Great fried catfish and shrimp. Friendly and quick service. Casual atmosphere. We try to eat here at least once a month

Been here many times before and never had a problem. However, I was there mid afternoon on Sunday, only about a third capacity, so not particularly busy. I had a coupon, I ordered my entrees and the employee pointed out (with an obnoxiously over-zealous glee) that I was required to order two drinks as well. No problem. I ordered two drinks, paid for my order, quickly to realize it wasn't adding up. Looking at my receipt, sure enough, he had charged me for 3 ice teas and a coke. I approached the counter and was quickly intercepted by a nice young lady who was very apologetic about the over charge while the General Manager (who initially took my order ) denied his wrong doing tried to blame it on the register. When my order was ready, I was standing at the counter watching the GM bagging it up and noticed there were no fries in the order, which were not special. Standard order. Comes with fries. Every time. He had opened the container, saw the order and placed it directly into the bag. I asked,"and where are my fries?" He instantly looked around with confusion and said, "Oh! You wanted fries?" I replied, "yes, I want fries. It says here on the menu that it comes with fries. Why wouldn't I want my fries?" If this had been a new employee or someone still in training, I wouldn't have thought much about it but, this was the General Manager. I could have even chalked it up to simple mistakes. However, his defensive behavior and his pretend surprised confusion certainly seemed a little personal by the end of the transaction, like he really just wanted to screw me. Being a veteran of the hospitality industry myself, I'm all too familiar with certain personality types that feel it is beneath them to work the counter and display attitude about it. Check that machismo crap at the door, jerk off. Your employer just lost another customer. read more

Decent size serving of catfish. Ordering at tbe counter was weird for some reason, like she wanted to put me down for catfish and fries and not the plate with grilled vegetables for the side. Food was OK, cooked order and served hot. I guess I was expecting Fish Mongers, this place is bordering fast food. They have TVs with sports on though, a couple of channels. read more

This speaks to me as both a pescatarian and someone who went fishing once in his life. Their staff was super local, friendly, and down-to-earth, especially for DFW transplants like our family. Most of us ordered the shrimp tacos which were pretty massive, colorful, and flavorful. Glad to see more spots like this mixed in with the BBQ, burgers, and breweries in the area. read more

This was not the best,not the worst- just average. While their food plates are plentiful,and the food is not actually bad quality,it just leaves me wanting more. The gator nuggets were pretty juicy,and not gamey at all. They were delish and my favorite thing I ordered. I came with a huge group,so unfortunately, they were all impatient to eat. My boyfriend used 2 types of hot sauces to make his Jambalaya have spice to it. The snow crab clusters his nephew ordered were pretty good and juicy, and so were the boiled shrimps his brother in law ordered. But my fried seafood plate was just okay. I wish the breading had been made of cornmeal instead of flour. read more

Great little place for a late lunch if are from small town Texas and like the diner feel with blues music in the background. Fried fish is a solid choice. Grilled shrimp kabob is my fave. Save a few calories for lake trash ala mode. Safety tip: if you go during regular hours be prepared for a line and a wait. It's a popular place. Definitely one of our favorite spots during lent. Primarily we get one of the baskets or split the Hog Swallow which is a little bit of everything. Really love that they have side options that are not fried and even grilled vegetable options. A little pricey but the quality is great and very reliable even when they are busy. The fried fish is not super greasy which is probably the best part. Definitely better there. Take out is not always packed great and they frequently doesn't include sauces. read more

Really really yummy fish joint. Not too stuffy. Not too expensive. But not greasy or cheap tasting. I'd expect nothing less of a Shannon Wynne restaurant. Be forewarned portion sizes are HUGE. It's a good idea to plan to share, plan for leftovers or order something reasonable. Even the salads come in what literally looks like a mixing bowl. I've enjoyed the grilled fish multiple times and love the fish tacos. First time at this location the other day and I really enjoyed it! The staff was soooooo super friendly and helpful. I wish i knew the guy's name who took our order because he was great! It was very clean and the atmosphere was comfortable. The portion sizes were perfect, i didn't feel like i was left longing. The fish was really good. The only thing that was not my favorite was the fried okra. I LOVE fried okra but theirs needed some seasoning! I've noticed in the last year that the catfish pieces have gotten very small. This is disappointing! I'm sure this comes to their attention when preparing the plates but it seems they overlook the fact. Food is decent. I think I'll take my business to Elsewhere until they decide to serve decent size pieces of fish. read more

First time visit here and was pleased with this find! FOOD: I had the trout almondine, red beans & rice with grilled squash. My friend had the grilled grouper and hush puppies, both hot and fresh. ATMOSPHERE: This is a cool hangout place, for lunch, cocktails, dinner or late night drinks. Large or small parties and nice to hang out on the porch. SERVICE: You essentially put in your order, pick up your tray and occasionally they will come by and offer more water or carry out boxes. So very low key but it works here. TIP: Order the big Margarita, forget the small and save room for the Key Lime pie! read more

I never had a good dining experience at Flying Fish at Firewheel (3 times). Always poor quality food. So I thought I would try Plano. Same food quality issue. CRAWFISH: Tasted like mud - no flavor. Batch seemed like it was warmed up, not fresh boiled. And inordered 3 lbs. and there was no way that I received any more than 2 lbs. GUMBO: 40% Okra with very little shrimp and almost no sausage. CRAWFISH JAMBALAYA: The crawfish was Frieda down so small (even with breading). Regretfully, I cannot recommend this place. read more

Very nice dining facility, next to RODEO GOAT in a small business complex along Plano Parkway, Plano, TX. Very clean, with booths, small tables, and a long communal counterheight table. Behind FF are outdoor tables with umbrellas, a deep creekbed is behind the property, gives a country feeling. We've ate at Firewheel FF before, both are same size for seating. Plano wins the patio seating. So, on Monday afternoon, not busy, I only count 3 employees. We enjoying the 4 Veggie options before, and did it again: 2 servings yellow squash & zuchini, 1 bowl cold slaw, 1 steamed red potatos, and 1 corn on cob extra. Entrees: Catfish Tacos ( very filling ), and a Salmon fillet with red beans & rice. Salmon was ordered lightly cooked, ended up crispy, with a boatload of black pepper. ( Take it easy, mon! ) The yellow squash was way undercooked, and not as Zesty-flavored as we had at Firewheel FF. ( forgot seasoning? ) Catfish tacos were huge, and very filling! Corn on cob was fantastic, red potatos awesome, cold slaw delicious, red beans & rice nice flavor! Bathrooms were ultra-clean, extra hand cleaning supply really effective. No fishy smell on your steering wheel LOL My complaints, were minor, did not mention. Seemed they were short on staff today. read more

Nice casual place. I'm not a big fish lover but we've been trying to eat more fish and less red meat, so we wanted to give this a try. I like that they offer several grilled fish options, especially since fried fish seems to be so popular. And grilled vegetables instead of fries or hush puppies, etc. I had the Mahi grilled plate with chimichurri sauce, neither of which I've ever had before. The Mahi was decent but kind of dry; the chimichurri sauce was also nothing to write home about. The piece of Mahi seemed a bit on the small side to me. Again, it was all new to me, so I can't say if that's just the way it is or not. But everything seemed fresh and properly cooked. I just wouldn't try this fish again. My wife had the Red Snapper grilled plate with traditional sauce, which I tried. It was a few dollars more, but it was a much larger size of fillet than the Mahi. I thought it tasted much better than the Mahi and would definitely recommend it. We went fairly late on a Sunday night, so there were only a few people there. The order taker was friendly and the decor was nicely themed. The place looked pretty clean. Definitely worth a try, especially if you want grilled fish options. read more

This is one of my family's favorites. I could nit pick, but really the crew is good, the place is clean, and the food is better than most. They make crawfish probably as close to what I make, a little too heavy on the butter and a little more spice or longer soak. And this town is filled with bad crawfish. This is not bad crawfish! If you like catching fish and eating fish you will probably like this place. The decor takes me back to fishing as a kid. Just great memory stuff. We have been coming here for years. The quality has been consistent. It's a fun atmosphere to come and eat fish and shrimp etc. At our most recent visit. we were very pleased that the TV showed uplifting and funny videos rather than a divisive news program or sports like many restaurants tend to show when they have a TV out in the open. I found this place by accident. Uber driver took me past this restaurant. I told my wife and we tried it that night. Food was just okay. We ordered jalapeño apps that tasted way better than it it look. A whole fried snapper and catfish ans shrimp basket. The fried snapper was just okay. It looks better than it tasted. There was no seasoning at all on the fish so you needed sauce to add the flavor. Fried shrimp was very tasty. The fried catfish was okay but the pieces were very small. I didn't like that the sides were all cold, cold rice, cold fries and cold hushpuppies. The servers or cooks waited for the whole fired fish to be done in doing so the side were very cold. read more

Interesting place with a lot of character. My wife and I came here en route someplace else and decided to try. Walking in the place smells great and the first thing you see is the menu. The menu is huge and there are many options. After spending 10 minutes reviewing the menu and trying to decide, we both went will grilled fish. I chose the Salmon and my wife chose the Tilapia. We ordered jalapeno poppers as an appetizer. The poppers were good, I didn't realize they had shrimp in them, what a pleasant surprise. By the time we finished our appetizer, our meals showed up. On both our plates, the fish was cooked well and was pretty yummy. Both of us chose the "snappy" seasoning on our fish, which was good, but lacked a little flavor. The red beans and rice was good, but it seemed a tad bland. Don't get me wrong, the food here is great, I just wasn't wowed. The did have a pretty large array of hot sauces; I used these to add flavor. The decor is pretty neat and fun to look at, I love all of the fish stories as well as a wall dedicated to the singing bass. The service is great; the girl behind the counter had a great attitude and knew the menu well. The place was clean, in all honesty, there were some crumbs still on my table after it was wiped down, but that wasn't a deal breaker since overall the restaurant is clean. Overall I think this is a fun place that you can visit alone, with your family or a large group. The menu is wide enough that it can please multiple pallets. I hate posting bad reviews so here goes. Last Friday I ordered the whole grilled tilapia through Uber Eats. When we opened the pizza like box we thought what a fine boxing idea for a whole fish. The fish was so over breaded and over cooked it was almost inedible! The skin was barely scored like the photo showed so the seasoning was heavy and greasy. It must have sat in the box for at least 45 minutes. We could hardly pull the meat away from the bones from it being so over done. It was a mess to eat. The squash was also cold with only pepper for seasoning. The hush puppies were greasy also. I'm surprised the kitchen let that go out of the kitchen. read more

A little while ago I had ordered and they sent the wrong soup by mistake. I had went out of town and came back and called without remembering the managers name, (Juan), but then the other manager on duty, Isabella, went above and beyond and honored that soup promise from a while before! This kind of customer service is so vital to the hospitality industry and it made me want to order again even quicker :) also doesn't hurt that the food is delicious! My partner and I visited this location on a slow Tuesday night. We ordered two catfish baskets, with hushpuppies, fries, and lemonade. The food came out fresh to order. The catfish was large in size and extra crispy. It was lacking a little bit of flavor but not too bad. The string fries were great and large in portion. The hushpuppies and the lemonade were the stars. The hushpuppies were crisp and had a really nice flavor. The lemonade was the best I've ever had! I think I had about 3 refills. All in all, for the price and portion sizes, it's definitely worth a try. read more
