We set out to Florida Cracker... (the original?) and saw the Cook Shack on our way...and ended up there due to crowds at the other place. So glad we did! You order up front... and there are big picnic tables inside, and an area with merchandise. So, they know how to do bbq too. Im from Kansas City and while I'm not an expert I've never had any bbq in Florida I can compare to home or really like. I think I found it here! My boyfriend, his son and myself ordered the Mac and cheese with brisket bowl, enough for me to eat twice. Macaroni was fantastic, how I like it, cheesy with spiral noodles and the brisket was excellent. Hot chicken sandwich was a hit and quite hot from someone who enjoys the heat. We went because this place is raved about, they were out of two or three different things we asked for. Our mac n cheese was supposed to come w/ cornbread and was 10.99. The food was in a paper tray and was just the regular old boxed kind. We totally got scammed. They told us no substitutions so we paid $11 each for no side and a small portion. One of employees stops by and explains a few items and recommends the chicken sandwich. Choice of mild or spicy. Went with mild it was delicious, crispy coated breast meat on a soft sweet roll . Being a sister restaurant of Florida cracker it's no surprise that this place was delicious. I got the hot chicken sandwich and topped it with the Alabama white sauce. This sandwich also comes with coleslaw, but tbh I wasn't the biggest fan last time as it seems it has more of a vinegar base compared to mayo base. The sandwich had a perfect amount of spice, the chicken was so crunchy and juicy and the pickles added a perfect salty/sour flavor kick. My fiancé got the brisket Mac n cheese and I think I have to get that next time I'm there because it was mouthwatering! Fries were perfectly crispy and seasoned with a salt/pepper combo, yum! And the cornbread was TO DIE FOR. I wish I could of brought home a whole pie. read more

I've eaten at this place when it used to be called, Maws vittles. Stopped in for lunch since I was in town at 11 am when it opened. Had to sliced pork sandwich with fries and coleslaw. Also came with some of their corn bread which had spinach in it. The cornbread was quite tasty. The fries were hot, but were very few. The sandwich looked amazing, but was really surprised that it was served cold. Coleslaw was plain a little to be desired, best part was the fact you could try all their barbecue sauces. Tried four different ones. Blair's secret recipe was quite good, and love the Swamp barbecue sauce it's white and peach my interest being white. Mac and Cheese again was great! But something was off with the chicken - it was super greasy, pale colored, and chewy/weird texture, like a woody chicken breast was used or lower quality than I had before. Had I not been with a group, I would have asked for it to be redone. Also bought 2, $5 brownies to go that had to be tossed after one bite, because they were. very, very, dry and stale. Tried this place for the first time after wedding dress shopping. Such a cute place with lots to look at. We went and order drinks first and then found out you can place a to go order from the cook shack and then bring it over to the bar if you'd like. The restaurant part is cash only but they do have a atm. There is also a cute store with lots of stuff to buy with the Florida cracker logo and can't forget the free wine tasting! Okay Folks, this BBQ is beyond amazing. I've eaten here 3 times now ( hour drive ) wish I could say I've been more. Let's talk about the corn bread holy smokes order a extra piece cause your going to want to take it home for later. The manager is super friendly checks on everyone, just a great guy. The restaurant it's self is super cute, picnic style. The out door area for kids to play is so cute, someone put a lot of thought in making it a good time for everyone. Had the chicken sandwich and it was really moist and full of flavor. The dirty beans are also a good choice, black beans and sausage along with baked beans. The wife had gator sausage and it was really good and not over cooked. The smash potato salad was also good and the coleslaw was home made, really great food and the atmosphere was also nice and a country setting. See the salad bowl and that can feed two I think. My husband and I got the Thursday night special: beef tips and rice. In addition, we got the cornbread, baked beans, and collard greens, which were all very good. But, although the rice was plentiful, each of our dinners only had 4 TINY (less than an inch) pieces of beef...not worth the price charged and not enough to be considered a main course. I really wanted to like this place since we don't really have a good restaurants like this in Brooksville. It was average at best. Somehow they made homemade food taste frozen - is the best way I can describe it. If you like sitting inside with the feeling of a half done patio then you'll love it. Only place to sit inside the place are giant picnic tables. There are ok soft drinks so it some sort of flavored tea or alcohol basically. We chose tap water. All four of the people in our party felt the same way. We even went back later because on of our crew that wanted to try it missed out. Sadly the evening food was worse. I guess dickeys in town is still much better and that's not saying an awful lot. At least that corner is not such an eyesore now. The remodel was a great aesthetic improvement. read more

Stopped in today for my first time and ordered take out. They added a fee for it... I've never seen that anywhere. Food was good, mac n cheese tasted processed, didn't bother finishing it. I would have hope for chick fil a style Mac and cheese from here (go try it) with real cheese on top and mixed in. They didn't have any soda at all, no cans, no fountains, I'm driving home and don't drink tea... had to make an extra stop to get something to drink. Overall the food was really good. Where to start... kind of bare with picnic tables scattered around. You place your order at the counter, when rung up it gives you 4 options for the tip. Why give a tip when I don't have a waitress??? They have no straws. The Mac N Cheese tasted like Krafts box deluxe and the "pork chips" were over 50% fat and gristle. The brisket was was pretty good with sauce on it. The collard greens were very bland and not cooked quite right. The dirty beans were good. I think that was the only thing my husband liked. I liked the cornbread. He hasn't tasted the brownie as of yet. Needless to say we spent over $47 (no tip) and threw away 80% of the food. We will never go back. I went there to get a carry-out meal. I ordered the brisket, just meat, and an order of collard greens. I've been there several times with my husband who usually pays with a credit card. So I started paying with my credit card and noticed that my food order was $12.00 and the total cost was $16.49. I asked the girl at the counter what the extra charge was for, and she said that it was an upcharge because I was using a credit card. I said, "What?" Then she said that it was because it was a carry-out order. She obviously wasn't sure, so she got the manager or owner to come over and I asked him why there was a $2.13 "Service Fee" also showing on the payment monitor. He said, "We're trying to get rid of that." Again, "What?" He promptly took $2 out of the tip jar and gave it to me because the charge had already processed. Really? As far as the food is concerned, I love the brisket and collard greens, and the cornbread that comes with it, but their pricing is high, and I don't appreciate additional charges - $4.00 extra is ridiculous.
