Love Fletchers so much! They're late hours are perfect after a show or event downtown. Perfect food and the best Caesar salad.

Ate here several times over the course of the week, trying several different dishes. Most in-house restaurants aren't good enough to write home about but this one may be. While it wasn't absolutely amazing, deciding to go down stairs for a meal rather than going out was not a let down. I might go so far as to say its worth driving to even when you have other options. read more

*SPOILER: FOOD POISONING ALERT" I'd give two or three stars, but the end of this gives me reason to post a 1-star review. My wife and I have been to Fletcher's once in person in 2019, and from my memory it was "literally ok". We reserved a table days in advance, and when we got there, we got slapped right in a corner by the kitchen. I don't recall the food really, but it wasn't memorable enough to recall now. Anyway, fast forward to Coronavirus 2020 in full swing. We want Fletcher's, she gets oysters and bacon wrapped shrimp. I order a simple cheese pizza. I'll get my pizza out of the way first... It was awful. Tried pulling out a slice and the cheese stayed connected to the pizza while the crust did not. I don't know how you mess up a cheese pizza, but they did. Managed to put enough parmesan and red chili pepper flakes to mask the lack of taste. Dominoes makes a vastly superior pizza with 100% less snobbery, and for a far cheaper price. Now the main event! This is what we all come here to read... The oysters and bacon wrapped shrimp. Hilariously overpriced for a a couple of (might have been 3) shrimp. Oysters... Wife eats one. Starts saying it tastes like it's foul. Doesn't eat anymore. Couple hours pass by... She starts throwing up and convulsing. For half an hour straight, she was throwing up and in extreme pain before I took her to the ER at Alaska Regional. Verdict? Food poisoning from oysters. Be very careful about this place. If you want to kill someone with food poisoning, you've found the right joint in downtown Anchorage. If you go late at night, you could get stabbed and end your misery. read more

We ended up eating here after our other plans changed. We sat at the bar. The drinks were perfect. We had the lasagna bolognese and seafood scampi. Finishing touch was peanut butter pie!! Service was great even though the restaurant was very busy! read more

Been here a few times. First time had the halibut on a cracker salad and loooved it. Then second time ordered 3 items. Pasta, a salad and a sandwich. The fish was over cooked on every item. Everything I asked for was with no bacon. Ans then bacon came on one of the items. Could here they staff talking in the back saying it was my mistake when I literally asked the server if there was any bacon in any item I ordered. I just picked up a fish entree and this is what it looked like in the picture shown. $36. What is this? Ans they forgot the sauce so I had to run back just so it had flavor. I hadn't been to Fletcher's in years. It was as good as I remembered. It's a beautiful bar in the lovely Captain Cook Hotel. I had the fish n chips which was very good. It was not busy in there and the service was attentive. The fish was fresh and moist, so delicious. After my meal I walked around the ground floor of the hotel and visited some of the wonderful shops and admired the artwork in the lobby that is inspired by Captain Cook's voyages. read more

As guests of the Hotel Captain Cook we decided to give Fletcher's a try for lunch. I loved the decor. The wood paneling and tin ceiling, and burgundy colored upholstery made me feel I was sitting in a fancy restaurant from another time. On closer inspection our table and corner seating area could have used a deep cleaning. There were dried on spills over spills in the corner of my booth seat and the table felt tacky. There is also no restroom in the restaurant. The only restroom is located in the basement of the hotel. Now for the food. I had the steak sandwich with a spinach salad, my husband had the Fletcher burger with a Caesar salad. My steak sandwich was cooked exactly as I wanted and the steak was tender and juicy. The spinach salad was fresh and delicious. My husband enjoyed his burger and salad as well. Service was on the slow side but we were served with a smile by a very nice waitress. I would eat here again and recommend anyone staying at Hotel Captain Cook give Fletcher's a try. read more

Returning from a land tour of Alaska to Anchorage we stayed at the Captain Cook hotel, Fletcher's is located in the hotel and a real gem. Dre our server was excellent, polite, attentive and welcoming. The Seafood chowder is outstanding, great mix of Salmon and clams in a cream base. The pizza was very good, thin crust with good topping options. Food quality is great and prices reasonable for the area and quality of food. Enjoy! read more

Is it lame that I'm sitting here, eating dinner, and writing a review at the same time? Yes? Oh well, I'm sure it's also rude but I don't care about that, either. I'm staying at the Hotel Captain Cook for work this week and even though I vowed not to eat at the hotel (except for breakfast, which I missed this morning), I find myself eating at the hotel. I didn't have a proper meal all day today so after dumping off my stuff in my room upstairs, I stumbled down to the closest restaurant to my room, Fletcher's, with laptop in tow. The service is really friendly and I'm guessing that this place is crazy busy during the summer. But right now, as the temperatures are subzero and the volcanic eruption of Mt Redoubt is imminent, there are plenty of empty tables and seats at the bar. The hostess was nice enough to seat me in the corner where I can play on my laptop while eating dinner. The waitress is super nice and checks up on me without judging my uncouth behavior. Oh, and the food is the yum! (Or I could be so hungry that I don't care... not sure which yet.) They give you warm bread to start with butter (or oil and vinegar). I ordered a small Chop salad and an order of Steak Frites! All good! Anyway, I want to continue eating instead of typing, so I leave you with the story that is on the placemats here: THE UNKNOWN VOYAGE OF FLETCHER CHRISTIAN We all know how Fletcher Christian mutinied on the Bounty. But what happened after that? Now, through new discoveries, the truth can be told. Fletcher was bringing the Bounty back to England when he stopped in Italy for supplies. The Italians, he found, had some tasty dishes. But Fletcher, with his slightly rebellious nature, added his own personal touches to the cuisine. Fletcher brought them to England where Captain Cook discovered them. Cook brought them along on his famous voyage to Turnagain Arm. And we found his buried trasure of recipes just the other day. I heard that a new menu was debuting here, and decided to give it a shot. WOW! What a difference from my last visit! Great service and deliciousness! I scanned the menu and saw that the pizzas and sandwiches were generally unchanged. Some new additions got my attention. I was with a friend and we split a bowl of the seafood chowder. Our server, Jimmy, generously split the order into two good-sized mugs. Imagine this comment in bold capital letters and underlined: The best chowder I've ever eaten!!! Creamy, but not too rich. Lots of sea meat, and just the right thickness. I had the lamb Osso Bucco which came with roasted carrots, fingerling potatoes, and served on a bed of polenta. I liked the veggies, but I could have done without the polenta. It absorbed too much of the sauce. The lamb was good, but the braising liquid would benefit with the addition of a little more wine to boost the flavor a bit. I forked my way into my friend's dish, Lasagna Bolognese, and OMG! Meaty, cheesy, and full of flavor. From what I understand, this pasta was one of the few dishes that survived the menu purge, and I'm glad it made the cut. Excellent makeover Fletcher! read more

Great pizza! I recommend the Sicilian and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. The peanut butter pie is also good!

I really enjoyed the ambiance of this restaurant; in a classic early 20th century style, complete with wood paneling, deep seated dining armchairs, sconce lighting and ornate metal ceiling adornments. I honestly felt like Rose Dawson from the movie Titanic. Surprisingly, the entrees are quite reasonable and affordable; I had the grilled prawns risotto for $14, with a glass of excellent wine ($8). The service was very good. I would definitely bring back some friends who've never been to Anchorage. read more

After getting in at night, I was looking for a bite to eat, a cold beer, and some sports. I followed the guidance provided by other yelpers and dined at Fletchers since I was staying at the Captain Cook. I'm so glad I came in here! I had a bowl of the seafood chowder and it was TO DIE FOR! Creamy, just the right thickness, and chock full of yummy seafood. After a snafu at trying to eat at the Crows Nest the next evening, I returned back to Fletchers and tried their beef stroganoff. It's a very creative take on this classic dish. It too was delicious and you bet I had it with a cup of the chowder. Beware! The portions are YUUUUGE! I was not able to finish the whole dish. Others have said the burgers are really good as are the pizzas and bison meatballs. If you get in later in the evening, make sure to stop by here. 3 1/2 STARS Lovely place in the Hotel Captain Cook. The pub-like ambiance and service are great. Sadly, the food doesn't match it. I had the Caesar salad & it was average. I also had a 1/2 order if Spaghetti & Meatballs. It was on the limp side of al dente and the large meatballs were nice but flavorless. I liked the ambiance and my waitperson (Alicia) was professional and pleasant. This place could be a real winner, but it cries out for a proper chef in the kitchen. read more

I'm so glad this restaurant and bar is able to operate during COVID. Our sever Jimmy is by far the best I've ever met. Two nights in a row his customer service remained Solid. His memory is superb considering he deals with customers on a daily basis. His recommendations for foods was right on target. The food here is great, the drinks are worth the $$$. Took us a bit to get a seat but it was so worth the wait once we got our drinks. They were fixed perfectly. Pricing on drinks and meal was very fair. I got the halibut and it was full of flavor and moist. Hubby got the ribeye and while it was a good portion the taste was a bit off. Not sure I would order that again. I was staying at the Capt. Cook and, given the current staus of the Covid, take out was the only option. That being said, I could not have asked for much more. The caesar salad was fantastic! Not a dumbed down, mayonaise-heavy type that you see in most Italian joints, this one was full of garlic to the point of spiciness(as it should be)! While $20 seems like alot for spaghetti and meatballs, it was well worth it. The pasta and the marinara were cooked to perfection. The meatballs were unlike any I have ever had. They add pancetta or some other type of ground bacon. So, while they are not traditional tasting, I think most people will appreciate the slightly smoky taste that they provide for something different. All in all, a VERY SOLID meal. At the end of a long travel day, we decided to eat here as it was in our hotel. Sometimes the best decisions are the easiest ones! Food was excellent but what really made the meal memorable was our server, Christopher. He provided great service and really engaged out table. He was funny and attentive. Food was excellent, had the seated Halibut and it was great. Wife had the crispy chicken sandwich and it was above average. Stuffed prawns were outstanding! Service is what brings down the score. Bartender has a hard time staying behind the bar and seems overwhelmed with all the orders. All male waiter staff is less than attentive to the needs at the tables. I just realized I wrote the most boring, innocuous review for Fletcher's FTR. Blasphemy. For those of you who would like to read about the cuisine of Fletcher's, by all means, check out my brief initial review. But to obfuscate Fletcher's behind their cuisine and leave out their bar altogether is absolutely criminal. I used to come up here all the time for work. After a particularly upsetting deposition (upsetting because my client was useless and opposing counsel was ripping her to shreds), I decided to temporarily drown my sorrows at the bar. One of the most interesting items about Fletcher's is that the handles on their drafts are actually oosik. Oosik, of course, if an Eskimo word for walrus penis. Yes, I wrote a review of this bar without even mentioning this and I have no idea how that happened. Anyhow, opposing counsel meanders into the bar and immediately starts into how the chagrin on my face was palpable during the earlier deposition. We shared a couple of laughs and before you know it, she is spilling her life story to me. The important part of this is that it included the following important facts: 1) that she was recently single, 2) that she was staying at the hotel overnight as well, and 3) that she was looking for oosik. Indeed, she even took a photo of herself pulling down a couple of draft handles at the Fletcher's bar. Uncanny. The bartenders here are phenomenal. They are simultaneously professional and fun. This is an awesome bar to relax after having an intense afternoon. I miss Fletcher's. If I find myself back in Anchorage, you can rest assured I'll head back to this relaxing hotel bar located in the heart of downtown. read more

We stayed at the hotel and reached late when the restaurant was closing down. I must have looked really hungry and sad that the chef sent me back to my room with some wonderful soup and amazing rye bread. And did not charge us. So we went back the next night and had an amazing meal. We had a Greek salad, a halibut sandwich and a scrumptious vanilla creme brûlée. Great atmosphere and bar. read more

Came here after my disappointing Simon and Seafort's dinner to wallow over some drinks. Place packed, but we managed to shuffle some folks at the bar to allow us two spaces. Ambiance is old school charm with dark wood, brass accents and leather seating. Damn, maybe this is where we should of had dinner instead, I thought. I had my usual Whiskey & Ginger Ale. This time around I had Knob Creek. We sat there and ate bar nuts and eavesdropped on a rather unflattering dude's attempts to pick up a cougar out of his league. The guy had game and surprisingly struck a conversation with his intended prey. She ended up having dinner at the bar while he continued to converse about his accounting business and having just given a lecture in the nearby banquet room. The seafood risotto she ordered looked pretty good. She said it was amazing. But given she hung on every word from Mr. Unflattering, I doubt her discretion. Disinterested, we headed out and called it a night. From the variety of stars this place has received, it seems a crap shoot. Personally, I'd totally come here again and rub elbows with old money. I spend more time in Fletcher's with colleagues during conferences or on work trips for informal work discussions over drinks (would be 5 stars for just the bar). Ordering food is usually an afterthought and often a regret. I'll eat there if I don't want to leave the hotel, but I almost always wish afterwards that I'd just walked a couple blocks down to the mall and went to the food court. But alas, no Guinness at the food court. Last night I ordered a special: gnocchi with blue cheese, bacon, and spinach. I like blue cheese but didn't expect the entire dish to be dominated by it like it was. It was also overly salty. I didn't finish it. My wife and I also ordered the stuffed prawns as an appetizer: shrimp stuffed with Dungeness crab and wrapped in bacon ($15) which looked delicious, but was unremarkable and only turned out to be three relatively small "prawns" or what I like to call "large shrimp." My wife ordered the Rustic Seafood melt: salmon, seasonal fresh fish, shrimp, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, capers and provolone, served open face on focaccia. The focaccia was soggy and the melt was, again, unremarkable. She got through about half of it. I finished it and would give it three stars as a dish, but probably wouldn't order it again. The funny thing is, we know better. My wife said it best, "We should just stick to the pizza here. It's not bad." The service is always great though and the ambiance is nice (fancy English pub style with leather chairs and stained/cut glass windows). Our last visit was COLD, however which definitely detracted from the usually nice atmosphere. Granted, it was -5F outside, but I expect a restaurant to be able to maintain room temperature even when it is cold outside. read more

They say everything happens for a reason....... This was a last resort for us one night as we were staying at the Cook for our anniversary. We had reservations in the Hotel's upscale restaurant and for some reason or other didn't feel like dressing up to go. We threw on some jeans and headed down to the lobby and settled on Fletcher's. It was the best decision we made because otherwise we would have never found this place! It is usually packed with tourists in fanny packs and bad Alaska sweathshirts but for a good reason. The food is excellent, affordable and fast. High quality food for a low price. Good size bar menu, excellent sandwiches full of flavor and beer by the yard (so cheesy but so fun). Locals-give it a try. You will add it to your dining out list. read more
