Mediocre food. Tiny portions. Pricey menu for something that is just a fast food. Certainly not authentic Mexican food - so that was the biggest disappointment. Staff isn't friendly either. Quite rude in fact. They don't make you feel welcomed. They messed up my order and check and when I had them correct it, they showed lot of attitude. A Flaco bowl (A tortilla-less burrito, choice of meat, served with pinto beans, corn, Chihuahua cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, avocado, and crisp Romaine lettuce) costs $8.95 and Veg bowl which is exactly same except meat costs $9.95. Strange? Despite adding hot sauces, the dish tasted pretty flat. Probably the most bland food I ever had. Guacamole was fine. But those greasy chips - no thanks. The taco stuffings are so small that you need at least 4-5 of them (each costs $3 or more). And the indoor stinks pretty bad. The outdoor sittings is actually not bad. But trains passes by every few minutes and loud noise can be off putting. So, overall pretty bad experience. read more

It seems that the ratings are all over the place for this new Mexican joint in Edgewater. I'll give my quick positive/negative rundown. Positive: -Two standard-issue chicken tacos I ordered were yummy. -It's got a distinctive location and layout, right under the El stop with outdoor seating between two indoor spaces. The train noise is surprisingly not at all intrusive. -If you are from the neighborhood, you are likely to run into neighbors and get re-acquainted as we did during our lunch-time visit. Cons -Chips seem to be freshly deep-fried and are greasy to the taste/touch. Guacamole was really bland. -Our small order fell through the cracks and took a while - it seemed to simply temporarily vanish from their system. -Neither the green nor red salsa they serve in squeeze bottles is at all hot, which to my mind defeats the purpose of having two different salsas. The tip openings on the bottles are so small that it's only a question of time until one explodes on a hapless patron who squeezes too hard. Discounting cons 2 & 3 due to the newness of the place, I'd definitely stop by again and try some of the frozen drinks that looked really yummy but will definitely pass on the chips and guac. read more

This place was total trash. If you walk into the Flaco's Tacos establishment, it starts off with a horrific smell and unorganized lines for the not so edible food. I am a local chicagoan and out of all places in the city this has to be the worst place ever. For the price of one... ONE TACO was $3. This taco included only meat and cheese. The meat tasted like plastic in the garbage. It is also located right underneath the CTA Red Line which means noise is a complete issue. If you're a college student and have a craving for tacos. I highly recommend that you would go to the nearest Taco Bell and grab a taco there. At least the meat at Taco Bell is edible!!!!!! If possible I would give this place a rating for -1000000 over 10. In addition, the health department should make a trip to this location also. I don't know if it is sanitary to have the bathroom located right next to the grills where food is being processed and cooked. read more

I would have given this zero stars if possible. I went within the first few days of opening and had the tamale, it was great. When I went back again (about a 4 days later), to get another tamale- they had none, zero. I figured they were just figuring out how many items they had to make or order, so I went back again a week later. No tamales, yet again. When I asked the cashier if this was a frequent thing, she said yes, we run out of tamales really quickly. That being said I ordered nothing. No money made on flacos tacos end and no money wasted on my end on something I didn't want. --- tip for flacos, if you want to make money you may want to have enough food to serve the customers coming through the door and stop wasting their time and money, because they won't come back. read more

I love the Flaco's on Chicago ave in downtown and usually one would assume a consistency between two franchises--far from the case here in Edgewater. The flaco bowl I ordered was terrible, I couldn't even distinguish the steak from ground beef and the lettuce was soaking wet and water pooled up at the bottom of my bowl, which was honestly better fit for a small portion of soup. If they can step up their game I'm willing to give them another try but oh man what a disappointment. read more

As excited as I am to have a taco joint right down the street... Every time I've give in I've lost money. Though the good is pretty good for the price and it's a great place to carry out. I've been here about 10 times now, and every time my order has missed something. Today, it was the upcharge for guacamole with none to be found. The customer service experience I had at this restaurant was the worst I have ever had. I work with a non-profit organization that was looking for a location to have our first meeting and went to Flaco's weeks in advance to organize something. They were very helpful until we confirm two days before the event and they had no idea what we were talking about, however said we could come this one time. The day before we try to confirm again, and once again they have no idea but welcome us. Day of we show up with all our members and there was nothing but frustration against us. One of our members was cursed out for being there, they stopped us in the middle of a speech to yell at us in front of everyone, and at the end of our meeting as we are wrapping up they kick us out and tell us to never come back. Ok so what can I say. This place was horrible. For the $50 I spent totally not worth it. The food came barely luke warm after waiting about 20 min. So we sent it back and when it came back it was so so. No napkins on the tables or around that we could see. The girl that brought our food was on facebook one hand and food on the other. I figured I would try this spot in edgewater. No bueno. $10 for two taco dinner that was more rice and beans than tacos. The fish taco( what there was of fish) was dry, over seasoned, and small. The al pastor taco was bland, lacked pineapple, and came with little toppings I had to open the taco to see if they forgot them. Now, 12 hours later I am in the bathroom every 15 minutes crapping my brains out. I have eaten at a fair amount of taco places in this city that looked Questionable from a food safety stance and have never had the bowel busting experience I am having after eating at Flaco's. I have never left a review on yelp but this place was just awful. My server was MIA G. And she could not have been more unfriendly. I ordered 3 tacos and a margarita with strawberry flavor. Though I was paying for the flavoring, she poured what I could estimate to be 1 teaspoon of strawberry flavoring on the corner of the margarita (we ate inside and it's pretty full right now and I noticed that's everyone who got flavoring got a pretty sizable amount around their margarita). My friend looked at it and just laughed. When my tacos came, two of them didn't have onions on them and I had to go up there and ask for onions for my tacos that I already ordered. The location on Chicago actually has *grilled lime steak tacos. What these people have on Granville are NOT like grilled steak tacos they look baked or cook and had no lime flavor. And the worst of all.... our tacos were cold. Though I live in Edgewater, I would have made the trip all the way downtown had I known this was the type of food and service I would get. I was really looking forward to them opening closer to Rogers Park, especially since you don't have to walk up stairs cause I have a toddler, but I might stick to going all the way to Chicago Ave, unless they make margaritas like the other location, cause I haven't tried them yet on granville. I had the carne asada fries, which I usually get. A majority of the dish contained the fries & loads of cheese that was in a big gob. There was barely any meat & the meat that was on it was very dry. I didn't even notice any sour cream & there was barely any diced tomatoes. I think the employees at the granville location might need more training. I also think the should put the fries in the containers like the Chicago Ave location, instead of a box. I thinks thats rediculous that they have them in a box. All it does is scrunch everything up which is probably one reason why that large amount of cheese was in a big gob. I never had to use a knife to eat these at the Chicago location, but I had to cut everything up on the fries I got on granville. The only thing I thought was good was the location, the patio & no stairs to enter read more
