I'm back with another review of a new DC restaurant! A group of four of us had reservations on a Thursday evening at 6:30p. We came to catch up and celebrate a birthday! I was the first to arrive and was warmly greeted and sat at our table. Our server came and greeted me as well and showed me the birthday note and soy candle for the birthday person. I thought that was a really sweet touch to the service. Now, to the food! We started with the cornbread and spring rolls. I recommend both. We all got something different for our entree and shared sides! I went with the pork chop. If you eat pork, GET IT! It literally is so tender and well seasoned and flavorful! We also ordered the chicken, pasta, and fried salmon and grits. Everything was hot and delicious. For the sides we went with mac and cheese, collard greens, brussel sprouts, and truffle mashed potatoes. Kudos to the chef! 10/10 on everything! Flavorture has been on my list for a while and we finally made it. We were greeted and sat immediately for our reservation. Our server was pleasant and explained the menu to us. We ordered oysters for our appetizer and drinks. The 24th st cocktail was tasty and aesthetically pleasing. For my entree I decided on buffalo shrimp and the kale Caesar. Everything was bomb and met our expectations. The manager came over to greet us and make sure we were satisfied. I want to return to try their brunch. They have hookah during brunch. Step into a mix of Flavor & Culture, This is a black-owned business and as a DC native born and raised I appreciate everything that this restaurant and experience was when we visited for my first time. If terms like "standing on business" or "on my soul" could be put into flavor this restaurant would be the prime example of such. If someone from DC was to describe this experience in our lingo we'd probably say the following "Aye moe, errythang from dis jawn be hittin' from the service to the atmosphere to the food. If you ain't hit dis spot yet you lunching, get here! stamp " We had a variety of different foods from the wonderful cornbread with unique flavor due to the honey and rosemary butter cornbread, to lobster bisque with Brandy infused cream, to braise short rib sliders, to delicious Skillet mac and cheese, even the lemonade was freshly squeezed and tasted great! We also celebrated our one year anniversary and had a nice acknowledgment of this with a sign and champagne. We ended the night with delectable bread pudding with what tasted like a cinnamon based ice cream. Chef Pinke who is the owner has created a staple in the neighborhood for a wonderful cultural experience. Everything was nicely done and well prepared. The bar was also stocked really nicely and presentation with the lighting of the atmosphere was on point. They also had big Mike doing karaoke and you can ask for the "Big Mike special" of your drink which includes double of whatever you're having. This was such a memorable experience for us both and we will be sure to return, if you haven't been here already what are you waiting for? Get here! We liked everything about Flavorture. The ambience is very nice. The restaurant was quiet on the Saturday night when we went at 6:30. I had a 24th Street as a cocktail & liked it very much. The distinctive part was that dry ice had been added so there was steam floating up from it. The drink was sweet but good. For a starter we shared an order of broiled oysters. They were very tasty. For my entree I had the lamb chops prepared medium rare. They were spectacular! Perfectly prepared & very flavorful. Tom had one of the four that came in a serving. Tom had the lobster & blue crab scampi. He was very happy with it. His only criticism was that the lobster was hard to get out of the shell & had no problem. Upon entering they offer you a complimentary glass of champagne which is great. I do think they should fill it up just a little more but it definitely adds to the ambiance. A lot of the reviews spoke about service not being great. I had a great experience for the most part service was fast and timely we didn't have to wait for anything. The only down side is that our waiter didn't check on us enough and took a awhile to give us our bill. The food was great the corn bread was delicious it was sprinkled with ground cinnamon and was a great addition. The crab fried rice was great the only issue is there was (maybe mumbo sauce) covered don the rice and it was very unnecessary it took away from the amazing taste of the rice. The rice was a bit salty which was an issue for sure. The macaroni and cheese and broccolini were made to beyonfdddd perfection. I would come back specifically for these two items they were great. The Brussels tasted better the day after it was drenched in balsamic vinaigrette but it was still great ! The lamb chops were cooked perfectly as well. Omg!! The food was delicious. I ordered lamb chops with collard greens and mashed potatoes. My friend ordered salmon over rice. The food was so flavorful ( all the pun intended). I will most definitely order again. Also, we ordered the orange line which was an old fashion that had a great taste of cinnamon in it. We tried the Cajun oysters which were delicious as well. The brussels sprouts were crispy on the outside, but reallyyy soft on the inside. I never had it like that before and it was so good! The macaroni and cheese was perfection. I'm curious to know what the 10 cheeses are! The sides are a decent size and can be shared between at least 2 to 3 people. For our appetizers, we ordered oysters. There were only five and they were kind of small and a bit of a tease but I don't think that's any different from many of the other surrounding restaurants. It seemed like the drinks had a bit of a twist to them. I ordered the Richmond fizz, which usually has a thick layer of fizz on top, but this didn't. I came here for a birthday dinner and from beginning to end everything was absolutely amazing. The service was impeccable and every single thing we ordered was delicious. For starters, we had the charbroiled oysters which we loved! For main courses we had the crab fried rice, salmon, lamb chops and whole grilled branzino. I've never had better branzino! Was in town for a quick business trip and was looking for a place to unwind with a vibe. I enjoyed as soon as I walked in to be seated, I was greeted with a glass of champagne. I made a reservation which requires a $20 deposit but is taken off of your final bill. Since I was solo they seated me at the bar (it is not a big establishment). The bartender was great. I had such a pleasant experience at Flavorture. We had reservations right at the time in which they opened on Sunday, so seating for us was almost immediately and I would recommend a reservation. The food was spectacular from the rosemary butter croissant (super soft and delicious) to the flavorful chicken and waffles (appropriate for the name of the restaurant- Flavorture) to the charbroiled oysters (which are a good shareable size). The beverages did not disappoint either. If possible, it is more convenient to access it via metro, as it's walking distance to the restaurant, but if you can't there is nearby street parking. I absolutely loved the music they were playing which was mostly R&B and the decor - velvet green chair furnishings and table settings! This is a perfect place to go for dates, girl's day out, or just solo grabbing a bite to eat (they have limited bar seating too). Flavorture is on my running list of recommended DC brunch places to eat and I'd definitely go again! read more

We made reservations at exactly 11:00 to beat the rush. We tasted everything on the menu and even asked for seconds: * Mixed Fruit - sweet fruit, combination of berries, melons and grapes * Kale Salad - idk what the vinaigrette was, but baby, it needs to be sold *Shucked Oysters - delicious! * Omelette- (nor pictured) you are given a paper where you check off what you want in your omelette and it's brought to you when complete * Fried Deviled Egg, Mini Crab cake, salmon and friend green tomatoes - THAT ENTIRE PLATE WAS GOOD! The food was delicious, for appetizers we got the Caesar salad, prime rib sliders, cornbread, and oysters. The oysters were literally seasoned to perfection, mouthwatering! We all agreed 10/10, the best oysters I've ever had. The Caesar salad was okay, i think the kale made it difficult to absorb the dressing so it tasted a bit dry. Short rib sliders were pretty good too, sweet and savory! The cornbread... STAR of the show!!! It had a delicious honey butter touch to it. For entrees we got the salmon, steak, chicken and for sides Brussels, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes. This restaurant is one of those restaurants were you order everything separate. Salmon was 8/10, chicken 7/10 and rib eye 6/10. The steak was just a bit too sweet for my liking and didn't care for the seasoning. But for the size it's definitely worth the price. The salmon had a delicious ginger glaze to it. Chicken was paired nicely with sundried tomatoes and Cajun cream sauce. The sides were all delicious, one of the best Brussels I've had. The mashed potatoes and Mac were delicious too! The drinks were pretty good too! We had to make a reservation but even with the reservation, our table wasn't ready for another 10-15 min. I'll start by saying this... Y'all better run (don't walk) over to Flavorture to experience this relatively new black-owned restaurant located steps from the Woodley Park/Adams Morgan metro stop. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by a friendly hostess that offered us a complementary glass of champagne. Although the table was not yet ready upon arriving there were two seats that had just became available, so we opted to sit and wait a few minutes. Once our table was ready we were escorted to our table that was in almost a separate dinning area that has a few tables. I didn't mind because it seemed to be a little bit more intimate. For cocktails we started with the Orange line which had a little pizazz in presentation as it is served in a smoke box. I opted for the Charbroiled oysters with cajun garlic butter sauce as an appetizer. While they were good, they portion only comes with four small oysters, which left me wanting more since they were so good. We went the Stuffed Airline Chicken Breast and Grilled rosemary lamb chops as our entrees and we shared the roasted balsamic brussel sprouts, truffled mashed potatoes and 10 cheese mac & cheese. Baby let me just tell you our eyes were way bigger than our stomachs this night but that's ok because we for sure had leftovers for the next day. I will note that there is a 22% gratuity automatically added to all bills. So be prepared for this. Our server did let us know that they have a brunch and happy hour menu and when the weather officially breaks they will have outdoor seating. This place has a very nice aesthetic. The set up is very cozy. They were going for a dark look so everything outside of furniture are black. Pros: nice cozy location off of the Main Street. Not too much traffic going past if you're sitting outside. Please note that they do sell cigars so if you would like non smoking it's best to be seated inside. I ordered the lamb and even though given two pieces it was thick to where it was almost like 3. It also was very big chunks of meat and not skimpy pieces like what's normally given. The seats were very comfortable and a lovely shade of green velvet. Cons: The table was not leveled. So while attempting to cut into the land the table rocked. The knife given to cut the lamb could have been a bit sharper. The lamb was perfectly cooked so it shouldn't have been as difficult to cut into. Wasn't a team feeling amongst the crew. The lava cake was probably stored at a cold temperature which made it less lava feel and more just like regular chocolate cake. I noticed that when I came home and left it out to eat later that it was more of a lava feel as I ate it. Neutral: I never critique seasoning. I am not sure what the goal of the chef is. I do feel like the food was missing that umph to give a person a memory of where they are the best *insert food*. I'm the end I will say that it's a nice feel. If I had my choice of seating I'd choose the booth by the door. If you're looking for something cozy in this area this is the place. Made reservations for 8pm and arrived at 8:22pm technically 8:30pm upon parking. Street parking is available. I suggest Lyft, Uber or making an parking reservation thru ParkWhiz. The lights are dimmed in the main dining area. Velvet dining chairs. The chairs are emerald color which is my birth stone. Love it. They have additional dining area which is like a private dining room. Has a barn style door. When we arrived we were greeted and welcomed. The hostess asked if we had reservations which we did and than asked which one of us was celebrating our birthday which I notated when I booked the reservation. My cousin responded it was her birthday. The hostess than stated they had a gift for her and offered us complimentary champagne. My cousin declined the champagne because she is expecting but they were flexible and gave her apple cider at her request. Now when seated we did wait a little while before someone e acknowledged us but that gave us the time to study the menu and decide on what we wanted. One of the servers that was servicing another table noticed us and said she would get our server. Our server came shortly after and service was back on track. Nate greeted us with a smile and wished my cousin happy birthday. My cousin started with Shirley temple, sparkling water, vegan egg rolls, lobster bisque, and house bread. I ordered the charbroiled oysters and the orange line. The turn around time for food delivery was impressive. Nate brought the sparkling water out first for the two of us. Poured a cup for her and myself leaving the bottles on the tap with the remaining water. Minutes later the vegan eggrolls and my orange line drink came out with a smoke show presentation. Now Nate presented it to my cousin as if she had ordered it and when I tired to tell him it was mine he still proceeded to present to her. After the presentation the house bread and charbroiled oysters came out. The vegan eggrolls were delicious and pack with flavor. The eggroll is cut down to serve as 4 pieces. The bread was a light with a crumbly texture and sweet aroma. The charbroiled were petite but the fixings was a match made in heaven. Small but mighty in taste. Once done the lobster bisque came out and at first we were confused because the bowl was placed on the table with just lobster piece but the runner was standing to the side to pour the bisque in. That's what u call dining with an experience. My cousin ranted and raved about the soup so much when Nate came back I was like give me a spoon cause she hyping it up. It was rich, creamy and flavorful. For entrees my cousin ordered Grilled Lobster & Blue Crab scampi and collard greens with smoke turkey as an side. I ordered the Fried Sea bass with the smoked Gouda grits and roasted balsamic Brussel sprouts as my side. Food came shortly after and baby the presentation was beautiful so you know I was ready to dig in but not before I got footage and pictures. The portion size was generous. The sea bass was fried to perfection not overly seasoned and easy to cut into. The flesh was moist, buttery, and tender, with firm medium-sized flakes like haddock. The grits was had a hint of sweetness but the Gouda took it to the next level drizzled with the Cajun sauce. I had a fork full of my cousin pasta without the crab meat because I'm allergic but the sauce use was flavorful. The greens were so good. Like I was suppose to sample it and damn near almost ate it all. The brussel sprouts were crispy and flavorful. To end the dining experience I ordered the Peach cobbler bread pudding and the red line drink. I was stuffed so I only had an scoop or two of bread pudding which seemed to taste good to me. The red line drink was STRONG and much needed. A good way to end the night. The bill automatically includes 22% which is split with the staff. Normally when the tip is included the service is mediocre but not this place. Stellar service. The staff seems to work well with each other. We went to celebrate my baby sister's birthday. We had reservations. You have to pay $20 per person for the reservation which will be applied to your bill. We wanted to make a change to the reservation but there was no answer to the calls and left a message through the open table app. We each ordered different entree and shared. The birthday girl ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops, another sister ordered a grilled pork chopped and I ordered the grilled Branzino. We ordered Mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts as a sides. It was all FABULOUS! The corn bread was delicious as a starter. Then we had a surprise birthday cheesecake for the birthday girl. I ordered the chocolate cake as a dessert. It was huge! The ambience of the venue was night club like. The chairs were a bit low for the high tables. Chairs were very comfortable for seating but too low for the reach. Faith, who was our server was delightful. One odd thing was my older sister arrived while we were parking and was told to sit at the bar until we arrived. While that may not be significant to many, sitting at a bar isn't comfortable for some folks who don't frequent bars. It also was odd since the space was pretty empty. The other thing to be aware of there is a "service fee" that is applied. It really is a tip that guarantees that you give 20%. I would rather they say that the tip is required. Changing the name is deceptive in my opinion. read more

Def will be back to try more dishes here. Came here for a bday dinner. I def remember the Kale salad being a hit, along with the buffalo shrimp! The grilled lobster and crab scampi was also top tier! This place is small but the de core is amazing and creates a vibe. Furthermore, their service was very much so on point and their wait times are minimal when getting food. I went here spontaneously for my birthday. I had set up a reservation (just in case), which they usually hold a $20 fee for. Once I arrived, they were unaware that I had a reservation until I told them. Then later mentioned it when I was paying the bill. I sat at the bar, the vibes seemed cool, however it appeared like the staff was overwhelmed. The service wasn't the best and took a while for myself and others to order and receive drinks and food. The food overall was decent. My issue is that i seemingly was charged an additional $20 two days after I dined there. I will say the pending charge confused me and now I see that it actually went through. Not sure what this charge is for but i find this odd and problematic. Overall a decent spot, but i think they need to get their affairs and how they're randomly charging people in order. read more

Stopped by Flavorture, for the first time, for brunch this past weekend and I was extremely pleased -- this didn't disappoint at all! Brunch in DC is a big thing, no matter the weekend, so of course the restaurant was packed upon arrival. While the restaurant is rather small, it's to be expected given the area the restaurant is in. Nevertheless, the liveliness of the restaurant and the DJ playing my favorite music quickly took my mind off how small the space was. I was seated in the area in the back and the decor and aesthetic gave exactly what I hoped it would -- modern and upscale. There were chandeliers and balloon fixtures in the ceiling and the tableware was perfectly situated and cute also. For food, I tried charbroiled oysters to start and while they were just OK, my entree, the Cajun Shrimp and Grits, made up for where the oysters lacked. My friends both ordered wings (sweet jerk flavored wings and plain fried wings) and Mac and cheese and they both said the meal exceeded their expectations. The service was a bit slow, but our server, the manager, and the kitchen staff were all very apologetic for the time it took for us to receive our meal. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Flavorture and will definitely be returning to try out more of their menu very soon. read more

The complimentary sangria at the door was great! We had a reservation and we're seated immediately. Our server greeted us and she was very pleasant. I can say the place was a bit cramped, no big deal but I would prefer more space around me. Now to the food, I started with the cornbread which was more cake like more than cornbread. I am not a fan of it but the group was fine with. I can say the cornbread had too much cinnamon on it. it was almost unnecessary. Ok so the mambo wings are freaking great but 6 wings for $15-16 is crazy. The oysters were so small, not worth it at all. I've had charbroiled oysters from Louisiana and Maryland and those were definitely at the BOTTOM of my list. Just very small and not meaty at all. The truffle fries were fine, can't mess those up. And the Mac and cheese was pretty good. I was very impressed by it actually. The tuna was a 6.5/10. Not completely terrible but I've definitely had better. Overall, I would not go back. The appetizers portions are small and the entree options are not terrible, just ok. The highlight of my time there was the wings and Mac and cheese. But don't go there hungry or you'll spend a pretty penny for no reason. I would give a 2.5/5 but our server was awesome and I appreciate her. read more

The food was delicious, 10/10 across the board. Definitely try their house bread/ corn bread. They have karaoke Thursday-Saturday (I believe) which is a fun vibe. The only problem is the service took very long and we would go by without a waiter for 30 minutes+ at a time. It was not a busy night either. But overall nice ambiance & good food. read more
