In Georgetown, must stop at Fonda la Catrina. It's the go to place in that area. We enjoyed our meal here with some friends after a concert at the Museum of Flight. It was quite busy when we got there, with most all of the tables occupied, with a pretty loud rumble in the room with all the people in there. Our server was good, very difficult to hear at times, due to the noise in the room. We all ordered something different, Carne Asada, tamales, enchiladas, and posole soup. I really enjoyed the posole soup, it's my go to dish while I'm there, this time they had a green special version, which I wish I would've been warned was extra spicy. I did eat it all, because it was really good. My wife enjoyed the chicken enchiladas, with the mole sauce, which is her go to. Our friends enjoyed the Carne Asada and the tamales. I used to come here frequently for brunch a couple of years ago, and it was always great. Since moving back to the area recently, I've visited a few times and have been consistently disappointed with the food. I've ordered the tamales on multiple occasions, and every time they've been dry. The dough and filling are so dense that I end up leaving most of it because it's incredibly difficult to chew and swallow. Most recently, I tried their burrito, and it was disappointing on multiple levels. The portion was very small for the price, and it lacked even the most basic seasoning. The meat didn't taste like it had salt or pepper. Honestly, burritos from Chipotle have more flavor. I also tried the shrimp tacos, which were about 80% lettuce and sour cream, with very little shrimp. Once again, the shrimp had no noticeable seasoning. This place used to be packed with authentic flavors, but the quality has clearly gone downhill. After this last experience, I won't be returning or recommending it to anyone looking for authentic Mexican food. read more

Went in for lunch with my partner around 12:30 on Dec 30th. Upon entering, we were greeted by someone and sat promptly and all seemed good. Things were fine until it came time to order; we felt rushed, we never received an introduction from the server and he never asked us if we had any questions. It was just "do you know what you want?" I wanted to try the tortilla soup and so did my boyfriend so I went to order the smaller bowl. The server interrupted me to say "we don't do split orders" even though I never asked for it to be split, I just said we were going to share it. Never offered us a second spoon which is fine I guess. When we got our entrees, they were dropped off by the server assistant. I wanted salsa, no one ever stopped in to check on us so we had to ask someone else. Our server took the salsa and dropped them off at the table, not saying anything. Then when we were done and needed a box, we had to wait for a second then ask someone else again for the check and a box, which took a while too. The server was the taller gentleman in a plaid shirt, and he had an unpleasant attitude that distracted us from the quality of the food. As for the food: it was delicious. I got the chile verde con papas and my boyfriend got chilaquiles Rojas and both had delicious flavor. I will come back for the food but it's easy to find Mexican food with much better service, and if the next time is the same I will change my review to "don't recommend" read more

Found ourselves in Georgetown and stopped in for happy hour. Had some draft beers and a couple happy hour dishes. My husband liked his cochinita published pork tortita so much that he got a second one. I had the placeros street tacos, which were really good. And even though I wasn't hungry anymore, I ordered the poblano pepper tamale with mole sauce. I preferred the street tacos, but everything was good and the people there are very friendly. read more

Fonda is a Georgetown staple in my opinion. They arguably have the best chips and salsa in the city -- I love their homemade chips. We always order the Alambre Tacos with cheese. Truly never anything else. They're hands down the best thing on the menu and always packed with flavor. The restaurant itself is small and can get pretty noisy. The service is nothing exceptional, but consistently decent -- I've definitely had better, and I've definitely had worse. All that said, it remains a frequent spot on our rotation, and we keep coming back for the food we know we'll love. read more

This is the absolute worst Mexican food I've ever tasted. The carne asada was completely flavorless, sub par doesn't come close to describing it. The rice is bad, good thing there was only about 4 tsp of it to go with the tablespoon of nasty beans. The to go tacos came in a glop. I was in Georgetown for an event and stopped by Fonda La Catrina for a late afternoon lunch. I had seen a review in Eater which was pretty positive. The place is right across from Fran's production facility. Parking was a bit challenging to find. Upon entering the restaurant, I discovered a perfect setting. Open kitchen, the aroma, the decor, the packed tables. All of this could mean only one thing (which turned out to be the ultimate disappointment). Ordered the Enchiladas mole with chorizo, Cochinita de Pibil (Shredded Chicken Tacos) and the cactus salad. After waiting patiently for 15 min, the food arrived. The aroma was fantastic but my taste buds sang a different tune. Bland, salty, luke warm and totally underwhelming. Only later did I discover that the Eater article was from 2021. Fair warning: no rice, beans, chips/salsa...everything is a-la-carte. The staff do deserve a shout out as do the kitchen though the service was a hit and miss. The staff seemed flustered. Not sure why they were filling tables faster than they could service. There is certainly room for improvement. Tip: I don't recommend the Cactus Salad unless you are into Gerber Baby food. read more

It's been a while since I came to lunch with my husband around 1:30 pm. The restaurant was full of customers, so I decided to sit on the patio. Patio was warm with a heater on the ceiling and nice sitting area. There were people celebrating their children with their families, and it was nice. We were unsure what to order, but decided to share Camalito with the two of us. It was eaten by wrapping meat or cheese in homemade tortillas. The meat was a little hard, but it didn't taste bad. I haven't been to Georgetown in Seattle for years since one of my favorite burger places Zippy's was there. I was invited to dinner at Fonda and I'm happy with my visit. The staff was so welcoming and the restraurant so busy on a weekday night. I was greeted immediately even though they were very bus and fortunately got the last seat in the house. Our server was so great explaining the menu and very he Fondi lpful with my food alergy questions. She even provided samples of the mole and salsa I asked about. I decided on the pork loin in verde sauce, Puerco Salsa Rojo and some chips and salsa. The pork lion was tender and tasty along with the the pinto beans with chesse and the roasted potatoes. I also tasted the Pozole Rojo and Comalito enjoyed them too. Fonda gave me a great reason to visit Georgetown again the next time Im in Seattle and want some very authentic Mexican food. I'm trying to explore more in Georgetown and found this cool Mexican spot, Fonda La Catrina. I wasn't sure what to order, so the server recommended some great dishes. I got the Enchiladas de Mole and the Comalito. The enchiladas had a unique flavor, the best way I can describe it is similar to a Caribbean jerk flavor. The Comalito came out on a hot skillet, which was cool and it had great flavor. Our server was really nice and attentive, especially with keeping our water refilled. Would not recommend going here for takeout as there is a 10% "To Go Surcharge" just to hand you food. I paid $20 for one small burrito that didn't even fill me up. Stopped in for lunch and quickly realized there's dozens of menu items I would like to sample. If you've read any of my reviews you know I'm a sucker for tacos, so I started with the Carne Asada tacos and a Chicken Roja tamale. Both were amazing, great bold flavors. Plating was beautiful, which can be tricky for Mexican cuisine, but these were some very pretty plates. The service was great and very friendly. Everyone we spoke with was just wonderful. The decor is exactly what I love, that perfect balance between quirky, fun, interesting and modern. It somehow had this gritty feel while still being clean and orderly. We took the family and friends on a little food adventure and headed down to Fonda La Catrina in Georgetown. We had a reservation for 8 and were seated immediately. The place has a really nice vibe and the service was really good. I'm never a fan of being charged for the usually complimentary chips and salsa but at least here the chips were substantial and quite delicious! The drinks were all really good! I had the Fresca and it was excellent!! For dinner I ordered the Comalito, which is Chorizo and Skirt Steak with queso fundito and torts. The steak was tender and the chorizo was juicy and flavorful. I lived in Southern California for 20 years and my partner is the son of Mexican and Guatemalan immigrants, who was born and raised in LA. When we moved to Seattle we were....underwhelmed with Mexican and other Latin American food in the city. I'm also a vegetarian, which added to our difficulties. We tried restaurant after restaurant trying to find the kind of Mexican food we had been accustomed to. We were about to give up when we found Fonda La Catrina. It is exactly what we wanted. Food is alright, tacos were super crispy (over fried) but flavor wise good, the bacon on the jalapeño poppers were half crispy and half sort of soggy, the mole chicken slider was a tad sweet but overall had strong mole flavors. We also got the ceviche but found it to be lacking, tasted mostly of pineapple- the chips were fine, super crunchy. Food comes out quickly and service is friendly. They all seemed super watered down and not really flavorful. We also ordered queso fundido for an appetizer which was really good and came with homemade tortillas. Great food, good service, nice atmosphere. We started off with house margaritas (good), followed by a small bowl of pozole rojo -- mm-mm delicious! We followed that up with tamales in mole and tamales in salsa verde -- both wonderful (we had a pork and chicken fillings). Great food. Being fairly warm, we sat in the part of the dining room which is partially outside ... good ventilation, but not completely in the open. They have both inside seating and truly outside seating as well. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the sound levels where we sat were just perfect (enough conversations in the background to offer some privacy, but not so loud that hearing your own conversation is difficult. The server was efficient and friendly, and the drinks came quickly. The food soon followed, though not before we'd had a chance to enjoy part of our drinks -- just perfect. We've been here many times, and it's a good happy hour spot when we're in the area or passing through. My #1 favorite is the Paloma. It's a GREAT tequila cocktail if you like grapefruit. This one is flavorful, not too sweet and a good one-drink-buzz. It pairs nicely with chips and salsa, because what doesn't pair nicely with chips and salsa? We love the Elotes, it makes a great tasty corn dip to go with chips. My go-to (and I typically do not stray from this) are the tamales with mole sauce. Two fill me up nicely!
