    Chicken and Mac
    Bri D.

Wow!!! The chicken and mac is everything! I got the hot chicken and it is so tasty with a great pairing of tasty fries, mac and cheese, and the sauce! I was curious to see if all the layers had flavor or if it would be bland. Not bland at all! Seasoning and love was put into this dish. I highly recommend trying this place out! I can't wait to try the chicken sandwich next time. Yum! Oh and huge portion too!

Excellent taste and quality! I was a bit shy to try them because I've tried similar chicken restaurants and their seasonings are always extra salty. I was pleasantly surprised to finally find a restaurant that seasons their chicken well and it's not salty! The cashier was also super friendly and sweet to us. I also want to mention that they serve "hand slaughtered" chicken upon request. Will definitely be back with our kids!

    Interior; kinda small

Finally got to try Five Star Chicken and omg, it was surprisingly good!!! The interior is quite small, but very clean. There is a parking lot, which is convenient. You can order online for pick up, at the kiosk, or at the counter. We got a variety of things to try that day. We ordered: - Kick'n Chicken Sandwich (hot) - Chick'n and Slaw Rice Bowl (hot) - Mac N Chicken Loaded Fries (hot) - Captain Crunch Milk Shake There are three spice levels: regular, mild, hot. I couldn't taste the heat much on the bowl and the fries, but the Kick'n Chicken Sandwich had a "kick" to it! It was pretty hot; but not spicyyy. I actually liked that type of heat. The chicken sandwich was crispy, juicy, and full of flavor! The heat level was perfect for me and I enjoyed the balance of the slaw. I was unsure about the mac and cheese and fries combination; especially since it's fast food mac and cheese and the idea of eating noodles with fries seemed kinda weird. However, it wasn't that bad! I think that was my bf's favorite lol. Next time though, I'd opt for just the mac and cheese (you can opt out of the fries!). The chicken and slaw rice bowl wasn't too bad either, but I think the slaw was a bit sweet and the rice soaked up all of its jucies, making it soggy. The captain crunch shake tastes exactly like you're eating cereal; milk and all! This establishment is halal friendly and even offers to hand slaughter your chicken, upon request. I came in not expecting too much, being a non-chain restaurant, but left extremely satisfied! Love how local this is to me and a great addition to the community! Definitely will be back!

We tried this place yesterday since it's a new spot in Richmond and I'm def a fan of Nashville chicken! The interior is small, clean and well lit. You have an option to order at the kiosk or the register and we opt for the kiosk. They have 3 spice level that is regular, mild and hot. I got the Mac n' Chicken with mild flavor I wasn't sure if the hot option would be too spicy for me but I wish I did because the mild did not have any kick whatsoever but other than that the flavor was there. The chicken was seasoned well, mac n cheese was okay and the fries was not crinkled as what they advertise on the menu other than that it was cooked well and crispy on the side. My BF got the Five Star Chicken combo with mild flavor and according to him his has a kick to it and the sandwich was flavorful and good size. You're able to customize your toppings for an extra charge and fountain drinks are $2.99 (doesn't come with the combo). Overall, this place is a much needed addition to Richmond's food palate. I'll try other options next time!

Habanero Sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese

My first time here and I was very indecisive.. I changed my order like 4 times and expected the waitress to get angry. She was so so patient and understanding, service off the bat 12/10. For food I ended up with the Habanero Chicken sandwich combo with mac, both were a solid 7. I would have preferred my sandwich to be less sauced, it got messy. My boyfriend got the garlic parm bowl, also a solid 7. This place is good but a bathroom would be nice or wet wipes to wipe your hands. Overall, not bad :)

Finally got the chance to check out Five Star since they recently opened. I ordered the kick'n chicken sandwich (spicy), mac and cheese fries topped with chicken, and a Fruity Pebble milkshake. Everything was really good. Service was fast and smooth with little to no wait time maybe because it was sunday. They have a nice, clean seating area inside if you'd like to dine in.

We ordered the regular sandwich and the hot honey chicken sandwich, and both were very good. The chicken was hot and crunchy, exactly what you want. The milkshakes were a fun bonus--I had the Fruity Pebbles milkshake, and it was a blast. Definitely a treat. Overall, a really solid experience, and I think we'll be back.

Came here recently after driving by it the last few weeks and wondering what it had to offer. While it's located on the bustling San Pablo Ave., 5 Star has a parking lot for customers to park at without having to rely on street parking. I ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Combo (with fries) at the kiosk when I entered but was greeted by workers as well. They checked in on me while I was waiting for my to go order and made sure I got what I ordered. There were plenty of tables inside and a chic aesthetic to the interior design. When I got home, I was able to try the sandwich and found myself impressed with the quality of the chicken! Although I ordered the spiciest level they offered, it wasn't spicy for me (then again, that's a personal issue since I have a higher tolerance). Fries were ok, but the chicken sandwich was definitely the star here.

The food was good. The customer service was excellent and the ambience was superb. I can say from the 3 piece combo tenders. Mild is not for a beginner, because it got some kick to it. All in all, I'd go back.

    Pamela S.

The chicken here is very tasty and well cooked. I definitely recommend a soda to cut the heaviness, but overall, I would come back again for the tenders. The sauces were all good, especially the ranch!! You have the option to dine in if you'd like and there is a small parking lot. Everyone was friendly and the food came out quick. Also, very well priced for the quality and quantity.

Seen this place on Facebook and finally got around to trying it. I'm happy I did the chicken did not disappoint. The tenders were very crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. Also the 5 star sandwich is amazing

We've lived in Hercules for over 30 years and are creatures of habit, so it was nice to venture the 10-minute drive to San Pablo. We were not impressed by the exterior strip mall building, but the interior of Mely's is very cute, homey, and clean. (I even peeked into the kitchen since the door was open.) I wanted pancakes, but got waffles instead since W ordered the blueberry buttermilk stack. We both had a side of eggs, his scrambled and mine sunny side up. The eggs were delish; mine in particular was perfectly cooked with slightly crunchy edges, a beautiful, silky, runny yolk, and no uncooked whites. The blueberry pancakes are so good! Of course they are huge and I ate some of them in addition to my waffle. We could have split just the pancakes and been perfectly happy. They cook berries inside the homemade batter and top them with a house-made blueberry compote. Maple syrup and soft butter on the side. The waffles are crispy outside with a light, airy, center, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. I had strawberries on the side (+$5 !!). Since I ate some of W's pancakes, we took half the waffles home. W had a drip coffee--no decalf available so I had the fresh-squeezed OJ. It was a large glass so I took half of that home, too. The coffee was nothing to rave about, but it was coffee. Service was friendly and efficient--there is only one cook and one server, and it seems several of us arrived at the same time on this Sunday morning. Overall a wonderful find that we will return to so we can explore more dishes. We saw omelets and Benedict's come out that looked amazing! Plus, I want to try the dinner menu, which also looked pretty amazing.

Both the fried and taters come very lightly salted, and there are salt packets you can grab to add to taste. The Mac and cheese has a nice smoky flavor from the bacon, and I appreciate that it comes in a to-go container. Casual spot with order and pick up at the counter. Nothing in particular to note about service, they were nice. Plenty of comfortable seating inside. My kids and I pulled off the freeway coming from Sacramento specifically to try Johnny Boi's today. I had seen several reviews on Instagram and they were all good which meant I had to give it a try.. We ordered four burgers, two smash burgers and two Fatboy burgers and two orders of tater tots one Oreo cookie shake and an ice cream cone. The total was a little over $70.. ouch! The first thing I thought while paying the bill was these better be some good burgers for that amount of money. The food was ready within a few minutes. I saw them frying the burgers fresh, which was great! I noticed there were tater tots sitting under the heat lamp when we placed our order....i hoped we wouldn't get those because they looked as if they had been sitting for a while. As luck would have it, we did indeed get those tater tots and as luck would also have it, they were indeed cold. Bummer - cause if you know me, you know I like my food fresh and hot! The burgers were just ok. They didn't have any seasoning and the smash sauce was a bit spicy. Even though I watched them put the meat on the grill which I thought was our burgers, the burgers came out just warm. The cheese was barely melted and the bun, although very soft was also cold. They gave us a small cup of ranch dressing and it was delicious!!! The last thing I got was a Soft serve ice cream cone. It reminded me of the ice cream cones that you get on a cruise ship. SOOOOOO GOOD!!! Overall, The kids rated them a 6/10. Not too bad, but I don't think we need to go back.

We started with the bread basket with compound butter, which was a great start. I ordered the Little Gem salad and the thick cut pork chop, while BB went with the salmon. Our server, Sheila, mentioned it was her first day as a waitress, and she did an amazing job -- attentive, kind, and confident throughout the experience. Unfortunately, the kitchen didn't quite match that same level during this visit. The pork chop was significantly undercooked and not safe to eat, so I wasn't able to finish it. The accompanying components -- including the polenta underneath and the warm mix of green beans, tomatoes, and arugula -- had good flavor, which made it a bit disappointing that the main protein missed the mark. Service overall was great, and I still appreciate the concept of giving culinary students a platform to showcase their skills. That said, proper cooking -- especially with pork -- is critical, and this is an area that needs attention. Overall, a mixed experience: strong service and a great concept, but the kitchen execution needs more consistency
