Since my barber moved to Healdsburg (next door) to Flakey Cream Do-Nuts, I've always been curious about the donut shop next door. I popped in and liked the diner style seating with a row of seating against the wall and swivel styled chairs across the way along with a counter. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese croissant. It came out quickly and was hot. The croissant, no lie, was one of the best croissants I've ever had. It was warm, doughy, flaky, buttery goodness.. the egg, bacon and pepper jack cheese was delicious. This might be my new go-to breakfast spot after a haircut appointment. read more

We've been here several times and usually have good service. The food was good but the service was horrible. The server came and asked if she could quickly take our order. Based on the donut name and that it's located in a strip mall, I had low expectations. The inside is a typical diner, unremodeled, with a donut counter. But outside is nicer. We sat outside for breakfast on a warm Friday under the shade of a red umbrella and next to a planter box of flowers. The atmosphere was very pleasant and they kindly brought a dog bowl of water out for our dog. I ordered huevos rancheros, with three tacos under scrambled eggs, chorizo, black beans, avocado, crema. It was very good and filling. Husband got the homemade corned beef has with 2 poached eggs and a slice of toast, and said it was better than he expected but not a huge portion. Our friend who doesn't eat eggs got the savory crepe filled with mushrooms, spinach, cheese and chicken pesto with a side salad and enjoyed it. The waitress was nice but it took 30 minutes for our order to arrive, no water refills, had to ask for check and to go boxes, so service wasn't great. They may have been short staffed as I only saw one waitress inside and out. Total bill was $54 plus an automatic 20% tip, though that could be adjusted. Breakfast was excellent. Service was spot on. Place started in 1960, about the same time as me and had a nostalgic feeling.

My daughter wanted a chocolate foot, she went there and came back with a maple foot with sprinkles, a jelly donut and a cinnamon roll. These days lots of portions seem to be getting smaller. The foot donut was bigger than what I remember, my daughter agreed. The foot still had the raised yeasty flavor with nice texture. The jelly donut was also huge and jam packed with raspberry filling. The jelly donut was almost the same size as the cinnamon roll. I used to go here in the 70's and the quality is just as good as I remember it. read more

Cornbeef Hash - Do NOT advertise Home Made, then pull it out of a can. If this was homemade, then you did the absolutely most incredible job of replicating what comes directly out of the can. We have been long-time Flakey Cream goers so writing a negative review is rather unfortunate. Donuts are still tasty! However, I've ordered two different burritos while in town and the sausage is a bit funky. They used to use link sausage in their burritos and that was much better tasting. This go around I ordered an F1 and asked to add jalapeños which I'm sure we were charged for but they were omitted from the burrito. Annoying but whatever. Online under "Sides" they offer a side of corned beef hash. I love a good corned beef hash so I ordered that as well. What I received was a full portion and the consistency was that of canned cat food, mushy and minced. The corned beef was hardly detectable and quite frankly, unappealing. This is one of my old time favorite places to come to for brunch, I have been coming here since the Madonna the material girl Days and the food is just as delicious as the first time I came. This is a family owned small business. Friendly environment, customer service is excellent. I recommend the French toast and the omelettes they are all so tasty is hard to pick my favorite Prices are very reasonable. The pancakes are also delicious and big, overall their portions sizes are big enough to share, it does get crowded on the weekends and since the place is small we some times have a little bit of a wait which I don't mind. My grandson wanted donuts and the local donut place was closed so I searched the internet and found this donut shop. I then went there and was surprised how good it was. Also, to my surprise they also served breakfast. We were immediately asked by a waitress if we wanted to sit down and eat lunch. I told her that we were just getting donuts. She then waited on us. I love the name. I assume the only reason cream gets flaky is if it's been sitting out way too long out of the fridge, but I think the name is meant to make their donuts sound tempting. It's really an old-timey diner with old-timey food but good and unpretentious. But this place is for the rest of us who aren't big on ambiance after a long drive from Mendocino. Short and sweet, Jamie W. had a $7.25 Patty Melt with Fries, and I had a $7.75 Mushroom Cheeseburger with Fries (see photos). No fuss, no muss. Just straight-ahead, affordable grill grub completely unadorned with either aioli or arugula. Just a dill pickle chip. That's it. It hit the spot and nothing more. It doesn't promise to be anything more but grub by George. We were served by a really nice waitress who merely did her job with efficiency and a smile. We didn't want anything more. Since Flaky Cream DO-Nuts was closed the last time I was in Healdsburg, I made a point to come up earlier to stop by since I'm still on my best donut quest. I had a bad feeling the donut probably wasn't that great since the entire assortment of donuts looked really blah in the display case, but decided to purchase one anyway. The coffee shop is pretty small, and hidden in the middle of a strip mall. It's about a block from the main downtown Healdsburg area, but not too far of a walk. I wish I had a better experience, since I like to support small businesses, and will have to come back to eat a donut the day of, or try their breakfast/brunch dishes. This is surely the hidden gem of Healdsburg. While Healdsburg does have other restaurants out there, it feels like I'm breaking the bank for all the frills. Which I'm okay with sometimes, but not always. I came to Flakey Cream Donuts on a random Sunday with my husband. Let me say the staff are super attentive and kind. This place has been here since the 60s and a lot of veterans hang here (even helping out on busy mornings). The food is extremely reasonable and honestly it is so delicious I find myself waking up on Sunday mornings craving their donuts and breakfasts. I'm really happy to have found this place.
