Our dryer was not heating up, so we called Fix It Right to help with the repair. I had an overall great experience thanks to Richard, our dryer technician. Not only did he diagnose and fix the issue, but he also provided excellent customer service. Super nice guy and very knowledgeable. Certainly a job well done! I really appreciated that Richard walked me through the process. He found the part that wasn't functioning properly and even showed it to me. He then replaced it with the spare part that he had on hand. Because our vent was overflowing with lint, Richard recommended a reputable 3rd party company that specializes in vent cleaning. I felt that Richard went above and beyond for the service. He could've just replaced the part and that's it - done with the repair. Instead, he helped optimize the air flow to our dryer too! Richard found that our hose was too long, and he demonstrated to me how it was crunching up and constricting air flow at the back of the dryer. Before placing the dryer back in place, he shortened the hose and reconfigured the pathway of the hose to allow for better air flow. After he put the dryer back, we ran it together and both confirmed that the dryer heated up. read more

Our front-loading washer broke this weekend. The barrel didn't spin easily and made a noise like sneakers in a dryer. I called Fix It Right Monday morning about 9am and left a message. About 10 minutes later, they called me back. I explained the basic problem and the gentleman on the phone told me that the spider was broken, etc etc (details made sense, but who can remember them now) and it would cost about $1,200 to repair so we would be better off just buying a new one. Prompt call back. Pleasant to talk with. Clear explanation about what the problem was and how he can tell from my description. Didn't try to schedule a visit and charge a fee to tell me that. I have no idea how this has 5 stars on reviews - maybe their issues were really easy to fix? Yelpers, you let me down on this one. :( I first contacted Richard when my freezer (a french door LG fridge - about 5 years old) had a leak. He came and "fixed" it, charged me a bundle (~350-400), which I took in stride even though I was surprised, and then went on his merry way. A few months later (maybe sooner - it was hard to tell as it would leak and then dry up before I noticed the puddle, and I thought it had been fixed), the same issue started occurring again. I called him back out assuming, maybe stupidly, that he would fix it for free since it was the SAME EXACT ISSUE THAT HE CLEARLY DIDN'T REALLY FIX THE FIRST TIME. Nope, he muddled around, "fixed" the issue again and charged me another ~$150. I was incredulous, but he said it was a "new repair", so I just paid and dealt with it. Low and behold, about a week later (I was really paying attention this time), the same leak popped back up. I was fed up with Richard and the over $500 I already spent on this issue, so I just bought a new fridge. Good luck if you decide to contact him - and be ready to be ripped off! read more

My top loading Whirlpool washer that was here since I moved in 10 years ago suddenly stopped working. I called on a Saturday and left a message around closing time and was surprised to get a call several hours later. Richard spent some time trouble shooting the problem over the phone and thought he could address the problem. He also thought it was worth fixing because often the older machines are more reliable than the new, technologically advanced ones. He then came out that Monday and identified the problem and fixed it at a reasonable price; now my machine is working well again. I had a similar bad experience to a couple of the other reviewers. We had an Electrolux fridge which was consistently experiencing frost build up in the freezer every month or so, causing it to not work at all until it was shut off with all doors open to let it manually defrost for a day or so. Richard came by, and said the main control board needs to be replaced. To replace that, he said the user control board is paired with it, and also needs to be replaced. But he said if we had those replaced, everything else (including the compressor) looked great, and it should be able to last another 10 years or whatever. It ended up costing over $600 for parts and labor. The labor came out to $235, split between $140 billed as labor, and $95 for "service call". The parts were $205 for the main control board, $140 for the user control board, and $115 for a slide set (for a slide out drawer that was also broken). The parts costs seem high, but maybe they're fair for an Electrolux. But anyway, we were fine with the cost if the problem was actually fixed. But, a month later, it had the exact same frost build up. I emailed Richard and he never responded. I thought about calling him, but I don't know if I really want him to come out again, only to have to pay another $600 and still have the same problem. Now, it seems like it happens every 2 months or so, so maybe there's a slight improvement, but the problem is definitely not fixed. read more

Our LG front loader washer started to run noisy and we called Richard again at Fix It Right. He had fixed our dishwasher in the past and we new we could count on him. This washer is very complex and Richard discovered it needed a special part after arriving to make the repair with the standard repair parts. After taking it apart he found a hidden defect and tracked down the special part to fix it right. Called in the morning about my clothes dryer not drying, Richard called back within the hour, was able to come by within a half hour, diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes, had to go get a part, came back within about half hour, replaced the part in about 15-20 minutes and was done! I had a problem with my icemaker, the water wouldn't stop leaking in the freezer. I had to turn off the water source so it would stop leaking. I was told I needed a new ice maker by Whirlpool. I called on Wednesday and fortune was with me as he was available Thursday. My cook top, a DCS had a burner that was not lighting. He took it apart starting at the top of the burner and worked down to the bottom the burner. Found a plugged gas jet. Filed it out and it works fine now.
