This is my very first review I think.. but flaco taco is amazing first because the customer service is top of the line. I am a very hard to please type of person and very picky when ordering and I can say the people that work and answer the phones are always very nice, patient, and give five star customer service. Everything I've ever gotten here is either completely flavorless or super salty. The tamale tasted like water. Black beans had so much salt they were inedible. Tried it twice, I think that's it for me. Lots of good Mexican places in chicago, this one is not worth it. read more

First timer, stopped in and read the menu and didn't get a good vibe so I ordered two steak tacos and the meat was cold and really dry, the hot sauce was sweet and no spice to it. I had cravings of a burrito today, and decided to order a STEAK burrito to go. The cashier repeated the order to make sure it was correct(which it was). The wait wasn't too bad. Everything seemed fine. They call my number(nothing wrong).Walked to my destination and proceeded to take a bite and it was PORK. I checked the receipt and it was totally wrong, but the order number was correct!!! Luckily I am someone who can eat pork. We heard about his hidden treasure in the city after visiting Chicago several times before. We have it a shot for lunch and it was pretty good, but not as great as I was hoping. We had fish tacos and they were average, and i love and eat a lot of fish tacos. We also tried the Nachos Nachos Nachos with chicken. They were pretty good, but again not the best I've had. Great little place, and quaint atmosphere just steps of Michigan Avenue. Will definitely try again next trip, just won't get the fish tacos. Oh had the Saturday special Sangrita. After this Flaco's experience, I don't think i will be returning to this location. I have been a fan of the Company because of the South loop location. I was bragging about it to everyone who liked to get quality Mexican for a decent price. I went to this one because it was open later than the rest. When we placed our order we sat down at a high top table. We were talking for about 10 minutes and we didn't even get our nacho appetizer yet. There were two groups behind us they were beginning to get served before us. I got quickly upset and had to flag a worker. She thought we wanted our nacho's with our dinner and I told her to bring them out asap. It was a total of about 20 minutes maybe more before I received anything at our table. It was cold, the music sucked, and the people in there were rude. I think management needs to take a learning step or two when dealing with customers of pace and friendliness. 4 stars for Taco Tuesday and Marg Mondays(but otherwise 2.5, aka a solid meh)! Every tuesday they offer a special taco for $1, which is a great deal as these tacos generally run $2-4 each. They rotate these weekly so you can try out a different cheap one each week, and add on their other tacos too. At a normal price of $2.45(+.50cents for steak of bocadillo), these alone won't set you back too much. But go for tuesday and you really get your money's worth. Got two of the Chicken Mole Taco(their taco tuesday special), and also one of the al pastor. Taco's are served with double corn tortillas, cilantro, onion, and chihuahua cheese(though the cheese itself is a bit strange and honestly tastes a bit like parmesan). The chicken mole were decent in flavor, but for $1 they were definitely worth the value. And as far as the al pastor goes, for there was a great balance between savory and sweet with this blend of pineapple, spices, and soft tender pork. As a sidenote, the rest of the menu looks solid too and they also have specials every day for drinks and food, so that's another reason to come back($3 marg mondays and $3 sangria tuesdays give your week a strong start) read more

Total overpriced crap. This neighbor to the area bought 3 Vegan tacos at $8.50, served with no lettuce, just pico, some over cooked peppers and onion, and an overwhelming amount of very runny black beans (w/no regard to how it all immediately falls apart). $6.50 for sub-par guacamole and those greasy fried "chips" that crumble easily. For those two items and a bottled drink, $20 (Ouch!) for total s%#t! It amazes me how in a city with so many Mexican restaurants, how this chain fails so badly. I went here last night and got the al pastor taco and added their guac, sour cream, pico, and sauces. It was so flavorful and delicious, but the meat itself was a touch on the dry side. With the amazing sauces it didn't even matter though. Also their pickled onions were awesome. My boyfriend got the shrimp taco special and he said it was fine. Next time he will probably get the al pastor because he enjoyed that more. We will be back :) read more

I went here for dinner and had one fish, chicken, and steak taco with a side of rice and beans. The tacos were devine. The beans in the rice and beans were a little tasteless. Other than that, this would have been a five star experience. I'll definitely go here as much as possible. read more

My boyfriend and I are fairly new to downtown. The first night we were here we tried this place and have since tried it 3 times. We've tried the steak burrito, picadillo burrito, nachos, and chips & salsa. Burritos were just okay. Too much filling and not enough support--they usually end up falling apart. Oh, and if you don't like onions, make sure to specify "easy on the onions"...they throw a crap ton in their burritos otherwise. Nachos were good...nothing spectacular Their chips are THE BEST. I've never encountered a place that has the type of chips they do. The salsa is not really salsa in my opnion...it's slimey green stuff. BUT, that slimey green stuff actually tastes good. I'll still order from here--would like to try most of what they have to offer. OH, and delivery is stupid fast. Just as quick as i click "place order" on grub hub they're knocking at my door. Flacos is so good. Having moved to Chicago from Southern California, I missed being able to get Mexican food available at every turn. Chipotle just wasn't cutting it. Finally I found Flacos! Flacos is really, really good, and it's pretty darn authentic. The food is reliably delicious, affordable, and the employees are all really nice. I've had the veg nachos, the veg tamale, the quesadilla, the veg torta, and the veg burrito--all really good. It's a great location for vegetarians, but even my friends who eat meat have all loved what they ordered. The chips are great too--warm and crispy! read more

For a vegetarian, lots of tacos can often taste the same. But the veggie taco at Flaco's Tacos is delicious! I also tried the Baja Shrimp and it had a nice kick to it. If you're interested in dessert they have somewhat dense red velvet cupcakes that are pretty good, although a bit pricy at $3.45. This place is better suited for lunch as getting multiple tacos can add up,so sticking with a couple of veg tacos will run you about $5. Food service is fast and the place is cute/clean, will definitely come here again for lunch! read more

I never ate here before. New GM at Pearle Vision in Old Town, and I wanted to order lunch for my staff. But while I registered and submitted my address, it indicated I was out of the area for a delivery. So I called. The Manager(Claudio) was nice enough to approve the delivery and I'm sooo happy he did. The food was sooo good. The sauces were amazing!!. Probably the worst, least flavorful tacos I've had. Fish taco was fishy, pork and chicken required tons of sauce in order to give it some life. The hibiscus iced tea was great though so that's why they get higher than one star. I will not come back unless I'm in the mood for some of this tea. read more

Flaco's Tacos more than surpassed my friends' and my desire for affordable food downtown. Hungry and about to succumb to fast food to find a meal on a college budget, Flaco's Tacos came to the rescue! Although Chipotle and I do have a love affair of sorts, I have been desperately craving a more authentic Mexican meal since moving from California to attend college in the Chicago suburbs. I had fish tacos, which were good. I was simply thrilled to find a restaurant that serves tacos that aren't piled high with sour cream and grated cheese and salsa upon salsa. With only fish, cabbage, and a chipotle aioli, the tacos were prepared exactly how I like them. It's not the best Mexican food I've had, but it was good. I work near this awesome restaurant and eat lunch here at least once a week. SO YUMMY!! Authentic Mexican food at it's best. Homemade, delicious tortilla chips and green salsa are the best ever. What a disappointment. I hate writing bad reviews, because running a business is tough, but I couldn't let this one slide. It's rare that food is so bad that it ruins your night, but this was one of those occasions. A friend told me this place was good so on her recommendation I ordered us dinner for two that consisted of 2 burritos (one Steak one Veggie) and the Wednesday special of Tostadas w/ steak. I also ordered her a vegan cupcake upon request. My first and biggest complaint is that all the food was cold when it arrived. Not cold like it cooled down on the way cold, but cold like it had been sitting in a refrigerator for 3 hours cold. Keep in mind I ordered from the Water tower location at 46 E. Chicago Ave and I only live 5 blocks west, so there's no reason the food should have been so cold when it arrived. Aside from being frosty, the steak on both items was tough and chewy (I'm sure being cold didn't help that, and the greens on top of the Tostado's were really bitter) The tostado's consisted of a two fried tortilla's, some cold meat straight from the fridge strewn on top, a HUGE amount of bitter lettuce, a tiny dab of sour cream, a few shreds of cheese and some chucks of tomato. I initially thought they had forget the cheese, but it was there, it was just in such a tiny amount that I had a hard time finding it. I think so much lettuce is added to try and hide that fact that you aren't getting much steak. All that was topped with a large slice of Avocado. The accompanying "rice and beans cup" was also cold except for the middle that was strangely HOT, which makes me think maybe it was tossed in the microwave before being sent out to me.. Despite that it was still under done and REALLY salty. That rice was inedible and I ended up throwing it away. To save the Tostados I deconstructed them both, there was really only enough meat to make one good tostado, so I threw the meat in a pan with some olive oil and re-heated the steak, I then diced it up better to make it a bit less chewy and I was able to salvage one of the two tortilla's, the 2nd was soggy and not crisp from something but I couldn't tell what. The Steak burrito was just bad. Same problem with the cold, tough steak & everything was unevenly placed in the tortilla so you don't get anything but dough in the first few bites. I was hungry so I ate about half, but then I'd had enough. Not something I EVER want to eat again. I don't like to waste food so my dogs got the rest. All in all it was a waste of $45.I understand that people make mistakes and not every dish is going to be perfect, but this was so bad across the board that it makes me think this is the norm for them.
