As soon as you walk into this place it's very clean. It's styled in a very minimalist simplistic manor. There's quite a few options of ice cream. They have gluten free options and dairy free options for ice cream. Which is why I love FoMu. Their ice cream is delicious and you can get whatever toppings. I got the salted caramel ice cream with hot fudge on top. It was delicious! They also have some baked goods. I'm not sure their all gluten free but definitely ask one of the people behind the counter. The staff are super sweet and very helpful. I went with my cousin and she was asking about their options and she knew what everything was which was great. They had brownies, cookies, gummies, donut holes, and I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out! This vegan ice cream store is everything I could have wished for. Premium ice cream with interesting flavors, like their well-known Avocado and the seasonal Mango Habanero. But they also offer the typical flavors, like Vanilla and Coffee. The Strawberry was delicious with real pieces of fruit and the perfect amount of creaminess and sweetness. It's pretty pricey so I just decided to get a pint of the Mango Habanero instead of a regular cup. (I think regular is $5 and pint is $8.) No regrets. You initially just taste the sweet tang of mango but then there's a nice kick in the after taste. Delicious. A mocha is $6 and they add scoops of their coconut ice cream into it. It's a nice full cup, unlike those Godiva milkshakes that are the same price but only 3/4 cup. If you're ever in South End or by any of their other locations, I highly recommend you stop in! Fomu has a great assortment of flavors that are creative and unique. I ended up getting a small for $5.50 and chose the blueberry shortbread and the peanut butter cookie. The ice cream has a very unique consistency and was overall pretty tasty. The ice cream is made with a coconut base and you can definitely taste it which is annoying for someone who doesn't love coconut. I think Fomu is solid but it loses a star because it's pricey and the sizes seem a bit small. They didn't even fill my small cup up to the top while a lot of shops will actually fill it up and then some. read more

My FAVORITE vegan ice cream parlor in the area and, currently, in the world! Let's see (aside from the pure coconut ice cream in Bangkok from a street vendor), FoMu is like, the best option out there. First off, EVERYTHING is vegan. That says a lot because they're not just some dairy farm offering that one sorbet they deem the "vegan" option. FoMu actually goes out and beyond with an array of gourmet ice cream flavors with combinations like Earl Grey Shortbread (currently my favorite), Caramel Crack (ALSO my leading favorite), as well as a ton of the standard chocolate, strawberry, mint options. Also, they have baked goods and house made toppings that can all be ordered in conjunction to create an amazing vegan sundae! Okay, I need to rave about the sundae because it was my way of trying pretty much everything they had (as much as I could) in one bowl: 2 flavors of ice cream, hot fudge, coconut chip topping, the brownie, coconut whipped topping, and the cherry on top. Omg, can you be even more detail oriented? I mean, everything from the whipped topping and CHERRY on top is covered! I actually never liked the cherry topping, like ever, on a typical American sundae because it just stood out as food coloring + syrups. But I am in awe at the effort here to really go out and beyond to make f'oreos (their own vegan oreo topping), the gluten free shortbread in the earl grey shortbread ice cream, the individual cherries for the cherry topping, the many cookie flavors...everything just screams quality and attention to detail~ Okay, so for prices, it is quite on the upper end of being acceptable. It is definitely a treat, and actually relatively comparable to other gourmet gelato places, but with their quality and flavor, its justifiable. Customer service is always amazing. I never get judged for wanting to try an extra flavor, or mix a couple flavors, or make some modification to my cookie a la mode. I've already been to the two locations. This location is actually a lot more of a social joint, suitable for enjoying a nice convo over coffee or reading a book during the day, and a lively gathering place at night. Again, I'm a huge fan and supporter of this place. HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying it! Oh, one more thing. So since most of the flavors are coconut-based, depending on your taste for coconut, I have a few suggestions. So between the new Caramel Crack and the original Salted Caramel, Caramel Crack has a nice burnt caramel taste to it from the caramel mixed in to the base, and the "crack" part is an awesome triple layer of caramel, saltine cracker and chocolate brownie/cookie(?). After having this flavor, if you try the Salted Caramel, you will noticably taste the coconut milk base. And so in comparison, Salted caramel just tastes like a sweet and salty coconut ice cream. Obviously, likewise, flavors chocolate and peanut butter have much stronger tastes that cover the coconut versus play it up. This is also one reason I really love the Earl Grey because the coconut isn't too overwhelming and you get such a nicely delicate and strong tea flavor that blends so well with some tart taste in the shortbread that again, I just think of, "attention to detail". Earl grey shortbread really and Caramel crack have so much intrinsic components to it (homemade crackers and shortbread crumbs) that just add depth to the textures and flavors. Okay, I'm done raving for now. I'm just waiting for the next round of flavor combinations! And until I live close enough to bring a pint home :D read more

Thank you Fomu for making all of my dairy free ice cream dreams come true. Creamy, flavorful, natural, and local...what's not to love?! Before Fomu, dairy free ice cream just never cut it for me. Now I can enjoy a cold treat without sacrificing my stomach. Even if you dont have certain food allergies/sensitivities, I would highly suggest that you give their products a try. From avocado to espresso-they have a flavor for everyone. I have personally enjoyed their chocolate flavor options and especially like the mint chip ice cream. Hands down the best vegan ice cream I've ever had. We were wandering around the South End and stumbled upon this place. We even loitered around a nearby Starbucks waiting for it to open because we wanted to try FoMu that badly. The texture was delightful: thick, creamy, and elastic. The flavors we ordered, salted caramel and malted cookie dough, were perfectly executed. Neither was too sweet and the malted milk flavor of the cookie dough was perfectly balanced by the cookie dough flavor and pieces. We were pleasantly surprised when the guy at the counter accidentally scooped us a large cup instead of a small. This is the first place I've tried since moving to Boston in September, and WOW I absolutely love it. The texture of the ice cream is really similar if not spot on to dairy ice cream and the flavors are delicious. As such, the flavor profile can never surmount to level of ice cream made of a dairy source. While the ingredients are high quality, they cannot save the painful taste of coconut milk ice cream. I sampled at least six flavors. None of them were desirable, even the espresso/coffee flavor. The cost is astronomical. Save your money and literally spend it anywhere else. I was really surprised to discover that FoMu's ice cream were plant-based without dairy. The chocolate pudding ice cream I had was more like a rich gelato than a milk-less ice cream! They did! So my wife and I got over there today (5/28), and the place is beautiful inside. Contemporary, light, clean with a good numbers of tables and chairs. The product lived up to the hype: you sacrifice NOTHING in terms of consistency or flavor relative to traditional dairy-based ice cream. A creative flavor list (lavender, for example) but with traditional favorites too (I had mint chocolate). Sign on the door says they're open today til 11pm, so that's nice for an after-dinner treat. This was the highlight of our trip to Boston, when it comes to food. We sampled just about every flavor and they were all amazing. I ordered a small cone with two flavors, and although they messed up my order (one of my flavors was the wrong one), I wasn't even that disappointed... That's just how good the ice cream is. I'm sure had I should said something they would have remade the cone, but like I said, it's all so good it wasn't even necessary. The fact that these are vegan, many flavors are gluten free, the allergens are clearly labeled, and the store is adorable is all just a cherry on top of a remarkably delicious sundae.
