back, it was still too rare. At this point I didn't even want it anymore so I just ate the onions and fries. My husband's pork short ribs were just o.k All in all, our experience was very poor. Our server was attentive and friendly, but this did not make up for the terrible food. Although most tables were occupied at Five-0, I cannot imagine that the restaurant will continue to succeed if more diners have experiences similar to ours. It goes without saying that a return visit is not in our future plans. read more
