Haven't been there for years. Thought we'd have an early lunch Friday. At 11:00, there were some empty tables, but it filled fast. Mom got a soup and half chicken salad sandwich. The soup was manhattan clam chowder and it was a huge bowl. Mom ate every drop and had the cake for dessert. The sandwich and potato salad came home for the next day. I got a Rubin with slaw and I couldn't finish mine either. Big portions and good food in a typical diner setting. Can't ask for anything better. I must say although I don't like giving bad reviews, this is one of those times that I must. I only used the window service as all i was buying were bagels and a rye bread. I did not wait long which is good. I ordered pumpernickel bagels, whole wheat bagels and a rye bread. I was told none of the bagels i wanted were available ( it was 11.15 AM). So, i ordered plain bagels. The rye bread weighed 2 pounds and cost 11.92. Are you kidding me? Upon arriving at my home in Boca, i saw the largest bagel ever baked, and it was tasteless. Got caught up in the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives hype about this place. I ordered a pastrami and chopped liver sandwich with onion rings. The chopped liver is more like pate. I'm Jewish, so I know a thing or two about chopped liver. Flakowitz's was tasty but it has the consistency of dry wall paste. It's very dense and heavy. When I took my first bite of the sandwich, all the pastrami in that bite pulled right out of the sandwich because whoever sliced it, sliced it WITH the grain, not AGAINST the grain. If you know anything about any cured meat made from brisket, you absolutely MUST slice it against the grain. The server offered me a knife so I could actually cut it into bite size pieces. I declined and instead had her bring me a chopped liver sandwich on a everything bagel. That's where it just got worse for me. The bagel tasted old. It was horribly dry and tasteless. I ended up just eating half the chopped liver without the bagel. The onion rings also were disappointing. They tasted okay, but I got the bottom of the bag because all mine were pieces of rings. Remember that just because Guy Fieri was there, doesn't mean it's a slam dunk. This place was not good. read more

If you don't know what a bialy is, take it off the menu. We ordered two bialys and lox to go and we came home and found something that looked like a plain roll with no taste.. It had no relation to a bialy whatsoever. Yuck!! read more

The worst customer service ever. The manager Steve gave my older husband who can not see without glasses double the amount of fish. He was so rude when I called. He actually stated he wanted the fish back to resell it. This is a huge concern as taking fish from a home back to resell is so gross. I loved the FBI (Flakowitz Bagel Inn) and I'd like to return soon. My inaugural dine-in-the-parking-lot during COVID order consisted of an excellent "mile-high" pastrami on rye and a lackluster hot dog on a great bun. The problem is that I'm into this no-carb thing because prior to relocating to FL, there was much pasta ingested alongside ghosts of Hannaukas past. Unlike in NYC, its always beach weather in FL. Thus I only ate the meat but had a pinch of the hot dog bun. Verdict, the "mile-high" sandwich was more like a quarter-mile. But since I prefer quality to quantity, I was overall very pleased. For those of you that once upon a time were able to freely jet-set the country, the pastrami at FBI is a cross between the late great Carnegie Deli in NYC and Langers in LA. This is a good thing. Not quite as thickly cut meat as the longstanding Katz's or as thin as the original 2nd Avenue Deli (may Abe Lebewohl rest in peace and his memory live on forever) but a happy compromise between the two legends of the distant and not so distant past, respectively. As for the hot dog... My New Year's resolution several years ago was not to write negative reviews unless I've revisited the establishment and had a consistent experience. I admire entrepreneurs like restaurateurs who put their hearts and souls into their establishments; deal with a plethora of stupid and sometimes not-so-stupid local regulations; employ a bunch of people' and pay bushell-load of taxes. And, food taste is subjective, quality not so much. So permit me to leave it at: the hot-dog was seemingly of a very high quality. The bun was both. Suggestion to owners: I'm happy to fork-over a couple of bucks more if you add some more meat (get the "mile-high" to 1/3 of a mile). Also, the cole-slaw tasted pretty good but middle of the road. I think the one thing I would love to see done differently is the Gulden's mustard packets (to my chagrin, Langer's in LA does the same). I'm accustomed to excellent deli mustard that Goulden's once was; nowadays it's a homogenized middle of the road blah brand (at least its better than yellow mustard). I'd pay an extra buck for a side of good old fashioned "spicy deli mustard." These things are little more than fine-tuning for my own personal preferences and may not be representative of the preferences of the area served by FBI. But you can have the best of both worlds by having these items available on the side or as add-ons so when overly opinionated nudniks like yours truly stop by, we'll find little to nag about. read more

This is my first experience here and I only came here because Panera bread stop serving breakfast at 10:30. I was going to the take out window on the exterior of the building and reviewing the menu. All I wanted was a sausage, egg and cheese bagel. I could not locate it on the menu so I just asked, and the attendant said that they had it and she put in my order. As I was waiting for my order, I noticed in red lettering, which was different than any of the other menu items that it was in small print at the bottom. $8.50. I was so confused why a bagel sandwich cost so much money. By that point, I had already put it in, and I was just going to except my faith and pray that it was the best bagel sandwich I had ever had. Let me tell you the bagel sandwich was less than desirable. The bagel itself was an everything bagel. And in my thoughts and opinions, it was missing half of everything. The toppings were sparse on the top, and may be a little bit more generous on the bottom, but altogether pretty bland. The sausage in the sausage, egg and cheese were just sausage links that were cut up, which was the strangest thing I had ever seen. The eggs for the egg sandwich was as bland as it could get and then they used American cheese, which for an eight dollar and 50 Cent sandwich I would've expected better. All in all I didn't even want to eat the sandwich but after spending $10 after a tip, I ate half of it and then dumped the rest. The only thing I would say is that the food came out quickly and perhaps if I came there for a different menu item I may enjoy it. But from my first and only experience there, I would say stay away. read more

Great bagels with a good variety of traditonal flavors such as seasame, onion, egg, everything, salt, etc along with some new flavors such as sundried tomato and asiago. They have a busy dining room with efficient service and a takeout window. Service can be a little curt during weekend breakfast as they are usually swamped. Great specials and good solid food. Absolutely the worst service here, the food might be good quality but everything else about the restaurant is questionable, I mean the way this establishment chooses to be so rude to customers it is unbelievable. The method they chose to run this business is not anything near acceptable. I went here not too long ago when I was passing by with some friends going on a beach weekend visit to Boca Raton beach nearby and we attempted to stop here for a quick breakfast on the way to the beach. But we soon realized as we were trying to order at their window because the inside was mobbed that we had to wait, no problem. However, we are pretty specific people and they did not even attempt to help us in the way that we would have liked and I once again did not feel anything close to a "valued customer," so that day my girlfriends and I chose to go somewhere else and did not stay to pay for our food once we tried to order but were treated very poorly overall by the staff here. Not to mention, when we asked to speak to the manager, he was no better, this man was very rude and gave us all these judgemental looks as we asked him questions about everything we had concerns with. I understand that family owned or even business partner established businesses like this one (yes I did my research on this place) have their flaws, but I regret every moment of this decision going to such a poorly, rip-off exploitation restaurant, I would never ever in a million years fathom recommending this place to anyone. I have stopped by and almost gone to Flakowitz a few times. But the place is popular and I don't like waiting in a half hour line. The other day we somehow finally decided to check it out though. I put our name on the list on a busy weekend morn, and I to my surprise, we had a table in less than 10 minutes. The place had a good group of people waiting for a table and the place was packed, but they were an efficient bunch at flipping tables. We knew to order fast. Our server was on a in less than a minute with coffee and the complimentary breakfast cake. Free cake and some coffee in less than a minute? I was sold. The menu was pretty good. I got a staple for me, a egg sandwich, over medium. It was exactly what I wanted, along with the potatoes that came with it. We did our part to enjoy our breakfast but give up our table expeditiously. But our server must have gotten distracted. We didn't see her for 20 minutes. Finally I got up and had them take my money at the register. I'm glad I finally tried Flakowitz. It hit the spot. read more

We found the Flakowitz in Boyton Beach and absolutely loved it. So when we saw this location (close to our new place) we were super excited to check it out. It's a lot smaller but the service is flawless! All of the servers are attentive and very nice. The owner is a little rough around the edges but it's Ok. You don't deal with him. :) Breakfast is great! The French toast is a bit dry and they charge for Seltzer water. Most places don't, which is why I mention it. It's kind of hard to review this restaurant. I'm not a fan of dogging on locals bc hey we live here, and we dine here pretty frequently, never had an issue, but today...we walked in around 12:35, restaurant is maybe 3/4 full, plenty of people on the floor, behind the counter, and were greeted by Holly, the only redeeming quality of this experience. She was kind, bright, and lovely. We sat in the middle of the restaurant, so pretty noticeable...we waited...and waited...annnnd waited. and It's now 1:05 and we haven't even been greeted by a server. Unfortunately we're working so we didn't get eat, but it smelled really good. So...one star for Holly, one for the smells. If you have a half day to spend waiting...go for it, we weren't as lucky. For a restaurant whose client base is primarily..."on the way out"...my suggestion would be not to drive away the folks that can keep you here for years to come. I wouldn't say it's the absolute best compared to other places, but still pretty good. The service is OK. They were quick to seat and serve us (which was great), but I wouldn't say they were friendly by any means. I don't know what happened here. We ate here 2018 and it was great. Real deal deli. We went in last week and it was disappointing all the way around. The matzoh ball soup tasted like the stock came from a box. The Corned beef and pastrami was totally dry and not even warmed up. I had to load on the Thousand island to get it down and only ate half. My wife had a fish platter the smoked fish was nice but the onions,cucumber, lettuces was dried out and unless to eat. I don't know, when you spend 50 dollars on lunch it should at the least be edible. That's 50 before the the tip. As my Father use to say You only have one job to do in a restaurant, make good food it's not that hard. We told the manager she was just resigned to rely on the customers that don't care I presume. It's seems though everyone I know in Boca goes here for breakfast. The restaurant is located within a retail shopping area so there is plenty of parking available. Great food and great service at reasonable prices. Be prepared to wait for a table as this place is always very busy. It's reputation speaks for itself. read more
