I'm so happy that we came here after a friend's recommendation. It super cool to come into this trendy brownstone for delicious Mexican food. You can't beat the specials, especially for the price. Flaco's is One of my favorite restaurants to get tacos in Chicago. The quality has fallen off a bit over the years. I still love their steak tacos, chips and guacamole and red hot salsa. They're guac is a nice large serving, great for sharing with a group and it's authentic. The margaritas are good and somewhat potent. I love this place. Their Mexican Sandwich is to die for- it makes me sad that I'm not eating one right now. Their other selections are great, too: tacos, burritos, nachos, you name it. Plus they have delicious deserts- vegan cupcakes, etc. The only thing I don't like about Flaco's is that they use plastic silverware. I understand why, but it is so wasteful. Wife and I wandered in here for dinner on our first trip into Chicago a few days ago and enjoyed a tasty pair of chicken and beef burritos. Food was good served quickly, staff was polite and helped me make a selection. I really enjoyed the green salsa (wife loved the red) and the only thing I didn't like was the 2.00 for a can of diet coke. I work nearby and Flaco's has always been a solid place for lunch. I don't think the food is very authentic but they always has fast service and their food is pretty tasty. My go to order at Flaco's has always been the Combo Dos which comes with two tacos and rice and beans. For only $6.95, it is plenty of food and for a really cheap price. read more

Had the steak tacos with chips and guacamole. I did not like either dishes. The steak in the tacos seemed to have something like a gravy on it, it reminded me of roast beef or something. It's really hard to write this review as someone who has genuinely loved this restaurant for so many years and in all of its locations, but my previous experience at Flacos Tacos on Chicago Ave made me almost consider not revisiting this stomping ground. I'm an employee downtown and I've also had the experience of meeting *Ed, the owner I believe, both in the previous Wrigleyville location and the Chicago Ave Location, and his charming demeanor translates to perfect kind of place to stop into after a long day at work for a much needed burrito and margarita. Such has been the case for almost 4 years at this location and many a Monday nights. The management however has changed and their demeanor and customer service skills are truly appalling. My time in Flacos has led me to guess that Nolan is the current manager. In the times that I've interacted with him while he actually appears to be doing something productive, he has been short, impractical, and rude. While dining with friends he refused to turn off abrasive classical music that was filling the restaurant and insisted that this was the normal way and that "It's the only way people will ever leave or else we have people in here sometimes until 1:30 am." This same night he also cut off margarita sales before making any announcement. I was shot down and told yet again that it was the usual. I just find it really hard to deal with someone who is so distant and rude, especially as someone who has loved this restaurant for over 7 years. The saving grace is that this manager seems unlike any other leader I've ever witnessed at this spot. The current hostess is as charming as can be while she tidies up and warmly checks in and *Ed has such warm hearted banter (and memory for people) that I'd hate to miss this food and positive environment because of a snob behind the counter. First and last time going to Flacos tacos. I went in wanting a simple steak torta. The guy working the register told me they only have egg and chorizo torta. I asked if I can get a steak torta and he said no. It's not that hard to put the same ingredients as a steak taco in bread. I ended up ordering two steak tacos, guacamole and a horchata. The orchata was so disgusting. It tasted like soap and I had to throw it out. The tacos were so greasy and the chips were stale and old. Guacamole was ok. I will not be going back to this establishment even tho it's the only taco place in the neighborhood. Whatever you do, do not get HORCHATA HERE!!!! read more

I only gave this place a 2 because the frozen margarita was good. The service leaves a lot to be desired here. I came to this taco place on a Monday afternoon just before 12 we decided we wanted the taco plate sounded good, once we got to the counter the cashier was so RUDE! she asked if I wanted sugar or salt around the rim of the margarita glass. I said I'd ended my diet so I'll take the sugar! You know making a light joke of it... she rolled her eyes and stopped me mid sentence snapped her neck in the other direction towards my girlfriend and completely ignored me. Ok? You're not in the mood today I get it, fine moving on. She gives us a table number and we go sit by the window across the room. She brings us our margaritas a bit later and says "straws are on the counter" since when do paying customers have to get their own straws after you bring them drinks? whatever though, I'm excited to drink! it's early and my day off so moving right along. I happen to take a look at the receipt and they charged me 3.50 for 1 margarita and 6.25 for the other (there was a $3 special) I asked the cashier about it and she had an attitude adjusting the amount at this point I'm just over it! The margaritas were strong and delicious so that's a plus but the tacos were small there was a kid sized portion of rice and beans so not worth it! Overall, I would come back for margaritas but not if Ms sassy pants is there. Whenever I receive a delivery I expect the delivery to be almost an hour wait, the person to say "Hi" and pass me the receipt. This time it was different. I order Flaco's Tacos Saturday night. It was a girl also, not used to a girl riding a bike. She was enthusiastic when she came to my door. We even carried a conversation for about 3-4 mins. I forgot to ask for her name. She was very nice. I have no clue if she's like that inside the store but on delivery in this cold weather she still keeps a smile on her face. The food was GREAT! Surprisingly still warm.
