I am a fried shrimp fanatic and these were some of the best I've eaten in a while. They seemed to be freshly battered with cornmeal just like the catfish. They were fried perfectly, and the taste was delicious. And, the hush puppies were amazing! The food came out very hot and it was a good portion size. There is another location in Fort Worth Texas, where we went for the first time ever when we lived there and discovered that flying fish has a club you can join and receive monthly coupons for buy one get one free. Prices are very reasonable and with the coupon , it makes it even better. The service was very good and quick, you order at the counter and they quickly cook your food. The counter staff was friendly and personable. The young lady that rang our order was friendly and pleasant. I had a Cafish Po'boy and it was a nice serving, seasoned well. Some good food, some ok food. Loved the langoustine lobster roll, but the fries were tasteless and mushy. The grits and gumbo was interesting. The grits were a formed block. A little dry, but softened when mixed through the gumbo, which was slow cooked to a flavorful dark stew full of andouille, okra and onion. The shrimp (or was it chitlins) were small and soft. But I saw huge shrimp on other dishes so I'm just not sure. The gator bites were very tasty with an awesome remoulade sauce. read more

The food was delicious according to my sister friends and daughter. They wanted crawfish. The cost was reasonable 44.00 for 1lb crawfish, 1lb shrimp , cup gumbo, and 2 drinks. He explained to me everything that was in the salad. It was so much better than I imagined. He also offered me a beverage to enjoy while I was waiting for my food to be ready. My salad was prepared perfectly and packaged very well for carrying out. The greens were fresh and crispy.. The avocado was perfectly ripe and fresh. Same quality we had at the Little Rock location and the cashier was polite and offered the daily special instead and made sure we used our coupon. Kids loved the atmosphere of the place and looking at all the fish. No it isn't fine fine dining but you will get a great meal and lots of smiles. I had the salmon with beans and rice and grilled veggies. This plate is enough for three meals. The food however didn't live up to the hype; the grilled snapper was good, fried shrimp alright, and the fried calamari downright bad, which was disappointing for a seafood restaurant. My 18-year-old son picked this when we were on a roadtrip with 4 of his friends. I was worried it was going to be too expensive or pretentious since it's downtown. IT WAS PERFECT. Everyone got to order separately at the counter, it was quick to grab the delicious sauces (extra horseradish available to make cocktail sauce spicier - yum!) and drinks, then we got paged when our orders were ready. The decor is fun & super comfy. The food was scrumptious. Catfish was on point, the fish tacos were "gas" according to folks cooler than me, the sides were excellent & the shrimp boil was huge and tasty with plenty of spice. We ordered the shrimp jambalaya and an order of the fried catfish filet 2 pieces and substituted the French fries for fried okra. The fish was nicely fried and the okras were too fried to order. That dish was stellar. The jambalaya was just alright. My son got the grilled chicken poyboy and that dish was not good at all. The chicken was rubbery and when we mentioned to the staff, they were accommodating and allowed us to get something else instead. Try the fried alligator medallions. My kids ate them all up. The shrimp boil seasoned with Old Bay was pretty good as well. I remember they sold those things at every big box retailer and on TV in the 90's. This was my first time trying Flying Fish. I can already tell you that I will be back when in the area. We ended up here when our first choice had very long wait time. We were glad we came because the price is more reasonable for the same meal. Our orders came hot and fast. All three of us had the salmon dinner but with different sides. We all left full and satisfied. The salmon was cooked just right and the beans had a nice flavor. There are other options besides salmon. At the time we arrived there were not a lot of people there, but it quickly got busy 10 minutes later. It wasn't noisy at all so we were able to relax and enjoy our meals. We had zero complaints. This has become a favorite stop of my husband and mine when we have time. We shared crab legs with seasoned potato's and corn along with a catfish fillet and shrimp basket. Neither disappointed us, absolutely fresh and delicious. Food 4 Restaurant needs some cleaning and repairs though. A couple of the booth benches were ripped and the stuffing was coming out. Some of the tables had not been wiped down and the sweet tea dispenser was totally empty. Also, the floor by the drink station was sticky.
