The spartan ambience is cute, but a few softer surfaces would make for better acoustics - it can be rather noisy inside, even when not that crowded. I am so disappointed. I have been here three times before and have been very happy with my meals. I have heartily recommended it to people. Today I had the most disappointing lunch I can remember, more disappointing in that I ordered what I usually order, which is the salmon, asparagus and the watermelon tomato salad. The salmon was very dry which they tried to cover up by putting a layer of greasy oil on it. The watermelon and tomato were mushy and sitting in a puddle of liquid that had leaked from the mushy and over ripe fruit. You could barely taste the basil or mint. The asparagus was fine. What happened there?! They say they use fresh ingredients, but that melon should never have made it to the plate. They promise "to take you to a happy place", well I am very unhappy. There are no waffles or pancakes on the breakfast menu, they don't put out half and half with the coffee (I had to ask for it and wait), the avocado toast was ice cold meaning the eggs aren't cooked to order and the coffee was overly strong a la Starbucks. read more

This is a great addition to the DelMar/ Carmel Valley area and to the vegan restaurant scene in San Diego. I really had nice hopes for this place ! The ambience is welcoming with beautiful flowers on the patio, marble tables, wide open space inside and open kitchen. They even have a yoga mat parking corner (nice touch!) Good selection of different food and drinks. We tried the hummus, avocado, cauliflower and the madras curry bowl. The portions were ok, typical for a place like this but I was surprised that we had to ask for bread with the hummus. Additionally it was not the greatest of hummus; I have had better. The cauliflower was good and the avocado as well - both seemed quite fresh. The madras curry bowl had no inclusion of rice or bread which I found odd. The flavors were decent and the veggies were cooked ok. In general I felt the flavors and spices needed to be dialed up in all dishes. Will I am be back ? May be if I am in the area, but there are better vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurants in SD to make a special trip to this one. read more

Top notch quality and food came out super fast. We are vegan and ordered the Mother Earth bowl which we both liked, the avocado toast minus the egg and cheese was to die for and the brussel sprouts were amazing as well. I didn't care too much for the Thai Dye wrap because it was too spicy but my boyfriend loved it. We tried the chocolate pudding due to the reviews on yelp and it lived up to the comments. I love this place! The food is a little expensive but that's to be expected in over-priced Del Mar. But I had the best most healthy tasting lunch ever and i love the agua frescas. If you have a food allergy, avoid this place like the plague! I asked two of the people who worked there if their was shellfish in my soup and both said no. I started having an anaphylactic reaction so I called and spoke to someone else who I asked to find out from the cooks if there is shellfish in their soup. Yep, there was and I got sick as a result. 3.5 -we need that! This is the 3rd restaurant at this location in the past 10 years. And we liked all the other restaurants that were here too. This is like a high-end Urban Plates if you ask me, but I think it's priced wrong- too high. I don't think you can get cafeteria service for a kale salad (~$10) plus salmon ($7) costing you nearly $20 without table service. The salad was delicious (perfect light dressing to wilt the kale a bit so it's not so crunchy) and a small filet of salmon. I had the Thai cashew bowl with red quinoa, which had a lot of flavor (a bit too much salt) but small- I mean there's no way that anyone other than a small person (me) would find that a filling meal. And why skimp when the ingredients consist of mostly red quinoa and a few mushrooms. One other person had the same bowl but with chicken (plus $5). I'm just not sold on paying a higher premium for what this is. There's plenty of seating in the back lower room and patio. And they allowed a dog inside? What? It doesn't matter the size of the dog- it's still a dog and should not be in an area where food is served (patio exemption)- at least not to my knowledge. I've eaten at this Fox concept spot a half dozen or so times. My favorite are the pick 3. The cauliflower w dates is delicious. I also enjoy the sweet potatoes. I felt the Asian bowl was way too oniony. The salmon is disappointing. I've ordered 4xs and it's often fishy or low quality farm raised. The way Fox cooks and the quality of salmon I find much better for True food. The tofu is good.. bland but good if has siracha on it. I love eating here on a week day lunch. First timer at Flower Child. Lunch with girlfriends. Sat out on the back patio, and the place was alive with activity. Lots of room to sit, and relax which is great. When I ordered I mentioned it was my first time and I would love some help with picking some popular items so I could try a few things. Person taking my order said, "well, it's really up to you. i don't know what you like.".... So perhaps not the most helpful of help. I chose the 3 item plate and selected the spicy eggplant, brown rice and grilled tofu. The spicy eggplant was very, very good. Good enough to perhaps create cravings... All 3 items were great, and properly portioned. Not too much & not too little. My girlfriends got the cobb salad and really like them. Today we celebrated a birthday at our medical practice. I offered to bring lunch from Flower Child for the staff having experienced several meals in Scottsdale and now at their new location in Del Mar. I was excited to share the menu so that each person could order. After several failed attempts to call it in I decided that I would place the "to go" order in person. I spoke with the manager, Mark. He offered to meet me as I parked in front to give me my order. To my surprise the entire order was ready in 10 mins. I also wanted a brownie to put a candle in (had a candle at the office) so we could all sing to Dr. Taylor. When I arrived there was no brownie! I called to speak with Mark just to let him know. He offered to deliver it to our office personally and we were all so impressed! He also included their yummy lemon/olive oil cupcakes and more brownies! Took two visits to start likening this places. The first time I came in was shortly after a car crashed into the window and ordered a salad that I did not like. However on my second visit I discovered bowls and they are very amazing. They are very delicious, healthy and take very short to prepare as well. Great source of protein when you get it which chicken or beef. This place is similar to Urban Plates and True Food kitchen and they even share some common dishes, although there were no other fast and healthy places on that plaza so I'm really glad this restaurant opened here. I've had numerous dishes at Flower Child, including the kale salad, curry bowl, mother earth bowl, and sides of eggplant and sweet potato. Each plate is delicious, fresh, light, and filling. Highly recommend for breakfast, lunch or dinner whether dining in or taking out. I had a wonderful experience at this location. I have been to a few different flowerchild locations in the past and this is definitely my favorite. There was a very wonderful presence in all the workers and I was served the best steak plate I had ever had. I had broccoli and Brussel sprouts served perfectly and my pudding was amazing as well. Other locations have been awesome as well but for some reason this one was my favorite. The woman with short brown hair who took my order was very sweet and was super helpful by helping me out with the menu quite a bit. The man with curly hair helped me with my drink choices and was very cute. The blonde man who served me was very adorable and friendly and I was flattered by his kindness. I was looking for the bathroom and the woman with long black hair was so kind to direct me and refill the napkins for me.
