Nice bake shop, but not fantastic! Had to join the line early in the morning to grab some of the goodies this bakery has to offer. I bought a cinnamon bun, apricot scone, chocolate almond croissant, apple pie and demi baguette. The croissant and the bun were super crunchy and flaky. I felt the croissant was slightly over baked. What can I say? Five Points has spoiled other bakeries for me. Amazing coffee, great pastries, and super friendly staff. Picked these up for my parents who live in the south hills, and my mom said she hasn't had croissants this good since she lived in France. Also, free street parking is never a bad thing. Five Points is a gem of a bakery on the edge of Squirrel Hill. I visited about noon on a Saturday to pick up some delicious croissants... which is a bit late if you want your pick of tasty baked goods, namely, their amazing almond croissants. (My first visit to Five Points came on a weekend, and I had my fill of almond croissants. I later stopped by during the week and sadly found out that they only make their fancy almond and chocolate croissants on the weekend, as a word of warning.) As they were out of almond croissants, I settled for the next best thing, almond chocolate croissants. I also grabbed some chocolate croissants, a cinnamon roll, and a baguette for brunch with my family. The croissants themselves are incredibly flaky and buttery. Throw in almonds and/or chocolate and you are taken to another level. There is a sizable amount of chocolate used in any chocolate croissant, and it is wonderful; not too sweet, either. Where this place hits it out of the park is the almond topping and creme as it is absolutely top tier. The almond chocolate croissant is great, but I kind of prefer to have an almond or a chocolate croissant separately rather than a mash-up... so I will have to get out of bed a little earlier the next time. The baguette was very good, and is reasonably priced at $3. I tried the French loaf in the past, which led to a lot of dynamite ham and cheese sandwiches. The shop is small (but they will be expanding in the near future) and inviting, and the staff is always very friendly. If you want some awesome baked goods, this is your spot. This place is fantastic. I stop there almost every week for sandwiches, chai, and a few pastries.

So so so so so so good. I compared this to our local bakery in Indianapolis and the quality/expectations were far succeeded. I went with a vegan chocolate chip cookie, the regular chocolate chip cookie, the olive bread loaf, and the chocolate rye cookie. All of the things were incredible and surprisingly, I think I enjoyed the vegan cookie more than the original. I'm used to my go-to browned butter, and I think I was missing that depth of nutty flavor. Regardless, it was still tasty. Prices weren't horrible for a local, high-quality bakery. The options were also plentiful for a Thursday afternoon. And the server was very friendly and not so bad on the eyes. Great spot - highly recommend. read more

First Impressions (will post a follow up when I visit again): We (my mother and I) traveled from near the Pittsburgh airport to this bakeshop to give it a try - their website promised bread and pastries baked in the true European spirit (i.e., baked to a delightful dark brown and crispy state). My German family is always seeking this kind of bakery. Mind you, a piece of soft Wonder bread never passed the lips of my 99 year old grandmother who came to this country in 1950. We went on a Wednesday, near 11:30am. Parking: Found a spot near the shop on the opposite side of the street quite easily. Busy?: Only a few customers in line ahead of me. Ambience/Seating: The empty front part of the store looked messy and quite like a storage area. I think pre-COVID it used to have seating there, maybe? It looked kind of sad and unkempt and unwelcoming. I wish they would put the tables/chairs back in that area so it would look much more inviting. There were a few high stools against the front window countertop, but I wouldn't have guessed that they were available for use since that whole section just looked disheveled and unused. I wasn't aware that they had tables/chairs near the rear of the store until someone pointed it out. It's kind of a cool area back there with exposed brick walls and seating for 20-ish. My mother and I were 2 of 7 patrons relaxing there with our goodies. A feast for my eyes: The first thing you notice when you walk in is the glorious lack of color at the counter. Everything was brown....deliciously, invitingly, brown, brown, brown...meaning that everything was baked to dark perfection! No light, half-baked loaves of anything here! Grandma would have loved it!! The well-baked, dark brown breads and baguettes looked AMAZING! And the croissants of each variety (plain, chocolate, and hazelnut) ...same...dark brown and crusty and Oooooo. Staff: Absolutely friendly, welcoming and helpful! What a delight these days! 2 terminals to ring patrons up quickly. What we tried: Cinnamon Bun, Apple Tart/Danish, Plain Croissant, Olive Bread. If you like a doughy, dense cinnamon bun, go to Cinnabon. The swirled beauty of a pouf here was light an airy, with a lovely, thin crust of cinnamon sugar that gave just the right touch of cinnamon and sugar. The Apple Tart had a light schmear beneath the apples of, I think, a cinnamon cream cheese (?) and offered a delicately sweet note to the pastry. We really enjoyed those offerings with our midday coffee. Coffee was supposedly fresh but was quite strong, though not bitter. We wanted to try a ham and cheese croissant, but by 11:30a they were already sold out - was disappointed for that to be gone so early. Perhaps that is more of a breakfast item and the sandwiches are more for lunch? Speaking of sandwiches, I didn't see any prepared/displayed, so perhaps they are only made to order. Will def have to ask/try when we visit next time. By the time we were leaving at 12:15, we took the last Apple Tart as well. Given that this shop is open until 5-6pm most nights, I imagine the only items left for patrons coming in the later hours is bread to have with dinner. Likely that is by design. Was also disappointed to learn they only have the almond croissants on the weekends. Can't fault them for that, I guess, and it clearly states that on their website. The plain croissant is with my mother for her breakfast tomorrow, though I can tell you it certainly has to be airy given the featherlight weight of it. I had a toasted, buttered slice of the sourdough olive (kalamata) bread at home later in the same day. HEAVEN!!!! I didn't take any pics - they would not have looked any different than those already posted here. Overall, this is really a lovely spot with delightful fare made in the true European way. The pastries from Five Points are easily my favorite in the entire city. I love living with in walking distance, but I find myself stopping in for a cookie more than I should! I am so excited the new seating area is finally open. It's so spacious and beautiful with the exposed brick. Definitely one to add to your list of work from home spaces. I typically stop for my afternoon tea and cookie. A little hint if you miss the rush of chocolate chip cookies from the morning - the Vegan chocolate chip cookie actually has more chocolate chips in it! They also have a large selection of breads and some sandwich items if you're working over lunch. They're still doing take out orders right now! How have I not reviewed this place before? I've been going here for 7 years, longer than I've had a Yelp account. Strange location away from the Squirrel Hill commercial strip, but clearly it isn't doing them any harm (maybe the rent is lower). Anyhow, the breads are consistently delicious (albeit not quite "authentic"), and the pastries are tasty albeit buffy. They have both white loaves and sourdoughs. The French-style breads are a bit crustier and tangier than would really be traditional (comparing to, say, Le Gourmandine), but I think they're overall better-quality and have a nicer taste. The Finnish Rye isn't as dark as one would really see in Scandinavia, but is hard to fault when evaluating it on its own merits. Pastries: generally on the puffy and squishy side, could use more crunch, though I might be confounding them with eating them a day later. read more

Amazing little bakery in the neighborhood! There was a line out of the door from very early in the morning. Immediately, you get hit with the smell and warmth of freshly baked goods and bread when you walked into the store. They had a wide selection of baguettes and pastries, all at a very friendly price. Got the Chocolate Pecan and Cinnamon Scone and it was out of this world! Super buttery and crunchy around the edges. You get a little bit of the chocolate and pecan in every bite. I loved it! What can I say to add to the long list of stellar reviews of Five Points? I agree with it all - absolutely delicious and beautiful breads, cookies, and pastries in a very small, intimate, local shop. What could be better? I'll add that for the extremely high quality they deliver their prices weren't outrageous. I got an almond croissant that had about a pound of sweet filling inside for $4. It was topped like a cake with slices almonds and sugar. Seriously, this thing was dense and easily could feed two people for dessert. My girlfriend got a cream cheese and peach danish for $3, also huge and with a wonderful crispy but flaky crust. Everything they bake here is spectacular. I recently moved back to Pittsburgh from the artisan-bread-wonderland that is the Bay Area, and the stuff that Five Points Bakehouse makes can go toe to toe with Tartine or any of the other California heavyweights. The difference is, a croissant that costs $5 in California only costs you $3 here. Today I picked up a baguette, a loaf of raisin-walnut bread, 3 cookies, and 2 chocolate croissants, and paid $18 for the entire haul. Not Giant Eagle prices, but still extremely reasonable prices for the quality. Lastly, the people who run this place are kind and friendly. Love that Pittsburgh has a bakery like this read more

My weekly go-to for fresh baked bread and pastries -- cardamom buns, pumpkin muffins, and chocolate croissants are family favorites. Now that their indoor cafe space is open, I regularly add a few hours to my bakery run to get laptop work done while enjoying a snack and a cappuccino (as they're mostly a bakery, it's never been too hard to find a quiet seat). Came at 4 pm, they close at 5. Not much selection left. (I get it, reducing waste.) The mini chocolate pecan pie was delicious. Expresso based drinks close at 2 pm, not sure why, no explication given. The iced coffee was so strong it was undrinkable and went into the trash after a few sips. Staff member told us that they close at five, almost 45 minutes before 5 when we sat down, a bit "hurry up" like. Made it feel like they didn't want us to sit down. Highlights: An amazing addition to Squirrel Hill. Everything is great, but the croissants are stellar. Every time I buy a croissant from Five Points I can hear Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood (from Great British Baking Show) cooing about the perfect layers and laminations. These things are out of this world good - whether its the standard croissant (which is anything but standard), the savory croissants or the sweet croissants (my personal favorite is the almond). But if croissants aren't you thing (cuz you're crazy?), consider their pies or cookies or other pasty treats (my personal favorite is the raspberry Bostock). Our family also loves their wide range of breads - everything from baguettes to their Challah are wonderful. Here is my tip: Go early on a weekend morning. This morning we had fresh warm croissants with our breakfast (the fillings were still warm by the time we got them home). They were perfect! read more

If not for the long lines and my growing waist I would eat Five Points bread daily. They make melt in your mouth croissants, French baguette and a variety of breads tarts and cookies. They are a coffee bar, sell Print my local newspaper that I adore and should be bought on every visit. On this day I bought a tuna on a baguette and a tomato and mozzarella sandwich - reviewers note- they sell out so come at 10:30 or risk not getting any. Both were amazing. For the record I ate half of each and shared the other half with my mom. Because I have very little self control I also ate a mini mushroom quiche that never made it to the car. I love love LOVE this place. Whatever you order here, you cannot go wrong. I only wish their prices were a little lower so I could come here everyday! Most of their loaves of bread are ~$5 dollars and their pastries are $3-4. Their breads are absolutely amazing, crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and if you come in the morning they are still warm! I have found that they last for 2-3 days before getting hard, but they freeze quite well. I usually slice up half the loaf and keep the slices in the freezer to eat over the course of the week (just move them to the fridge the day before you want to eat them). Wow! The baked goods here are mouth watering! My husband and I made the 30 minute trip out to Five Points this morning after a tip came in from one of his coworkers - she said, "They have everything croissants." No need to say more, we're going! What a hidden gem! Five points has anything and everything - bread, cookies, croissants, everything you could want. I got a few breakfast pastries and a couple cookies to share. Everyone loved them. This is the best bakery in town! I used to go every weekend to buy a loaf of bread and a cookie (chocolate chip is my favorite, such a large satisfying cookie, eating it especially with some vanilla ice cream or milk), but then after spending so much money at this bakery for a year I felt poor and save up so I can do it again soon.. All of the bread is baked with a perfect crust and crumb. You cannot go wrong with any of them: ciabatta - holes so big you could fall into them; baguette - just buy their sandwiches and you'll never buy bread from anywhere else (or sandwich); everything else, just throw your money at them. Their coffee is very good too! The one thing I didn't like was their scone. To me, it needed more butter, to be flakier, but this could be a personal preference because although I didn't like the texture, the flavor was definitely there. I live an hour away but had a chance to stop in early on a Sunday morning and the place was packed! This isn't a French bakery, but this place stacks up against anyfrench bakery you can think of. This time around I had an amazing flakey chocolate croissant and a flakey cinnamon roll. They were both fresh, very generous in size, and they were both amazing! Five points is only five minutes away from the heart of East Liberty, and it is well worth the trip to get to the place. I suggest you try it some time, you won't be disappointed!! read more
