I came back from a long day's hike at Lost Maples and was starving for some veggie-forward food. Flower Child totally hit the spot (and there are options for everyone: vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, fish, meat, etc.) I was torn between the "Forbidden" Rice and the vegan massaman curry, so... I got greedy and ordered both. I combined the two and it was absolutely phenomenal. Plus, I had enough leftover for the next day's lunch. The rice included delicious snap peas, bok choy, broccoli, carrots, and a delicious red chili hoisin sauce. I put some of the rice in the sweet and spicy curry. I loved that the curry had toasted cashew in it. It definitely lended a nice texture to the meal. The restaurant itself was practicing safe social distancing. Everyone was wearing a mask, and I enjoyed being able to sit on the outdoor patio. I saw that the menu offers "family pack" options, so this would be a great place to order a bunch of things and skip meal prepping for the week. So glad I found Flower Child! It comes with grilled steak, charred onion, port salut cheese, arugula, and horseradish yogurt. There is so much flavor packed into this wrap. The pumpkin muffin was really moist and tasty too. One of the drawbacks of shopping at the Domain for me has always been the lack of affordable, healthy restaurant choices. So I was super happy to find Flower Child. Their extensive menu leans toward Mediterranean and includes a variety of bowls and wraps and plates, heavy on the veggies and including choices of vegetarian, turkey, and shrimp. It's posted outside and over the counter where you order, but I'm also including a photo here to make decisions easier. Portions are decent but not huge, so it's about right for lunch. They have a large, pleasant indoor dining area and a covered patio, so it's usually easy to find a table. You order and pay at the counter, get a number, pick up your utensils etc at the counter at the back, and choose a table. They'll bring you your order. The restrooms are clean, but the tables have not always been. Most people bus their own tables, so they may be behind on wiping them down. Parking is available free in the nearby garages, and since most people are here to shop, that's likely where you'll want to park anyway. read more

Spent 2 hours having lunch on the patio. The bird situation is annoying... Patrons leave their table and immediately the birds are enjoying their leftovers! I noticed that the staff took almost 10 minutes to clear the food/plates from each table, but NEVER once wiped them down. So ultimately the next person would sit at a table that was only cleaned by the birds! When I spoke with the manager she said it was a staff turn over time, and when I told her I was sitting outside for 2 hours she lied, stating the tables had been wiped down. I actually took a photo of a table with bird sh*t on it! Finally, someone comes with a cloth and starts cleaning the tables. When he gets to the one with the bird sh*t, he wipes it and then proceeds to use the same cloth for the other tables!... SO you decide it you want to eat here, I will not. read more

THE BLACK AND WHITE: When I'm in a pinch for lunch when I head to work, I usually come to Flower Child since it's only a 3 minute walk from my office. Tons of healthy options. I generally go for the Mother Earth bowl and tack on either chicken or tofu as a protein. Had the Teriyaki Shrimp and Avocado bowl once and it was good, just not a big fan of gulf shrimp. Not as tasty as pacific or atlantic shrimp. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall I typically spend $17 for an entree meal including protein. You know I'm usually a big sucker for places like this. Healthy delicious food with a cute atmosphere that's pretty hip is something I really enjoy. I just found myself underwhelmed unfortunately. The atmosphere I must say was amazing. So cute, great lighting. Made me feel fresh, clean, and calm. My service was just ok. My friend got her meal about 10 minutes before me even though we ordered right after each other. She's too polite to start eating and I felt really bad for her. It was just awkward. My meal honestly was just not good. The chicken I got tasted like cheap lunch meat. I know it's supposed to be healthy but healthy does not mean flavorless. I was just pretty sad because the meal was almost $20 and it tasted like I could have made it myself. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing? I ordered the Mother Earth bowl and added tofu (tofu was a little rubbery but had a good flavor). My husband got the forbidden rice bowl with salmon- I wish I would have gotten that too! The Mother Earth was tasty but the salmon was DELICIOUS. I also got an iced green tea which was very refreshing and not too strong. I left feeling full but energized! It's counter service but they bring your food to you so there's no waiting around awkwardly for your name to be called. We sat outside, they have a very cute patio area in a busy part of the domain so it's great for people watching. Even though their menu is a little pricey, all of the food I have ordered here, has been really good. I like that they have a lot of whole and fresh foods, as nothing seems processed or low quality. Going to start with the disappointment first. First timer, I ordered a kids meal with steak, Parmesan broccoli and gluten free Mac. The steak is supposed to be cooked to order and I forgot to say when I ordered so it came out well done, which was unfortunate. The broccoli was way undercooked and hard and had no flavor or spices. Loved the gluten free Mac it was cheesy and yummy. I couldn't decide if I liked the Yuzu Brussels sprouts on their own because even though I love onion, it was a bit overwhelming in this dish.
