I cannot recommend Folbeck 4WD enough. It is rare to find a shop with this level of integrity. They performed some work on my vehicle over three years ago, and it recently came to light that the original job hadn't been done quite right. In an industry where it would have been incredibly easy to "play games" or simply point to the fact that the warranty period had long since passed, Folbeck did the exact opposite. Instead of making excuses, they stood behind their reputation. They took the vehicle in immediately and performed all the necessary corrective work completely free of charge. Not only was the craftsmanship excellent this time around, but they also handled it in a very timely manner, getting me back on the road with minimal downtime. Folbeck 4 Wheel Drive - Jeep - Auto Repair Near Me - Sparks, Nevada

This is a hard review for me to write, I've been doing business with Folbeck off and on for over 30 years. I recently took my Jeep to them due to some front driveline noise I needed diagnosed and resolved. The service manager and I talked on the phone and I told him the problem, he evidently ignored what I told him and he did $2,000.00 worth of repairs on the wrong drive shaft. They put in a slip yoke eliminator on the - rear - drive shaft. The rear shaft was fine now IT makes noise and they didn't address the actual problem. I took it back and and after a few days they called telling me the "problem was fixed"... It wasn't, they took out the t-case drop spacers I put in and it changed the front shaft vibration all right, now it buzzes like a beehive at 65 mph instead of 55 mph. I'll fix the problem myself with a locking hub kit (for another $2,000.00). In the mean time I'm stuck without 4wd until the new parts arrive. I probably won't be going back and that makes me sad. One of the few shops I thought I could trust. read more

Brought my Jeep in to the experts to diagnose and repair a fairly common symptom. They were able to diagnose the issue, obtain the parts, and make the repairs, all in the same day. Spent a lot of money getting a power steering pump replaced here just to have it go out 8 months later and got nothing but condescending nonsense that I dry-steer (no a 4 year old does that when they pretend to drive)...they did replace it but their attitude was so bad it made me feel very uncomfortable. Donny's who I thought was a great guy initially, flipped his attitude immediately when I brought it back. They replaced cams and lifters, valve cover gaskets in June 2024 In November 2024 - leaking from both sides of valve cover (Took to dealer for diagnostic). Called Folbecks (Mitchell) and as expected they offered to do NOTHING and AGAIN with a condescending attitude...they want to see pictures! They equates to no warranty on their work! This is worse shop I ever went to. Pictures in small claims court should suffice I think. Tired of being screwed over :/ read more

Recommended to Folbeck by 4 Wheel Parts for some work that needed to be done on our truck. We purchased new rims and tires and they are a little big for the truck and a cab cut was recommended. I walked into Folbeck and met with Donny so he could take a look at what we had going on. Donny was very nice and straight forward about the work needed, the hours it will take and their pricing. We knew exactly what to expect. Donny also took time out of his day on a Monday, between our first meeting and our scheduled day for the work, so he could show my girlfriend some ways to do her suspension that would work best for her. He just wanted to make sure it gets done right with the best parts. We really appreciated that extra time from him! When we showed up on our scheduled day everything was smooth. We dropped off the truck, came back a few hours later and picked it up. The work done on the truck was beautiful, they did an amazing job, very clean! I went into F4WD for a quote on a lift kit for my vehicle. I obtained a quote and immediately placed the order. 3-4 weeks later i received a call letting me know the parts were in and we needed to schedule the work (so far so good). They ended up having my vehicle for 2 days which was always the plan. When I picked up my vehicle the invoice was 25% higher than the quote. I questioned it, but paid in full and drove away. I had the recommended tire size for the lift installed the next day only to find out the $750 wheel spacers I was charged for wouldn't allow the tires to clear. I had the tire shop remove the spacers and everything fit perfectly. I let Folbeck know about the issue and was told they would try and sell the spacers for me, offering zero credit. 1) I don't like being overcharged, who does. Honor your quote. Quote being $6K and invoice being $7,600. 2) I went to a professional shop to get professional support. I should not have to pay for parts that were not necessary. 3) If money is no object and your okay being overcharged and buying parts you don't need or may not work, this is the place for you. read more

Looking to install an auxiliary fuel tank on my Jeep Gladiator, he was one of three recommendations on the West Coast. The first was closer, but never answered the phone. Donnie was next; he was obviously knowledgeable about it, professional and most of all (I'm NOT knowledgeable), PATIENT. So, I drove from South Sac to Reno during a snow storm and he fixed me right up. The fuel tank works great. As a side, no vehicle shop in Northern CA, not even off road shops, 4-wheel shops, etc. wanted to install a two-plug 12-volt power outlet in my gladiator (yeah, strange), but Donnie had his electrical guy do it and that also worked out great. I was told by my dealership that my truck brake caliber was broken and needed to be a replace another whole review and story on that. So I bought a pair of brake stop calipers from summit racing. Come to find out one of the calipers is bad and locks up so they take it off put the old ones, and said we can ghetto rig the old one by wielding it back together which Toyota should have done. Now they work fine but charged me parts and labor which was over $800. Thought brake stop or summit would pay me back for a defective product they sold but didn't. Counted it as a lose but the brake works fine. read more

I came in with a simple job to install a brake controller into my power to my trailer. RJ gave me an estimate of $500 stating that he had to charge me two hours labor. I went to another place and they estimated $300 job stating the installation would only be a half an hour. I left a 5 Star review for this locally owned business about 4.5 years ago. They went well beyond my expectations at that time. I am very picky and selective on who performs work on my vehicles. Well, today they once again exceeded my expectations! My daughter who is a freshman attending UNR, recently purchased a newer 4wheel drive. She expressed a concern with the vehicle. To eliminate any potential issues, we wanted it checked out. I called yesterday afternoon and spoke with Jim (owner), and shared the concern with him. He assured me he would handle it in a timely manner, to have my daughter call him. She called and he scheduled her an appointment at 8:30 this morning. He concluded his inspection of the vehicle and replaced a very minor, typical routine maintenance component. When all said and done, the price was extremely fair, no up-sells, no B.S. Once the service was completed, they sent my daughter on her way. Donny called to update me on the status of their inspection. He is a true professional as well! My daughter called me several times to express how friendly the entire staff was and how nice they treated her. Being she is daddy's "little girl", I was very a very happy dad! Folbeck 4x4 re-geared my Tahoe a few months ago and I had taken it back to complain about excessive gearing noise in the rear end and how I thought the gearing they recommended was way too deep for my 33-inch tires. They didn't think it was a big deal and downplayed anything being wrong. They initially offered to re- gear it for $1100.00 a few weeks later I also complained the front was making too much noise also. This is how well they stand behind their work and I no longer could trust them to do additional work on my Tahoe... It was time to find another shop. So, I took it to another shop and the following is what they found inside my differentials? The rear gearing was not set up correctly by Folbeck and the gears were burned, and the differential was full of metal so it was going to hand grenade in the very near future. My front gears were also set up wrong with extremely excessive back lash and were destined to fail soon too. Good thing I decided to re-gear it now or I might have ended up getting stranded off road in the middle of nowhere. The other shop thought the 4.88 gearing recommended by Folbeck was way too deep and they recommend 4.10 would be a much better choice in my set up. read more

When I first lifted my Grand Cherokee I had heard horror stories from friends who had worked at shops that did alignments stating that they typically align them with factory specs or wont at all. I found a few shops while searching online but just wasn't sure, one of them being Folbeck! Still though I felt discouraged and I had put it on hold until I found a solution while I started my search for new tires. In the meantime though I desperately needed tires and Zack at Discount Tire highly recommended Folbeck, I figured why the heck not, since they were at the top of my list for a shop to perform the alignment and plenty of others with lifted vehicles were being referred there as well. I swung by the shop with my Jeep as I tend to prefer in person conversations and figured it could help if I had the Jeep with me just in case. Donny was attentive and reassured me that they could handle it. So I scheduled my alignment with them for the following week, along with a front and rear end service. It had been well over 30K in mileage since I had had them looked at anyways, can't hurt to have them check out right! In the meantime I was stranded with cabin fever and anxious to get it back on the road and out on the trails. I wished I had scheduled my appointment earlier but didn't want to waste their time if my tires did not get installed in time to perform a correct alignment. Come the day of the appointment I had dropped the Jeep off at 8AM and a few hours went by, anxious that it was Friday I had hoped that I would get it back the same day, then...Donny called me...not so good on the news, apparently whoever worked on the rear end before I purchased the Jeep put it back together and let the thrust washer fall out and had been resting on the magnet for well over 100K...Not to fear though, Donny said they could take care of it, and boy did they. A few hours later, Donny gave me a ring, let me know the hot rod was ready for me to pick up. Upon picking it up, Donny took the time to explain the cost of consumables as well as how they did the repairs. I'm fairly knowledgeable when it comes to vehicles as I've worked on my own and others for as long as I can remember but I try to steer clear, no pun intended, of alignments and differential work as I'm just not that practiced in either. I really appreciated his breakdown and explanations of everything, no BS, just total honesty and great conversation. I'll definitely be taking the Jeep back to them whenever needed and as long as I live within the area. Not to mention recommend them to others in need. Thanks again Donny and Team! I have been meaning to review Folbeck since my fall of 2019 positive service experience. I was driving up High Rock Canyon in Black Rock Desert when I hit a rock that slashed my tire and bent my front sway bar disconnect. In that time I can only say I had one issue....and in the matter of fair reporting I am going to share it... One time, one of the mechanics didn't reset the clock on my Jeep Grand Cherokee... So you decide 15 years, 8 vehicles ranging in age from 1989-2007 with 20,000 to 200,00 mi on them, them being my only mechanic so 10+ visits a years and the worst experience is a clock setting. Folbeck, you guys are amazing. After two days going to another shop (not specializing in lifted SUVs) and being pushed to fix something that wasn't even broken to more precisely address an alignment issue, Folbeck went straight the source of the problem. Instead of spending $1,000 making a minor fix to my alignment I was able to get rid of the death wobble on my Wrangler for a few hundred dollars. Not only that, but while they were at it they fixed the minor alignment issue also while they were at it without needing to use an offcenter ball joint with camber/caster adjustment, they were able to just use shims to fix it. Took my truck in for warranty work, which is always a pain in the ass. RJ and Donny did everything they could to help me out. They are a very busy little shop but, at least they tell you this upfront. Through out the whole process Donny and RJ especially, kept in touch with me during the whole process from start to finish. Repairs were all done well, no issues. Right after I brought them another truck for an alignment that they finished early. I have a terrible time with mechanics. So much so I do 90% of all my own work. This is the first shop in 14 years that I took the chance to try out by referral from a friend. It worked out great. They are awesome, professional, just good dudes. This is a place I would just hang out because they talk to you like a person and take care of you as customer.
