We sought out Flips for a quick bite before going to a show at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage. The souvlaki plate with fries was very good, the salad was just adequate. Flips hotdogs and fries are mediocre. Typical corner spot in comparison to Teddy's Red Hots, Four Corners. Hot dogs come with relish mustard, onions, tomatoes sport peppers exc. Average size on a white bun. Fries aren't bad either however they are salted differently depending on who is working. Small serving of fries with meal but thicker cut. I rated this a 3 based on presentation, quality, and service. Very friendly staff and clean store. 3.5 would be more accurate for a rating if available. The menu is very much similar to Doggie Diner not to far from the same taste in hotdogs. Flips my be half an inch shorter and different kind of beef. I work at EWC in Glen Ellyn and frequent Flips OFTEN, however today I had an experience that has changed my mind about spending another dollar there. I ordered a Grilled Chicken on pita for the hundredth time. Apparently there is 2 different ways of preparing. I've only ever had it with Lettuce, Tomato and Mayo. I got it today and it had Onion, Tomato and Ziti sauce (may be spelled incorrectly). I called to tell them I was coming back to get the sandwich corrected. When I arrived I had to wait again... I assume the son of the actual owners or someone related because he kept saying this was his families restaurant and this is how they ALWAYS make it. He had a very crappy attitude and had all intention on not taking any ownership of the miscommunication. He only wanted to be right and for me to be wrong. This simple error turned into a full blown argument all because I asked him to stop saying the same thing over and over to me. I just wanted my sandwich so I could eat. Someone had a bad day and now turned mine as well. I won't be returning and I will discontinue telling my guests about it as well. Thanks owners son or nephew or family member for ruining my favorite lunch spot in Glen Ellyn. He made it very clear that my business was not needed. read more

Flip's is a great place to go when you want tasty food served up fast, affordable, and with a side dish of heart attack. Their fries really make you think they were just made out of oil and salt without the potato...but they're somehow delicious. This is my neighborhood non-chain grease joint. It's got a cozy little dining area and is kept clean. I've had a few different things here. I like the spicy Italian sausage and their fries haven't ever disappointed. It's a bit hit-or-miss though on the different sandwiches/entrees. You definitely can get your grease fix here if that is what you are shooting for. Biggest complaint - poor ketchup - it is so important to have quality ketchup. Suggest some Heinz or Hunts for a big improvement. read more

Really good food for fast food. We were traveling through glen ellyn and decided to try this place out. Got gyros and italian beef, all of which was excellent. I especially liked how not great the meat was and how they definitely don't skimp on the meat, could barely hold my sandwich it was overflowing. The fries were also surprisingly non greasy. I love Flips, would go for almost anything on the menu. The burgers, salads,subs, beefs, and gyro's are all fantastic.They only lose a star from me for two things. 1. The pork kebabs are bland. 2. Don't even try to get delivery off yelp through GrubHub. I have been disappointed 3 times in a row and will not even bother in the future. It really is a angry moment when everyone has put their order in, you go to pay, and it says 'this business is not taking delivery orders at this time, please try anothe of our businesses." They should not show available and waste my time in the first place. I am fed up with GrubHub and will not use them ever again. Ever since I was a little girl my dad took my to Flip's. I love love love love, this place. Its a cheap place to get a hot dog. It may not be portillos quality but for 6 bucks I can get two hot dogs a generous amount of fries and a generous amount of pop. The only thing I have to complain about is the parking. Food is good. Service is great. Prices are reasonable. Wife wanted tzatziki sauce on the side. Got home and there was no tzatziki sauce. She called to complain. She wanted to come pick up the sauce and get a new gyro for free because hers would be cold by the time she arrived back home. I thought they would tell her to take a walk as is all too often the attitude of mom and pop owned businesses.To my surprise, they agreed. Subsequently I went to get take out. I grew up in Chicago and I appreciate the family owned Hot Dog/Beef stand neighborhood place. The chain restaurants are good, but I like to spread my patronizing around and support my local joints. People are nice and service is fast. Expansive menu for a small-ish place. Great choices are: Gyros, Fries, Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich and Burgers. Good prices (except for the "pop"). Flips is a generous supporter of the local Little Leagues ... I like that. Parking spaces are limited. I was looking for a reasonably priced restaurant that wasn't going to cost me an arm and leg. I was tired of the nearby KFC and McDonalds. Of course I read the reviews online before I came. I was concerned because the restaurant was crowded and I only had 30 minutes to get my food. The line moved pretty fast, and the workers has their stuff together and in order. I ordered the gyros meal. I was pleasantly surprised when I checked in on Yelp with the 10% off order coupon. It's not much, but it helps. I was in and out in 10 minutes which is also good. I was anxious to see what the good reviews were about. The gyros was very good! Seasoned just right and not a lot of salt. It's rare that you find a gyros that's not salty. They used more seasonings and less salt. Very good and very smart move! The fries on the other hand was overcooked. I could barely eat them and had to pick off the overcooked pieces. They would've got 5 stars, but the overcooked fries ruined the potentially perfect rating. read more

Very interesting place. I went here for the yelp check-in special of 20% your order, which was higher than anyone else was offering. You get a lot for your money, but I don't think I'll be returning. Nothing personal about them, but their large menu isn't very extensive. Well, that depends on what you want. If you want 6 different variations of hot dogs or hamburgers, then fine. They didn't have a single patty hamburger, or a crispy chicken sandwich. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, and it was like nothing I've ever seen before. I did like the spicy option, and the sauce was very good, but the chicken itself was gyro style. It was chopped up in slivers and served on a bun, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Their chocolate shakes are pretty gross. Very little chocolate, and I'm pretty sure I took a lot of wax from my mouth while drinking the shake. It had an abundance of waxy chunks. I don't know how else to describe it. I love chocolate shakes, and I didn't even finish it. Also, make a sign or something about your drive through and how it doesn't exist anymore. read more

The outside could use a bit of a makeover because it looks rundown and cheap...but don't let that fool you. The inside is clean and friendly-warm. Value and service met the pricing. Greek salad was a good portion with a gre-ood vinaigrette dressing and an above average beef sandwich. I wish the plastic-wear and napkins were a grade or two above the cheapest thing they could find at restaurant depot but the big picture is painted with this being an above average beef stand that is on the front nine of the Dupage county beef stands. read more
