This is the largest, oldest Latin bakery in West Tampa, and a regular stop for many residents, including me. Have loved it for years, before even moving to Tampa. It offers a grand array of mostly-Spanish/Cuban breads/rolls and especially pastries, cakes, sweets. Excellent coffee and Cuban, media noche & other sandwiches made to go. (BTW not all sandwiches are made with Cuban bread; the Media Noche is made with a special softer roll with a touch of sugar & egg). No seating and you have to elbow forward to get served. Parking in their lot can be competitive in peak hours. Using even fractured Spanish helps in ordering.....so does advance tipping......in West Tampa, almost everyone gets tipped.....just do not try it with police. It is a delight to get "dos pasteles, guava o coco, y un cortadito" (sorta cafe con leche with less cream) And this is the safest place in town when they open well before dawn since they are visited by a steady stream of LE getting their caffeine fix. read more

I'm not a big bakery goods eater, but my guest was salivating heavily but managed to control themselves with just the pastele. Tampa arguably has the best Cuban sandwiches in the world, and the Florida Bakery which, according to one of its employees, has been serving Tampa for more than 30 years, has one of the best Cubans around. I'm a Cuban sandwich snob, and many food establishments in the Tampa Bay area claim to have the best Cuban sandwich in town. Many of them are wrong! The Florida Bakery can certainly back up that claim. Their Cuban sandwich is big, fresh, meaty and moderately priced at $3.25. One of my favorite Sunday activities is having a "cubano" at the Florida Bakery, which is made the way a Cuban sandwich should be made. For those unfamiliar with the ingredients, it is made with Cuban bread slathered in butter, pickles, mustard, ham, pork and Swiss cheese. Some establishments will add salami or mayo to it, and while it doesn't ruin the sandwich for me, the Cuban is best served without either. If you add tomatoes and lettuce to your Cuban, you have ruined it! I repeat, DO NOT ADD LETTUCE AND TOMATO TO YOUR CUBAN!!! There are some other great locations in Tampa to get a good Cuban sandwich, such as the Don Pan bakery on Dale Mabry (depending on who makes it), but pound for pound (and yes, you will gain pounds and pounds eating them), Florida Bakery gives you the best Cuban sandwich for your money's worth, in my opinion. The place is not the cleanest establishment in town either, but you're in for a treat if you get their Cuban sandwich. As for the rest of their food, never tried it. Wow. Where should I start. We were completely ignored for close to 10 minutes. When we finally were helped, the woman spoke zero English. Ok, no problem, one in our group speaks fluent Spanish. Wow, so very disappointed. This cake was dry and left a terrible aftertaste. We had around 40 people and no one ate this cake. No one. As for the rest of the food, I will only say that it was adequate. When I called, the woman that answered the phone said they would not do anything about it. I should have saved the uneaten cake for them to taste. I explained that I live an hour away and was in Tampa for one day for a special occasion. She said that was not their problem. She would not take my number for a call back. I've tried several times, first they told me to call before 10 to talk to the owner. I call today, now they say the owner is only there on Mondays. They are very rude, even hanging up on me. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of customer services and knowing if something is wrong with your product. I wish I could give this place ZERO stars! The baked goods were not great. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese with bacon strips. The scrambled eggs were burnt and the forgot the cheese. The bacon was pathetic and thin. We ordered 3 large cafe con leches and asked for 2 of them without sugar and they put sugar in all of them, which is a no go for diabetics. Our order was to go, so we discovered how bad everything was once we we're home. I was disappointed with this "Cuban bakery" - coming from Miami I know good Cuban food and this is not nor close to it. It's pricey for the mediocre cafe con leche, the toast was burnt, and the Cuban bread was hard as a rock by the time I got home. They can't even give you a plastic cup of water - you have to buy a bottle, no napkins or anyone to fill the napkin holders, and the 5 women that were there need to look up the definition of customer service. While I've ordered several cakes and desserts from this bakery in the past, today I finally decided to write a review based on my experience ordering food from the cafe. My tortilla sandwich was alright (nothing amazing, but good); however, my cortadito was perfect. I savored every sip. I also ordered a few bakery items. The quesitos were delicious, but the croquetas were so so. I've had much better elsewhere. In terms of service, it's always good. Sometimes slow (especially on Saturday mornings), but today was prompt. Most employees are only Spanish speaking which isn't a problem for me, but could be for any non Spanish-speaking customers. I'm an Asian immigrant living in Tampa since the 80's. I've frequented Florida Bakery less than 5 times during that period for these reasons. The first & foremost is the service is always rude and obnoxious. If you refuse to speak English in the US, please go back to your own country. The second reason is the quality of the pastries have not improved over the past 20+ years. This is so sad. And finally, they will try to rip you off any chance they get. I asked the price of 1 pastry and they said $.75, but when I bought 4 they charged me $4. I ordered a barbie cake for my daughters birthday party. When it was cake time, I served everyone and when I was done serving I looked around and everyone's plate was left alone. When I said why isn't anyone eating cake? They said the cake taste nasty. I tried the cake myself and the cake was spoiled. I called Sunday and the manager told me to go to the bakery on Monday and that I would be returned my money or another cake. My husband woke up early before work to go take the cake just for the owner to say the cake was good and it was not spoiled. Which is a lie bc since Saturday night I did not put the cake away, it stayed out since then bc I wasn't going to put away an already spoiled cake. I know things happen so I wasn't all that upset about the cake being spoiled but the owner refused to give me credit or money back. She said we can argue all day but your not getting anything back. She was really rude and insisted the cake was good and fresh and even ate a piece . I told her you are lying that cake has been out since Saturday night...how is it going to be fresh still? But just so she wouldn't give us our money back or even Credit. The cake smelled and taste like caca. Nasty! NEVER AGAIN AND WILL LET EVERYONE KNOW THIS!!! I ordered a cake for my son's birthday party and when we went to pick up the cake they instructed the cake was almost ready and we waited. When it came out, the cake was fresh (which is a plus) but for the type of cake it was, a two tiered cake with heavy icing, it needed to be cooled in order for it not to fall apart. The cake never made it to my son's party. it fell apart without having any accidents. It was a disaster to say the least. I had to tell my son that a "monster" walked over the cake and ran off. My son's birthday was a MONSTER UNIVERSITY movie theme. The top tier of the cake came off. the bottom half, Sully's face, melted right off. Yes the cake was fresh, but in order to make it to an outdoors birthday party, it needed to be refrigerated for a bit before releasing it to us. I then proceeded to call and explain the case and they stated they took pictures of it before it left and it was perfect when it left... I am so disappointed they didnt even offer any solutions. To conclude, my son's birthday party we blew a candle on the repaired (by me) top tier which looked horrible. the bottom half wasnt even edible completely crumbled. They are dishonest and unprofessional. I ordered special 50 turnovers on the phone at a different bakery, and by accident I went to this bakery. When they didnt have my order ready I asked if there was a nearby bakery and they said no. Meanwhile there is and they are cheaper and better. I procedded to purchase my order at the Florida Bakery since I was there and they said there was noone else around., I figured they didnt have my order ready, so I waited for them to get it together. Have to let everyone know. I was so disappointed in the cake we order. I ordered a butter team frosting ,/ white cake. I had them put choc frosting in middle. the boys changed there mind like kids often do. I drove to the bakery and talked to mig the decorator she said no problem. I also asked her to add two dog tags. To the cake with. Mo and Jamal. I did not asked her to change the happy birthday. Mohammad and Jamal. To. Just happy birthday. she then put. Mohammad in the dog tags. When I knew that she could not fit Mohammad in a small space. like. Reallly ?????? like why did I say mo instead Mohammad. she does not listen. She speaks clearly English. But that has nothing to do about listening to your customers. then. I asked for a SM 6 inch sample cake to be made so I would know the boys would know of they liked the cake . Ten extra dollars to make sure they would like it . Which to there credit. they did. no problems. I thought. the problem began when I picked up the cake. no happy birthday Jamal and Mohammad choc icing in middle instead of butter team frosting like the sample cake. of the seven pcs cut no one even finished a single piece. no one. these are kids. kids love cake. oh. kids love cake. IF IT IS GOOD which clearly this was not. terrible cake would not feed it to my worst enemy . I brought the cake back the next day neither mig nor her mother where there. when asked them what they were going to do to make this right. nothing. mig 's mother said if we did not eat half the cake she would have. Which is a frigging lay. it was a half of a sheet cake. ( my girl friend always over does it when ordering). That is no the issue. but we did not even touch the frigging ghost op center of the cake. six or seven pc's. even if over large pieces mean 12 to 14 that is out of a cake that suppose to feed fifty so basically. they called me a liar I told them that my issue was the chocolate. Filling why order a cake to see if the boys like it if the second cake is not the same. makes no sense. they don't care about the customers. they are terrible. I even offered to work with them.
