Sushi by the pound! Excellent fresh quality and they even make custom on demand orders

Not bad sushi and okay pricing. Not super cheap but cheaper than other sushi I've had in the area. It's nice you can try a variety of sushi vs getting one entire roll of one thing. It didn't taste super fresh. They do change out the rolls if it's been a while but who knows when that is. Since it sits there, the sushi is lukewarm. I like that they have a little bar where you can help yourself to the condiments like soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. They even offer eel sauce and spicy mayo I think. The pieces I didn't like were the pressed sushi and the tofu skin ones. The rest were fine. Not sure if I'd go back though. I think I'd like something fresher and not so lukewarm.

Saw this all over social media & had to check out once I was able to make it up to seattle. Got there around 4pm & there were a good amount of people in there. You can either choose the container or the box to put your sushi in. I went for the box. I was surprised how many different ones you could choose some. Between my bf & I, Id say we got a pretty good variety. Some were better then others. The rice was also a bit mushy on a few of them. There are a few tables & you can also eat on the stairs im front the store. The staff were very good about refilling the plates. A good bang for your buck if you think about how much you would pay for a roll of each one you got. It was just ok, but I'm glad I tried it. Definitely try it out at least once.

So many options to choose from. And everything is fresh and delicious! Reasonably priced by weight. I would definitely choose a bigger container so I can get more next time. Nice that you can get as much ginger as you want.

FOB Sushi Bar has been living rent-free in my head ever since I first visited about two years ago. I finally made it back to Seattle this month and knew I had to stop by again! FOB is a build-your-own sushi spot so instead of ordering from a menu, you grab a takeout box (either a tray or large box), pick up a pair of tongs, walk down the sushi line, choose whatever catches your eye, then weigh and pay. It's currently around $15 per pound, and filling up one of the larger boxes usually costs me a little over $30, depending on what I pick. One thing I noticed this visit is that the price has definitely gone up since my first trip. I was also tempted by the giant inari nigiri so selected a few to bring home, but found out that it turned out to be mostly rice with just a little fish on top so I'm thinking next time, I'll probably stick more with the sushi rolls or smaller nigiri since they felt like the better value. The selection is HUGE though: sushi rolls, nigiri, gunkan, etc. The only negative for me is how fast-paced the experience feels. Every time I've visited (I guess just twice so far), the line has been packed and practically out the door, so there's not much time to stand there by the actual sushi bar and browse your options, especially since the shop is small and tight with the cluster of customers (you're literally standing inches away from each other). You're basically moving along with everyone else and making quick decisions as you go. I understand it keeps the line moving, but I personally prefer having a little more time to look. However, I did notice that the staff is constantly replenishing the options and keeping everything clean, so nothing seems to sit out for long. The fish tastes fresh, clean, and never fishy, and the texture is just right. Seating inside is pretty limited, so it's mostly a takeout spot. I have taken my box back to my hotel to enjoy in solitude (when I travelled to Seattle) or take it home to share with my kid (50+ mile drive since I recently moved to WA, but still tastes yummy after the ride). I also noticed plenty of people enjoying their sushi on the steps outside. Regarding price, my box usually ends up costing about the same as ordering about two specialty sushi rolls elsewhere, but being able to mix and match a variety of different pieces makes it a fun experience, especially since their rolls are creative, delicious, and worth trying. If you're a sushi lover (or even just looking to try a variety of sushi in one meal), I definitely recommend checking out FOB Sushi Bar!

Very straightforward process. There is a buffet line for sushi when you walk in. You start with choosing the size of container you want, and then go down the line with tongs to select your sushi. The staff was attentive and refilled the sushis as they were being selected, nothing was low. The sushi all looked fresh and there was a good variety. At the register, the food is weighed by pound. Sauces are at the side with utensils and forks. Really good deal for sushi! Would gladly visit often.

My fiancé and I were walking by, when we saw a lot of people ordering and eating outside of FOB sushi bar. It caused us to go check out what the commotion was about. This place is made for takeout. They charge you by the pound! You can pick out what sushi inari you want or sushi rolls. You weigh it on the scale, and then grab your condiments. As avid sushi goers, we were skeptical so we only tried two inari pieces: a mix of salmon/tuna and a separate spicy salmon. Needless to say, don't go here if you know your sushi. It is only worth it if you are really hungry and want something quick. This is cheap sushi and cheap fish. Not quality. For two pieces, I paid $8. Devastating.

Great concept for sushi by the pound! Everything was fresh, delicious, and ready incredibly fast. It was such a convenient option, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. We'll definitely be back!

$15.99 Sushi by the pound. We didn't care for the rolls and basically just did nigiri. It's a good option if you want a quick lunch option and want variety. Pieces are quite large but the quality of fish was alright.

Large box of assorted sushi (June 2026)

Fun, modern-looking, cafeteria style sushi bar with a good range of rolls and selected nigiri where you pick the size of your box or tray, grab tongs and select away as you move down the line. The team are constantly refilling the trays of sushi and it's best to come when it's busy so that the sushi turnover is fast, and the fish is fresh. You finish at the cashier where you pay by weight ($15.99 per lb on our visit in June 2026), the head to the condiment area to grab pickled ginger, wasabi, unagi sauce, spicy mayo, packets of soy sauce, utensils, napkins, and water cups. There are a modest number of counter seats inside and several tables outside, so you can eat in, but the place was really built for fast, customizable takeout sushi. Our group liked the quality and variety of the rolls, which mostly were riffs off of a traditional California rolls, with various fish and other toppings, and we enjoyed the nigiri, which included yellowtail, fresh salmon, mackerel, tuna, and ebi, Overall, it was a very good experience that wasn't cheap but worth coming back to again!

    Sabah D.

Obsessed with the concept of a build your own sushi box and the quality of the rolls were exceptional given the low price. Not much seating in there but FOB is right by the pier and we sat on a the benches near the water. Perfect day & perfect lunch!! Wish we had this in LA. The workers there are also extremely diligent when it comes to restocking the rolls that were out. Also plenty of sauce and sides available to choose from.

    Kat W.

This is my FAVORITE place. I always take people here and crave it but I love the concept of getting as much or as little sushi as you want and getting one piece of many different things. My favorite selection is actually the nigiri near the end of the line (especially the buttery seared salmon). One time, we were lucky enough to come when they had blue fin tuna nigiri that was very good. They always have a small line that moves very quickly and they replenish everything fresh and have such good foot-traffic that I'm never concerned. On the side, they have serve yourself spicy mayo, wasabi, ginger, soy sauce, etc. which makes it very convenient for both dine in and take out. Fast casual and really high quality for what it is. Such a gem.

Ask the Community - FOB Sushi Bar

How accessible is this place? I have a group of 6 w/ 1 person using a wheelchair or at least a walker and stairs are tough. Looks like seating is limited (2 top tables). Feasible to request making a 6 top table or is there somewhere nearby to go?

I would not recommend this spot for your group. There's steps to navigate and I'm sure there's a ramp. Parking can be challenging and seating is counter space only. Have you been to Ti22 which is further north on 4th Ave.?

Are there any vegetarian options like avocado rolls, veggie rolls, etc?

It's random. They make their own kind of rolls. It wasn't noticeable if they had vegetarian options.

Can anyone tell me if they offer rolls such as asparagus rolls, cucumber rolls, or avocado rolls?

They do not. The rolls here are more like their specialty rolls and nigiri.

    Do you take reservations?

    No, they do not.

    How much is one lb?

As of June 2024, 14.99 per pound

What are the hours there? Haven’t been able to find info, was wondering if they were open on weekends too, and how late?

    Sunday-Friday 11AM-8PM, closed on Saturdays

The food is where it all went south. We ordered ginger beer and the ginger beer wasn't true ginger beer (it was a soft drink with ginger flavor and almost 50 grams of sugar + all sorts of gums). Calamari 1/5 - this was one of the worse, soggy Luke warm calamari that tasted reheated. It sort of tasted like it was in a Tupperware for a while or cooked in rancid oil. Unagi Roll 1/5 - this is actually the worse roll I've ever had. The rice was like warm, the whole roll was mushy and tasted like spoiled fish oil. I've never had to spit out a sushi roll before and this was a first for me. The roll was cut Into super uneven pieces, some were unusually large and some super thin. It was so bad that unfortunately we had to send it back. Nigiri 3/5 - We got a selection of nigiri and it was better than the roll but still you can tell the fish quality just wasn't there. The salmon belly, toro, and others are supposed to taste buttery, but instead they were super stringy. I think the fish was fresh, but the quality was meh. We will not be returning here unfortunately and it's wild to see the amount of positive reviews.
