I have lived in Azusa my whole life and finally decided to try this place after my daughter's promotion, only thing is we tried twice to go in, but doors were locked so we got sad and were walking away, but someone through the window said we can come eat... so happy they opened the doors for us as the food was delicious! Have a great menu selection as well to choose from. So many yummy options for brunch. Everything was great! Cute place and once we were leaving, started to get packed. We will be back again!

Don't let the outside fool you, this place was so much better than I expected. The parking lot is small and the restaurant wasn't busy. I didn't have high hopes but, I'm glad I was wrong! The menu is quite large but, I decided to order the Chile Verde plate which came with beans, breakfast potatoes, and flour tortillas. The flavor on the Chili was really good and the pork was tender. The beans were refried and fresh, the potatoes were crispy and I believe the flour tortillas were homemade. My dad ordered the Pancakes with eggs and bacon. He enjoyed his meal and he really liked the coffee. The only complaints are when I walked in, there was a potent smell of cleaning solution. It settled once we sat down and were inside a while. And there is 3.5% up charge for using your credit cards. At least we know they're cleaning but, perhaps air it out afterwards.

Will be back FOR SURE! Stopped into Flo's Diner in Azusa and ordered the menudo -- hands down some of the best I've ever had. The broth was rich and deep, like it had been simmering for generations. Not watery, not bland, just packed with flavor. The place was empty except for me, and Monica took care of me like family. Super sweet, super personal service. If you're anywhere near here, do yourself a favor and get your butt down to Flo's. Great food, amazing service, and a small business that deserves support

The "hoagie" cheese steak sandwich with plate piled high with fries.

Flo's introduced us to the astonishingly delicious tradition of weekend menudo. It's soul nourishing on a whole different level. Combined with the opportunity to eat somewhere local and authentic, Flo's is a "can't miss" if you find yourself in the Azusa area, tired of chains and empty branding, and need a home-cooked breakfast. Apparently menudo is divisive. It's strongly flavored and memorable--if not entirely familiar to the broader American palette. But if you've ever had a craving for your grandmothers chicken noodle soup, or the perfect New England clam chowder on a chilly Boston day... add menudo at Flo's to the list of essential comfort experiences. Piping hot tortillas grace the sides of the bowl, accompanied by fixins of verdura (onion and cilantro), oregano, red pepper flakes, and fresh lime wedges to squeeze and sprinkle to your hearts desire. Hearty with hominy, tripe, and a broth so restorative, we find ourselves ordering it to go on sick days, or quietly pulling up a stool at the "menudo counter" before facing the stress of life these days. Flo's is a neighborly escape. As regulars enter, they are chided by the folksy staff about not bringing their spouse for the visit, or they receive a hushed advisement to order their bowl fast if the kitchen looks like they may run out for the day. (It happens. Go early.) And it's not just the menudo that's good here. The chile verde is bold, the eggs always come the way you ordered, and the luncheonette-style sandwich menu doesn't seem to have a weak link. The "hoagie" cheese steak sandwich I had this morning is a testament to their ability to execute every basic of breakfast and lunch splendidly. Now about the "Coffee Shop" part. I wager that the most important person in any place that dares to say they "specialize in breakfast" (as Flo's does) is the kind soul carrying the coffee carafe from table to table. "Mas cafe?" "More coffee?" "I'll be right back for your mug!" "Is he driving, he's had 3 already!" Our mugs are never less than half full unless the place is exceptionally busy. It's uncomplicated, unfussy diner coffee, served fresh, and with a side of something lacking more and more in the rest of the restaurant landscape these days: care. (They have some French vanilla creamers if you want to be fancy.) No, this is not the place to come to if you prize shiny, new, and trendy above all else. Like the best places: there's community here. It's been around a while; so please treat it respectfully, as if your grandmother made the menudo. (Someone's likely did.) The staff here understand the power of their hospitality, and you might too if you chance a visit.

Monica at Flo's is the best hostess in Azusa. The MENUDO IS THE BEST IN TOWN. If your a Menudo Lover, you won't be disappointed. It starts with the juice. One taste & you'll be smiling. Add your own fixings to your personal taste...

We are back again! I had the breakfast burrito. It was so good and piping hot. They are always ready with the decaf for me. My hubby had the huevos en salsa verde. He had beans, o Brian taters and corn tortillas with that. My mother in law had pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. She has dementia. They always speak kindly to her in Spanish and help her decide what to eat. Today she had pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. They come around her and make sure she is well taken care of. It's filling up with some more hungry happy people. We see a lot of the same faces each week.

    Country fried steak breakfast

First time here tried the country fried steak breakfast. Eggs were cooked exactly how I wanted them, country fried steak had good flavor and a nice crunch to it. Waitress recommended the potatoes o Brian which unfortunately even though they looked cooked they weren't fully. Green sauce tasted a little funky too. Service was great they were attentive and friendly. I believe they charged my card an extra dollar to be ran as credit. My initial receipt said $17.28 then when she brought it back with my card it was $18.28. Not a huge deal but I'd like to at least be given notice that there was an extra charge. Restaurant was nice and clean with a good atmosphere. Even though I live locally I don't think I'll be back.

As well as having…read moreincredible coffee, which started me on my coffee journey, the staff are incredible, the managers Adam and David do an amazing job to make the place feel like a warm and caring environment. Employees there are very kind and seem to take an interest in everyone who walks in the door. Recently an incident occurred that I have nothing but respect for how the staff handled. A now former regular, who I will be keeping anonymous for obvious reasons, was banned from the store for openly racist remarks and verbally harassing staff. I was not personally present for it, but that is accurate to my experience with said person. They have repeatedly made racist and classist comments and have pretty heavy handedly push their ideological views to me. After banning said customer, they proceeded to threaten and harass the staff, from what I saw in regards to the banning, the manager Adam handled it with more respect and elegance than I believed necessary. Despite his tact, she took that as an opportunity to go on a tangent of excessive profanity and slurs. I think it's very telling about the type of people who work at Penny that they value maintaining a safe and welcoming environment even in the face of bullying and harassment. I've never felt more inclined to go to penny than I do now. Thank you guys for what you do and keep up the good work. You guys are rock stars fr!!

I've been a loyal customer of Pennys Coffee since they opened in Azusa. Over the years, I've spent…read morethousands of dollars here and have recommended the shop to many friends and others in the coffee community. Unfortunately, my experience with the shop changed because of repeated interactions with the store manager, Adam and the event that had just happened. I want the owners to be aware of concerns I have regarding the atmosphere created by management. On multiple occasions, I have heard Adam speak negatively about the owners and other baristas in front of customers. I have also experienced him bringing personal and political opinions into conversations while working, which I feel creates an uncomfortable/unprofessional environment. He works every Monday so I can't even sit on the only couch and drink my coffee in peace, he's always talking nonsense and forcing his personal opinions down my throat. He never stops talking, and if you try to share your opinion, he talks right over you. He has a veryyy hard time accepting viewpoints that differ from his own. He's honestly on some sort of power trip. The most concerning incident occurred recently when Adam yelled in my face while inside the coffee shop!! Then the other barista, David got involved with his encouragement during this interaction. They surrounded me and were trying to intimidate me together and at that time there were no other customers in the store, and when I tried to speak to them to tell them to stop yelling at me- they went at me harder to the point I had to literally run out of the shop bc I didn't feel safe there. It's the first time I have ever had two men corner me and yell at me- it was honestly traumatizing. After leaving, I informed David that I would never be returning. I believed that would be the end of the situation. However, David provided Adam with my personal phone number without my permission, and Adam contacted me by text after I had already left the store in an effort to intimidate me further. During that exchange, Adam also accused me of being racist. I found it completely inappropriate that my personal information was shared without my consent so that a workplace conflict could continue outside of the store. I also want to address an issue with David. Throughout my visits, you have repeatedly attempted to hug me or touch me when I came into the shop. Regardless of your intentions, this made me uncomfortable. Customers should not be touched without their consent. I also work in the business of customer service, and I understand the importance of professionalism. I would never speak negatively about my employer to customers, push personal or political views on people supporting my business, yell at a customer, or use a customer's personal information to continue a confrontation after they leave. It's disappointing because I did like this coffee shop and wanted to continue supporting it. However, my experiences with Adam and David traumatized me. I hope the owners take these concerns seriously and address them so other customers do not have similar experiences.

This coffee felt like dessert. (Quick Note: If you print a photo on a drink, it's not travel friendly. Staff recommends that printed photo beverages are enjoyed on site.) I arrived at Bake Sale Cafe (Azusa) on a weekday (around 7:12AM). I quickly found parking in the business's customer parking lot. This coffee shop has poor visibility despite being a brisk drive from Azusa Pacific University. Staff (receipt says Stephanie) is professional, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Stephanie easily and respectfully answered all my questions. Stephanie also worked hard. My coffee took about six minutes. As mentioned, I enjoyed the Horchata Latte (Large - 20oz - $7.45 - 3 Shots of Espresso) with Pink Printed Photograph (additional $2) and Vanilla Cold Foam (extra $1.25). The top tasted like melted vanilla ice cream, and the coffee tasted clean & fresh despite the sugary aftertaste. This drink has POWER despite its prim, cutesy appearance. I felt my fingers jitter throughout the day as the sugar and THREE SHOTS of espresso slammed into me. YUM! On ambiance, Bake Sale Cafe (Azusa) is very clean and adorable with its light pastel colors. There's about five tables and two counters. And there's a high chair for kids & a water station. Bake Sale Cafe (Azusa) also has utility. This is a great, hidden spot to study. There's about five electrical outlets with big adapters for extra slots and USB ports. There's customer internet with password; there's also a QR code that customers can scan for internet information. Also, there's a gender neutral customer restroom just outside; customers must ask Staff for the restroom keys. The location is very clean and comfortable. Overall, Bake Sale Cafe (Azusa) is a literal hidden gem. Despite the bad visibility, there's visible passion and effort at this business. If curious, this is a very easy recommendation. 4.8 out of 5

We parked in the structure behind the restaurant. On weekends, parking is free for an indefinite amount of time. When we entered, we were greeted by the friendly staff and got a table by the window. The space is bright and filled with calming green accents and plants. The menu is simple and well curated. I briefly read some of the reviews while at the restaurant and they didn't lie, the crispy pork belly is a must. We ordered the Chili Oil Toast which comes with pork belly and avocado. If you're into numbing spice and a lot of chili oil, this dish is definitely for you. My tolerance is pretty weak, but the flavor is amazing! The house-made bread was extra crispy and delicious, but the pork belly... you'll just need to try it for yourself! My favorite was the Breakfast Burrito. This item was healthy and easy to eat. The egg was fluffy, the avocado was fresh, the turkey bacon added the perfect amount of salt, and the sweet potato balanced the salt. For the drinks, the Spanish Latte (hot) was a clear winner. The Matcha Latte was equally great, but needed a bit more syrup, which they kindly provided on the side. Highly recommend checking this place out when they have live DJs too! We were given only one plate. We were only charged for one, but because I was paying for four people and the total was already high, I didn't catch the mistake at checkout. Rather than make my 89-year-old father wait while everyone else ate, my mother split her plate with him. Then we realized they had prepared the eggs incorrectly. We ordered over-medium eggs specifically because my father loves the runny yolk. They served them over-well. He didn't realize the mistake until he had eaten much of the egg white and cut into the yolk. I told the server, and she initially said they would replace the eggs. Then she returned and told us they needed to TAKE THE HALF-EATEN EGGS BACK FROM HIS PLATE before they would give him the eggs we originally ordered. I was stunned. My father had already eaten much of the egg white. The remaining egg was sitting on top of the chilaquiles and beans he was eating. They wanted my 89-year-old father to remove the half-eaten remnants of their incorrectly prepared egg and hand them back before they would replace it with what we had ordered in the first place. I explained that the error was theirs, that we had not received what we ordered, and that my father had already eaten part of the egg before discovering the yolk was completely cooked through. The server still refused to replace the eggs unless we surrendered the half-eaten ones. What exactly were they planning to do with a partially eaten egg from a customer's plate other than throw it in the trash? That interaction was so petty, unsanitary-feeling, and inhospitable that it overshadowed the entire meal. The coffee didn't help. It was lukewarm and extremely bitter. Then there is the tipping system. You pay and are prompted for a tip before receiving your food or experiencing any service. We carried our own drinks to the table and got our own water. After the missing order, incorrectly prepared food, and argument over surrendering a half-eaten egg, I genuinely wondered what I had tipped for. Ringing up the order? Mistakes happen in restaurants. A missing plate or incorrectly cooked egg would not have prompted me to write this review. It was the way the mistake was handled. When your restaurant makes an error, replace the food. Don't argue with a customer over a half-eaten egg, especially while an 84-year-old woman is sharing her meal with her 89-year-old husband because his order was never placed (though requested). It was one fiasco after another. We will never return.
