These were almost fish bites. The shrimp were portioned alright however for $40, I felt quite short sheeted. I have gone there since they opened and watched it go downhill, smaller and smaller portions, same price. I don't know where or when they decided to go cheap. I will take my same $40 and go to Krispy Catch on Arkansas and 360. Same money twice the food better quality. read more

I am a regular at Flying Fish. This place has some of the best catfish around. Sure, there are better places, but this place is right in the middle of the downtown Arlington charm. My order is always right 100% of the time. If one of my catfish strips is too small, they throw in another small one to make up for it. The squash and zucchini is to DIE for, but you also can't go wrong with the fries. The key lime pie is great, too. The atmosphere is wonderful inside and would be outside, but there's construction going on. read more

First, let me say that the "fish-faces" on the wall were a bit overzealous and completely lacked diversity. In fact, the only diverse group there were the cookers and servers, which I found to be an insult. What We DIDN'T Like: MAC Salad - Overall, it was OKAY. The shrimp were deficient in the same appeal they had in the refrigerator display (much bigger compared to that was served to me). Additionally, I had some dried looking capers in my salad which did not pair well. Note...dried capers are NOT appealing (scary). Oysters on Half Shell - ABSOLUTE WORST!!!!!! You couldn't pay me to eat this here again. They had a foul odor and tasted horrible...GROSS!!!!! I eat oysters all the time at Pappadeaux's, Hook Line & Sinker, Water Grill, Ocean Air and tons of other places...this was BAD! Fried Catfish - Simply lacked flavor! What We DID Like: Red Beans & Rice - Now, my date didn't like this because he was expecting real New Orleans style red beans and rice...that, they were not! However, I thought they tasted very good, but more resembled Jamaican "pigeon peas & rice". It's been a while since we've been here. Ate there Saturday night and was disappointed. Not a large crowd. Ordered two combination shrimp and oyster baskets, 2 iced teas and one cole slaw. The 6 shrimp were fine, the 6 oysters were very small, about the size of a medium Brussels sprouts, and the French fries were really under cooked and almost mushy. Good food; but its just that, good, nothing more, nothing less. I like the oysters, but (and this is me getting REALLY nit picky) I couldn't get any damn salt or pepper onto my oyster because they have those little Corona shakers that don't work at all. The fish is good, but I wouldn't say its especially fresh. It isn't rotten or bad! It just docent taste all that fresh either. The vegetables that are often served along side the fish are hit or miss and have been great when I've been there, but also terrible. Service can be cold. They will correct you somewhat rudely if you don't understand their menu or order something that isn't a good value. Furthermore, the decor and atmosphere is somewhere between a cliche family themed restaurant, and something you might find in a teenage stoner's bedroom. The plastic fish on the wall are weird and the rest of the cheap decorations don't help. This place isn't bad, but it for sure isn't good either. I don't really see myself eating here again unless I'm in the area and really craving fish. I like it. Most places near the UTA campus offer some sort of tiny discount to students. This place offers a whopping 20% and has a punch card. Huge plus for starving college students. Service is very nice. Everyone was super friendly. It is however mostly self service. But still, I like friendly people. Menu is big. I had a basket with fried catfish and fried shrimp. I'm new to the area, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem right down the street from my job. I arrived after the lunch rush, so I had plenty of time to peruse the menu. The woman behind the counter was very kind and patient; she answered all my questions and made helpful suggestions with ease. My shrimp and catfish basket arrived, hot and fresh, about 8 minutes after placing the order---which was perfect timing for me. Both the shrimp and fish are fried in a light cornmeal batter that is mild and bland enough for most palates. I like a bit more pepper/kick in my seasoning for seafood, but this calmed my craving just fine. The fish/shrimp is served on top of a generous portion of fries (you won't finish them) and the hush puppies were little over cooked balls of fried mush. They were certainly the elders of the basket and probably tasted great two days prior. Regular sliced bread as an option over the geriatric puppies---please? This place was ok, just stumbled upon it and it's like "fast food" seafood. You stand in line to place your order and they hand you a buzzer that alerts you when you're food is ready. Most of the food I saw on their menu board was fried, I saw a grilled fish option but I think it was tilapia for 16 dollars. It was a special if the day but it didn't really seem worth the price. We spent about 50 bucks there, a dozen oysters, a shrimp basket, fried pickles and two alcoholic beverages. The food was good but pretty basic, nothing to really make it stand out. This place is always good. From service to quality of food. I've been coming here for years and never disappoints me. Never. I usually go with the 6/6 basket Shrimp and fried oysters. The shrimp is butterflies and has an amazing cornmeal batter that is not thick at all. I had the Jambalaya it was spicy but not to spicy. I think it was a little to liquidity for me. I'm from a Cajun family and our recipe is a great deal less soupy and more rice but it still had the necessary Cajun flavor to make it good. If you don't like Okra (I don't I think it's slimy) don't get the Jambalaya or Gumbo because both have Okra. I ate around it in my food but I don't usually like picking around my food. (Eating is supposed to be easy not examining each bite for something you don't want to eat.) On the menu they just list the food items, I wish they gave descriptions if they had and I had seen the mention of Okra I would have gotten something else. (Just saying). I ordered my food along with my family, and since we had a big family we thought we should sit at the big table to see that it had not been cleaned up with still some food from the customers before.
