I used to love coming to this salon. Their quality of work and attitude has changed over the past year. I went in to get my nails done for a special occasion, and after not even one week 5 of my nails were chipped. To make matters worse, I went in to have it fixed and they were rude and claimed that they can't find a color to match the one on my nails, and I did not get them done there (which I obviously did). I ended up having to pay for a completely new no chip manicure because they basically called me a liar. Completely rude and unreasonable. Will not be returning to this salon again. What can I say... I come here about once a month, all the staff always remembers who I am. They know exactly what I want when I walk in. Super courteous and polite. They make coming here, absolute fun. On top of it, the owner came up with a bunch of new pedicures. Just had the icedancer. The price is perfect, the massage even better and my feet feel like heaven. I love Five Star. Michelle does an awesome job on my no chip and, even after cracking the nail across the nail bed (two different times), my no chip is still perfect. I know they changed management over the summer of 2015 and there have been a couple of changes but I have contributed to have the same positive experience each time. read more

PROS: -very nice decor -clean & tidy stations (they tuck away their supplies so each station is a clean surface) -lots of techs (probably 15 or so) -lots of pedicure chairs & nail stations (great place to come with a group, like a wedding party) -about a million different no-chip colors to choose from -they have a pedicure menu so you have options on your pedi service -next to a laundromat (so you can get your nails done while your clothes wash) -next to a bar (so your man has somewhere to go while he waits) -thinking of men...this is a very man friendly place. I see a guy come in for a mani OR pedi everytime I'm there CON: -i think they are probably one of the pricer nail salons in this area. and they charge extra for long nails (nails don't even have to be that long before the charge kicks in so be sure to ask) -parking can be a pain depending on the time of day -they will trash talk your nails if you were getting them done somewhere else (they aren't trying to insult you, they are insulting the other salon, but it still hurts my feelings cuz their MY nails) I've seen Davy and Michelle. I go to this nail salon whenever I'm in a rush to get them done and they do a good job. There are times when it gets super busy but the technicians still do a good job. Its one of the cheapest places to get a no chip done but for some reason, I find it that the nail polish does not last that long compared to the nail salon I normally would go to, hence the three stars. Update: it's barely been 2 weeks since I got my full set done and already the acrylic has lifted. I got them removed today as this can cause fungus. The guy at the other salon was so disgusted and appalled by the horrible job and said if I had waited any longer there would for sure be infection. This place is always busy, therefore, they rush their customers out the door and their proud to be fast. I get my nails done to relax and enjoy the services I am paying for... so being rushed out is definitely a thumbs down. Their prices are also on the higher end... each time I've been here I've paid for no chip mani and pedi.. both times my nails chipped within 2-3 days. I don't typically have the extra time to go back somewhere and complain and try to get my nails fixed. I live literally 2 minutes away which makes this location ideal, but no thank you for the terrible service. I don't mind paying the price, but I'd like to think my $100 mani/pedi would be work the price I pay, at this location, it is not worth it. I have been to Five Star Nails three times and I will NEVER go back. Each time I'd gone, I really felt rushed and that the staff wasn't all that friendly. However, my third visit last week was the charm. I sat down with the woman who I believe to be the manager. She is the one who always seems to be in charge, directs customers and staff where they need to be, basically barks at everyone who walks through the door and makes customers feel that she and her staff are doing all of us customers a HUGE favor by doing our nails! I noticed she had an attitude each time before but she never worked on me. I am able to now fully give you a review that will put her business approach, and therefore all the people who work for her, in perspective. I sat down with her and she got started on my acrylics, just regular ol' acrylics, new set as I had recently given my nails a break. She rushed through the process, as does every nail tech there, and then she got to the point where she had to file. She filed, held up my finger and asked if the very square shape was ok. I said "no, I'd like it a bit more rounder". She filed those two nails again, which were still completely squared off and I said , "just a little more round, please." She stopped what she was doing, threw the nail file towards me on the table and said, "you do it, you no like how I do it, you do it" and proceeded to stand up. I told her I didn't come to the salon do my own nails! She told me she "she needed a break" and walked back to the staff room! I could not believe my eyes or what she had just said to me. I had been very, very polite to her the entire time. Thank goodness I wasn't in a hurry to get anywhere or I would have been in a bad position. She still had a lot left to do on my nails so I couldn't exactly leave. I decided I could easily sit her out by reading my magazine and catching up on my email. Needless to say, I did not pick up a nail file:) I waited about 25 minutes and guess who reappeared? She sulked over to the table, said nothing and picked up where she left off, filing my nails. She was a total $&@@$ the entire rest of the process, seemed especially surprised when I did NOT add a tip (seriously?!) and never apologized for enormously rude and unprofessional behavior. Her work wasn't even that good! Apparently, i wasn't the only one having a bad experience during the hour I'd been there. As I sat at the drying station, there were two other women who were going off about the terrible customer service they'd received. The one lady had a mani/ pedi and had both of her daughters get a manicure . She was livid because the tech who did her daughter's nails only did one coat, instead of two and didn't do a top coat. When she asked the tech why her daughters didn't get the full service, she was told "I have no time to do a second coat". The lady paid for a regular mani and got half the work done ! My take on this place ....they have a lot of clients walking in cause they are cheap. They don't care how they treat you, have zero customer service skills, seriously, zero and treat you like crap. It feels like you're on a conveyor belt, just moved along as quickly as possible so they can get more people in the door and once they have you sitting down they, a: expect you to do your own work if you request a slightly different nail shape or b: they do half the work that you're paying full price for ALL while having the absolute WORST attitude possible. Do not go to this nail salon unless you love to be treated horribly and disrespected numerous times during your visit. Also, I have no doubt this place will eventually do themselves in, people won't put up with this crap forever. it's only a matter of time. read more

I had a full set last Sunday that in all right corners is coming up I have never had this issue. I went in to get it fixed and was told I could have 5 dollars off a fill I am no where near due for. Which would take my full set from 45 dollars to 60 dollars plus the tips. That is crazy they would not offer to fix my nails. I do hair for a living if you don't like your haircut I don't make you pay to achieve what you were looking for. In this case I am only looking to fix the service I have already paid for and was done poorly. I was excited when I arrived as they have a great color selection and everything looked clean but when the lady is super short hair started my cuticles on my feet she was agressive with them as I just had my feet done a couple of weeks ago. I let it go but the paraffin wax was very hot so be careful with that. Unsure what happen but another lady came and took over painting my toe nails. Then when the short hair lady started on my fingernail, she was sanding not only my nails but my fingertips. As she worked on my cuticles, she was even more aggressive and they started bleeding so I just ended my services. The manager tried to get the bleeding to stop and try to fit what was started but when I actually looked at my nails this lady had no clue what she was doing. I just said forget as now I have open cuts on 3 nail bed, no apology or anything and they wanted to charge me full mani and pedi. I said I dont even have anything on my nails and the manager said she fixed my nails because your staff can't cut nails correctly, finally they just charge me for the pedi. I wanted to like this place but even Alvina nails look sloppy as she had nail polish on several parts of her skin. It is probably the luck of the draw with who I got but the manager was mean and didn't make the situation any better.poor customer service. read more

On Thursday November 6 I went into this place to get my nails done. I was trying to grow my natural nails so I just wanted an acrylic overlay to keep them strong so they would'nt break while growing. The lady who did my nails was nice, but she recommended I do the gel overlay which was more then the acrylic, @ $40. She said it would look better and last longer..... My nails started breaking off and chipping that VERY same day. Not to say i was doing any work, they just were breaking. I did'nt bother going back because I know their customer service is real crappy and the manager Davy is full of it... so I just took it as a loss and decided not to go back. Now I'm going elsewhere to get this crap removed and will have to pay again. My advice to anyone, please do not get the gel nails.... you will be disappointed and they will not refund you, they will just recommend another service and make you pay again. read more

Awful! Awful! Awful! This was my first experience and I will not going back. Place was very disorganized and chaotic from the time I got there until I left. I had made an 11:30 appointment but still had to wait 15 min before someone took me. The lady told me to pick a no chip color from a plastic bin and when I picked the color she told me I couldn't use it - the bin was a mix of polishes some that were no chip and some that looked like the no chip bottles but couldn't be used....When they finally seated me for my manicure it was rushed, my nail chipped in the corner later that evening (unfortunately I was heading out of town so I couldn't go back to fix it), by day 2 the top coat had a crackled appearance and by the end of the week the polish started to lift. When I went to pay the lady told me $35.00; however when I called to make the appointment the told me $25.00. Apparently it's $35.00 on your first visit and $25.00 when you're a "regular". Anyway Bloomingdale is filled with tons of nail salons so I would recommend to go elsewhere. read more

Chalk up another one to the owner, Davy, 2 bad reviews in one day!! Had my nails done 4 days ago & they began to lift & break. They put gel on cuticles. Went back today and Davy said I would have to wait a few weeks for the regular girl to come back.She would not even look at my nails because nobody does pink & white anymore "too hard". Davy - girls do this stuff...I enlisted another one of their regular customers to call her to make an appt for 2 people to get a pink and white fill and Davy said to come right in. If they did nails for free, I would never ever encourage anyone to go there. They are NOT a customer service based company. There are so many nail salons around that area. I went on July 3rd for a mani/pedi. Admittedly, they were busy. After waiting a little in the front, they brought me to a chair with no water, where I sat for about 10 minutes. I then experienced the quickest mani /pedi I've ever gotten. Including letting my nails dry, it was under an hour. The leg massage was painful. She went way too fast on my hands and feet. She didn't even push back my cuticles. My toe nails are all different lengths and were so sharp, they snagged my sheets that night. I filed them down. My finger nails were very sharp and I asked her to take down the edges. She made them sharper, so again, I filed them down. Half the time she wasn't even looking at what she was doing. She would use one swipe of nail color per nail, so the polish didn't cover the whole fingernail. Mani/pedis are not cheap, so I value quality work. I will not be back to Five Star Nails. There are far too many alternatives in the area. read more

I have been a loyal customer at Five Star Nails for the past 8 years. But recently, they have gone very downhill. My experience today was absolutely atrocious and I am deeply disappointed. I arrived for a fill, and they took me right away. She took off two of my fake nails (without telling me why), and I assumed she would replace them. But she didn't. She started putting an overlay on the nails when I asked her if she was going to put fake nails on again. She asked me a good dozen times why I would want her to do that and claimed that it "looks the same" as fake nails. Why would I want to walk around with eight fake nails and two real nails? She was giving me so much attitude and was rolling her eyes at me. When she finally decided to listen and put fake nails back on the two, her work immediately became sloppy--getting nail polish on my fingers, filing my nails so hard they started to bleed! And then, when I went to pay, she charged me $5 for the two nails that I DIDN'T ask her to take off and redo!!! I am extremely disappointed and am now looking for other nail salons to go to from now on. read more

Also, I brought my own sandals and requested that I use those instead of the crappy ones they use...she flat out said no and then told me why but who knows what she said. I hate to write a bad review, but I had an awful experience yesterday. The staff was friendly and welcoming which is great, but the man who did my nails did not say a single word to me except ask me what length I wanted. The job he did was awful. The nails are really thick and the gel went underneath them and pooled up to my finger tips. I had to pull all the skin away from it to try and file it off! The polish also starts a considerable way from my cuticles, very noticeable. I will post pictures if I can. With tip, a full set and pedicure came to 80 with tip, which it was not worth. He also cut me 4!!!! times while doing the manicure. Two are from the grinder they use and two are from the filing he did! Really, really painful. I would not recommend. read more

Went there for my first time in about two years to experience such terrible customer service again. I went in to get a pedi and no chip mani and got my toes done first. Then the lady sat me to get my no chip so she can get up and get distracted with another customer. It seemed like she's one of her previous client and sat her at a pedi chair and started working on her without notifying me. Meanwhile I'm still sitting waiting for her to start my manicure. After 15 mins I had to tell another nail tech because they still haven't acknowledge me and still needed to soak off my old polish. Then I got a new nail tech to do my no chip mani. I was not impressed with the way she shaped my nails because it was super uneven. When I politely asked her if she can even it out, she rolled her eyes laughed and said OMG. After that, she did not polish the edges on my nails but after making me feel uncomfortable for asking to fix something the time I let it go. Three days later my nails start to chip so I went in to see if they can fix them and the nail tech gave me attitude the whole time and said i wasn't careful enough. I felt like anything that I requested or asked was annoying/difficult for them. I'm disappointed in their attitudes because I went in and was very patient and polite and they gave me terrible attitude and made me feel uncomfortable. read more

I went here for the first time today. I got a gel full set. First off, they have a huuuuge color selection and the salon is very clean. That was a plus. Davy did my nails. She was amazing! Not only did she do my nails perfectly, she made sure as she was going along that they were being done to my satisfaction. She was very easy to talk to and funny. The other girls at the salon were also very friendly. Even as it approached closing time, I did not feel rushed as I have at other nail salons. She still took the time to do my nails the right way. So needless to say I was beyond impressed with the customer service and how my nails turned out!
