Let's face it, we all let out that silent sigh when we see that identifiable letter from the DMV reminding us it's time to pay our yearly dues for our vehicles. Further disappointment sets in when you realize a smog check is required to ensure you're not harboring a gross polluter. I've taken our cars to Folsom Smog Test Only for the past few years and pleased to report they consistently provide amazing service. They are highly efficient and meet their estimated time commitments and I feel their pricing is easy to understand. They frequently have coupons online that are competitive. I called around to several local shops and find it frustrating when you're quoted incremental pricing when the majority of people require comprehensive pricing (including the certificate). The storefront itself is fairly nondescript and is tucked away behind a carwash, but once you walk through the lobby you'll be greeted by friendly staff. Mike and Travis were extremely attentive, genuinely kind and a bit humorous which was an added plus. They made the smog experience less of a chore and I'll be back with our other vehicles. read more

Received unbelievably great service when I came here for my Smog Check. I had my toddler with me and they put cartoons on the TV in the waiting room for her to watch while we waited. There wasn't a line so we were in and out in under 10 minutes! And it was pouring out so they were kind enough to help get my toddler and I loaded in the car under the awning so we didn't get soaked in the rain. I have been coming here for over 15 years with every vehicle I've owned since I first got my drivers license...I have also sent many friends and family members here as well. Before my last visit, I would have given them a 5 star, 100%, glowing review! BUT...sometimes it only takes one bad experience for me to start looking elsewhere for my smog needs. I have a classic truck (1987) that passed smog with flying colors at the referee station 2 years ago (I had to go there for DMV out-of-state transfer purposes) and when it came for renewal I was able to take it to whatever STAR-certified smog station of my choice. My obvious choice was Folsom Smog. When I arrived, my truck was quickly judged, "if it smells like gas, it's not going to pass" was all that Debrah kept saying to me. "I can already tell we're going to need a re-test on this one" was another line she kept throwing out there to the guy working the smog machine. Mind you this was before any smog test equipment was hooked up to my truck. The attendant ran the tests, and my truck once again passed far below the maximum levels. It's not a good feeling knowing they think your vehicle will fail before even testing it (which in my mind made me believe they would look for any reason to fail it). Bottom line...extremely unprofessional. Don't openly talk crap about your customers' vehicles. read more

Do not recommend this business, would have gave it no stars if possible. I have a truck that has had to pass smog 3 or 4 times since owning it. I installed a throttle body back in high school (10 years ago) and it had passed everytime. The item was bought from JC whitney and is 100% street legal. The business said that without an "executive code" stamped on the body, that it is illegal... on top of that they stated tape on my line (also there for 10 years) is a fail. The employee there told me I had some "homework" to do in order for it to pass. I will not be returning to this business again once I do my "homework" and get my certificate. read more

I showed up just before closing, hoping that would be alright and expecting to be told that I would have to come back. Nope! They couldn't have been happier to test everything, get me a clean bill of health, and have me on my way. Even got some nice advice on the neighborhoods nearby and great little spots to live when we are moving in a few months. This smog shop has great reviews on this site. I guess if you have a standard gas engine car there great? If you have a dodge diesel run far from these inept and unqualified smog techs! I went in for a smog on 7/15/17 and was told they couldn't complete the test because the MIL indicator would not come on while the enginw was running? I take the truck to dodge to scan the computer believing that wss the issue. The diesel tech at dodge tells me that there is nothing wrong with the truck and that the MIL light is not supposed to come on during the smog test. Then he pulls up my truck up on the BAR website and it shows the truck passed on 7/15/17???? This shops techs are inept and unqualified to test ANY diesel truck!! You would get a more qualified smog tech at Smog n Go!!! Thanks for wasting a half days work for me because you are inexperienced enough to test these trucks!! The star rating would be zero if possible! read more

have gone there a couple of times with our two cars - it was OK. Then my son took in an older truck - it passed smog, but the guy came out and asked "who is driving this pile". That was not necessary - we paid, it passed and there was no reason for the attitude. The receptionist had her kids there and they were getting bored and unruly so lots of interruptions to speak with the kids. On one occasion, my car did not pass - took it to the mecanic and it passed with flying colors - their numbers did not come close to the mechanic's. They just said it is not their responsibility to get the car warm before they test - got a little snippy with me. So our family will not be back. read more

SLOW AS MOLASSES! Inconsistent. I went one day and waited behind just one person and it was a full hour before it was my turn. My car failed due to timing. Went and had timing adjusted. Came back two days later, at 7:30 AM and finally was "waited on" at 9:30 only now to be told by a different guy that the vacuum line did not appear to be California legal. I left and went to a different shop and passed immediately. That shop told me the vacuum line was perfectly legal. What a waste of time and money. read more

All these reviews lie. The customer service is awful here and they have lost my business permanently. The woman at the front had no idea how to work at this business let alone any business on earth. The wait was unbelievable and unless you know the woman working don't count on being in and out. I waited my turn just to have her "friends" go in front of me.. She talks more than she works and is horrible at her job. A woman came in two customers behind me and was in and out before I even got helped just because the lady working there goes to the womans family restaurant. I was just at Folsom Smog Test Only and it was good experience. It looked like it was going to be a wait, but that is just because it shares a parking lot with another business. It was only 10 minutes and the owner was really cool (he was courteous but also he was MOVING and doing several things at once, well). And i like that my car was pulled up waiting for me when i exited the office (small touches can be important). Also, from my research, this was the cheapest in Folsom, by at least $10. I will go back there next time even though it is a little farther for me to drive to. read more

Horrible service! I went to this place a couple weeks ago. They are suppose to stay open until 5pm. I got there at exactly 4:30. There was a lady standing out front yapping. She walked up to the car and says she's "i'm done for the day" and walks away. No apology or explanation or even a we open in the morning at a certain time. Every time I go there for a Smog I tell myself I won't go back, but I do, then I regret my decision. Two years ago I took my car there and they passed me. This year they tell me I have the wrong catalytic converter so they failed me. However, it is the SAME catalytic converter. They accused me of altering it and then told me to get underneath my car so I could see the number on the catalytic converter. DO NOT go there. The woman who works the counter, says she is the owner, is RUDE and very snippy. read more

I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when there was a problem (created by them), because anyone can make a mistake. But there's no excuse for their refusal to deal with the issue the first, second, and even third time I went back. Each time I asked them why the DMV still hadn't received my smog notification, they got defensive. It was my fault for supposedly not waiting long enough for the tags to arrive. Maybe I had got my car smogged somewhere else and mistakenly thought it was Folsom Smog Test Only, or I maybe I had done it there two years ago, not six months ago, and that's why the DMV said my smog was expired. Maybe it was the DMV's fault. One thing was certain: it was absolutely impossible that Folsom Smog Test Only had anything to do with it. Here's a warning to potential customers: keep your receipt!!! Because they don't keep customer records, even recent ones. I had to go home and dig through my files and produce the receipt proving that they had indeed done my smog check. At that point I discovered the DMV had not been notified that my car had been smogged because Folsom Smog Test Only had mistakenly stapled someone else's paperwork to my receipt. By the time Mike admitted the problem was their fault, and only because my proof was literally under his nose, I had gone through lots of stress, fines, hours of wasted time shuttling between them and the DMV, and almost got my car impounded. All because they wouldn't listen to a customer. read more

As an earlier post mentions...the lady was slightly rude to me as well. I moved to Folsom from out of state and have been trying to get my car smog tested. The first time I brought my vehicle in, I was told it was "passable", but my car was missing a small part and would likely need it to pass inspection at the DMV. They said to buy the part then come back for a re-test. I returned same day two hours later with the new part installed, but they were too busy to fit me in the rest of the day. The same lady specifically told me to arrive early on Monday morning for a re-test. Monday morning rolls around...8 am doors open...."Sorry no testing agents today". This place seems pretty unorganized, and now I have to go back for a 4th time. Seems to me they probably do a nice enough job on the cars, but suggest going somewhere that has a more structured appointment system if you want to avoid making several trips. read more

As i arrived i was not greeted at all. I then entered the office. I was without service sitting there for about 10 minutes while 1 of the 2 employees on duty to help me. She then told me to get my dmv. Does anyone know what a dmv is? Aparently is means registration. She then gladly took my $60 dollars and told me it would be about 15 minutes. The quite large smog checker then attempted to shove himself into my lifted jeep. while pushing the seat all the way back and sitting on the CD case i had on the seat, breaking it in half. As he was oulling into the garage, he hit my side mirror on the garage side. I was quite furious. He then jumped out and didn't even attempt to apologize. 45 minutes later i was yelled at to get back in the office to sign some papers. She told me to look at the info about the smog. It failed. As i was looking through the papers i noticed that the gas cap failed to hold pressure. You have to put my gas cap on and make sure its not crooked which he didn't do. I also noticed that he noted that my windshield was CRACKED!!!! as if i didn't know!!!!! As this was happening he was driving the jeep out of the garage and into a parking spot. i went over to my vehicle, the hood was not closed correctly. As i was climbing in all of a sudden it started rolling back wards. it was in neutral with no e-brake. Good thing i was there to stop it from rolling into the 90,000 bmw in the car-wash behind it. Over-all, horrible visit. I will not be going there again. read more

I had an appointment at another Smog Test Station in about a week from now (which I've now canceled) when I discovered here on Yelp this Station was located right across from where we were headed on that same day (Folsom Zoo Sanctuary), and that it had mostly great reviews. I called and spoke with Travis, who said to come right on out and they'd get my test done quickly, and he wasn't kidding! When I arrived I assumed I was going to have to leave my car and pick it up after we visited the zoo, but Travis said it would only be about ten minutes total. While I was filling out the paperwork (which was quick in itself) the technician performing the tests (who was also very friendly and efficient) came in to let the other person waiting for his test that he had passed, and then told me he would be testing my car next. I finished the paperwork, barely had time to glance at a few of the business cards they had posted from other businesses on their waiting room wall, and, in no more than 5 minutes or so that same technician came back in saying I had passed. Travis then took my payment, finished the paperwork and gave me a copy of the smog certificate (saying it had already been transmitted to the DMV and I was ready to renew my license) and I was on my way! I highly recommend them--both Travis and the technician were efficient, work-oriented while also being friendly, and the smog test itself reasonably-priced: the perfect combination for a business. read more
