Went in on a Thursday around 7 and it was busy but we were seated immediately by the host. The backlot parking lot was FULL!!! Got the squid ink pasta and grilled octopus dishes. Both were really great, but the squid ink pasta (with crab meat)had some crab shells that hurt my mouth. Our server wasn't attentive at all. Perhaps he was too busy? For these two reasons I'm taking off a star. Overall I would definitely go back the food was solid. read more

We had an amazing experience at Flour Shop..... best meal we've had in Charlotte. The gnocchi, mushroom tartine and the large size tortellini were awesome. The service at the bar was great. The bartender was friendly, so knowledgeable and we loved our experience. I had to deduct a star for the hostess. She is awful and she ruined our experience on the way out as we were trying to make a reservation to come back. She was snobby, snooty and everything that is not welcome in the south. I suggest she take her attitude elsewhere. read more

I follow The Charlotte Agenda pretty closely and was very excited to try this new restaurant because...pasta. I went with two friends and arrived around 7:30pm. We waited about 30 mins or so for a table and ordered drinks and desert (wonderful oatmeal raisin cookies) to get us started. Once seated we ordered 4 appetizers: Coal-Roasted Butternut Squash, Carolina Shrimp Ceviche, Grilled UFG Mushrooms, and A5 Wagyu Beef Carpaccio. The appetizers were WONDERFUL. Next up we ordered the Pappardelle, Lemon Bucatini and the Squid Ink Linguine a la Chitarra. The pastas were great, but the flavor profiles were very intense. The Lemon Bucatini was almost too strong and rich to eat. The Pappardelle and the Squid Ink pastas were definitely better, but also strong. We ate every morsel of our appetizers and lost steam on the pastas, but enjoyed the meal overall. Hands down my favorite item was the Carolina Shrimp Ceviche. I love Ceviche and eat it a lot so it's pretty major when I say that this one may be my all time favorite. I'll definitely be going back to work my way through the rest of the menu. read more

Five Star meal! My husband ordered the pasta with boar sausage and I had the red snapper. Both entrees were fantastic, as was the focaccia bread. My granddaughter had the salad with blue cheese and shared my snapper and she gave them both a big thumbs up! The hostess was so wonderful and sweet and our waitress was great as well. The only item we really didn't enjoy was the bread pudding. It was burnt and dry with no sign of apples. read more

Really positive experience here for my friend's bday. We asked about reservations, which they shared they don't take, but when we arrived a table was set up for us anyway! The waiter could've been more knowledgeable about the wine selection, but the Malbec I drank was good. Everyone raved about the focaccia bread served before dinner. The lamb bolognese fettuccine was delicious! Definitely can tell how fresh the pasta is. While some may say the portions are small, I actually had plenty for leftovers the following day. Did take note that not a single employee looked happy to be there or serve anyone. Ordered some cocktails and the burrata. The burrata did not come with bread or crackers, so it was a bit awkward to eat. For 3 cocktails and 1 cold, stiff, mound of mozerrella, the tab was $60. Flourshop has been at the top of my lists of exciting restaurants to experience in Charlotte. I will start by saying that the food and atmosphere lived up to the expectations! Unfortunately, despite our enthusiasm and easygoing nature we were served by a inattentive, lethargic server Ashleigh. This particular night had a modest amount of guests with no wait time and several open tables. Regardless of the slow traffic and relatively unoccupied serving staff, Ashleigh visited our table infrequently and left us waiting 30 minutes for our check. We stopped in for a quick appetizer and ended up having dinner at the bar. It is always a great combination when people are inspired and at a point in their career to expand into different concepts. We were very impressed from top to bottom. Cocktails with attention to detail: improper and thyme. Concise and quality vino list: Howell Mtn. Solid flavors with a high level of richness: root vegetable, squid ink, and duck breast. During a prime Friday evening we were well taken care of and completely entertained with Argentinian grilling, extruding fresh pasta and intoxicated with the smell of fresh bread. Went with my wife last Saturday. Immediately hooked. We enjoy watching the work going on in the kitchen. We sat at the bar so we had a front row seat. The food was fantastic. Disappointing...I will start with the food...overpriced for the quantity received. For instance, the House-Made Burrata was served with one small meager piece of bread although the server mentioned it was enough for four. For our table of nine, I would say five would not have ordered their's again and at $25+ per plate, we expected more. The atmosphere is average and certainly does not present the open kitchen concept we were anticipating. Additionally, the restaurant was extremely warm. Finally, the service was below average. Let me 1st start off saying when this place opened and I saw the prices for homemade pasta dishes I was like nooooo way is this place going to make it. I waited a entire year before I said ok it must be legit because it's still open. So last night my wife and I went to give it a try. What I'm so mad about is thatninwaited a year to give it a try. Dam me. Make sure you sit at the bar so you can see everything that is going on in the kitchen. We started off with beef carpaccio and not your normal carpaccio and it was outstanding. We moved to the penne pasta with the pork ragu and the noodles were perfectly aldente and the ragu was delicious. We then had the goat cheese stuffed kielbasa which was amazing. The wine was great the service was quite good. I asked about how the chef stuffs the sausage and he came over and spent a good 5 minutes with us explaining the different ways etc. He even gave us 2 chorizo sausages to take home and cook for ourselves. Overall really liked this place. Cute inside and open kitchen. Why 3 stars? Our server I felt never paid attention to what we were saying. And wait times to get drinks were long. I think we waited over 15mins to order a drink. When we sat we had champagne and was odd we told her several times let's chill and we'll have after dinner. She proceeded to open and try to pour. We stopped her being the bottle was warm. Then she tried again? It was awkward. Super nice but when we asked for anything it took forever to make it happen. As for the food, we got the bread to start of course. It was bomb! The apple butter was out of this world. My complaint is they gave us very little for 4 ppl. So within like 5 mins we had to ask for more and she said she would see what she could do? Umm for $12 for bread that most places serve for free, you can give us more bread. We ordered our food and it was good but two of the four meals were board like cold. We just ate them because the service was taking so long. I got the gnocchi which was ok, the meatballs weren't my favorite though others loved them. Too much sausage for me personally. Husband got the bolognese and they was great, the noodles were a slight top al dente but still good (and hot). Other couple got the lemon ravioli and they said was really good as well other than not being super hot. The waitress was kind enough to do a dessert for the engagement celebration, got the apple pudding which was good. During that time we had to ask for the champagne glasses several times so we could finally drink. It was busy and I get it but the service was just so on and off. I'm giving an extra star for ambiance and service. This is a good date night place. Lots of drink options, and apps/small plates. I really enjoyed the croquettes. Entrees were mediocre... I actually returned mine (pork chop was chewy and I couldn't tell if it was the quality or cooking method but think it was a combination). I almost never return food (a handful of times in my life and I'm 45). They they took it off the bill and were VERY polite and friendly. I will be back and will try something else for the entree. We were there for my husbands birthday and were so excited to be there but the moment we walked in the door we were treated so rudely by the manager Kyle that we should have just left at that moment but decided to stay regardless. What a disappointment. Sat at the bar and enjoyed watching the kitchen work, but the service was TERRIBLE! Probably should have sat at a table. Only found out about the day's specials after we already ordered when the waitress was telling another customer. Ordered a bottle of wine she kept behind the bar and it was almost impossible to get her attention to refill our empty glasses. The bread they bring out is fabulous! The burrata was very good. The Pasta was disappointing. It was heavy, overcooked, and tasteless. Even the shrimp was tough. The prices are too high for the quality of food or service. Interesting layout provides a unique break from the standard restaurant situation. Service was quick and attentive at all times. Food was honestly probably the biggest disappointment of the evening. The hype of this place coupled with the prices set some seriously high expectations that the food just did not live up to. I wish I could review the food, but I never got a chance to try it. Last night I walked in and couldn't find a hostess. The awkward entrance was not planned out well and there isn't any standing room, especially waiting for the hostess. I figured he or she would be back shortly so I waited. I watched what was going on and saw a large group that had been sitting and drinking at the bar get up when their table was ready. I saw a couple walk up to the bar and sit down and the bartender said "yeah these seats are for reservations only" but the previous group was just sitting at the bar drinking which made no sense. The couple said oh I'm sorry I just saw the group before me drinking here so I thought it was ok? She just shrugged and said "these are for reservations only" the couple got up and walked out and so did we. When we left they said "we tried coming here when it first opened and the hostess was super rude to us and we thought it was just a fluke--now we wanted to try it again and clearly nothing has changed." Never saw a hostess the entire 10 minutes I stood there, no one greeted us. The restaurant was crowded and loud and extremely dark. Food better be good with service like that. read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday because he wanted to try something new. We both love CustomShop, so I figured this would be a great choice and boy was I right! The dining room is very open with lots of big windows, and having the kitchen right in the center makes you feel like you're eating in someone's kitchen. We tried a few things on the menu: the cheese board, mushrooms, and spinach capriccio (their menu seems to change a lot so not sure how long these will be available). I was not 100% thrilled with the size of the cheese board for the price you pay (3 1-2oz chunks of cheese and 3 spreads for $18), but the spreads were all homemade and the cheeses were great! As someone who does not love mushrooms, I enjoyed this plate. Very unique take on mushrooms as they almost taste like a full, tangy salad with all the seasonings and sauce. The pasta was absolutely to die for! Obviously hand crafted with a delicious red sauce on top. The portions are small, but the cost is well worth it for the deliciousness of the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant! read more

Underwhelming. Waitress recommended the mushroom appetizer, and it was a solid meh. That app and our salad came out in about two minutes. Things were moving a little fast, so when we ordered our pasta we asked for the pace to slow down a bit while we enjoyed our wine. Literally, 1 minute 30 seconds later our pastas showed up. Short version - way under-seasoned, sauces were unimpressive. Actually had to ask for salt and even then it wasn't good. Then, at a pasta joint, we figured a cappuccino and a nice dessert might resurrect the meal. But alas... they don't do dessert yet. And cappuccino was not available either. Whole event took us 25 minutes on a Friday night at 7:15 pm. So we walked to Amelie's. Wish we had just gone to Midwood then Amelie's. Chip - the wine guy - was the one bright spot. Fantastic, start to finish. Stopped into Flourshop last night, and we couldn't have enjoyed our meal more. Started with the Coal Roasted Squash, which was great. The creaminess of the ricotta and the brightness of the pesto were both a very nice complement to the squash...Only complaint was the toast could've been a bit softer. Shrimp ceviche was an atypical version, but still very good nonetheless. Cool dish on a very hot night. We then moved into pasta, with the gnocchi/pork sugo. Light, yet somehow hearty and substantial, the size almost reminiscent of gnudi. Gnocchi can be a gummy mess if not done well...not the case here, very nicely constructed. This feels like a dish for those that truly appreciate how temperamental this pasta can be...very nice. We closed out the meal with the Halibut special...tomato brodo, chorizo, sweet corn with perfectly al dente orecchiette. Tremendous. Also a nice touch, we ordered a couple of glasses of an off-the-run white wine, and our server tried a smidge to make sure that it was still just-right (it was...very delicious). Very happy that we went, Flourshop is a perfect addition to the Back Lot, and we can't wait to go back. If you appreciate well-executed technique (it's not 'just pasta' as others have noted...smh), balanced/inventive flavors, in a laid back atmosphere, this is for you. read more
