Tried it a couple times, not as good as the one in Vista (which is odd since you would think they use the same recipes??). They state on the website they close at 8pm, the last two times I have called have been at 6:30pm and 7pm and both times they have told me they aren't taking any more orders as they are closing early due to be short staffed. It takes one person to work the phones and register and one to make pizzas...how short staffed can you be? Update your hours or stay open, but to answer the phone to say you are closing early doesn't make a lot of sense. read more

We are regular ordered a and because we live a mile away and because we understand the pressure on businesses post-COVID, to get hiring back up, we pick up. We never have issues in our order and pizza quality is consistent. We do order early since we have a young kid and early dinner hour, but have never had an issue of an order not being made as mentioned below. I've never been to NY, so I can't attest to the pizza there, but I imagine that Flippin' Pizza has set the bar and created a place for me to be able to critique some of the heavy-hitters in NY. I ordered two pizzas on-line for pick-up at 8:15pm. My husband arrived just before 9pm to pick up the pizzas. They told him they were closed and didn't have our pizzas because "they couldn't make the pizza in time". Though we received a confirmation email stating that our order was being processed, they claimed they called us numerous times to let us know that they would not be making our order. Neither of us had missed calls on our phone. What we don't understand is how they couldn't make our pizzas in the 45 minutes window between when I ordered them and when they closed. For in this crisp time when summer is in full swing, the evening sun shined down on this glorious pizza spot. The heat was in the air, humid but refreshing. I walked in, the cook slapped and tossed the delectable dough, displaying the pizza simply smooth yet so eloquent. I could easily perceive the za twas delicious, that New York style as my grandfather made in my wee years. The heat inside the restaurant with those ovens blasting is warm yet restrained, a hint of sauna with the smell of familiarity. Yuck! This place is like visiting a frat house during rush. Overrun by teenage boys throwing pizza dough at the walls to see if it sticks. No masks, no gloves, no evidence of cleaning (flour coating all the surfaces sprinkled with enough finger prints to let you know it hasn't been wiped recently). 2 pour slobs "flipp'n" dough while the rest of them playing around ignoring everything around them. I've tried SO many times in the past few Years to get behind this place. I've put up with the insanely delayed orders, the errors, the missing items, cold pizzas, etc. Tonight I've decided I'm done. I ordered a pizza exactly 2 hours ago, after I was told it would take "60-75 mins". Called at 90 mins in and was told the driver "just left." Just called again 30 mins later and was again told the driver "just left". I asked to speak to mgr and was put on hold only to be told they were too busy to speak to me. I'm over it. For a strip mall pizza, this place is good, similar to Bronx and Pizzeria Luigis. Can't say there's anything better in all of North County Carlsbad area. Check it out. The whitestone is my all time favorite. This one is good. 3 Slices of pizza for just under $9. Soda fountain available for free bubbly water (I don't do soda.) I had my 3 slices at lunch.... while listening to 80s music. They also gave me a Flippin Pizza Scratcher! I scratched and won a FREE SLICE! 4 woofs I'm rounding up. My daughter likes this place a lot because they don't add a whole bunch of pizza sauce on their pies. She's real picky when it comes to that. They have a wide variety of slices awaiting every customer from a meat lovers version to basic cheese or Margherita. The lunch deal is noteworthy for two slices and a soda for $6. The slices are pretty good sized too. I can usually get away with one order (two slices) for both my girls. They also give out dough balls for kids to play with. I won't be returning to flippin pizza. I ordered my food online for pickup. The wait time was listed as 45 mins. Seems really long but ok, fine. I arrived at flippin 45 minutes later. Several employees were standing there doing nothing and didn't bother to acknowledge that a customer had entered their shop. I asked about my order and was told that they hadn't started working on it yet and it would be another 25 minutes. The employee I spoke with had a nasty attitude and flatly informed me that the online ordering tool is "broken". We moved into the area about 6 months ago and have been slowly trying out the local businesses. This past Sunday night it was Flippin' Pizza's turn. We wanted to watch the SNF game, so we ordered pickup so I could check out the restaurant, see what they're about and check on any specials they have. When I walked in, the place was clean and cozy. The waitstaff was quite friendly and it was neat to see them making the pizzas right in front of you. I walked to the counter, paid for my pizza, asked a few questions to get to know the place (Thursday nights are half off beer night! $9 pitchers!). Everything seemed like we were on the track for a great pizza and football night...until we started eating. We ordered a large sausage, pepper and onion pizza and, thanks to the Yelp check-in, we got free Buffalo Bites. Think of the Buffalo Bites as a tiny calzone with buffalo chicken in it. They were pretty tasty. The pizza, however, was a different story. There wasn't anything that tasted bad on the pizza. Actually, there wasn't anything that had taste on the pizza. No seasoning in the crust, the veggies were bland and somehow, they managed to use sausage that was flavorless. It was actually impressive how little flavor it had. The only thing that made the pizza worth eating was the copious amount of Cholula and ranch dressing we dumped on it. I'll give them another try, but I'm not overly optimistic. When we go, I think it'll be on a Thursday night to take advantage of their beer special. Hopefully I can update this review with better news. read more

My coworkers and I called in an order to this Flippin' Pizza. The Vista one is actually closer to us, the one off Melrose, but they are temporarily closed. But the La Costa one isn't too far, and when I called in, they said we were on the cusp of the 4 mile radius and they said they'd still deliver. Sweet! We had been looking at the menu for this place since Wednesday for ordering Friday. When I called in Thursday to ask a few questions, they said they'd be more than happy to take our order and deliver it the following day. Sweet! We ordered: - Whitestone Pizza (+ chicken $4.00) - Buffalo Chicken Pizza -Union Calzone (has meatballs, bell peppers, and mushrooms in it) - garlic knots (1 order is 6 pieces) - pepperoni bites ($3.50 1 order is 3 pieces) - small salad - around $90.00 not including tip My favorite was the Whitestone and the garlic knots! The calzone was tasty but the bottom was super soggy, maybe we didn't eat it fast enough. Buffalo Chicken was a lil dry for my liking. Garlic knots trump the pepperoni bites, they were tastier. So we ordered 3 orders of pepperoni bites, and I swear they didn't give us our third order! I called and told them that, and they said they will deliver them. But then they called back (they decided to go straight to vmail and not talk to me), and said their manager delivered it and he swears there were 3 orders in there. Ok whatever. We are from East Coast and this is our go to place locally. Friendly staff and consistent flavor and quality.

My friend ordered pizza for pick-up on a Thursday night and we were surprised by how busy the restaurant was. I suppose that's always a good sign to be slammed on a weekday though. We had to wait about 30 minutes to pick up our order but when we arrived, it was ready to go. Our cheese pizza had the perfect combination of cheese and sauce. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up sending my friend's husband back for a second pizza later that evening. We also got a side of garlic knots and I'd recommend adding them to your order. If you're not in the mood for a whole pizza, they also sell pizza by the slice. read more

Came here a few weeks ago and forgot to upload pics and review. Was getting a haircut at SuperCuts and decided to eat lunch here with my husband. He's from New York and we have been trying to find a pizza joint that mimics NY pizza. The pizza here was super delicious. We ordered the buffalo chicken, I got the Brooklyn and I forgot the name of the white pizza. That have a stone/brick oven which made the pizzas even tastier. The garlic knots were good too but the mariners sauce was alright. Overall this place is good, only downside was anything besides a pizza slice took forever to cook. Ok pizza, but inaccurate wait time estimates. They say 20-30 minutes, but they really mean 50-60 minutes. It's happened to me the past 3 times ordering there. I arrive when they say it will be ready, but then I'm told to wait 20 more minutes after arriving. Management is to figure this out. Update: Wait times are better now, but I've been here 3 times during covid and multiple staff members are either not wearing masks or are having their nose hang out. Some of the staff did wear masks, but this place has a major problem with staff mask compliance compared to other places. I kept trying to support them since they're the closest place to me and they've gotten better with wait time estimates, but the health issues make me worry that it's the tip of the iceberg. Flippin' Pizza is a solid NY-style pizza chain. I have always liked their original Carlsbad location downtown, which for some reason is called Knockout Pizza. I'm not sure why there are two brands, but regardless, the pizza is the same, and here at the La Costa location it is easier to park. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas, but my fave is the Whitestone, with ricotta, mozzarella, parmezan, fresh garlic & basil. I'm also cool with a simple slice of my good friend, pepperoni. The crust on all the Flippin' pizzas is nice and thin - I like my slices well-done, with some definite crisp underneath - just a little bit singed. I usually do the lunch specials, where I get for $6 (it used to be $5) a slice, a salad & a drink. I used to like the salads a lot, but the last couple times I've gone they've been good, bad and most recently, ok. They used to do a spinach salad, which I really enjoyed, but I think that's gone now? I also love the garlic knots, but I'm afraid Flippin' may be jumping the shark a bit with their pepperoni bites. I'm just sayin. Flippin' has added so many locations, and they are doing the francise thing, so I hope they stay true to their original vision. Local New York style pizzeria. They offer dine-in, shared sidewalk seating that faces the parking lot, and local delivery. The parking is ample, except when a sports team crashes the place. It is a bit small for that type of venue. THE PIES Thin crust and calzone only, plus odds and ends, like salad, garlic knots, mini pepperoni and buffalo bites, etc. The kids like the bites, but I find them to be more of a novelty. The pizzas are available by the pie or the slice, which makes lunch economical and quick. Did I mention their pizza is awesome? Like most freshly baked pies that do not include stabilizers or preservatives, the pie is great when hot and fresh, but inconsistent when cold or reheated in a microwave. Toaster oven only... Their pesto is the best in town, period. Know that before you decide what to put I your slice or pie. One minor demerit - East Coasters will want a bowl of gravy (sauce) to go with their calzone and you can get one here, but you'll be disappointed. It isn't Mom's gravy. Likewise, Chicagoans, the pies are thin and you can't get a menu like Giordano's. For what you come for, this place is good, though. THE DRINKS I'm not a drinker anymore, but their selection on tap looks decent. Today, it is Maui Brewing Company, Longfin, Port Brewing, Saint Archer White Ale, Jamaica Red Ale, and Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA. There is a self serve soda machine for the kids, which doubles as a club soda and water dispenser. THE STAFF Super friendly, attentive, and considerate of their patrons needs. They call me by name and ask if I want the usual when I call or come by. MARKETING PROGRAMS They give back to the community with their programs, though their calendar is typically booked months in advance and they tend to favor schools over individual programs (e.g. The 3 Day Walk).
