Whenever I bring my family to Boston we always have breakfast or lunch at Flour. I've been to more than one location and the food is consistently terrific. On a recent trip the weather was lousy and they delivered to our hotel. Favorites include the breakfast egg sandwich, roast beef with horseradish, Turkey with cranberry/cherry chutney and hummus sandwich. Raspberry seltzer with homemade syrup is a must. Very nice and conveniently located bakery near my hotel. One of the only spots close by that was open very early in the morning (7am). Fully stocked with pastries I was conflicted on what to eat! Places like Flour Bakery + Cafe, replete with pastries of every sort, make me wish I still ate breakfast with the same frequency & vigor as my younger self. I'm sure I missed out on some truly incredible sweets but at 9am, I could only stomach something savory. The poached egg on my Avocado Toast ($10.50) couldn't be modified so I was resigned to a runny egg yolk situation. I eat avocado toast frequently because I'll take the buttery green fruit any way I can get it, but I gotta say, Flour's version isn't the flavor profile I prefer. Theirs is short on avocado, heavy on sour flavors like salsa verde, cotija cheese, & pickles fresno chilis. I tried my breakfast partner's Grilled Cauliflower Melt ($11.50) & it had an excess of stretchy oaxaca cheese & contained an intriguing ingredient -- pumpkin seed butter. Not something I'd ever consider getting but I'm glad I got to try it without the commitment of purchasing an entire sandwich. If you want a delicious latte and a quick bite to eat, flour is definitely the place to go to. This cafe has a great variety of pastries as well as breakfast options such as avocado toast. Everything that I ordered was incredible, especially the crossant with strawberry glaze. I'm glad they did also have the option of oat milk for their lattes. The seating was slightly limited at this location. All of the tables were full so we had to sit and eat elsewhere. read more

Very cute cafe with friendly service and INCREDIBLE sticky buns! Bright interior since there are floor-to-ceiling windows lining the cafe. The indoor seating is a bit limited and the space is kind of cramped, so it's not the most comfortable place to hang out for a while. I tried their Greek salad and it was delicious, but I was blown away by the bread that came with it. The bread was super soft in the middle with a nice and chewy crust. Their menu has salads and other entrees in addition to their bakery items. The prices are similar to those of other bakery cafes. The sticky buns here are probably one of my favorite food items in Boston. They're great even when they're cold, but when they're warmed up it's like your taste buds are transcended into a pastry heaven. read more

I stopped by this flour location during a trip to Boston and was happily surprised by how good their healthy food was (and not at all surprised about the deliciousness of their sweets). I struggled between their renowned sticky bun and their chocolate cream pie, opting for the latter (I previously had had the Boston cream pie). Flour's chocolate cream pie has a rich chocolate bottom layer, another light fluffy cream layer and delicious shaved chocolate topping. I kinda wanted some milk with it. I lived in Boston for a few months a couple years ago and was obsessed with Flour. Now, every time I visit Boston, this is one of my first stops! This time I tried the breakfast sandwich, which was amazing! The Dijonaise sauce had a nice tang, the bacon was thick cut and crispy, but the best part of it was the egg. Instead of the usual rubbery egg patty that gets put on breakfast sandwiches, the egg in this sandwich was so light and fluffy and almost had a creamy texture. I believe they whip in cream or something similar to make more of an egg soufflé rather than just pouring a plain beaten egg into a mold. And the main reason I stop by flour every time is the Parmesan chive scones!!! They are my favorite pastry of all time! The chives and cheese add a great savory flavor and the texture of these scones are unbeatable! The buttery rich texture reminds me more of a biscuit than a scone, and I always have to get extra to take back home with me. (The packaging is also super cute). I stopped by the following day for lunch as well (did I mention I'm obsessed?) and got the heirloom tomato and farro salad and added roasted turkey. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture but this was also a solid choice! The corn and candied nuts added a lot of sweetness and went well with the cheese and the peppery arugula. You could also definitely taste the basil and mint, which were nice additions. All of the veggies were super fresh tasting, and this is a great option if you're looking for something on the healthier side. read more

This place was so mid but unfortunately they committed an atrocious crime forcing me to review. We got the mulled cider and the egg breakfast sandwich. The cider was mid. Opens at 7 am, next to the Hynes convention center and the surrounding hotels, and an excellent place to start the day. Staff was friendly and fairly quick, even in the madhouse that is the morning rush for caffeine. The line could get quite long, especially for espresso drinks, so I would recommend ordering ahead to grab and go - if you're in a rush at 8:30 am, you're not going to have a good time without ordering online. Their sticky buns are excellent, but sell out quickly. The maple pecan cranberry muffin and chocolate brioche were also quite good. read more

Flour is one of my favorite bakeries in Boston hands down. My girlfriend and I discovered it only six months ago and have now made it a staple each time we go up to the city for a weekend. We were in Boston Friday-through Sunday and each morning we would go to Flour and each time the people working were very friendly, very talkative, and very willing to offer what they like and what we should try. The cinnamon buns are a sweet perfection. The lemon meringue pie can brighten anyone's sour day. The mocha latte could valiantly joust against its Turin cousin, bicerin. The avocado toast was by far the best item on the menu, and I dare say no other establishments avocado toat could stand up against the Avocado Toast at Flour... Its simple yet tasty avocado spread that soft boiled egg, pickled fresno chili, cotija and salsa verde. This happened to be right outside our hotel one morning while we were walking to the train. Stopped in for pastry. Husband had the cinnamon roll which was soft and well iced. Yummy. I had the raspberry pop tart, and it was fab. Just enough raspberry filling to be tasty but not messy. Sweet but not sickeningly so. Husband also got a hot chocolate and said it was very rich. I love finding a new bakery when I travel. This one was a good size for a bakery, good amount of seating, although it was not always easy to get a seat there if you go during the peak hour. On this day, I had Doughnut with Cream Filling which was heavenly, Grilled Cauliflower Melt which was amazing, and Baked French Toast which was just a delight. I loved their food so much, I went back a few more time for breakfast. I had a Latte, Sour Cream Coffee Cake, Breakfast Egg Sandwich, and Cinnamon Cream Brioche. And I also had the Grilled Cauliflower Melt again. Everything I tried here was really great, with high quality, fresh and simply delicious items. I enjoyed everything here, and the staffs were always very nice. I felt welcomed and I could see that my business was appreciated. Busy, busy place. You will find yourself standing in line with tourists, convention center patrons, construction workers and locals. You will stand in line but it moves pretty quickly. Tables (inside and out) are a hot commodity. Coffee is good and we tried a breakfast sandwich, a turkey sandwich (for breakfast) and the steel cut oatmeal. The oatmeal (of which I can only speak to) was delicious. So creamy no milk was needed. Definitely get it with the seasonal fruit which in our case was apples and sliced ginger. Nice small cafe in Boston East Bay. I love the location and the fact that that they have great coffee and breakfast options they have. I got an americano which was amazing and I decided to order the French toast with bacon. It was a perfect delicious breakfast to start our day on to the journey of Boston. My girlfriend got the breakfast egg sandwich which was warm and tasteful. The service was quick and the people were very friendly and nice. I also like that they have some wicked cool designs inside and outside. Brings forth a very great welcoming environment for all the guests. The ambiance of the bakery was really cute, I wish that the pastries in the case were all labeled and also on a menu somewhere above that I could read. Went here a few weekends ago while we were in Boston to grab food for an outdoor picnic. We placed the order ahead of time, and were able to just grab it and go. We got 2 sandwiches, a cauliflower melt (for the hubs) and a house made mozzarella, for me. I loved my sandwich but it was a bit soggy by the time we got to eating it because some of the pesto, I believe, had soggied the bread. It made it a bit difficult to eat, but it was still really tasty. My husband also enjoyed his sandwich. We also got some pastries. A sticky bun, a raspberry filled doughnut, a twice baked brioche, and an Oreo cookie. All the pastries were really good. The twice baked brioche is really bostock, but I'm guessing they don't call it that because it's not really a recognizable name unless you know Eastern European pastries or have worked in a bakery yourself. Everything we got was tasty, and we'll definitely stop by here again next time we're in Boston! read more

Food: I ordered the Avocado Toast with an almond milk latte (they ran out of oat milk), my sister ordered the sticky bun, my dad ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, and my mom ordered something else (I can't remember..). Be ready to wait. -Space is a bit small and hard to stay out of the way when waiting. -- Roasted Grilled Chicken Sandwich Creamy and comforting, on focaccia bread that was crispy and fresh. The dominant flavor was the brie cheese and it made the sandwich a little one-note so I'd probably omit next time to taste the seasoned chicken more. I tried the roasted cauliflower and it had more of a kick with pickled shallots--I'd recommend over the roasted grilled chicken, but both were delicious. Brownie/Double Chocolate Cookie/Berry Bread Pudding I don't think the desserts stack up to the stellar sandwiches. The brownie was overly rich, as was the double chocolate cookie. The berry bread pudding was very plain tasting and not worth the heaviness. Highly recommend the sandwiches but taking a pass on the desserts moving forward! UPDATE: I was going to take my own advice until I realized they sold donuts on Sunday and proceeded to throw it out the window. So glad I did! Vanilla Filled Donut ($3-3.25, I think?) Fried dough rolled in sugar and filled with a vanilla cream. It was bigger than I expected (pretty standard donut size) and I loved the filling--light, buttery, and sweet. You can see the flecks of vanilla bean. The dough was fresh and a little crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Somewhat heavy/doughy, but balanced out by the delicate cream. Overall, a very satisfying dessert and easily the best I've tried at Flour. Weren't ready until about 8:30AM on a Sunday-not sure if that's the standard timing. Not sure I'd come back regularly for the donuts (unless they rotate flavors), but I think they should be a must-try at least once! Walking into this spot (one of several Flour locations around the city), you're immediately put at ease by the welcoming, cozy vibe. There are a few tables and a long window counter off to the side for eating in. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the service prompt and personable. I went with the Homemade Hummus sandwich, which the team was more than willing to make on multigrain bread instead of the focaccia listed. Talk about a delicious first bite. Unbelievable fresh and flavorful bread, thickly sliced, that provides the ideal complement to the packed filling. Creamy with the occasional whole chickpea for adding texture, the hummus swirls around tangy, bright pickled veggies and freshly chopped cilantro. The sriracha aioli gives the sandwich just the right spicy kick. Will give this sandwich partial credit for my Boston PR on race day :) Can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in town! read more
