Well - if you only have enough supplies for an hour, what's the point?? So then we were left with what-you-see-is-what-you-get and 4 grown men who just got the off the slopes and another couple all ravenous and pawing over the last few pizzas that... quite frankly... sucked. I was able to get my hands on a fresh vegetable pizza that, because it was the only fresh one out, was ok. The rest was pretty bad. No taste, odd combinations.. Just overall unhappy. The pizza is pretty good and staff is usually friendly. The only issue I have is that they charge you for substitutions which I think is a poor business practice. If someone is allergic to an ingredient and wants to swap it out they have to pay for an extra topping ($2+) even though they aren't really getting an extra topping. Something for the business owner to consider changing for the future. Samoa is my favorite & it's cool you get to go in and make a small pizza on your birthday or your name day. My unit at work won a pizza party at Flying Pie was who delivered. AMAZING pizza.. fresh ingredients and medely of flavors and textures! We had the mesquite chicken, the Samoan and the Contest Combo.. all were OUTSTANDING. Unlike other places, they don't rely on their sauces to provide all the flavor. Spending the day in Boise with my 3 children. I had eaten at this pizza place years ago and had enjoyed the pizza. I wanted my children to experience what I had years ago. Well to my surprise it was the worst pizza I have had ever. We had the Pizza Buffet with a salad. The salad was the only good thing we ate. The Pizza was so bad that we left most of it on the table. The employees were more interested with talking to the beer drinkers at the bar instead of making pizzas for the buffet. The prices are expensive and the pizza and the service is worst I have ever had. I will not be going back to this place ever again. It was a waste of my hard earned money and our time. My children agree that it was the worst pizza ever. I felt bad because I had told them that it was the great years ago. There are many imitators, but only one Flying Pie. You idahoans (IdaHos?) don't know how good you have it. Fantastic beer selection FREE BREAD STICKS if you dine in and a goddamn delicious pie. Seriously; great crust, fresh, tasty toppings and a cool kinda-divey atmosphere. Also? Pizza cooked in an actual pizza oven tastes 700% better than the usual "chain drive" auto-ovens that the vast majority of pizza gets cooked in these days. Do not fear the house Belgian beer. I lived in Boise years ago and I loved this place. I'm now in California and I miss this place. Sometimes I still get a mad craving for the stromboli pizza. Another reviewer says the place isn't as good as it used to be-- that may be true. I haven't been to the place in about 3 years. But when I lived in Boise this was one of my favorite places to eat. This place is a local institution and there's a warm, welcoming sense when you walk in. Just a mention that pizza is not my favorite food, but I came away from Flying Pie with a wonderful appreciation for their pizza! We have just moved to Boise & are eager to find many good food options; my husband & son had been here before I arrived & wanted to bring me in. I really liked the ambiance and hip / laid-back decor - a very upbeat place. The options for their signature pizzas are extensive with many options for sauces - red, pesto, white, BBQ, as well as many many toppings. We built our own pizza since we all have items we won't eat. We went for whole wheat crust, red sauce, 1/2 garlic chicken + mushrooms, 1/2 canadian bacon + artichoke hearts. It really was outstanding & both sides were so tasty!! The crust was perfectly crispy with lots of cheese & ingredients. I was even excited to eat the leftovers for lunch this afternoon. We will definitely be back when the pizza craving hits!! read more

There are always one or two domestic Belgian styles available in addition to some Belgian classics. This crust is yummy but more on the hearty side...amazing toppings, great sauce, a bunch of cheese, and great specialty pie selections (Pesto Primavera...whoa! Mama said knock you out!). Admittedly, this is not my favorite pizza in Boise. But it is up there. Way up there. They make fine pies. As an east coast guy, I lean toward the typical NY slice or classic Italian slice with thin crust, sauce and just the right cheese. So, this is simply another slice of awesome...just a different but solid direction. Couple other things: Slices until 3:30pm. From 3-3:30 whatever slices are left are $1 each. Yes! I went in to get a growler of Sockeye's Tripel Pie and they were fresh out. I selected a Dubbel that was on the rotating taps instead. The keg kicked about a quarter way through the pour. They gave that quarter full growler to me for free. I walked out with more than I bargained for! While waiting for them to get a new keg going...the gentleman next to me told me that he came in to pick up a pie and they made the wrong one. How did Flying Pie handle this? They told him to sit down and drink free 8% beer until they made his pizza the right way. That is what I call excellent customer service. read more

I recommend the Phosgo, Stromboli, No Vegy Pieway, and when in season, the Habanero Pizza. The staff is mostly friendly. Delicious pizza but every time we order take out/DoorDash we ask for crushed red peppers and never get them. That's always a huge disappointment for me as that extra little spice is what makes pizza good to me. I missed my chance to shine many years ago, when I happened to look up as we drove by and saw the letters that spell out "Emily" beckoning me... Flying Pie has got to be one of the friendliest pizza places I've ever spoken with over the phone. Eager, happy, and willing to serve up their local fare with no frills or gimmicks. We ordered our 12" pepperoni and extra cheese and didn't receive it until an hour later, but this wasn't a problem because they were up front about the wait time. When the pizza did arrive it was warm, the pepperoni had a small kick to it, and the cheese was flavorful. Not the best pizza I've had, but tasty and enjoyable nonetheless. I love supporting home-grown institutions, and while better pizza may exist in the Treasure Valley, flying Pie deserves 4 stars for being a positive and enjoyable experience every time you order a pie. read more

Every time I return to Boise, I return to the original Flying Pie (the Flying Pie in Issaquah has got NOTHING on the original location they sold years ago). Lately I've been getting a slice for lunch when I return but last night we got a Fabulous Five Pack (6 really). I love the par-bake feature. The restaurant bakes the pizzas a bit then lets me finish baking them at home several hours later. I also LOVE how customizable even the specialty pizzas are. This was my first visit to the State Street location and I wondered a bit if the quality would be different than my tried and true Fairview location. We got the PHOSGO, Samoan, Garlic Chicken, No Vegy Pieway, Denver Pie, and the Zerto (on thin wheat crust sub cream cheese for the linguica). Everyone enjoyed each pie and there was no difference in quality of product between stores. My nephew, in fact, said that he had yet to try a pie from Flying Pie that he didn't enjoy. If you live in the area or are traveling through the area, I highly recommend a stop at either Flying Pie - especially if it's a Tuesday night. read more

The pizza is out of this world. My boyfriend was visiting from LA and he is always in search of the best pizza. Its become our go to meal. So I suggested we go here. It turned out to be a big hit. This is a local favorite in Boise. I'm giving them four stars mostly because of the enthusiasm and dedication to good ingredients. I tend to like pizzas that are a little more traditional, myself. They have a sourdough crust that is interesting. For me, personally, it's too thick and too sourdough-y to say that I prefer it as a pizza crust, but they get props for not being afraid to put a spin on things. The toppings are always fresh and delicious and well-portioned. Taken together, I can see why they have a fan following, and I admire what they're doing, but if I lived in Boise I'd probably still mainly patronize places with thinner, non-sourdough crusts. Not the greatest! Pizza was just okay, bread sticks were not very good, draft beer selection was not very good, salad bar was small. Really dirty inside. I literally didn't want to touch anything in the bathroom. It was like a dark dungeon that walls and floors hadn't been cleaned for some time. Service wise they were okay. Not overly service oriented but not rude by any means. We asked if we could have the TV turned and the cashier said no. It had been that way for 2 years and doesn't turn.
