Food here is plant-focused, but not completely vegetarian or vegan. Generally, you pick a salad or bowl or mix and match veggie plate and you can add tofu or meat/fish. Clean and minimalist decor suits the cuisine perfectly. I got a simple chopped salad. Portion was just right and veggies were very fresh. I also got the veggie soup of the day- a curry potato soup. It was AMAZING! Wish they had it everyday- it tasted like a samosa filling. You order from a cashier counter, get a number and your food is brought to you (not completely full service). My cashier seemed a little inexperienced/ new and did not know much about dietary restrictions. Every time I asked to confirm if something was vegan she was not sure. The veggie options, while flavorful, are at the end of the day very simple, cheap, and easy to find. You can choose from starters which are basic items like avocado toast with an egg - $7.50. You can also choose to create your own plate which goes up in price as you add a veggie. For example, one veggie -$4, two - $7, and three veggies -$9 . If you want to add a protein, be prepared to pay an additional $5-$7. Also, if you'd like a tea with your meal, which did sound delicious with flavors like cucumber mint, that's an extra $3.50. Factor in your tax and tip and your looking at a hefty price tag for a simple lunch. My 2 items were roasted cauliflower and mashed potatoes. I love my cauliflower, now the seasoning on this one wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't order it again. Two thumbs up on their mash though, it was so creamy and perfectly seasoned. I would get this again and again. The steak was good. Be aware portions are small in my opinion (for my tummy), just enough to get me to feel full, but not satisfied. For Austin- especially for the Domain area, there are so many cool restaurants to try! So it is competitive, and this one was just average. The casual, quirky atmosphere and the seating choices are great. The menu is what drew me to the place- it is like a personal list of healthy meals I like to make at home. However, the servings were very small and not well put together. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and the meal tasted okay but the tortillas were burned on the ends - so the dish was extra crunchy. Before the food came out we were planning on the other dishes we would like to try (there are several on the menu) but after leaving still a bit hungry and out about $50 for lunch between the two of us, we will probably try another restaurant. read more

I went here for the first time today, but I've been eyeing this place for a WHILE. I was in a millennial mood and wanting some delish avacado toast so I searched it up on Google, and flower child came up as one of the places that had some pretty legit avo toast (plus it cheaper than the other ones in the area) so I decided to go there. My husband accompanied me, and between the two of us - i got avo toast and he got tomato and goat cheese toast, plus 2 teas, it was $23. A bit pricey for just toast and tea, buuut I knew what I was getting myself into. We got there a little earlier, about 15 min before they opened, but their doors were wide open so I just walked right in. I didn't even know they hadn't opened yet (like I said, it was my first time). But they weren't rude or anything, or kick us out. The girl who helped us was very friendly. She took our order before they opened, which was nice of her (totally didn't expect her to do that), but she told us since the kitchen was still opening up and getting ready for opening and such, it might take a little bit. Which was totally fine and understandable. They have a small section of wall dedicated to their iced teas and lemonades. My husband got "rose pedal lemoade" which taste very fresh tart. I got one of their hot teas, some kind of dragon jasmine white/green tea blend, and can I just say, I'm obsessed. Yes, after having it once I literally looked it up bc I want to buy it. I did ask for honey with my tea. When I got it, I thought they would give me a little thing of honey on the side so I could put in the amount I wanted, but no, apparently they put the honey in your tea before they serve it to you. That was the only thing I wasn't thrilled about because the servers don't know how much honey you want or is to your liking. So when I got my tea, it tasted bitter to me even though they had already added honey. So I went and got some turbinado sugar and added 2 packets to my tea to sweeten it up, and after that it was perfect. I think they should let you put in the honey yourself (like how the steeping room does it). The food did not take that long to get out to us. It was presented very nicely and pretty. Very insta-worthy. The tomato toast is a lot more savory and sweet than the toast. It is slathered in a thick layer of goat cheese, tomato, and balsamic. SO good. Highly recommend. My avo toast was great as well, if you're looking for something with a little less kick. Thick layer of avocado, an egg, and topped with black sesame seeds. You can add hot sauce if you'd like and honestly I think it gives it a little more of a kick that makes it perfect. They cut each piece of bread into thirds, so its perfect for sharing! Ambiance inside and out is really pretty, but also laid back. Gives me a sense of being a hippy, but with money. Know what I mean? I don't normally go to super healthy, vegan/vegetarian-friendly places like this just because I feel like I can make that type of food at home, but I decided to try out Flower Child because the prices looked reasonable and the interior catches your attention. I ordered the Vegan Poke bowl and it came with brown rice, marinated beets, pickled ginger, portobello, cucumbers, radishes and a generous avocado portion. But, before my food came, one of the waiters came up to me and gave me a free appetizer of avocado hummus served with flatbread. He said he "thought I'd enjoy it" so I know this will most likely never happen to me again but, WOW that was very kind of him and I still have my strange theories as to why I got a free appetizer. But back to the vegan poke bowl, it was absolutely flavorful and delicious. I am not a big fan of beets but the Asian marinades on the beets and cucumbers were refreshing. The portion didn't look very big but all the foods were packed with protein, vitamins, and nutrients that I almost couldn't finished my food. Additionally for dessert, I got a gluten-free cookie which was very delicious! I'm not gluten-free but I'd eat that cookie any day. The interior design is very casual European so you just get good vibes when you dine in. A place that's vegan, vegetarian, and/or gluten free and called Flower Child may have the first impression of a restaurant with simple and bare ingredients, but once you see the menu, you'll notice that there's a ton of culinary skill going on in that kitchen. Honestly, I didn't come here because I had the craving for veggies, I came here looking for something new and slightly out of my comfort zone. The decor is very nice: the kitchen is open, the lights illuminating each tabletop, and the ambience is lively. The table design and flowers on the tables are nice to the eyes, and you really feel like you're sitting at your dream home. I got the Thai Cashew Quinoa with Steak while she got the Late Riser with Salmon. The vegetables are stir-fried, so even though I'm not a fan of zucchini, I totally dig the tenderness it had from the high heat. Everything tasted good and the bowl was licked clean. The steak is cooked medium, but the color and tenderness satisfied my preference for medium-rare. My one complaint is that once I got through half the bowl, the sauce will get a tad heavy, and the quinoa does little to absorb the saltiness. I also had a bite of the Late Riser. It was also pretty good, but the salmon could've been a bit more tender. Sadly, you do have a spend a bit extra for healthier food, but when you're in the Domain, Flower Child is hard to pass up, especially with the quality of their ingredients. I've tricked myself into trying this place too many times at the praise of my coworkers and other locals. I work near here and have tried it when looking for a quick lunch option. Healthy food doesn't mean no-flavor but the food I've eaten here is usually under-seasoned and in my recent experience not fresh. The Flying Avocado wrap is perhaps the worst thing I've ever eaten at the Domain. I don't understand the appeal behind paying $13 for a turkey wrap made with a very small amount of deli meat, sad lettuce, out of season tomato, and an avocado smear that had already turned dark. The greens in the side salad it came with were rotting. Perhaps dining in is a better experience. Another reviewer said dining-in portions were different and it must be true as my portion was ridiculously small (or the wrap was just severely under-filled) for this to-go order. It is located in the new Domain Northside section and has indoor and patio seating. It's a walk up and order and the food will be delivered to your table. There are healthy options for all including kids, there are salads, wraps, and plates. I got a dish of sides and then I've gotten a chicken plate and found my favorite items. I really love the sweet corn quinoa, it's different but light and very flavorful. However things can get really pricey with all the options, so it's definitely not the cheapest lunch/meal option but I guess it's the price you have to pay for healthy food now a days. The price is more than other lunch options, but as compared to healthy food options it's about on par. The employees are super nice and friendly and the atmosphere is great. You have to walk up to the counter to order, but then are served at the table. The workers were super friendly and were very helpful. I've purused their menu so many times and upon arriving to Domain Northside still was overwhelmed with their variety of healthy and delicious noms! Especially not at the price point it's sold at and the amount given. I was still hungry even after I ate half of a salad. Tastes pretty good, but it's not a super complex flavor profile (not necessarily a bad thing) so you wouldn't want to make a meal out of it. I've had the Glow Bowl with tofu, the gluten free mac and cheese, and the hummus and each one was absolutely incredible. I usually ordered the gluten free Flying Avocado wrap. I don't like it anymore for the following reasons: 1) There are no longer chunks of avocado in the wrap. It's now just an avocado schmear. 2) They no longer carry Manchego or offer it as a substitute for Gouda. 3) After I had been seated and a long wait, the waiter asked if I had a dairy allergy. I said, "Yes, I have a cow dairy allergy but can do sheep or goat cheese. Can you substitute Goat Cheese for Gouda?" When I received my entree, there was no goat cheese in my wrap and I didn't want to walk up and wait again after I had already clarified twice with the cashier and waiter. The menu is also very creative and friendly with different takes on cultural food such as the sichuan green beans or teriyaki shrimp bowl. I got the deal where you buy the teriyaki bowl and get a $14 free meal, so it was super worth! My favorite from the dishes was the sweet corn and quinoa that reminded me faintly of an elote since it's creamy (they use greek yogurt). Kara and I split the food! So we got to try different dishes. However, I wasn't quite full afterwards and the charge for protein inside bowls are very expensive from $5-8 for just the meat. I think the base prices for the menu items are pretty solid for the type of organic and fresh food they offer. When I saw this place had 4.5 stars on yelp I was very excited to try it out. I got the Madras curry and I was warned by the cashier that it wasn't very spicy, but I am totally fine with that since I didn't want anything super spicy anyways. This dish was not spicy at all and I would say it was somewhat lacking in flavor. There was zero kick and everything was pretty one note. The biggest problem I had with this dish, however, was with the undercooked vegetables. I definitely don't want my veggies overcooked but my green beans and potatoes were still crunchy. As far as the kids go, my daughter had the kids meal with grilled chicken, Mac & cheese and fruit. The grilled chicken and Mac & cheese were super small portions. The fruit was a reasonable side; however, even my 7 year old daughter was not full from eating this. We also ordered a lemon muffin which was mediocre at best. My husband got the steak wrap with a side salad and he would give it a 2. The drinks were just ok. I tried the rose petal lemonade and the pomegranate ginger lemonade and thought both were fine but not great. My husband originally had the watermelon Agua Fresca but didn't really like it so he switched to the lemonade. The service was very good. The cashier who took our order was very nice and very knowledgeable. While we were there we had to leave unexpectedly so we switched our order from eating there to takeout. The person who was expediting was very pleasant and made that change for us. Overall: I love healthy eating and I think I've definitely had healthy eating done right. This, my friends, was not it! Peeled carrots IS not peeled sweet potatoes noodle/pasta, it was obvious. Yes they are both orange color but the texture and taste is very different. Food tasted really good. It was light meal but enough to keep you full and energized through the day. Everything was made from scratch in clueing they bread the used for my wrap. They are taking precautions during COVID. Food is brought out to you. Great place to go if you're trying to be healthy! read more
